Safari 3.03 for Mac has high CPU usage usually above 70%
I look at the Activity Monitor and it shows Safari using a lot of CPU % around 70 % and some times near 100%
This High CPU usage is also a problem that has just started recently on my G4/667/1.5Gig Ram with a "Giga" 1.33GHz upgrade running System 10.4.10. My machine has been wonderful for years with this processor. I'm running Safari 2.0.4. When i did the last upgrades to my software I started having some real bad behavior from my mac. High CPU usage in safari (80-98%) for 3-5 minutes then normal like now I'm at 6-10% (Normal)as I type this in Safari. Safari is crashing when I try to open the Apple in store training site! Mail was crashing on my wife's login not mine though. Throwing out her mail Prefs fixed that. The Upgrades that seem to trigger this are Java for Mac OS 10.4 Release 6, Quick Time 7.3.1, GarageBand 4.1.1, iPhoto Update, iTunes 7.5. It sure feels like that last set of upgrades has made a mess of my mac. I suspect the Java update. How do I fix this mess???? [email protected]

ITunes 10.6 has High CPU Usage when switched to Mini Player
iTunes has high CPU usage when switched to mini player. The CPU usage goes to 80-100% when the next song is played in Mini Player. iTunes then stays at high CPU usage.
Upon exiting mini player the CPU usage will drop back to the normal 0-5% levels.
This only happens when playing from the main music library; which my library is at 7089 items, 42.04 GB.
When playing from a smaller playlist such as a smart playlist with about 15 songs in it for example, the CPU usage stays low/normal.Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
• Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
• Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
• Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
• Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

Latest flashplayer not work well, even the early version in 11x and has high CPU usage
why is it that flashplayer 11x always has a High CPU Usage? detected by NOrton Antivirus
you can't rely on norton antivirus.
but if you check your active processes and directly confirm a problem with flash player 11+, uninstall your current flash player (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html or http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html) and install an older version: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html -
Z87-G45 has High CPU Usage from "System Interrupts" from USB EHCI#2
After install of Z87-G45 Board and associated drivers the CPU was being consumed by high System Interrupts. I finally tracked this down to the device named Intel(R) Series/C220 Series USB EHCI#2 - 8C2D device. When I disable this in device manager the high cpu immediately drops to 0.1% or less and when I reenable it the CPU consumption goes back to 50% of one core of an i5-4670K under Windows 7 64-bit Of course disabling it turns off most of the USB 2.0 ports.
I have unplugged all USB2.0 headers from the board, updated bios to 1.5, updated the device driver from 9.4.0.1017 to 9.4.0.1025 (7/31/2013), installed the new Intel ME 90 driver pack released on 10/29 and none of this has helped.
Is this a faulty board or is there something else to try?Quote
It was a motherboard swap not a fresh install.
Hopefully you don't have any other problems. This is the recommended way to go.
Quote
Problem solved. For the benefit of others who may run into this kind of problem here is my solution. Look for articles on "remove unused USB devices" as a guide. You will be surprised how much junk is left installed on your system. Anything ever plugged in will leave garbage behind.
Go to control panel->System->Advanced system settings on left then under Advanced pick Environment Variables at the bottom.
Create a new variable name = devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices and value = 1
logout/reboot
go to device manager and under view menu pick show hidden devices.
Now manually go through and remove all the grayed out devices, especially under the USB controllers section but worthwhile to remove all the old garbage. Reboot when done.
As always make backups before you start.

I'm using Vibe Desktop Version 1.0.1 (17445) on Mac OSX 10.8. During file syncronization there is a realy high CPU load:

I'm the Novell developer responsible for Vibe Desktop and I'm sorry for the delayed response...I've been out of the office. Can you give me a little more information? I want to get a better feel for when the high CPU usage occurs.
Approximately how many files are synced to your Desktop?
When you click on the icon in the menu bar and select "Synchronize Now", how long does it take and how is the CPU usage? The first time you sync all the files down to your desktop can take some time, but once everything is in sync, forcing it to synchronize should not be very resource intensive. Is the high CPU utilization only when it is has files to download, or is it also high when there is nothing to download?
When Vibe Desktop is not syncing, it's still watching the file system for changes you make to the local copies of the files. Do you see noticeable CPU utilization when Vibe Desktop is not syncing? -
Hi All,
I'm experiencing constant high CPU usage (90%) above on a 3560 switch. I have rebooted the switch. The problem persists. I've had a look at the 'show cpu processes sort' command and I have observed 'FIFO error Detec' is using more than 7% of the CPU.
Has anyone experienced this before? I've never seen the 'FIFO Error Detec'Hey Martin,
When you see there Fifo Error Detection than you have to think that there is something wrong with the queue on one of the interfaces so I suggest looking for that interface. Moroever you mentioned that CPU usage is over 90%, so you may have to check other processes as well.
HTH.

Securityd - high cpu usage. Yosemite 10.10.3
Hi,
I have upgraded to 10.10.3 and I am having issues with the process securityd. It constantly has high cpu usage and its causing the cpu temp to heat up. I did a clean install of yosemite at 10.10.2. Also other weird stuff is happening, such as when i click the button to open the notification/today sidebar, it gets highlighted so i know it has registered the click but the sidebar doesn't open. When i click it again, it opens.
Any Ideas to fix this that ideally don't require a full reinstall (Doing exams at the moment, takes time to reinstall stuff).
I have the latest 15 inch retina macbook pro. 2.2 i7 and 16gb ram.
Thanks,

Does anyone has this problem of high CPU usage?
For example I open four tabs, and don't do anything, but the CPU runs at 35-50%
When I open the same tabs in Opera, the cpu runs on 5-10%
Basically Safari is always in the top three of CPU eaters
I am running Safari 3.0.4.
At least this one doesn't crash anymore
thanks,You might want to read this about XSS and Adobe Flash.

I assume you have the latest java and flash updates. The biggest problems with any browser when you do updates, is older cache and temp files can cause problems and best deleted first.
The latest ADC (free registration) version seems fine, but I'm the type that browses the web with plug-ins disabled, and javascript enabled for specific sites, not universally. -
Skype 4.2.0.11 has abnormally high CPU usage while...
Skype 4.2.0.11 has abnormally high CPU usage while idle.
I can't get my laptop under 70 degrees celsius unless I cpulimit or quit skype, and cpulimiting it actually makes it completely unresponsive, as if some other thread is constantly generating a lot of work and taking priority over the UI thread.
What the heck is skype doing? (And why do any of its threads need nice -10?) It takes up more CPU time than pulseaudio, truecrypt, and deluged combined.
Its CPU usage is constantly between 5 and 50 percent*, it's absolutely horrible.
*While idle. I'm unable to make calls.
I know this is expected from a linux user, but for all I know, Skype is malware. It's not open-source, so I can't find out for myself, and there are no open-source alternatives so the frankly shameful amount of bugs I encounter in Skype will never be fixed.
There are several bugs I'd love to be fixed in Skype, but first, PLEASE, optimize your code. It's absolutely horriffic at the moment.Attached are statistics from my desktop over approximately a 24 hour period for the processes shown (other than firefox and adb).
Pulseaudio tops skype this time but that's because I've had music playing through mpd for a few hours. Skype uses more than 16 times the CPU that pidgin does, and almost double the RAM! RAM isn't shown in the screenshot but take my word for it. Bear in mind that I haven't taken (or made) any calls in this period of time, and pidgin has been signed into three different services and using encrypted chat.
I really wish that at least the protocol would be documented so someone could work around this, at the moment I don't think the guys writing skype realize just how unstable the linux port is. At least it's better than the Android port.
[Edit for those unfamiliar with linux processes: "TIME" is the cumulative time that the program has been scheduled for on any core, effectively making it a measure of total CPU usage for a given time period]

Possible simple fix for Yosemite freeze/high CPU etc
Short version: Update tom latest version of Dropbox client for OSX
Description:
Running OS X 10.10 on 2011 MBP w/ 840 EVO SSD
Everything was running great for a week or so, then started experiencing high CPU usage, and ultimately the system would stop responding. Lot's of strange error messages in syslog brought me to the forums, but no answers.
Initially, I thought the trouble was caused by 3rd party kext's loading since I had disabled signing and forcibly enable trim. In the end, I disabled trim and reset the driver signing to defaults and followed basic troubleshooting posted elsewhere here to regain control:
Boot safe mode
SMC reset
PRAM reset
After this, I enabled trim, etc but ran into trouble yet again. So I started looking at apps one at a time. I downloaded and installed the latest Dropbox client, and everything has been great since. I believe (in my case) the older version of Dropbox that had not been updated since Mavericks seemed to be the culprit. I wrongly assumed that this couldn't happen due to Sandboxing, but I'm not a software engineer.
Hope this helps.
BKåUnfortunately, this did NOT work for me. I am still stuck and have done everything. I lost my original user name and now have my long email address as my user ID... bummer. Also, I had a very simple password that I lost, too, because I was trying to reset things. Also, a big bummer!!'
This is day 4 for me now and I am still not able to use my credit card!!! -
High CPU usage, Live Ultra for Notebooks
I've been using the Live Ultra for Notebooks for a while, and it has consistently high CPU usage. It breaks down to about 50-60% for the driver (V0070Vid.sys thread, in the "System" process) and then a bit more (+5%) for DPC's. Combined with the host application (Skype, 25% CPU) means the whole thing essentially takes over my CPU.
Is this typical CPU usage for this webcam? I've used other ones, and I seem to remember that CPU usage was a lot lower. I have this problem on 2 different computers.
AMD Sempron 300+
GB Ram
Windows 2000 SP4
Please post what webcam, CPU, OS, and about how much CPU % your webcam takes. I'd like to see if these results are normal. Thanks.I also have a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Basic. I tried to install the "BETA" Vista drivers for this camera (VF0070) and it says the driver is only for Vista 32-bit and 64-bit. Is there a solution to this? Should I just return this and go buy a Logitech instead?

High cpu usage for garbage collection (uptime vs total gc time)
Hi Team,
We have a very high cpu usage issue in the production.
When we restart the server, the cpu idle time would be around 95% and it comes down as days goes by. Today idle cpu is 30% and it is just 6th day after the server restart.
Environemnt details:
Jrockit version:
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_05-b04)
BEA WebLogic JRockit(TM) 1.4.2_05 JVM R24.4.0-1 (build ari-38120-20041118-1131-linux-ia32, Native Threads, GC strategy: parallel)
Gc Algorithm: JRockit Garbage Collection System currently running strategy: Single generational, parallel mark, parallel sweep
Number Of Processors: 4
Max Heap Size: 1073741824
Total Garbage Collection Time: 21:43:56.5
Uptime: 114:33:4.1
Total Garbage Collection Count: 420872
Total Number Of Threads: 198
Number Of Daemon Threads: 191
Can you guys please tell me what would be problem in the server which causing the high cpu usage?
One more thing I would like to know is that why the total number of threads is 198 when we specified the Executor pool size as 25? I agree that weblogic would create some threads for its maintenance but around 160 threads!!! something is wrong I guess.
Santhosh.
[email protected]Hi,
I'm having a similar problem, but haven't been able to resolve it yet. Troubleshooting is made even harder by the fact that this is only happening on our production server, and I've been unable to reproduce it in the lab.
I'll post whatever findings I have and hopefully we'll be able to find a solution with the help of BEA engineers.
In my case, I have a stand-alone Tomcat server that runs fine for about 1-2 days, and then the JVM suddenly starts using more CPU, and as a result, the server load shoots up (normal CPU utilization is ~5% but eventually goes up to ~95%; load goes from 0.1 to 4+).
What I have found so far is that this corresponds to increased GC activity.
Let me list my environment specs before I proceed, though:
CPU: Dual Xeon 3.06GHz
RAM: 2GB
OS: RHEL4.4 (2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp)
JVM build 1.5.0_03-b07 (BEA JRockit(R) (build dra-45238-20050523-2008-linux-ia32, R25.2.0-28))
Tomcat version 5.5.12
JAVA_OPTS="-Xms768m -Xmx768m -XXtlasize16k -XXlargeobjectlimit16k -Xverbose:memory,cpuinfo -Xverboselog:/var/log/tomcat5/jvm.log -Xverbosetimestamp"
Here are excerpts from my verbose log (I'm getting some HT warning, not sure if that's a problem):

So, I'm running with the default GC strategy which lets the GC pick the most suitable approach (single space or generational). It seems to switch to generational almost immediately and runs well - most GC runs are in the nursery, and only once in a while it goes through the older space.
Now, if you look at [Sun Oct 22 02:50:27 2006], that's when everything changes. GC starts running every second (later on it's running 3 times a second) doing huge sweeps. It never goes through the nursery again, although the strategy is still generational.
It's all downhill from this point on, and it's a matter of hours (maybe a day) before we restart the server.
I guess my only question is: What would cause such GC behavior?
I would appreciate your ideas/comments!
Thanks,
