Safari 2.0.3 in OS 10.4.5 only remembers site user name/password 25%
In previous OS Safari behaved itself, but in this version the "do you want Safari to remember your user name/password" only works about 25% of the time.
Ideas/explanations? BTW I have never used the keychain.
I have just about given up and reverted to having the different names and passwords in Stickies and enter them manually-- what a PITA!

Safari user name and password for secure sites
I just sent the following to "Mac OS X Feedback"
Some secure sites like brokers, e.g., Ameritrade, do no allow autofill in Safari for the user name and password. In fact Safari does not even ask if you want to remember the user name and password just entered for such sites.
I would like to suggest that something be done for users in such cases:
1) A dialog box comes up warning that this website does not allow autofill.
2) A suggestion is made as to what network setting needs to be changed to allow autofill to work
3) A fix in Safari to take care of this problem
4) Add something to Safari help
Does anyone have a work around for this problem?

Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo) Mac OS X (10.4.5)
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo) Mac OS X (10.4.5)Think about what would happen if someone gained access to your Mac, say while you were briefly away from your desk or whatever. They launch Safari, go to the login web page of (for instance) your bank & discover that autofill has helpfully filled in your user name & password so all they have to do to get access to your accounts is click the login button.
From there, they can transfer all your assets to some other account (theirs!) or invest in FlyByNight.com or whatever -- they can do anything your password lets you do with any password-protected account ... anything!
Take this a step further. Say you have enabled auto-login to your primary account at startup, or have used an easy-to-guess account password for it. Someone steals your computer ... & with it potential access to all your online accounts with autofill entries.
Not a pretty picture, is it? -
I have just switched to Lion. However the auto fill function for Safari and Chrome doesn't seem to work. Neither will remembers my user name or password.
This is also true for eBay and other sites I regularly use. What's wrong?

Safari save user name, etc.
Unless I missed something, it appears that the browser doesn't offer to save user name, passwords, etc., right?
I know the individual web sites can keep you logged in or remember the user name, but unless a site has that feature, user has to type the information. Am I missing something?
Thanks!Ya, you should get a pop but by default auto fill is not turned on in Settings > Safari.

i got a macbook pro 13 inch core i5 late 2011 , it came with osx lion and i been using facebook videocalls normaly , now i updated to Mountain lion

any ideas ?Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

Since upgrading to OS X 10.8.2 a few days ago, Safari will suddenly zoom in on web pages (happens on multiple sites) when I scroll or move the mouse -- any one know why and what to do about it? Thanks!
It really isn't a well thought out 'gesture' when a normal scroll action can result in an unwanted zoom but disabling SmartZoom wasn't an option for me—one of those with eyes that tire easily when reading very small text on a 27" display.
For a while I used command-+ and command-'-' to read small text but that isn't supported in some apps and for Safari it often leaves the browser in an less than perfect state when moving to the next page. I also tried option scroll to zoom the whole display but that was not desirable, either.
I finally settled on leaving SmartZoom enabled and remembering to double tap with one finger whenever the undesired zoom happens. It happens so often that the double tap is almost a reflex action for me. -
Any Problems using SSL with Safari and the move with Internet explorer to require only TLS encryption.
Hi .
Apple no longer supports Safari for Windows if that's what you are asking > Apple apparently kills Windows PC support in Safari 6.0
Microsoft has not written IE for Safari for many years. -
Safari 4 opens multiple windows but when pressing F9 only one is shown
So when i open safari it really only opens 1 window but when i press F9 to show all things i have on the desktop it will show that there are 3 or 4 other boxes - as if there were windows there but when i highlight and click on them it just takes me back to my original safari window. it will do this even when the only things running are safari and then dashboard and finder. I've done restarts and reset finder. Is anyone having this problem or has it already been resolved??? i'm going to the apple store sunday but i'm out of town till then.
I'm having the same issue as well.

My gmail account has stopped working on my iphone, saying the user name or password is incorrect, but both are definitely correct. I have tried restarting the phone, deleting the account and setting it up again, and checked that I can log on through safari. It had been working fine until this morning! Any ideas how to fix this?
Turn off 2 step authentication on your gmail account in a browser. It should work fine afterwards.

Safari Private Browsing is saving User Names
Safari is saving my user names in private browsing. I can't clear the information.
Example-- Say I reset safari, it opens up and I type in facebook.com-- my user name and password area is blank.. Now while I am on facebook.com I click private browsing without having typed any information in. I click private browsing and refresh the page and all of my information is filled in. I need all of this information to be cleared, I share my computer and can't have other people accessing this.
ThanksAlso delete the Flash cache:
~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash Player
If that doesn't work, proceed as follows.
Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
Step 1
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.Safari
Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
Caches/Metadata/Safari
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
Step 2
If you still have problems, quit Safari again.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
rm -fr $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.Safari
Quit Terminal. Launch Safari and test.
Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
PubSub/Database
Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that will have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select File ▹ Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 3, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place. -
How can I delete user and password saved in Safari
Hi, this is the first time I use Apple Support Communities.
I have a problem with Safari. I want to delete the information of users and password of Safari's autofill, so I go to Safari - Preferences - Autofil - User and password - Edit, and when I click on delete all, the only thing that happens is that all the information remain selected. I try to uninstall safari, but I can't. I'm using the Spanish version of Lion. What can I do? I like using Safari, but I want to delete this information.Solved. It was all related with keychain

Safari "can't connect to the server" message for certain web sites
I recently decided to upgrade my mid-2007 macbook with another GB of memory and then installed snow leopard so that I could run google chrome. While this made my computer run much faster, I am no longer able to connect to certain sites I visit frequently, such as facebook and craigslist. This started when I began using chrome, right after I installed snow leopard, so I attempted to use safari instead, but it will not let me visit these two sites either. Then I tried running firefox and flock, which still won't let me visit the sites.
While the problem began with chrome, I couldn't find any google support articles to solve it. I have explored other threads with similar problems in this forum, but each of them seem to have been able to visit the sites in another browser. I went into each browser and deleted cookies, history, and everything, then uninstalled all browsers and reinstalled safari from the mac os x disc, and I am still unable to visit the sites. I don't have a clue what might be blocking these sites in all browsers.I apologize for the delay. I took my macbook to the genius bar, and they fixed the issue by deleting some files from the old OS (though I unfortunately don't know how they did this as a manager in the back room took care of it). I still couldn't visit sites using Java as they said Java had somehow installed incorrectly and I would need to reinstall the OS once again to fix this. I continued to use my machine without trying to fix the Java issue for a few weeks. However, without reinstalling the OS, the exact problem has started again. Yesterday I reinstalled OSX 10.6.3 in order to fix the Java issue, hoping it would fix everything, but Java still isn't working, and I still can't visit certain web sites.
I have added those two DNS servers, but that did not solve the issue.
Any advice on how to 1) fix Java and 2) delete the old OS files? I have run all software updates with no luck. -
Cookies repopulate after I use Safari<Preferences<Privacy to try to remove some, but not all cookies. They don't seem to repopulate after I use Safari<Clear All History, but then I am logged out of sites to which I'd like to remain logged in. I use a MacBook Air, running Yosemite 10.10.1.
Hi,
I have an update so I thought I would share in case any other users are experiencing a similar problem.
I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.
I went in and they ran a thorough diagnostic check on my Macbook Air and determined that the sensors were indeed faulty - several were providing no information "No reading" instead of providing a temperature. Thus, the Air was unaware of the temperature across multiple components.
Despite the laptop being outside the 12 Month Manufacturer Warranty, the Apple Store determined that it was covered under warranty through Australian Consumer Law - the laptop is now in for a complete repair under warranty at no cost to myself.
I couldn't be happier. -
