Safari 3.1.1 installer doesn't recognize OS 10.5.3 on my drive

I'm told by the installer that I need at least OS 10.5.2, but I already have 10.5.3.

Of course, because you can't install from the download; you must use your OS X 10.5 install disc and browse to the Optional Installs folder, then launch the Optional Installs package and select which application(s) you want to install.
After you're done, Repair Permissions and use Software Update to be sure you have the latest version of Safari for your version of 10.5.

  • 10.6 Installer Doesn't Recognize RAID0 Volume

I currently have 10.5 installed on a 4-disk RAID0 volume on our Mac Pro. I am attempting to upgrade to 10.6 to the same volume, but the installer does not recognize it. The only installable volumes are the externals I have attached for Time Machine and some storage. I found the KB on the fsck is running so the volume isn't being displayed until it finishes, but I let the install sit overnight, and ran the terminal command to see if it was still running, and it was not. Still no RAID0 volume in the installable list. What else might cause this?

I had a similar problem with the 10.6 Installer not recognizing my RAID as updateable - didn't even "see" it. After consulting with the local MAC genius at the store I confirmed an upgrade path which was successful and listed below.
I was running Leopard 10.5.8 on a mirrored RAID containing two 500 GB drives with a third drive installed running Tiger.
    My steps:
    1. After erasing the third drive, cloned the RAID (10.5.8) to the third drive (Disaster Relief) using Drive Genius 3.
    2. Upgraded the drive to 10.6.4 (computer automatically restarts from the 10.6 drive)
    3. Used the Disk Utility in 10.6 to delete the old 10.5 RAID
    4. Erased each of the 500 GB drives. (I used the "write zeros" security option)
    5. Scanned each drive for bad blocks using Drive Genius 3 (just precautionary not necessary - hey I'm a bit paranoid with hard drives)
    6. Recreated the mirrored RAID in 10.6
    7. Cloned the 10.6 drive, Disaster Relief, to the new RAID
    8. Restarted on the new RAID as my normal startup disk.
    Notes:
    a. Recommend you disable Time Machine during the process.
    b. If you have Filemaker, be sure to deactivate BEFORE you upgrade the system or your activation key will not work after upgrade and you will have to call Filemaker for a new key.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Somehow Windows 10 preview installer doesn't recognize bootcamp partition/disk which is in GPT.

    This problem became tricky now.
I already searched this support communities and found many similar questions.
But most of them were that the disk is in GPT but Windows expected MBR.
There is another case where Windows installer expects GPT but the disk is in MBR.
    My case is different.
The Disk Utility says the disk is in GPT. (GUID Partition Table.)
And I used Bootcamp Assistant to partition the disk.
However, the Windows 10 Technical Preview installer thinks that it's in MBR. (yes. It's for 64bit.)
So, it looks to me that Windows installer somehow obtain the disk partition information wrongly.
Are there any people who were successful in installing Windows 10 Technical Preview?
<Fig.1> Disk Utility shows that it has GPT.
<Fig.2> windows installer thinks that it's in MBR, although it's actually in GPT.
    Is there any

Yes. It looks to be so. I've also read somewhere at MSDN site : GPT can contain MBR.
However, still it looks to me that its either/both Apple and MS implementation issue.Disk Utility says it's in GPT, but Windows installer doesn't think so.
I also tried DISKPART on windows to see if what partition type it thought, but it didn't give me such information.
What is even more interesting was VirtualBox. I decided to install on VirtualBox, and if "Enable EFI" option is on, the x64 version of Win 10 TP version couldn't be installed. I had to turn it off. So, according to MS, Win 10 for x64 is GPT-only. (I read so.. maybe I'm wrong.) but the "Enable EFI" mode should be turned off. Anyway, I decided to install on VM although it's slow for now.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  • Time machine doesn't recognize old time machine backups after new drive

After getting my original hard drive replaced on apple care. Time machine refuses to recognize time machine backups dating back to October when I first installed Leopard. The Records are there on an "off-board" Lacie drive. Any fixes for this? I have had so many problems with Time Machine I am afraid to turn it back on. Last time it took over 40 hours to do an initial back-up.

Yes I had been having multiple problems and once saved the entire system in archive and install and also time machine had been active since October when I first installed it. all of this was saved to an off-board Lacie drive I can find the old time machine files easily enough but time machine since the new drive, does not recognize them. Since I got the drive back with tiger installed, I first had to re-install Leopard so I don't know if that caused Time machine to start over . I did do an archive and install at that time but there was nothing really to archive since they had not recovered my old files. If this wasn't bad enough The Technician replaced my administrator password with his own and the was off for a few days and I couldn't do anything for awhile. You have been very helpful thank you for your time on my behalf.

  • Windows Installer Doesn't Recognize BOOT CAMP Partition

    Hello,
I need help and cannot find the answer anywhere on the Internet. I created a 15 gig Windows partition through boot camp successfully. My macbook restarted to run windows installer and I got through all of the screens except where it asks which partition I want to install windows on (Only gives the option of C: which is the size of my Mac OSX drive). I didn't want to install over that drive since it'll write over my Leopard OS. Does anyone know why it won't recognize the boot camp partition? I show the partition on my desktop and in my drive directory.
I also am using an old Windows XP CD that I am not sure if it has SP2 on it. I know we NEED SP2 but I'm wondering if the CD might not contain the SP2 then it won't recognize the partition (maybe the reason for needing SP2). I thought that it would still install it just wouldn't work if we updated to SP2... any ideas?!?
Thanks for any help in advance!

You do need SP2 or later, and even then, some discs do what yours did, don't prompt for target partition or give any option, AND auto select the full OS X partition.
Unless you can slipstream a full SP2 I'd shop for an SP3 disc, and make sure you aren't cutting the partition size short (and leaving 20% free on OS X at least afterwards).

  • Installer doesn't recognize Giga CPU accelerator

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone in the Mac community can help me out here, because I've done a ton of on-line info searching to no avail.
I am trying to install v10.5 on my old G4. A few years ago I bought a CPU accelerator, which runs at 1.8 GHz. So I actually meet the minimum system requirements for CPU speed. But when I boot up from the installation CD, it tells me I don't meet the requirements.
I believe the other requirements are fine. I have 640 MB of RAM, more than the required 512. I have loads of disk space, more than the 9-12 GB recommended. So I don't see what else could be the problem, other than the installer is somehow not recognizing the CPU accelerator.
Has anyone else run into this problem, and figured out how to fix it? I'd rather not have to go the "hack the disk image" route.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Not all CPU accelerators are recognized by Leopard. Leopard only sees the original CPU and speed. We found this out last year when Leopard came out. Some accelerators have Leopard updates, others did/do not.
If you cannot update your accelerator you might try installing Leopard via target disk mode from a second computer, PPC of course, that does meet the specs. No guarantee that after all that the system will run or if it does run it may run at original speed.
Also even 640MB RAM is a bit low for running Leopard on a G4. Best to max it out. And here again, we discovered that Leopard is very fussy about RAM. It tests and requires the RAM to meet or exceed all the Apple specs. No skimping here or there. Just because Tiger runs on the RAM does not mean Leopard will.

  • ITunes doesn't recognize iPhone and Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is missing

Hi. iTunes does not recognize my iPhone when I connect it to my PC via USB. I found iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows and went through the listed steps to diagnose the problem. The problem seems to be the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. It is not listed in Device Manager and it does not seem to be installed on my PC. I followed directions for "If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed" and I was not able to find anything. In that case there are no further steps that you can take listed on iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes. I then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and other software components (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923) three times but each time Apple Mobile Device USB Drive was missing. If anyone can advise me I would greatly appreciate it.
    iTunes: iTunes 11.1.5 for Windows
    iPhone: 4.3.3
    PC: Windows 7

See TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5.

  • Safari doesn't recognize http addresses

    When I input:
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/academy/devonthink/videos/videotutorial- 1.mov
to safari, I get the error message:
Safari can’t open “http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/academy/devonthink/videos/videotutorial- 1.mov” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “http:”.
Huh? firefox had no problems opening the page.

Thanks for the response. Two questions:
    1. I should know this, but it's been a long time, how do I create a new account? I know the account manager will allow to designate the new account as an admin.
    2. Why is a new account needed?

I've also been getting an image with the folder and question mark. I've tried everything on the apple support page but it doesn't seem to work either.

Well, I tried all of your suggestions and they didn't work -- no surprise because I was trying to backup to my external c.d. disk.  Duh!  The application for the home is in the mail.

  • How do I keep my installer from trying to update with Photoshop instead of installer? Quark can't update because the installer opens Photoshop which doesn't recognize the file and I'm not given the option to choose anything else.

    1. Sync wasn't intended to be used in that manner. You would be better off carrying around a USB Flash Stick with Portable Firefox for use on "strange" PC's.
    2. You could open the "Library" {Ctrl + Shift + B} and highlight all those bookmarks and then delete them all at once. But that would also delete all the other bookmarks, and it isn't foolproof. All another person would need to do it to '''''restore''''' a bookmark backup file that has your bookmarks. Beyond that, a new Profile could be created and then the current Profile deleted; but that's "messing with" someone else's computer - an action that is worthy of terminating a friendship over, IMO.
And if that "public" computer was set up properly, Sync should have been disabled.

  • Safari doesn't recognize latest upload into iPhoto since installing 10.6

I use a website that requires me to upload photos. However, ever since I foolishly installed Snow Leopard Safari doesn't recognize the latest photos in iPhoto until after I close and re-open Safari. Indeed, sometimes that doesn't even work. Any ideas, or is Snow Leopard Apple's ME and no hope for a solution?

I suggest you back up your Mac, then use Software Update (in the preferences window) to install the update.
Interesting. I get better results with the Combo updaters:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048
(.. and I run Disk Utility -> Repair Permissions after every software install or update.)

  • Safari 1.24 (OS X 10.3.8) doesn't recognize "disabled" attribute

In Safari 1.24 (OS X 10.3.8), Safari doesn't recognize "disabled" attribute when the input type="password". It works correctly when the input type="text". Is there any work around this issue ? Upgrading to newer Safari is not the answer I'm looking for.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
If it's a bug in Safari's handling of the input element, then no there's nothing you can do to get around it.
What are you trying to achieve? If you explain your aims maybe someone could offer an alternative solution.
