Safari 3.1 Spell Check: Anyone seeing these?

Since I upgraded Safari to 3.1 on my G4 MDD (10.4.11), I'm seeing a couple of spell check anomalies I've not encountered with previous versions. These are nearly all when using Apple Discussions:
1) In a single text input window, some misspelled words are underlined and others not. The ones not underlined are not strange words but ones whose common misspellings should reasonably be detected.
2) After closing Safari, I occasionally find text clippings of some of the misspelled words I corrected on the Desktop.
Has anyone else found this with AD and Safari 3.1?
Allan

I am beyond furious at Apple lately. Safari is SO slow I thought I had spyware or that my computer was dying, but as it turns out in reading this thread, it is yet another software screw up!
It simply stalls and stalls and stalls. Even hitting the back button stalls.
I really miss the days of my 17 inch 1.33 GHZ Power PC that actually went to sleep RIGHT AWAY when I closed the lid and everything worked.
I'm sorry but as a long time Mac user, this laptop and ALL it's bugs, the new 10.5 OS and now Safari simply not working, Well this is the least impressed I have ever been with Apple products and I have used them professionally for decades.
Lets get this fixed gents and FAAAAST!
And lets get that next rev of the MacBook Pro out so I can get rid of this lemon.
Thank you SO much!

  • Safari 5.1 spell check- ignore button kicks out of e-mail

Using Safari 5.1. When I use spell check and use the ignore button it logs me out. I use
Office Outlook Web Acces for company e-mails. Also while writting this question tried using
spell check and click ignore button, it also kick me from the discussion group. Went back to using
5.0.3 and works fine. Some one at Apple needs to fix the many spell check problems......

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • Anyone seeing these issues with 7.5.102.0?

Since upgrading from 7.3 to 7.5.102.0 we are seeing the following issues and wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same.
Wireless clients will show connected and associated to the WLC and have an IP address but are unable to ping out or connect to anything. If you do a show client detail I see the device has an IP address, but both the gateway and subnet mask are set to UNKNOWN. Until I kick the user off the network and force a reauthentication, it won't reconnect.
On our public WiFi network, Android phones won't get the redirect page on Google Chrome. If you use IE it works everytime.
    Thank you.

This is a known bug in 7.5.102.0 release. CSCui87814 . It is fixed in upcoming 7.6.x release (expect in Dec 2013)
There is a workaround for this. You have to do the following configuration to get this working. It is required to reboot after this configuration
config network secureweb cipher-option rc4-preference enable
"Chrome 29 adds TLS 1.2 support, and WLC is selecting a crypto suite over TLS 1.0 that apparently is breaking client"
you can find the more detail in this post.

  • How to troubleshoot issues that Spell Check is not working in Outlook 2013

When composing a new message in Outlook 2013, we may notice that Spell Checker does not recognize misspelled words. When we enter a completely garbage word in Outlook, it won’t be marked as misspelled with a red wave underline. When encountering such issue,
we may follow the troubleshooting guide below to correct it.
    1. Make sure you are not typing in the signature area.
Outlook doesn't perform a spell check in the signature area, so if this is the case, spell check won’t work. To confirm if you are typing in the signature area, right click in the area you are typing, if you see a menu listed all you signatures instead of
the normal context menu, then you are not typing in the email body.
If you want spell check work in signature area, use Quick Parts instead of Signature. For more information, see
    Quick Parts.
    2. Check the Set Proofing Language option.
In Outlook, click New Email to open a new message, click
REVIEW tab > Language > Set Proofing Language, a dialog titled
    Language will open.
Please first make sure English (United States) is shown above the double line. If not,
you must enable the language for it to be available to check spelling.
Second, make sure “Do not check spelling or grammar” check box is not selected.
Note: If this method fixes the problem, repeat steps 1 through 3 to reopen to the
Language dialog box, and then click Set As Default.
    3. Enable Check spelling as you type.
To enable the option in Outlook, go to File > Options > Mail, click Spelling and Autocorrect button. In the Editor Options dialog, select the check box labelled “Check spelling as you type”.
    4. Make sure that you are not using a standalone version of Outlook or mixed versions of Word and Outlook.
The “Check spelling as you type” feature doesn’t work when using a standalone installation of Outlook or mixed versions of Word and Outlook. However, the manual spell check always works. In this scenario, we can set Outlook to
always check spelling before sending. To do this, go to File > Options > Mail, select the check box before “Always check spelling before sending” in the Compose message section.
    5. A registry key exists overriding the spell checker
To remove the registry key, please follow these:
Important This article contains information about how to modify the registry. Make sure that you
back up the registry before you modify it.
    a. Press Windows key + R to open the Run command.
    b. In the Run box, type regedit, and then press Enter.
    c. Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools\1.0\Override
    d. Delete or rename the subkey.
    e. Exit Registry Editor. Restart Outlook.
    6. Recreate the NormalEmail.dotm and Normal.dotm template
If the two templates above are corrupt, this issue may also happen. To fix it, please browse to:
    drive:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
Rename the two templates, then restart Outlook to see the result.
    7. Problematic add-in
Add-ins may cause various issues in Outlook, so if you have tried all the suggestions and still no luck, try starting Outlook in safe mode to see if a problematic add-in is the culprit. To do this, exit Outlook, press Windows key + R to open the Run
command, then type outlook /safe and press Enter. If the problem disappeared in safe mode, then go to File > Options > Add-ins and disable the suspicious add-in to resolve the problem.

Flashback - Detect and remove the uprising Mac OS X Trojan...
    http://www.mac-and-i.net/2012/04/flashback-detect-and-remove-uprising.html
In order to avoid detection, the installer will first look for the presence of some antivirus tools and other utilities that might be present on a power user's system, which according to F-Secure include the following:
    /Library/Little Snitch
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
    /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.app
    /Applications/iAntiVirus/iAntiVirus.app
    /Applications/avast!.app
    /Applications/ClamXav.app
    /Applications/HTTPScoop.app
    /Applications/Packet Peeper.app
If these tools are found, then the malware deletes itself in an attempt to prevent detection by those who have the means and capability to do so. Many malware programs use this behavior, as was seen in others such as the Tsunami malware bot.

  • Spell Checker on Safari 2.0.4

is there a way to get spell-checker on it?
I checked the preferences... but nothing.
    any suggestions?

Spell Checker feature is still on "Coming Soon" list. Check a page: http://apple.com/safari/download/ You should wait for future version of Safari with these improvements

  • Safari has major problems with spell checker

In Lion, the spell checker no longer works.
Not only does it not flag words, but more importantly, if you try to use it and hit a word you want it to ignore, and click ignore...
It trashes whatever you are writing ini the Safari window, and takes you back to the page where you were starting the reply from.
This happens here on the Support community board and on numerous other Vbulletin powered boards (in particular).

This was a frequent topic when iWork '08 was first released. It is related to third-party spell checkers such as SpellCatcher. If they haven't been updated to the newest versions, this error comes up, especially when opening Word documents.
If you have SpellCatcher or another spell checker installed, I would just try disabling it first & see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't, do a Spotlight search for "spell" & see what comes up. Trash anything that looks like it belongs to a third-party spell checker & restart your Mac.

  • Automatically spell check these "submit my question to the cmmunity"

Automatically spell check these the questions to the community like Google does.  Google provides alternative searches when you misspell a word in the search.  Would seem reasonable for Apple too.
This cam to my attention when I accidentally misspelled community in my prior post about Mac OS X Technologies.
    Robert

If by the 'normal' spell checker you mean the one built into OS X, you can use it in the regular (non-html) editor modes. First, make sure it is turned on in the browser app's Edit menu > Spelling and Grammar > "Check Spelling While Typing" menu item. That will underline potential misspellings in red, just like for other apps that support system-wide text services.
It's not working for me. I have the spell checker turned on in TenFourFox 4.0.1.  This is a ported version of Firefox 4.x.  Interesting enough I got spell checking turned on by control click > check spelling. I see that check spelling is now checked in the control click box. Now, I have html & TenFourFox underlined in red dots.
Do you get the underlining to work in other browser without this maneuver?
The trick is you can't access the OS X popup contextual menu with a right click on the underlined word because that brings up the ASC insert/align menu. But you can do it with a control click. This is because of a quirk of the software running the site, which is neither developed by Apple nor platform specific.
There is a way of injecting javascript into a page.  I bet you could zap away the forum right click via the injected javascript.

  • Spell check no longer works in Safari after iOS5 update

After updating to iOS5 on my iPad2 yesterday, the spell check feature no longer works in Safari when using the Apple Wireless Keyboard.  It works in all the other applications I've tried, such as Pages and Mail.  It's a real bummer, especially if writing a blog.  Any help or suggestions?  Spell check worked fine before the update.  (Spell check still works in Safari with the on-screen keyboard, just not with the Apple Wireless Keyboard - Safari seems to be the only application effected so far)  Thank you.

Update: After rebooting my macbook - Moves now playing. TV shows bought using a different apple ID account still does not work even though they did before.
