Safari 2.0 with OS 10.4.10

I've read the posts about Safari plus and they don't apply. I've been getting Safari "unexpectly quit" messages for several weeks. This AM I used spring cleaning to deleted all of Safari. I downloaded a fresh copy and it is denied at the install stage with the dialog "You cannot install Safari on this volume. This system cannot use this software."
I am running OS10.4.10, 1.12gb, and 197.25bg free hard drive space.
At this point I am stuck with Firefox as my only browser. My son is having similar crash problems on and Imac and I will not suggest to him that he do anything except not use Safari. Something is occurring at the OS level.

You can't just delete Safari from your system and try to restore using a Software Update.
Those installers are merely updates to existing software (the one you foolishly deleted) and can't install.
You'll need to use the Tiger install DVD and the "Optional Installs" package / Applications to re-install Safari.
Once installed you can then update to 2.0.4 version.

I have been successfully using Hotmail and Gmail with Safari for a long time. For roughly the past month, that relationship is rocky at best. At times, one of the following actions suddenly opens Hotmail, but it is a short-lived solution:
(a) Hotmail directly
(b) Hotmail Home>Hotmail
(c) Sign up to Windows Hotmail
(d) Deletion of prescribed cookies, resetting, etc. - made no difference
Both Firefox and Opera work fine with Hotmail - especially Opera is very fast.
In addition, Safari and Gmail does not work with Attachments, but otherwise Gmail is OK.
I suspect I have to wait for a Safari fix because in my case I do not wish to abandon Hotmail, and Safari is a given. I would think that Safari would want to stay competitive with the two biggies, Hotmail and Gmail, which must have large numbers of users.
I certainly would appreciate any other suggested fixes.

Now, is it just me or does EVERY SINGLE update to OS X cause a problem with Sarafi - I can remember Safari having issues with at least the last 3 updates.
Usually this happens when you have 3rd party extensions installed that are not compatible with the latest versions of Safari.
Can you post the crash report text here and hopefully that will give us a clue where the root of the problem is. You can obtain the crash report text by clicking the (Report...) button in the Unexpectedly Quit window and then copying and pasting the text here.

I get sound from Youtube with Safari but not with Firefox

I get sound when using my MacPro with Safari but not with Firefox.

Did you check the volume setting in the player to make sure that the sound isn't muted?
You can try to clear the Flash local storage.

So it seems the issue is when iMovie is wanting to creat thumbnails, if I ask it to ignore then it's fine but if not it hangs up searching for the video file.

Quit the application. Force quit if necessary.
Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ General ▹ New windows open with: Homepage

Can't get safari to open with home page

I have set google as my homepage in Preferences, but Safari invariably opens with the last page I had used before quitting. I've tried both "Set as Current Page" (being on google, of course), as well as typing in google's URL.
Any suggestions?

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, copy and paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash
Try resetting your home page.

Turn off Private Browsing.
Tap "Private" on Safari Screen to disable Private Browsing. When top of screen is white, Private Browsing is off.

I did not believe this message and went to Apple support using Firefox and found the answer by stedman1, under a previous submission by mjbaur.

Can't re-install Safari! Help with flash player also

Hi there,
I found that my Adobe flash player (version 10) is causing my computer to hang. I know this because when I disable it, it dosnt hang.
I have tried to unistall and then installing version 9 Flash. With version 9 I am still having the same problems.
I have tried to uninstall Safari (put in trash) and try to re-install (safari 4 tiger - I have a MAC OS 10.5.2) it but I am getting a message saying "You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.4.11." NOw I don't know how to re-install for my mac!?
How can i fix this issue? I need to go to these website for work purposes and its very annoying that this problem wont allow me to go to these sites (www.myspace.com, www.beatport.com)

You seem to have made a number of fundamental errors.

10.5.2 is Leopard, but you need to update to 10.5.7 to run Safari 4.
You seem to have downloaded the Tiger version of Safari 4, instead of the correct Leopard version.

Don't do that - Safari is integrated with the operating system and other applications rely on some of its components.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:

(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
It is suggested that you first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

Safari 6 freezes with OSX 10.7.5

I'm using a recent Safari 6.1.6 update - and am now experiencing a problem I never had before with Safari on my OSX 10.7.5 MacBook Air system.
I am unable to use Safari for more than fifteen minutes or so before it freezes, and always when I'm switching to a new tab to view something. I never have more than six or seven tabs open. This is particularly irritating when I'm downloading material at the time, which is instantly lost, of course. Safari did freeze with earlier versions, but rarely more than once or twice a week.
Is there a way to return to earlier versions of Safari? Would this help? Any suggestions - preferable a solution - gratefully received.

Safari comin up with weird alert message after 10.4.3 update

after installing the OS 10.4.3 update safari comes up with alert message when launched: Safari 2.0.2 (v416.12) has not been tested with the plugin (null) (null) (v0.51). As a precaution, it has not been loaded. Please contact the plugin developer for further information.

I have the same error message for the "(null) (null)" plugin, different version number. I suspect there are going to be a lot of these as people update to 10.4.3.
How do we go about removing these plug-ins, or at least this paticular one, so we do not have to deal with the error message after starting up Safari every time? Under Help => Installed Plug-ins, I see it lists plug-ins from a Plug-ins.html file within the Safari.app package, but it's not clear how to manually manage them. I do not want to uncheck in Preferences all the Safari Plug-ins from loading. For this particular error, I'm not sure I want to mess with SIMBL.bundles...

The current Safari version is the primary one available
from the Apple downloads page online. That is not a
supported version for Panther 10.3.9.
Since the Combo 10.3.9 update file changes the setting
and other info in Panther from that of the original install
disc, there may be more issues from trying to revert or
get another (older) Safari from the Installer via Pacifist.
Here is a link with some ideas on the process, there are
additional links inside it, which may not work now. It is
not a new one, but does show the complexities of this
matter and it should not be taken to lightly...

The older version which came in the Panther retail
installer disc may be extracted if you happen upon
the correct version of a utility which is intended on
allowing one to extract and install specific packets
from the main installer disc; not run the whole thing.
The utility will run limited, but free. It has quirks.
It can pull the older Safari from an Install disc.

There are other nice browsers, Camino will do
well in Panther 10.3.9 and it can also assign a
browser as default in much the same ways as
Safari did for OS X.
An archive & install (then update) may be the next
best thing; or if you have a clone of the system in
previous form, you could clone sections of the OS
back and then see if the Safari from there'd work.

Can anyone help? This virus isn't behaving like the FBI one. The typical fixes are NOT working. Seems this is a new one. I'm on MacBook Pro, OS X 10.9.5.
I tried:
Force quit Safari
Restart with shift key pressed (everything remains grayed out in Safari menu)
Restart with shift key pressed and offline (same thing, everything grayed out)
Command W, enter does nothing.
