Safari 3 no longer preserves login/password info
Safari 3 that came with OS 10.4.11 no longer maintains login/password info for ANY page, including Home Page.
Troubleshooting I tried (which have failed to fix problem) include:
1. Fixing Permissions.
2. Deleting System and User caches with AppleJack.
3. Reseting Safari.
4. Deleting cookies.
5. Deleting Safari.plist.
6. Deleting apple.internetconfig.plist.
7. Reinstalling OS 10.4.11 with combo updater.
8. Copying backup copy of Safari 3 from my backup clone of system on external drive.
9. Keychain First Aid found no problems.
Note that this problem is on my iMac Intel (late 2006). Safari is fine on Powerbook G4 and on external clone of system.
Login/Password info works fine on Firefox & Omniweb.

Actually, I fixed it myself. Always blocking cookies was the problem. Evidently, you can't do that and still be able to log on to websites. Thanks, self!

Using Yosemite, I an't seem to work for more than a few minutes without being asked for my login password. Keychain wants it, Safari wants it, iCloud wants it..the list goes on. Then in 10 minutes or so, they all want it again. Passwords are being stored by Safari as usual, but new tabs or pages bring up the request. How can I turn this off and still have protection?
Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
3. Click the "First Aid" tab
4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
5. Close the Preferences window
6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
7. Enter your username and password
8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
"New Keychain"
7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com. -
Safari Won't Remember Login + Passwords
Safari just won't remember login names and passwords for sites! Even though I fill in the info and check the box that asks to remember, it does not.
BTW, it works fine on my main user setup, but not on a secondary user.
I have deleted the Safari .plist preference files, the keychain access .plist files and deleted files within the Keychain Access application and restarted the machine. Problem still exists.
Can anyone help?
FrankI am curious about this, too.
Before I delete any of the suggested files, will I have to re-enter my log in names and passwords?
Usually when Safari has a memory lapse, it doesn't recall both log in name and password. When I attempted to log in to this forum today, Safari remembered my log in name, but not my password. Is there an option for Safari or keychain to remember only log in names, but not passwords?
Safari will usually prompt me to add log in name and password the first time I create it for a new site, but not always. It didn't do this when I re-entered it today, but after I logged out, it allowed me to log back in without requesting log in or password.
Thanks in advance for any info on this.

How do I force Safari to remember site logins/passwords?
Hi.
I'm using a new Mini running Mountain Lion and Safari 6.0.5. I installed the computer fresh, rather than migrating from my old computer (2007 Mini), as I was dragging a lot of dead weight in settings, preferences, and cache. Safari DID acquire my bookmarks from the cloud on first use.
I am frustrated that some of my registered websites/passwords have not been saved; they are not listed in the preferences. Is there any way to force Safari to store the sites? Is it possible to migrate ONLY those settings from my old computer?Just in case there any outdated keychains ..
Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of the sites you want Safari to remember passwords for then delete the current keychain for each one.
Back to Safari. Navigate to a site you deleted the old keychain for.
Login with your username and password. Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
To make sure Safari syncs Bookmarks with iCloud, open System Preferences > iCloud
Make sure Safari is selected. -
Safari not 'remembering' webpages login/passwords
I am running Safari 4.0.4. On certain websites(Facebook & My Space among some) it will not remember the login info or show a box to remember it.
How do I get that to happen ?I'm having the same or similar problem.
I have no idea what's causing it. It seems to have started after backing up my computer, for the first time, on a new external HD using the HD's included auto-back-up software (a 1tb My Book with "SmartWare" software, from Western Digital). There were other bugs which cropped up at the same time. SmartWare kept thinking it was being run for the first time, and Google Notifier kept forgetting my login information.
The problem with Google Notifier seems to have fixed itself, and I uninstalled SmartWare. The only problem left is with Safari. -
DW CS3 Repeatedly Loses FTP Login & Password Info
Greetings -
This has happened more than once, and I can't pinpoint anything else happening at the time that might cause it. Sometime during my work today, while DWCS3 was opened, all the FTP logins and passwords dropped out!
This install has only been on my new computer about a month, and all the updates were done, and no more are available. I saw many posts about old Dreamweaver 8 having this issue and a fix link given, but I don't see any complaints about this problem in any later versions, including CS3.
In lieu of a fix, I wonder what the most efficient way to put them back in is - since I have a couple of dozen on different servers with varying logins and pw's? I tried importing a backed up definition but discovered it won't overwrite but instead creates a 'version2'.
Thank you from Catherine. You lost me.
I'm talking about the login and passwords in the Manage Sites section where we define our dreamweaver sites for FTP'ing to the server. -
IOS8 / Safari not auto filling alternate account info and password
Hello,
since upgrading to iOS8 on my iPad4, Safari no longer auto fills alternate account / password info on same website. 'Settings' shows that I have multiple login/pass infos available for the same site.
PReviously, I could initiate the first couple letters of the account name, and the option to have Safari auto populate the rest of the info would be available.I should also mention I am not in private mode.

Safari and Mail no longer remember my passwords
Safari and Mail no longer remember my passwords. Worked yesterday. Recently updated to 10.5.1 and added Text Expander and PTHPasteboard. Turned them both off. Rebooted. Running 10.5.1 on Intel Pro Mac. Ran First Aid on Keychain Access and says its ok. The login Keychain is unlocked.
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.<br />
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.

Why is Safari no longer auto-filling in passwords?
Up until this morning, Safari and Keychain were working and would auto-fill in passwords to various websites. I changed no preferences, deleted no keychain items, nor made any changes to the security settings, but now Safari refuses to fill in passwords. I also can't find these passwords in the Keychain Access; if I *change* the password, Safari asks if I would like to change the stored password. If I say 'yes', there is still no password recorded in the Keychain. If I try to make a new account on a website with a new password, Safari pops up with its usual suggested password; if I select it and move forward, I can not find this stored password anywhere (either Keychain or Safari). ***? I should just use 1Pass and Chrome.
The only weird thing that happened was I was trying to select between two different accounts/passwords on a website; it gave the usual beige/yellow selection box for selecting which stored password/acct to use, then it just went away before I could select something. After that, the above behavior started.Back up all data. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm—the data will remain on the servers. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.

When I attempt to log into a site that requires login / password data, the pop-up menu bar that would ask whether to save this password data or not momentarily displays then disappears befor I can tick my choice.
I tried re-installing Firefox but that didn't change the situation.
Please help as I can't log into a local server any more that requires login / password credentials.I restarted the computer and checked what errors it was returning, these are all the errors i got.

Safari no longer connects to the internet
I upgraded to OS Yosemite in my iMac (must be approaching 4 years old) and everything has been working fine. Had a couple of applications where they closed unexpectedly, but nothing major and things have continued as they always have. Apps have also automatically updated. As of today, Safari will no longer connect to the internet and I keep getting the classic "the server unexpectedly dropped the connection" blurb and I kept being told that a disk that I hadn't put in the machine is not being recognized.
I'm typing this on my MacBook Air so I know that Safari can work fine (also having no problem with my iPad or iPhone) and there is no issue with my ISP' modem (I'm with Virgin Media), connector or Netgear wireless router. Tonight I have performed a recovery install and now I have this annoying message saying how I need a particular Java plugin, which I can't sort out because Safari can't connect to the internet. I have also performed a router reset, without remedy.
Logically, as I see it, the issue lies with Safari, and due to it being the only internet access on my iMac, I can't even download Firefox or access the App Store so looks like I can't update. A friend is also having the same issues with his iPad, so I know this isn't just my iMac
Looking for some answers here? Anyone?
ThanksPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -
