Safari 4.0.2 + OS X 10.5.8 + YouTube vids in HD = not working! :(

I just updated today to 10.5.8 and have been experiencing strange issues viewing videos in HD on YouTube on the Safari browser.
At first I thought this was a glitch in YT itself - perhaps the usual site maintenance. Not the case.
I was annoyed seeing that when I clicked the "HD" button on some videos I have uploaded myself, the quality would look worse, and not better. Not only that, the "HD" button doesn't even exists, but rather shows "HQ" instead.
This was very confusing, so I went and opened FireFox to see what it looks like on there and to my surprise, everything works perfectly. The HD videos I have on my page work and play fine in FF, and play in the proper HD quality.
I can't pinpoint the exact problem, but I think it may be an issue with the newly released OS X update and possibly also the new 4.0.2 version of Safari that came with it. I haven't made any other mods to my computer, nor installed any new software. But seeing that it worked fine on FireFox but not fine on Safari leads me to believe that it's something to do with the 4.0.2 Safari update, or a combination of the OS X and Safari updates combined. shrug
Is anyone else noticing this problem with YT videos in HD after the update? I can't even get the videos to play in HQ on Safari when pressing the "HQ" button. And I actually noticed videos playing in better quality when played in "Normal" quality.
So strange.

I downloaded from Safari Extension Gallery "awesome Screenshot" couple of days ago and then decided to remove it from the system . Since then the awesome icon does not appear But my Safari is suffering as it is not loading the pages.Please help

Try removing any other extensions and plugins and if that works introduce them one at a time, you may find it is one of those causing the problem.
If that does not work create a new post, this one being closed will gather less interest and someone who as an answer could miss it.

Reinstall Safari 5.1.10 for OS X 10.6.8: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1569. Might do the trick.
But, frankly, I don't think that simply reinstalling the old Safari will work because of all the peripheral, under the hood changes that happen when you upgrade from one version of Safari to another. Reinstalling 5.1.10 may be insufficient to turn back the clock. (This is the moment where a Time Machine or another form of full backup would save your bacon.)
While you're getting a copy of Safari 5.1.10, get a copy of Firefox (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/desktop/), too, so that you have an alternate browser to use as you're sorting matters.

Hi,
First you should try some basic troubleshooting methods.
Open 'Disk Utility' which you will find in Applications/Utilities - select your drive in the left column, and then select 'Repair Permissions'. When it's done repairing, restart your computer.
If that doesn't fix the issue, then locate 'com.apple.safari.plist' which you will find in Home/Library/Preferences - and move it to your desktop. restart your computer, open Safari, and a new preference file will be created. If this works then move the 'com.apple.safari.plist' file on your desktop to the trash.

YouTube Videos not working in Safari on iPad 2

When I use YouTube in Safari on my iPad 2, I noticed that the official music videos are not working in YouTube. I get an error message which states "Video cannot be played on mobile." Below is a link to the all time most watched videos. Not music videos (Video # 5) play fine on my iPad but the official music videos (Videos 1 - 4) do not.

These videos are restricted and can not be played on a mobile device... These videos have come up before in this forum. The record companies have placed a flag on these video so they can't be played on a mobile device. If you look at the URL for the video you will notice it is a mobile web page... http://m.YouTube...
Anyone can place this flag in their video on YouTube. The flag can be set in the settings/edit for each video.
If you have flash on your mobile device and don't go to the mobile web page you can play the video.

Mr. Jobs, who for some reason can't get an Apple employee avatar (seems strange doesn't it?) is correct that there is no Flash plugin for the iPhone/Touch. Apple did not want to use Flash lite for the the iPhone, which has a full browser, and according to the CEO for Adobe they underestimated the difficulty level in creating a version for the iPhone/Touch. He did say the "ball is in their court", and that Apple (that has had previous battles with Adobe) did have engineers working to help them.
Of course now that the CEO of Apple is calling their code "hideous" the cooperation may end.

So you launch Safari and what? Provide a link to the google site that's not working for you. Update to the latest version of Flash Player. Make sure it's on in System Preferences>Flash Player.

I do not know if it's relevant or not, but I got a message on my ipad while on safari saying that my iPhone has a virus. I looked it up and it seems it might have just been an ad from the website I was on, but it happened around the same time YouTube stopped working.

You will find that using the YouTube app will provide a better viewing experience for YouTube videos.

IPad air safari not working in iOS 8.1

I have an iPhone 5, 5S and ipad air all on version 8.1. Safari is not working on any of them. It tries to load, the blank safari screen comes up, then it crashes and goes back to home screen. I have to use google chrome to access the internet. I tried restoring my one phone to factory, installed the backup, reset the safari data, reset network settings and still no help. Can anyone tell me how the **** to delete safari and re-install it? I don't know what else to do about this issue.

Safari 8 hover does not work over google map location pins

I have always had little odd things not work when using safari on a large % of websites I visit, the latest issues are
no response when hovering over google map location pins, travel site calendars not opening or responding to mouse, drag and drop
show the item being dragged several inches away from the actual pointer, some links don't respond, missing items
or odd layout with print or pop ups going off the screen on some website pages, zooming in and out does not help. I have none
of these issues when using Firefox or Chrome. Been using Safari for 4 years now.

Have you tried a PRAM and an SMC reset? They're longshots, but don't take long to try.

Have you run Apple Diagnostics from the disc(s) that shipped with the computer?
Since the problem occurs in all browsers, it still sounds like a video hardware or video RAM or maybe a software issue having to do with layers and rendering.
The map layers aren't getting rendered, or if rendered, aren't getting displayed.
Do you have any browser add-ins? Pop-up blockers?
Since you have two video chipsets, it's possible that might be related to the issue.
This non-Apple website talks about switching between chipsets on the various MacBook models so equipped, and points to a free 'donationware' program for the menubar that lets you easily switch between chipsets:

Trying to think of other software that might help pinpoint the problem, does the iPhoto Slideshow 'Shatter' template work? Working properly, it 'shatters' images into several color layers and rotates them in and out to build and deconstruct photos.

Safari not working with Yosemite- incompatible with google search too

Ever since I upgraded my macbook pro, Safari has been slow. In the past 2 days, it's more than slow - it's impossible. I am able to get to pages I have bookmarked or get to links in email documents - but every time I try to do a search using the search bar in Safari, it hangs. Sometimes I get a list of possible websites (after a few minutes) but if I click on any of those, Safari just hangs there and won't go. I even had to use Chrome in order to generate this question in the discussion groups. Does anyone have any suggestions other than using an alternate browser. Is it possible that google and Safari on Yosemite are incompatible? I did try using the "Develop" menubar option and chose DuckDuckgo as the search tool and it worked a bit better.
This is now the 2nd big issue I've had with Yosemite -- it totally would not work with my Adobe Photoshop Elements program -- I spent hours on the Adobe forums and discovered that 100s of others were also having issues. It turned out to be a problem with Yosemite and the trackpad. Adobe finally came up with a temporary plugin that allows Elements (and other Adobe programs) to run.
Suggesions on Safari other than ditching it and using Chrome?

Try a Safari reset.
Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site.
