Safari 2.+ will not launch at all under X.43

Since upgrading to X.43 none of the Safari 2.+ versions will launch at all. The older 1.+ versions will however. I have tossed the pref's and have no Safari "helpers" installed. I had a similar problem under Panther with the earlier Safari apps. Would not launch. Some nice soul here recommended something be tossed but unfortunately I don't remember just what it was. At that time I was also having a problem with Limewire not launching...that does work fine now however. I tried running the combined updates again but nothing changed. Any ideas? TIA!

hey, hey,
can you indicate what you have tried tossing, other than the prefs? also, how many versions of safari do you have installed on osx.4.3?
if just the one, try opening /applications/utilities/terminal.app and entering:
mv ~/library/safari/* ~/desktop
ibook g4     OSX.4.x

  • I get a crash notice. Firefox will not launch at all -- it keeps giving crash notice. I also cannot generate a crash report. I have uninstalled and reinstalled -- same issue. It does not launch.

Firefox crashed this morning. It will not launch even after being uninstalled and reinstalled. All I can get is a crash box. It will not relaunch in any way

This sounds the same as my issue. I was browsing in Firefox v6.0 last night and all of a sudden it closed with no notice or error message. When I tried to open FF I received the messaga; We're Sorry - Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts." I does not restart. I have been using IE to browse for a solution and nothing works other than opening as administrator. Now this problem is only on one of my laptops and is fine on my desktop and other laptops so it appears to be something specific to my laptop which is running Window XP Home and Service Pack 3.
Some suggestions were to change the profile (did not work), end the firefox.exe process in task manager (not running in processes) and delete an xpicleanup.exe (not listed).
The only thing that works is to run as administrator but I have to do this everytime. Is ther a solution?

  • Apple programs, Help, Mail, iTunes, Safari, Quicktime will not launch.

Recently we downloaded some upgrades from Apple and now Help, Mail, iTunes, Safari and Quicktime will not launch. The icon dances on the dock, and the operating system records the program as having opened, but the program does not come up and the icon menu on the dock still displays open rather than quit. I have tried re-installing the programs to no avail.

  • Itunes will not launch at all

For a few weeks I've been having a problem with iTunes taking a long time to open, and sometimes not opening when I plug in the phone.  Last week I realized  just stopped opening at all - even by double clicking on the itunes exe file in Control Panel.   When I plug in my iPhone 4S to the USB, iTunes also does not open, but I can see the phone in Windows Explorer.  I'm running Windows 7 32-bit on a Dell laptop, and iTunes is 10.6.3.25.  I do not use wifi to synch the phone.
I searched online and at first thought it was due to a Google Chrome flash plug-in problem because Chrome had started failing to load some pages and sometimes iTunes would eventually open if Chrome was restarted.   I reinstalled Chrome, and finally just uninstalled Google Chrome, but that's made no difference.  I uninstalled Bonjour as some folks had problems from that.
I have already tried to identify if some service is trying to run by looking at the msconfig and trying to turn off things on the Startup and turn off Services, but even with everything but Windows services turned off, iTunes still will not ever open.
I've uninstalled and re-installed iTunes and Quicktime at least 5 times over the last few days.  I used revouninstaller to do the last two un-installs as a friend said it cleans more thoroughly.   I just read here to try renaming the APSDaemon so it won't run, and just did that change, but after rebooting still no luck.  Quicktime will run, but it takes about 1-2 minutes before it opens after double-clicking on it.
At this point I don't know what else to try.  All suggestions greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks.  I read that link before posting here but I wasn't able to do the first part because iTunes will not ever open for me to start it in Safe mode.
Since I posted yesterday, "something" I did must have worked (but I don't know what exactly because I think I didn't do anything).  But iTunes just randomly appeared on the system tray yesterday afternoon.  It wouldn't open by clicking on it, so I tried to Ctl-Alt-Del to close it, thinking I'd at least get some errors to view in the log, but then about a half hour after  I had tried to close it through Ctl-Alt-Del, it actually opened.  It still doesn't recognize my iPhone 4S though.  If I get that to start working I'll update again.

  • Compressor will not launch at all and is greyed out in FCP

Running FCP 5.1 on Mac Pro 10.4.7 and compressor export is greyed out in the list. The program will not even start up on it's own. I've deleted and reistalled twice and still does not work. This all started after and archive and reinstall earlier in the week. Everything worked perfectly back then. Any ideas on how to fix this. I have a deadline to meet and I'm mpeg2less and gotta make some DVD's. Very important stuff I need to deliver.

Unfortunately, Archive and Install moved some important stuff that is installed initially when you did the install of FC Studio.
Some of these "bits and pieces" are now in > /Previous Systems/Previous System 1
Here is Apple's listing of what basic OX stuff got moved and where.
(FC Studio of course is not mentioned, just the basic OS X stuff)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Unless you know exactly what to put back into place, and enable root to move things back into your "System" folders, don't even atempt to do so.
You could follow this Apple doc to reinstall Compressor,
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93234
Or reinstall FC Studio in it's entirety, and run Software Update to get back to where you were before.
This should be as a last resort, as other specific receipts and preferences must first be removed,
    as in reinstalling FCP here:

  • Safari 6 will not launch

Have not been able to launch Safari 6 at all. Have removed all extensions and plugins without success. Is anyone aware of anything that might be interfering with Safari 6?

My Lion installation of Safari 6.1 just beachballs. Restarted, repaired permissions, logged in as admin user, same result.
I would avoid this update for now.

  • Safari 7 will not open at all.

    HELP!!!!
I don't know what to do. I accidentally downloaded GenyMotion and now my Safari isn't wroking. When I click on it in the dock or even in the application folder, it bounces up and says that Safari quit unexceptedly and tells me to ignore or reopen and it never works when I try to reopen it. I deleted the GeneMotion and everything that is connected to it but it still won't open. I tried restarting, shuttting it down but nothing works.
What do I do? Is there any way for me to redownload it or do I have to redownload OS X Mavericks again? And if I have to redownload it, will everything I have saved and the other accounts have saved still be there?

Step one is to log into a newly created admin user account and see if the problem persists.

  • Indesign CS4 will not launch in Windows Vista

Indesign CS4 will not launch but all other CS4 programs will in Windows Vista, has been worked perfectly up until mid february, I have spent two weeks dealing with Adobe support, and finally I ran “Windows Installer Clean Up” and restarted as requested on phone call to adobe today, then ran “WinCS4Cleanupscript” which inform me that it was clean (or words to that effect) and restarted. Did new install of CS4, at registration I noticed that the Reg Form was pre filled and with my preferences which was a bit strange. After all that Indesign still does not launch but is running. Please can anyone help.

This is the earlier thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/2621367#2621367
I think the onus is on Rapport to sort its software to prevent it interfering with other applications, and there is a post in that thread that indicates that Rapport is both aware of the problem and is working to overcome it.
I would hope that Adobe itself would have picked up this problem by at least monitoring this forum, but other than adding it to the knowledgebase for its technical support, which I don't expect is an overnight thing to do, I can't see what else it would be expected to do.
Perhaps if anyone from Adobe is monitoring this problem they could chime in here and let us know what the position is. I strongly suspect that Trusteer may have been the reason I couldn't get InDesign to run under Windows 7, and so I rolled the whole shooting match back to XP. I am planning to reinstall W7 with the knowledge that I may have to toggle Trusteer on and off to run InDesign, but it would be helpful to have some assurance from either party that a fix is on its way.
In the previous thread the Rapport response implied there was reference to the problem on its FAQ page. If there is I can't find it.

  • ITunes 6.1 will not launch

After upgrading from iTunes 4 to 6, iTunes will not launch at all. Neither will the new version of Quicktime 7 that I installed at the same time. After clicking on the iTunes icon in the dock, the icon bounces once, but the application will not launch or respond to any command but Force Quit. Does anybody have an idea why this is happening? I'm also on OS10.3.9

SOLUTION FOUND for iTunes not opening after upgrade to 6.0.1!
This took a lot of time and effort and the expertise of 2 long-time, devoted Mac users! Apple could not even come up with this. As I said in earlier posts, I believed it to be a code issue in the upgrade program, and so it seems. The upgrade doesn't delete the old iTunes version's "preferences" as it should, thus creating a conflict.
    Here goes the solution:
-Close out of all applications running
-In your Finder go to the 'Go' menu and slide down to 'Home" and open it
-Double click on the 'Library' folder to open it
-Double click on the 'Preferences' folder to open it
-Change 'View' for all this folder's contents to 'list' format to make the next step easy:
-Drag "com.apple.iTunes.plist" AND "com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist" to the trash
-Close all windows and try starting iTunes from the dock. If you have no iTunes icon in the dock, open your applications folder off your hard drive, find the iTunes application. Click once on the iTunes icon and drag a copy of it to the dock. Once it's in the dock, click on it. It should open as a new version of iTunes (set-up) allowing you to transfer/organize your music, and so-forth.
    Cheers!!
    Paul
Thanks to good friend and fellow MacFanatic Richard "Dick" Muise of Springfield, MA, USA, for his insight and assistance in coming up with this solution!

  • FCP 6 will not launch in 10.5.8.

Hi. I just replaced the primary boot drive in my PPC G5 (running 10.4.11) by cloning it to a larger drive. Tested the drive and it ran perfectly (actually faster than the old one). Upgraded my OS to Leopard and after testing it w/ the first installment (10.5.1) FCP 6 would not launch. No problem w/ launching Motion, LiveType, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro or even Final Cut Express HD v3.5.1. Continued updating to 10.5.8 as I thought that might fix the problem but FCP 6 still will not launch. All other apps are running up to par. Any ideas, anyone as to what I can do? I have all the original disks and am thinking a reinstall might be the solution but am not sure how to go about it. Any suggestions will certainly be appreciated.
    Jack

Solved the problem. Had to update my version of QuickTime to v7.7 (the latest for OS X (10.5.8)). QuickTime Pro registration was automatic and after that, FCP 6.0.6 opened w/o a hitch and is runnng great.

  • Firefox will not launch when I click the icon, it worked okay previously

A week ago firefox began taking a long time to launch sometimes requireing reclicking the icon.
Now it will not launch at all.
I get no error messages, nothing happens when I click the icon.
    HELP

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox 5 will not launch. Error message "Another instance of Firefox is running" is generated every time

After updating to Firefox 5, on Windows XP machine, Firefox will not launch at all. No matter what I try, I just get the same error message, than Firefox is already running. Even after double checking task Manager, and ensuring that this is not true, as soon as I click to launch it again, the same message pops up. Everything worked well until I updated to version 5.

Is there any firewall running on your computer that may be blocking internet access?

  • Sqlplus will not launch

I' currently taking oracle DB in college and had the client working fine from my home computer, everything was setup fine and it worked. Now the windows SqlPLusW.exe will not launch at all. I can connect fine from the command line, but I would like to use the advanced features of the GUI to make my life a little easier.
thanks for any info that might help

Ok, open a command prompt window and navigate to the directory where you installed Oracle software. navigate into the BIN folder and do a dir sqlplus*.exe to see what do you get (is it similar to the output below).
Once you see both the files, try running it from within the command prompt window by typing SQLPLUSW.EXE (does that work?).
    02/20/2003  11:02a             459,024 sqlplus.exe
