Safari 3.1.2 will not install on Mac witg OSX 10.5.5

My Safari was acting erattically. Not finding helper applicatione like Adobe reader etc...
So I uninstalled it (Dragged it to the trash and went for a new install)
When I run the installer I get a message thst says
"You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or newer."
I'm running 10.5.5
Prithie! How do I get Safari to install again?
FYI This is a Mac Server

First of all, if you're using Mac OS X as a server, do you have Mac OS X Server installed, or just the regular Mac OS X?
Secondly, it appears that you don't know what you're doing, since there was nothing wrong with Safari, but you deleted it anyway, without considering the consequences of your actions. Then you expected to download and install it again.
*You cannot do that.* What you downloaded is an updater, which means you had to have Safari 3.0.4 already installed to be able to update it. But you deleted that and so it won't work, no matter what you do. The filename clearly says it's an Update. If you want to reinstall Safari, you must do this:
1. Repair Permissions.
2. Insert your Mac OS X install disc and navigate to the Optional Installs folder and open the Optional Installs.mpkg file.
3. Check the box to install Safari and run the installer; this will install Safari 3.0.4.
4. You can then attempt to apply the Updater you downloaded for Safari, but since you already have 10.5.5 running, it will in all likelihood not work. You will need to download and reapply the 10.5.5 Combo Update to update to Safari 3.1.2.
5. Repair Permissions.
To avoid these problems in the future, don't treat your Mac like it's a PeeCee, where deleting and reinstalling something is a common fix for application issues. On a Mac, the problem is rarely the application, so don't create more work for yourself and others.

  • Safari 8.0.2 will not install

Running Yosemite 10.10.1.  The Safari 8.0.2 will not install.  Says it has installed several times in the App Store but is also still available for download.  Have checked Safari itself and the version is still 8.0.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • PSE 8 will not install on new imac OSX Snow Leopard

    28. Feb 26, 2010 4:16 PM in response to: docmark86
Re: PSE8 will not install on Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.1
I have a new iMac 21.5 screen with OSX Snow Leopard.  I installed IWork and turbo tax with no problem.  Nothing else.
PSE 8 installation fails after about 80% installation just as install for PSE 8 starts. I've spent hours on the phone with Adobe and they blame it on OSX   Error analysis states:   "Uncaught JavaScript exception: Unable to read Adobe file version for path /Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf  Apple techs have also tried."   The latest communications from Adobe instructs me on validating fonts.  We have also tried  CS3 Clean Script since the install failed several times. Case # is 0181442609.    Nothing works and Apple techs are still researching.  Any suggestions from an Adobe professional?  I am new to the Mac environment so any complicated actions may require some "hand holding".
    Thanks to all!
    Doc

Doc, I would suggest go to the font location which from your post is: <Macintosh HD>/Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf. There should be a font file with this name. If it exists, just "cut" it from this location and paste it on the desktop for some time and then try to install PSE again and see if that works.
If the font file doesnt exist and instead an empty folder names "MinionPro-Bold.otf" exists, then delete the folder and then try to install PSE again.
In either case, please do attach the installer log file in the forum thread so that I can have a look at it. They can be located at the below location:
    <Macintosh HD>/Library/Logs/Adobe/Installer/"...Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0...."
If there are multiple copies of the installer log files, then please delete them and then try to install PSE 8 again. If it fails, quit the installer and attach the new log files which are generated to this thread.

  • Safari 3.1 update will not install

    Hey guys,
I downloaded the recent updates, safari 3.1, security update, and the time machine update. They downloaded fine. I click restart so they can update. It restarts fine and the status bar for the update comes up, this is where the problem comes in. The installer will not go past configuring Installation. I left it for 2 hours and it had not moved, I tried it once again a few days later and the same thing occurred. I have a MacBook with 10.5.2. Any suggestions?

I had 3.04 and was trying to download the 3.1 that software update suggested.
I've done a backdoor method that worked.
Going through software update I again had the problem described earlier.
What I ended up doing instead was remembering that I had Internet Explorer for Mac 5.2
I used that browser to go to Apple>support>safari and navigated to a downloads page there.
From there, the (slow) Explorer downloads process (saveas... then choosing desktop) put the "Safari31UpdLeo.dmg" file onto my desktop which when opened gave me the package to use to install Safari 3.1.
    Working just fine it seems.
Go figure--Microsoft Explorer was the key to downloading Safari 3.1 for Mac

  • Flash will not install on Mac OS X.5.7.

Attachment will not open without Flash. Download is successful. menu indicated installation was successful but app does not show up in APPs, therefore attachment will not open.  Apple help said Adobe would have to solve.  This is a MacBook, OS 10.5.7.  I have tried Safari and Firefox.  Same result.  I tried browsing for help but nothing fits.

Hi everyone, I have been having similar problems, I kept getting this message when I'd open a window in safari on mac osx.5.7
"need MINE type plug-in for Adobe plug-in shockwave flashplayer"
I was sent to a bunch of sites. I tried downloading flash player 10 but had no success
hardrive, applications, Utilities folder, Disk utility, then selected the hard drive and clicked "repair disc permissions". apparently this repairs parts of HD and I wanted to try to install FP10 after. Still didn't work, and I got the same message. SO I WENT AND GOOGLED "shockwave flash and went to the Adobe page to DOWNLOAD SHOCKWAVE PLAYER.
    http:/get.adobe.com/shockwave/thankyou/
installed. somehow I can view pages without a problem now but still dont have 10.

  • My java app will not install on mac.

Ok guys, I am planning on getting a new mac soon, but my java app that I use alot will not run on the mac. It comes with an install.sh that does not work. Any idea on how to convert the .bat installer into some shell script? I have uploaded the java app at the link below

I need to somehow have some shell script to do that.
This is just an installer, so you only need to run it once. Run Terminal.app, "cd" to that fodler, and type:
    java -classpath ./;./jars/tools.jar;./jars/nexus.jar impsoft.nexus.installer.Install

  • Dreamweaver mx 2004 will not start on Mac running OSX 10.6.2

Right after installation I go to run Dreamweaver (or any of the mx 2004 suite), the item bounces, then dissepears and does not start up. I looked in the console and found the following item... "translate: MACH_RCV_PORT_CHANGED - INVALID POINTER, RCV BUFFER NOT SWAPPED".
Now, I have found hundreds of people on the internet having the same issue, and the standard replies given, (by the way, never work!). Re-installing does not work, clearing out the preferences does not work, re-installing the OS is not an option (I have a brand new laptop with OSX 10.6.2).
I did see that Adobe had received this error question, but they have removed it from their site. It seems that they do not want to address this issue for some reason. I would like to know how to fix this error. Let's put it this way, Anyone who buys a new Mac, then installs their MX Studio 2004, it will NOT work under any circumstances. I have seen hundreds of other people with the same problem, and never get it resolved. So, do I toss dreamweaver out for good or is there a fix that Adobe will allow anyone to talk about?

Re: "Alternatively, if you don't want to do this, the only other option I am aware of to solve this problem is to buy software like Fusion or Parallels and install Leopard (10.5) as your OS and run MX 2004 within a virtual environment."
Just so this is perfectly clear.....   NO CAN DO
I have VMWare and Parallels on a Brand New MacBook Pro. It came with 10.5.11 and that is absolutely the OLDEST Mac OS I can install in a virtual environment. Believe me, I tried Tiger, Panther and Jaguar to no avail.
If the Mac in question came loaded with Snow Leopard, it has a "Snow Leopard or better" firmware write on the logic board and it will not allow an older OS to be installed.... even in a virtual environment, unless there's a secret that nobody I've spoken to in support for both VM clients knows.

  • AdobeFlashPlayerInstaller_14_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg Will Not Install with Mac OS 10.9.4

Hi all i was prompted to install the new flash update,
i tried to install at first i was getting an error with safari being open, when it was closed, i had forced quit the browser
and also checked Activity Manager to make sure it was shut.
after reading the adobe help information i uninstalled flash and restarted the computer, i started the process again
the safari problem did not come up apon the new install, But i had a new problem i get a general error at around 75-85%,
    of the install.e
so now i have no flash player, i read the forums there is another thread that links,  install_flash_player_osx-.dmg
some people saying that this works for OS 10.9.4, so i tried this option but now the file does not pass the download stage of the install at around 20%.
and the same old General error comes up again leaving me stuck, i am a stay at home dad that builds websites and i need Flash Player.
any help would be greatly welcomed.

    @Kiwisox
Thank you for providing the files.  I didn't get a chance to look at them yesterday, but will do so today.
    @Odawg76,
Please start a new thread with your issue, as it appears to be different from Kiwisox.  It is also difficult to respond to various users in the same thread and keep responses relevant to each individual as the forums software doesn't nest responses to individual users, but lists everything chronologically.  Please follow the guidelines here, Read Before Posting: How To Get A Useful Answer To Your Question, when creating your new thread. I've actually not seen the "Safari can't connect to server" returned by the Flash Player installer.  Please include a screenshot of the error.  Instructions available here, How to post a screenshot in the forum.  Thank you.
    @nikondvr
You're issue appears to be different from Kiwisox.  On Mac, simply closing an application window does not quit the application.  You need to actually terminate Safari for Flash Player installation to proceed.
There are a few different ways to Quit Safari:
Quit Safari app from the Dock icon:
Mouse over the Safari icon in the Dock
Press CTRL and left-mouse click at the same time
A menu will display. Click Quit to terminate the application.
Use Activity Monitor to terminate Safari:
Launch Activity Monitor from Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor
Ensure 'All Processes' are being listed (menu in the upper right)
    Find and select Safari
Click the Quit Process button (upper left)

  • Adobe Flash Player 11.8.800.94 will not install in Mac

I am trying to install Adobe Flash Player 11.8.800.94 into my MacBook OS 10.8.4 but everytime ot gets to 50% I get an error message saying Please quit the follwong programs to continue. Safari. et my Safari is closed. I have tried closing via CMD+Q and tried to install via Finder when I haven't even opended Safari at all. It is starting to get very annoying

Thank you, CF. I can't find my original post re this problem, but the "clean install" finally worked.Thank you so much and everyone else who chimed it. This is the way to go. However, I had to do it 4 times before it finally worked. So my advice is print out the instructions and folow them to the letter. Don't be discouraged if they don't work immediately. Go through the whole thing again and again if you need to. It WILL work.

  • Xcode 3.2.6 Will Not Install On Mac OSX 10.6.8

I am unable to install Xcode 3.2.6 on OSX 10.6.8, despite the fact that Apple's own documentation claims this will work. I am receiving an "unknown error". While this useless information leads me nowhere and provides no details about what went wrong, it does tell me that the error is fairly normal and lots of people will experience it (since that's how garbage companies do business). This is why no good explaination is offered as to why the error occured, so that Apple can rake in support and upgrade money. I get it, it's a scumbag tactic by a scumbag company, and that's fine, everyone does it. However, I am not satisfied with this as a final answer.
I have 14GB of free space on my Macbook, which is enough for the 10.26GB that Xcode 3.2.6 requires. Please, don't bother telling me I should "free more space", if my computer does not function correctly just because the harddrive is getting full, I will be suing for breach of contract, among other things. Looking into that matter now, in fact. It's interesting that the company provides such useless "free" software, and then later can make it non-functioning.
I am not willing to re-download the file (took hours on Apple's horrible connection) nor am I willing to upgrade to Snow Leopard, because it's a functionless money-grab and I am not willing to buy into it. This should not be necessary, since Xcode 3.2.6 is supposed to work on 10.6.8.
Can someone please point me to either a fix for this issue or a functioning version of the software? I'd prefer the latter, but if someone knows where an actual working copy of the software is, I'll take that too.
    Thanks,
    A disillusioned Mac user.

Yes I've read every one of them, none of them provide solutions whatsoever, I have spent about ten hours on this site in the past two days to no avail, none of the "resolved" threads provided any sort of solution for me, I have tried everything suggested on this website so far, multiple times, to no avail.

  • Adobe Reader will not install to my IMac OSX 100.7.5

When I have a program open and want to download a PDF file that is when I get message to install Adobe Reader in order to print the PDF, when I try to download the Reader it either goes through the install action and says it is downloaded or it tells me the Adobe Reader is already installed.  Message doesn't matter because it is not downloaded and installed.  The only thing I find in my Finder download section is the Adobe Reader install download.  I have tried this so many times.  When I first got my Mac I downloaded the Adobe Flash Player with no problem.  Any suggestions?

    Ok. Thanks Mike.
It would be nice if Adobe published the correct information then.
The Flash Player page specifically shows 12.0.0.4 for Safari, FireFox and Opera. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Correct info would have prevented a pointless waste of time. The other Flash Player test page also reports the wrong information when viewing via Safari and FF.

  • 10.10.2 will not install - tried Mac App Store and Delta updater

I'm trying to install the 10.10.2 update on a 15" MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) which currently has 10.10.1 on it and its not going well!
The Mac App Store shows the 10.10.2 update, I click Update and dropdown says "Some updates need to finish downloading before they are installed. Your computer will restart to complete the updates." with the options "Not Now" and "Download & Restart". Doesn't matter which one I choose, after a click the update progress bar appears for a few seconds and then reverts back to displaying the Update button again. Have restarted, fixed permissions etc and it makes no difference.
So I downloaded the Delta update (not the combo) and go through the install steps and the system restarts to compete the installation, but the system simple restarts and does not update to 10.10.2, its still at 10.10.1. Have tried a few times, always the same.
One slightly odd issue is that the Apple remote Desktop update 3.8.2 appears to have been installed 5 times in the "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days" section of the Mac App Store and yet it also still appears in the updates available section below the 10.10.2 update.
I've repaired permissions, restarted, checked Activity Monitor for any non responding services and checked disk space availability - 170GB available. Can't see anything obvious.
Anyone else having trouble installing this OS update?
    Thanks

I have the exact same problem. Tried to install the normal and combo update. Nothing happens.
I tried the repair permissions and even the reset password method. Nothing.
Did the system restore help ? did you try to re-install yosemite first keeping your files and applications ?
    It's really weird.
    Thanks

  • Cs2 Illustrator education version will not install on mac

I installed the education version of CS2. Illustrator and InDesign won't install. Photoshop, GoLive, Bridge, Acrobat and Version Cue install fine.  I completely uninstalled CS2 and re-installed it.  In the dialogue box that asks if you want to install the entire suite or selected components, I can't select entire suite and if I click Selected Components, Illustrator and InDesign are greyed out and not selectable.
Anyone have a good idea why this is happening?
    Thanks

It will. You can't install CS2 after installing CS3 or 4. Doesn't work. Uninstall the CS4 and dump all files, esp shared libs. You may have to use the CS4 Clean Script to remove all the associated parts.

I just tried to install Shockwave player, after updating to OSX Lion.  The install program says it's incompatible with this OS.  You can continue the install anyway, but the software won't run in any browser I tried (Chrome/Safari).  I looked on the Adobe site, and known problems are listed for every Adobe software but Shockwave.  Anyone else have this problem?  Should Adobe add Shockwave to the list of possible conflicts with OCX Lion?

Install the 64-bit version and it should work. For me it was not the default download on the Shockwave player download page.
