Safari 3.0.4 misbehaving

Hi,
I use a content management system, for the website I run, that is accessed over the internet. As the system was set up to run on Internet explorer there have always been little problems using the system on a mac but most of these were ironed out by using 'Safari Enhancer' to make Safari mimic internet explorer.
Just recently we've started having problems that we never had before, in particular an error message like this when we try to upload photos into our management system
Persits.Upload.1 error '800a000e'
Invalid data format. You must include ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" in your FORM.
/SharedScripts/UploadFiles.asp, line 13
I now see that Safari Enhancer does not support Safari 3 and I wonder if the new problems have arisen because of the update from safari 2 to 3
I tried using Tinkertool to see if that helps but I think that's only changing how the page is displayed rather than changing the way Safari performs.
Any suggestions? Is it easy or advisable to try an revert back to Safari 2?
Thanks in advance,
Jamie.

Hi
Can't help you with the web coding - out of my range.
Is it easy or advisable to try an revert back to Safari 2?
You would need to Archive and Install the OS, then upgrade to 10.4.10 to use Safari 2.0.4.
Safari Enhancer simply alters the User Agent. Go to your Debug Menu>User Agent and select a browser from there prior to attempting an upload.
If the DeBug Menu is not activated, here's how you do it:
If the Debug menu is not activated, follow these instructions:
Quit Safari
Open Terminal.app in your Utilities folder,
When the Terminal window opens, copy & paste the following command into the window:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
Click on the return key, you may be prompted for an admin password. If so, enter it.
Press "return".
When you see your Mac's name, it's done,
Quit Terminal
Restart Safari and go to the Debug Menu, following the suggestion above.

  • Strange (new?) behavior

    Using Safari 3.1.2, I go to a site such as tv.yahoo.com - click on a listing, a description window opens below the listing - but the window is empty. I could have sworn that Safari worked with Yahoo! TV previously - hmmm?
    Another Safari issue...
    I recently decided to stop using Windows when I was doing my online bill payment. So, I go to my financial institution, start the 'bill pay' routine, click on the calendar icon (which should cause a little pop-up to appear so I can click on a payment date) and I get an error message stating this feature doesn't work in Safari...I have to enter dates manually. Now, I wouldn't swear that this had worked previously, but I thought that it had.
    This is not an 'active x' thing - the above errors do not occur if I'm using FireFox on the Mac.
    I've tried this in Safari 3.1.2 on both my Mac G5 OS 10.4.11 and my MacBook OS 10.5.4 - same problem on both.
    Any ideas?

    Barry...
    Thanks for your comments:

    FWIW, I just tried that page you posted and it displays fine here (no blank page).
    I probably didn't explain this clearly (looks like I can't insert a screen capture here - too bad). If you go to tv.yahoo.com, click on TV Listings in the menu, you then are presented with a sequential list of shows by hour by channel. When you click on one of the listings, a large box expands below the listing - that box should be filled with descriptive info - in my Safari, it is blank. The way the box opens, it looks like flash technology - but it's not - if you right click the box, you don't get that tell-tale flash contextual message (Zoom In, Zoom Out, etc). And not that it matters, but my flash plug-in is working.

    What is your banking site? If it is Bank of America, the calendars come up just fine here as well.
    It's actually a 'credit union' - Kinecta. Not a small 'can't afford decent programmers' type thing - they're one of the nation's largest. There are other sites where the calendar does work in Safari (american airlines, any of the travel booking services). I just find it irritating that something like FireFox will work just about everywhere (assuming 'active x' isn't required) but Safari seems to be misbehaving.

    I think I would, at a minimum, clear the safari cache, trash the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restart your computer. I might even reset Safari (clears the cookies as well).
    No luck. I cleared the cache, trashed prefs, deleted all Yahoo cookies. Still no luck.

  • Safari misbehaving after reset

    I've been having serious beachball issues with Safari, so in my troubleshooting one of the first things I tried was to reset Safari. The result has been that the beachball issues haven't gone away, and more problems have arisen, specifically:
    1) Using CMD+[comma] to get to Preferences doesn't work the first time I do use it in a session. The Safari menu flashes blue, but nothing happens. When I hit the key combo a second time, the Preferences come up.
    2) Once in Preferences, when selecting a particular preference in the toolbar, sometimes that preference does not come up, and I have to click away to another preference, then click back. This happens most often with the add-on preference Safari Cookies, which leads to...
    3) I have Safari Cookies installed, and after resetting Safari, this preference doesn't work, the Cookies tab displays no content — not even my saved favorites — and the About tab is blank.
    I've been in contact with the programmer of Safari Cookies, and we're both stumped.
    But here's the kicker: Out of frustration, I ran just about every **** thing in Onyx — clearing system and user cache and logs, etc. After doing so, Safari was back to normal, with Safari Cookies working again — for about a week. Then it was right back to beachballs and preference problems, and I can't think of a single thing that would have triggered the return to the broken behavior.
    Anybody got an idea or two?

    Hi,
    A common troubleshooting tip we suggest is to login to anohter user account, launch Safari there. If you see the same problems, that can be indicative of a problem with the startup disk. Launch Disk Utility from the admin account. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the FirstAid tab. Click: Verify Disk.
    If Disk Utility reports problems, follow the instructions here for Using Disk Utility to Verify or Repair Disks. You will need your install disc.
    If Safari runs ok in another account, then go to Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Turn that off, see if it makes a difference.
    If it's not Extensions, follow the instrucitons here for troubleshooting Safari third party plugins.
    Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
    And try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Quit Safari. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

  • Some common sites misbehaving with Safari

    I need mlb.com like I need water and air. But after the recent updates the site doesn't re-load properly ever 90 seconds like it should (in order to update scores).
    Also, the links in the Flash pages do not open.
    I have seen a few other popular sites behave this way.
    Leopard, Safari, Flash are all fully updated.
    Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

    For what it is worth (and maybe not much!) I have the following fonts set in Safari Preferences:
    Standard Font: Verdana 18
    Fixed-width font: Monaco 14
    and Default Encoding set to Western (ISO Latin 1)
    and I have not seen the problems you describe.
    Yes, Helvetica fractions and Times Phonetic should be deleted altogether, not just disabled.
    I know you are running Leopard and I am on Tiger, but Safari 3.0.4 is the same for both.

  • Safari misbehaving with fast user switching after Mavericks upgrade

    Anybody else have this problem with fast user switching?
    Since upgrading to the worst OS upgrade in history, not only have I lost TB's of data from my external drives, but Safari is behaving like a spoilt brat when fast user switching is used.
    If I leave safari windows open and switch users, then switch back, the Safari windows are collapsed to about a tenth of their normal height and stuck in the top left of my screen. When I say stuck, I mean that if I attempt to move them, they snap back.
    The best part is, it's not consistent, so I can't reproduce it at will.

    I have a 2014 BTO 27 inch iMac and I have the same problem with open windows being locked to the top left/right of the screen and just a fraction of their previous size after switching to other users and then switching back. In addition if an open window is not bugged into either of the top corners it may still get re-sized
    Due to screen backlight issues, I went through being shipped (and returning) 3 BTO iMacs before settling with this current one and each of those iMacs had the same fast user switching bug. This leads me to think that a re-install will not neccessarily solve this issue as I am assuming that the BTO iMacs they shipped to me from China were brand spanking new. We see this behaviour with Safari, Chrome, Mail, iCal, and iTunes since these are the apps that we commonly leave open. We do not have these as full screen apps either, just open windows.
    It is very easy to replicate this bug. Open a few of the above mentioned apps, and then switch to another user; I'm guessing even the guest user will do if you have no other users on your system. Switch back to the first user and more than likely one or more of the windows will be anchored at the top left or right of the screen, depending on where the window was initially. As stated by a few other users above, this doesn't always happen but switch users a couple of times and it is bound to happen before long.
    Curiosly when my windows are anchored on the left after switching users, the upper edge of the window is hidden BEHIND the menu bar. If I pull the window down it appears that the red button is off screen to the left and only that portion of the window to the RIGHT of the amber button is visible.
    When the windows are anchored to the right they are BELOW the menu bar, and only the red and amber buttons are visible and only that part of the window to the LEFT of the amber button is visible.
    In both cases it seems the amber minimise button is the window cut-off point.
    You wonder how they could have broken this feature since ML and much worse, still not have it fixed 3 months later.

  • Issues with Yosemite and Safari on extended monitors

    I have Yosemite installed on a Mac Pro with 3 monitors attached to it.  As soon as I installed Yosemite, I noticed that whenever I tried to fill in text input fields on a web page, the things I typed in would start blinking.  And when trying to backspace to correct any typing errors, the field would remain the same and continue blinking.  It was very annoying because it was very difficult to enter anything into text input fields.
    My brother and an officemate who also had Yosemite installed on their computers were not experiencing this issue so I tried to isolate the problem on my system.  What I discovered is that Safari behaves as it should when it is displayed on my main monitor.  But whenever I move the Safari window over to one of the other monitors, any text input field on a web page would be next to impossible to type text into.  Other input fields, such as dropdown list boxes, act weird also.
    I should add that this only happens with Safari.  Firefox and Chrome do not behave this way on any of the monitors.  Other apps also run fine on the extended monitors.  It's just Safari that misbehaves.
    Has anybody else experienced this problem.  Is this a known bug?  I tried doing a search here in this community and on the internet itself but have not found anybody else complain about this issue.
    Thanks.
    ...Leo

    Hi all, I too am expieriencing similar issues.
    I am running a 2012 6core 3.33 Mac Pro with two ATI Radeon cards driving 3 27" LCD Cinema Displays.  One of the Radeo cards (1) drives the outer 2 screens and the other card (2) drives the centre screen alone.
    I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.01 after being very pleased with it running on my Macbook Pro for a few weeks.
    My center screen had issues immediately rendering certain pages in Safari, the App Store and Mail.  In particular the google page when it has live search results showing, the App Store updates page also renders badly, and some emails in Mail that are html also don't load as the should.  Generally its the top of the page flashing, or the text input box on a page like this thats effected.
    I did a fresh install of Yosemite and it didn't fix the problem.
    I notice when I drag my safari window from the outer screen to either of the side screens, the problem goes away and returns when it comes back to the centre screen.  I swapped over the mini display ports so that graphics card 1 drives the middle screen and graphics card 2 drives the outer screens and the problem moved to the outer screens.
    I am still on Applecare so I called Apple and a senior tech took a look at the issue on my screen remotely.  He decided on replacing the graphics card.  This is being sent now so I report back once its installed to let you know if it made a difference.
    I am also going to try swapping out one of my cards with another colleagues card to see if I can establish if its a bug in Yosemite or an issue with a specific ATI card, or indeed just a problem when you run two cards.
    In the mean time I would be interested to hear if any of you guys found a workaround.

  • Safari, Mail, iTunes and Skype won't open

    Hi there Apple-Support-Team,
    a few days ago I did an update of Safari, suggested automatically by Apple, but wasn't sure if the update was successfull (I had to leave the house).
    Now all applications with internet connection (Safari, Mail, iTunes, Skype) won't open anymore. Not from the dock or the application folder. I checked my internet connection which seems to be working.
    I've seen quite some reports in this forum but I am not sure if I'm having the same trouble as the other users. I get no error reports or anything else, the apps just don't open.
    Mac OS X version 10.4.11
    Safari 3.0.4
    Many thanks

    Welcome to the forums!
    Did you restart your Mac after the install?
    If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have) and it is misbehaving:
    N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings, and don't change the application's name or move it from the top level of the Applications Folder to a sub-folder.
    (If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall. Alternatively you can download Safari directly:
    Safari 4.1.1 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
    Safari 5.0.1 for Leopard (and Snow Leopard) can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
    Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
    Also, observe the recommended procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
    Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
    So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta and which was updated to v.3.1.2, and now Tiger uses Safari 4.1.1 and Leopard uses Safari 5.0.1, as does Snow Leopard albeit a different version. If these latest versions of Safari are not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
    (Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari can have repercussions, as previous versions of Safari used a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
    Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet, and the dreaded CT Toolbar. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for the latest version of Safari on your current operating system.
    You must also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates. These require a restart and a permission repair.
    To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
    Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
    • Home/Library/InputManagers
    especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
    Lastly, the Safari updates require a restart of your Mac, and sometimes even a double restart is required.

  • "The application Safari has unexpectedly quit." / "Archive and Install"

    ...The system and other applications have not been affected.
    Would you like to submit a bug report to Apple?
    I was working on my eMac last night when all of a sudden Safari shut down. I tried to open it again and I kept getting the above error message.
    At first, I thought this was no big deal, as I just downloaded Mozilla Firefox. However, it seems that whatever error caused this corruption in Safari has also affected my MSN Messenger, and a few other internet related Apps.
    I don't know if any of you have come across this problem before, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could email me your suggestions to fixing this problem.
    I called Apple support, and the lady suggest looking for a way to "archive and install preserving" so that I don't lose any of my important files. I'm sure that this might fix my problem as well.
    Please let me know if you have a solution for me!!
    Eric.

    Eric Jackson Wood,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    Doing an Archive and Install because Safari unexpectedly quit is roughly akin to using several sticks of dynamite to take out a housefly in the kitchen. How much RAM does your Mac have, and how long had Safari been running continuously before the quit? Safari does have a known memory leak problem (the Safari 3 beta may have fixed that; too soon to tell for sure); if you have a minimal amount of RAM (256 MB or less), run multiple applications simultaneously, and leave Safari running for several hours, you can expect Safari to bog down. If you then try to load some types of web page constructs, the unexpectedly quit message isn't quite so unexpected. (Quitting and relaunching Safari every few hours is a viable workaround; in sever cases you may need to restart the computer as well.)
    How were other Internet apps affected? Slowdowns, unable to connect, unable to find sites, or what? What version of MSN Messenger are you using? (MSN Messenger isn't known for being overly robust in the first place.) If a number of online utilities all begin to act strange at the same time, my first suspect would be the local network and the ISP. Is the problem still persistent after restarting the computer and after several hours (to allow the ISP to fix any glitches on their end)?
    If Safari continues to misbehave, launch Safari and before going to any website, try going to the Safari menu and select the commands to reset Safari and clear cache, then restart Safari and see it that helps. If you have Safari set to open going to a homepage rather than opening a blank page, first move /Users/ [your_username]/ Library/ Preferences/ com.apple.Safari.plist to the Desktop before launching Safari to reset it and clear its caches. If Safari then works, you can quit it and try moving you previous preferences back; if Safari begins acting up again, trash the old preferences and re-enter your desired settings in a newly-created preferences file.

  • Safari 5.0.1 hangs, won't load pages. Can you help?

    My MacBook Pro w/OS X (10.5.8) running Safari 5.0.1 will load one light-weight page, maybe two, then hangs when indefinitely while trying to load any other page. The status bar in the lower-most left corner says (for example) "contacting www.google.com" but nothing else happens. Nothing. I've tried "Safari > Reset Safari..." and it misbehaves there, too. When I select "Close all Safari Windows" they close, then the default page launches immediately. I have restarted the software, restarted the computer, trashed plists (but saved my bookmark plist!), trashed the application and the Library/Safari files then downloaded a fresh version of 5.0.1. Despite my efforts, the exact same problem persists.
    For what it's worth, this problem was solved the one time it's done this in the past with the Safari > Reset Safari... function, but not this time. Also for what it's worth, I learned just tonight that this problem (and the one other time it happened before) manifested itself after my daughter ripped images from Tumblr and posted them on Facebook.

    Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions...
    manifested itself after my daughter ripped images from Tumblr and posted them on Facebook.
    Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Now open the Library folder, then the Internet Plug-Ins folder.
    If you see this file in the Internet Plug-ins folder fbplugin1_01.plugin move it to the Trash.
    It's a Facebook plugin that is not compatible with Safari 5.0.1
    If you don't see the plugin, in that same Finder window, in the same Library folder, open the Cookies folder and move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.
    And in that same Library folder, open the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder and move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
    If nothing has helped, login on your Mac to another account. Try Safari there.

  • How to install flash without rendering Safari useless?

    Hi folks. I have an ancient (2007) MBP running 10.7.4.
    Several months ago, after installing 10.7, Safari stopped connecting 95% of the time regardless of user account, so I used Firefox until a few weeks ago when I was able to get Safari to work by removing ADOBE FLASH plugins. I also installed CLICK TO PLUGIN. The other day I needed to watch a video and was bummed to be told I needed FLASH. So I downloaded it, hoping that somehow all would be fine, or at least that I could use CTP to turn the flash plugin off. Sure enough, after downloading FLASH from Adobe's site, Safari quit working, but for some reason, only for my main user account.
    Any ideas?
    BTW: I should mention that the onset of this problem coincided with other ongoing problems:
    (1) ridiculous fan noise
    (2) system will not automatically join home wifi network
    (3) system will not sleep when scheduled, only when ordered to or when top is closed
    Thanks!

    First, uninstall Flash: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html
    Follow the instructions carefully.
    Then, install Flash: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    ... Safari quit working, but for some reason, only for my main user account.
    If Safari is misbehaving only for your account, you can try several remedies in the following order:
    Reset Safari: Safari menu. Check all the boxes that appear relevant.
    Clear Safari's cache: Depending on your version of Safari, that may be in the Safari menu. If it is not there, then go to Safari's Preferences > Advanced, and enable the Develop menu. "Empty Caches" will appear in the Develop menu.
    IF that does not fix things, then there is some other problem with your user account. Check your login items and whatever third party programs you may have installed. In particular, uninstall any and all third party "anti-virus" or similar snake oil utilities.
    Next problem: Problems related to fans, power, or sleep all justify an SMC reset:
    Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
    Shut down the computer.
    Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery (to remove the battery - click here: MacBook or MacBook Pro).
    Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Next problem: if your Mac is not automatically joining your home Wi-Fi, try this: Turn off AirPort from the AirPort icon. Then go to System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced button. Remove any networks that are "remembered" but leave the box "Remember networks this computer has joined" checked. Click OK, then Apply. Turn on AirPort in the AirPort icon, then join your home network.

  • How do I keep logged in on websites with Safari?

    Hi everyone,
    I have encountered a new problem: Safari can't keep me logged in on some of the sites that I visit daily, like Hotmail, Flickr, iMDB, ebay and Gmail. The browser remembers my usernames & passwords, but I still get logged off automatically within a few hours once I logged into a site. Firefox doesn't have this problem. Is it possible to stay logged in using Safari? Thanks!

    Sometimes cookies can get corrupted. You'll have to recover your password for those sites before proceeding so that you can re-enter them after taking the steps below.
    Safari menu -> Preferences -> Security -> edit the cookies and delete the cookies for the sites that are misbehaving. I'm seeing a similar issue in Safari 3.0.4, and just did that solution. We'll see if it solves it or not.

  • Safari Error Console: Stop it from clearing or view it in another source?

    Firefox is misbehaving when I try to edit content locally so I've turned to Safari. The problem is the Error Console only displays errors for the current page. The problem with this is I have a link that's not behaving properly and when I call it it logs an error. The error is only there long enough for the next page to load. That's not long enough for me to look, obviously.
    So is there a way to make Safari's error console show every error it receives until I clear it or otherwise view it in the Console app or Text Edit? Something?
    Latest versions of OS X and Safari.

    The one option I tried in that area was to disable all links via javascript but then things never seemed to work.
    Ironically, it was something to do with local development as once the site hit the net it worked flawlessly.
    Either way, I'd prefer a way to view errors and not have them clear from the log the second I move to a new page.

  • Text misbehaving

    I'm not sure where to go with this one.
    My mac has suddenly forgotten to wrap text properly in chat windows (msn) and some other programs. It lets the text run right out of the window so I have to expand the box as long as it takes just in order to see all the text. It is also overlapping text in random places too making it illegible.
    Any idea how to fix this? I havent knowingly changed any settings, and my computer is fully up to date, although it was doing this before and after updating to 10.4.8
    Philippa

    By chat I was referring to Adium.
    The text runs outside the window without wrapping in adium, meebo (online chat site), software update programe, and safari. Safari is by far the worst, although it only misbehaves in certain websites. I mainly use firefox (which is fine) though so it doesn't bother me so much.
    The text only seems to overlap when there is a link, or an emotion in a chat programe - it seems to confuse it somehow.

    Based on the very limited information you have supplied, I would suggest that you go through the following to see to what extent it applies to your problem:
    Safari 4.1.2 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
    Safari 5.0.2 for Leopard (and Snow Leopard) can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta and which was updated to v.3.1.2, and now Tiger uses Safari 4.1.2 and Leopard uses Safari 5.0.2, as does Snow Leopard albeit a different version.

  • Spry menu vanishes in Safari

    Hi
    I have just started developming my first site with s Spry Horizontal Menu.
    Although the site's not finished I have put what I have done up on the server on the clients secondary domain. He called me to say the nav had gone a bit strange when he looked at it on his new laptop. I decided that although it looks fine on my m/c with IE and Firefox, I downloaded Safari to check it's OK with that and hey presto the nav has vanished without a trace!!!
    Any one any ideas as to why. the url is http://www.fw-lighting.co.uk/home.html
    Does Safari not support Spry?
    Thanx

    Fortunately it does, in fact when the original Spry files are used, ALL browsers support Spry.
    Unfortunately your page misbehaves in < IE8  as well as Safari
    That is why I would like to suggest that you
    replace YOUR version of SpryHorizontalMenuBar.css with the original
    modify
    #navbar {
        background-color: #3a3289;
        height: 30px;
        width: 1000px;
    to
    #navbar in your stylesheet  to {
        margin-left: 560px;
        3. add the following style rules to your page making sure that these are loaded after SpryHorizontalMenuBar.css.
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {
        background-color: #3A3289;
        color: #FFF;
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li {
        width: auto;
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul {
        width: auto;
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li {
        display: block;
        float: none;
        width: auto;
        white-space: nowrap;
        border-bottom: solid 1px #EEE;
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemSubmenu {
        padding: 0.5em 2em 0.5em 0.75em;
    At a later stage you can create a file called myStyles.css, place the above style rules in there and bind the new stylesheet to your page.
    I hope this helps.
