Safari 3.1.1 RSS stalls

I've been having the same latency issue with Safari 3.1.1 - page loading takes forever. But I noticed that page loads work normally at first, but as soon as I check a newsfeed, then the page loading stalls. So it appears to be an issue with RSS feeds. Any ideas about how to get 3.1.1 to read RSS feeds?

Exact same problem here, this is not new however, maybe since Leopard. RSS loading stalls at time, over 30s sometimes and locks Safari completely for that period of time.
This is the single most annoying thing on my Macs right now.

  • How do I change the way Safari 6.0 uses RSS feeds?

Before I updated my safari to 6.0, I had a button with my RSS-sources in the menu bar in Safari. When I clicked one of the sources it contains, it would open in a new tab (in Safari) the RSS feed for that source.
However, ever since I've updated Safari to 6.0, it opens the RSS feed in Mail (I haven't changed any settings what so ever) in a way that is not handy for me.
In the normal preferences menu, I can't find any way to change RSS settings. And when I use the Help button, and search for RSS, I don't find anything either.
Is there anybody who knows how to solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Steven

    Thanks for the quick reply.
However, this didn't solve the issue. It puts a button in the menu that helps you save an RRS feed. And when you press this button, Mail opens up to store the feed.
I'd like Safari to open the RSS feeds again, like it used to.

  • Safari mangles url for rss feed

I have a local test 'domain' on my 10.4.11 system. That domain name is cvwa without any dots. This has the ip address of localhost and/or the ip address of the internal network (like 10.0.0.8). Urls like http://cvwa/default.shtml work perfectly on both Safari and on Firefox. However, if I use http://cvwa/tryrss.xml, Safari first, briefly shows feed://cvwa/tryrss.xml (as it should) but then immediately changes to http://tryrss.xml/ which, of course does not exist. Firefox has no trouble with it and correctly handles the feed. Further, if I put the same xml file on the outside with a complete domain name like www.cvwa.org, then both Safari and Firefox correctly deal with the feed. Is Safari broken or am I doing something bad? The test feed is http://www.cvwa.org/tryrss.xml if you think the xml is at fault.
I have turned proxies off completely for this test but it is the same on or off.
10.4.11, Safari 3.1 (but behaved the same just before the recent update to Safari)

Go to your blog and click on the RSS button in the URL window of Safari to view the rss feed.  Then copy the RSS feed page's URL from the URL field at the top.

  • Safari does not renew RSS

Since the update to 10.4.8 Safari doesn't work right with the RSS-Feeds. Safari doesn't look for new feeds anymore. When I move to the sites manually, they are shown in orange for beeing new but there is no announcements from Safari (number after the RSS-Bookmark).
There was allready a post to this and I read it. There was posted to remove the file ~Libary/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist.
I did exactly that, I also repaired my userrights and also made a new installation of the OS with using the combo-update.
I'm very sad about this because this was the feature that let's me use Safari and not the faster Shiira or Camino and in the next 2 or 3 weeks I want to become a .mac-member with using the sync-function for the beookmarks.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks!

    Hello Stefsen: )
Since the update to 10.4.8 Safari doesn't work right with the RSS-Feeds
Did you QUIT Safari, not just close the window before moving the .plist files
Did you you reboot the computer twice after the os update?
Run Disc Permissions repair with the disk Utiliy again,
If it reports errors, run it again, now do a restart, when the computer comes back up, restart once again.
    Does that help any ?
If not QUIT all applications & remove the.plist files to the trash adding the 2 items .
    Home~/Libary/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist.
    Home~/Libary/Preferences/com.apple.Sherlock.plist
    Home~/Libary/Caches/RSS Syndication folder
Do a restart of your computer.
Good luck, please let us know if that helps.

  • Safari 6.0.5 randomly stalls on loading pages which eventually load after hitting refresh several times. Also youtube videos will not play (blank window).

For the last few days, I've been experiencing problems with Safari 6.0.5 stalling while apparently trying to load a web page. It seems to occur randomly either when manually entering a URL address or clicking a link on a loaded web page or web search results. Using the URL bar to enter a search term is also subject to the same random stalling.
The problem is usually resolved by repeated reloads of the page (or re entering the search term or manual URL address). However the frequency with which I have to do this has become really quite annoying.
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows the cause/solution?
    Thanks
    Toby

<edit: youtube issue resolved by uninstalling all my extensions. still testing safari to see if it continues to stall randomly>

  • Safari, Mountain Lion No RSS?

Why cant Safari in Mountain Lion read RSS feeds?
It says "No RSS reader is installe." ***?

Some users complained about losing all of their saved RSS feed data from within the Mail client after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Although it’s no longer visible in Mail, past RSS content can be found under User > Library > Mail > V2 > RSS.
The Library folder is accessible under the Go menu in Finder when you hold down the Option key.

  • 'Reset Safari does not clear rss feeds' cache before restart

Everything is in the subject line. Reset Safari doesn't seem to clear the rss feed cache, until Safari is quit and restarted.

It's possible that your ISP is serving up the "older" file.
    Do this to "trick" it:
    Old URL = http://apple.com
Change the URL in the browser address and add a question mark at the end of the URL:
    New URL = http://apple.com?

  • Safari 3.1.2 RSS issues

Brand new Mac Pro. I can't get Safari's RSS pages to display the colored backdrop for new items. They all look old. What to do?

    Hello Gary:
As far as I know, that function is not implemented when reading RSS feeds. In my case, I have the RSS pages to be sorted new new>all>all. That, of course has the latest articles at the top. If you notice, all new feeds have a little dot at the left. If you read that page the dot is deleted. I realize this is not what you are looking for, but I thought I would, at least, give you a thought.

  • Safari only displays first RSS item

I have an RSS feed (openbar.2kmegs.com/fnews/fastnews-rss.php), which displays correctly in firefox and google reader and is w3c valid, however Safari 4.0.3 only displays the first feed item.
I've submitted it as a bug to apple, but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before.
    Any ideas?

turns out Safari doesn't like non-unique RSS link tags, even though it is valid according to the spec.

What should I do to have the issue go away?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • SAFARI, FIREFOX, IE / PAGE LOADING STALLS

I'm experiencing the same problem on all three browsers. When I open a new page in the browser window, the load process stalls -- usually when it is trying to load one of the last 2 or 3 items.
This problem started about a week ago.
I've cleared the caches, and deleted the cookies. I removed and reinstalled Firefox - my preferred browser.
    G4 / 933MHz / 1GB   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi, Gary. From your description, it doesn't sound as if the browsers are stalling — it just sounds as though the pages in question weren't designed and thoroughly tested to load properly on various different browsers. Unfortunately, that's more nearly the rule than the exception: it's unusual for any page to be displayed exactly identically in two different browsers, never mind three or more different browsers. If the page-loading progress bar reaches completion, and you are able to use buttons and links that appear on the pages, then you're getting everything you can in each of the browsers you use — but not necessarily the same stuff in each browser. If you only had a single browser, you'd never know you were missing anything on the web sites you visit unless a freind who could see the missing features told you about them. With three browsers to choose from, use the one that most satisfactorily renders each web site you frequent. This may mean switching from browser to browser as you move from one web site to another. It's a drag, but the web site designers are to blame for failing to test and debug their sites more thoroughly.

  • Safari installed with Snow Leopard stalls, slow typing, generally awful

What is the deal with this?
I just did a clean install of snow leopard, to test this. Safari 4.0.3 as installed with snow leopard simply will not open 25% or more of the pages I try to go to, giving a consistent "Safari can't find the server" message. I click on a link, safari hangs for minutes on end and says it can't find the server. I open the same pages with FF and they open immediately. Safari 4.0.3 on OS X 10.5.8 (which I've reverted to because the snow leopard update is SO awful and buggy) worked great. Now it barely works at all.
What happened to Apple? Why did they release an obviously beta-level update to their OS, when the previous version was itself so weak?

    Greetings,
Safari 4.0.3 is not a beta release; the fact that you're having a problem indicates there's a problem on your system. Try these steps to see if they will resolve the issue:
Quit Safari if it's running and open System Preferences>Network>Advanced.
In the DNS Server tab, make sure IPv6 is turned off, and enter these two DNS servers to replace the ones you currently have:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
click Apply Now and quit System Preferences.
Next, do these things in order:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites feature, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
then press Enter and quit Terminal when you see the command prompt again.
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Disk Permissions, restart Safari and see if the speed is improved.

  • Safari 5.1.2: Where is the built-in RSS Reader theme stored?

    Hi all,
Safari's built-in RSS reader menus are displayed in wrong language on my system - does anybody know in which library Apple's blue RSS reader theme and/or it's ressources are stored, so I could check for missing language files? All hints I could find on the web are describing pre-5.1 versions of Safari, and after investigating my current libraries I'm sure the ressources changed, e.g. the SyndicationUI.framework under /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks.
Does anybody have any hints for me?

OK, here's what I'm talking about. This is a screen capture of a tab from the Macintosh version of Safari:
Notice how the "X" to close the tab is on the left-hand side and the text of the tab is centered on the width of the tab.
Here is a screenshot of the Windows version of Safari:
You can see how the tab is much smaller for one, but also how the text is justified to the left with the "X" to close the tab appearing on the right side of the tab instead of the left.
I don't really prefer one over the other (ie. left or right side), I just wondered if there's some setting to make them act the same way on both so that I don't have to constantly remember what OS I'm on in order to remember where the darn "X" is to close the tab.

  • Rss with Safari 6.0

    Hello dear Apple community
I've a new problem with my fantastic mac OS X 10.7.4 . You will tell me, one more, yeah one more, so now i get probably 150 problems with this version, who should be perfect. And it's often the same problem, to use an application, we "Have to", not to say we must, use another apple software. So, the new sheet is about RSS in safari 6.0.
Before my updating, I could read my RSS flux in Safari, where I was happy about that. Now, Safari want add my RSS in Mail. So I have to read news in my boxmail. Something logic ? Not really ...
I deleted already couple of weeks, ok, few months ago "Mail", as Itunes, and Quicktime. Probably you do some fantastic software, but it's too heavy. So I prefer delete them, and save some memory for my other stuff. Why mail, download all the time, all my e-mail ? I don't need that. If I want read my e-mails, I go on Gmail. It's so easy. And i've an application, who tell me when i've a new e-mail, i click on, and open for me a new tab. Light. It's the new think that apple should do.
Anyway, I'ld like to know how can i read my RSS Flux on Safari, otherwise Opera is awesome.
    Kind regards, Pierre.

You can't read RSS feeds in Safari 6. You can use Mail, but if you upgrade to OS X 10.8 that won't work either, so I suggest you install a third-party RSS reader, such as "Vienna." There are many others.
