Safari 4.0.3 and Google

I just updated to 10.5.8 and Safari 4.0.3 (or whatever it is, the latest one). Every time I try to access Google with Safari, Safari crashes. I tested with another browser (Camino) and it's working fine. So, in some way it does have to do with Safari. Note also that - while I have not done extensive testing - it seems that Safari works well if I am staying away from Google. But after a Google-related crash I need to clear the cache to have Safari working again (on non google sites).
What is going on? Anybody knows about a fix?
Thanks

It's not just google. Tried to access the ATP web site and got the same problem.
Here's what I get from console. It may have to do with Java. Incidentally, I also updated Java today. I had updated it a while ago, but then reverted to the previous version (which is less safe) because it would crash GrowlMail on my machine.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

  • OSX 10.3.9, Safari 1.3.2 and Google

I am using Mac OSX 10.3.9 with its Safari 1.3.2 and am running into trouble with doing Google searches. When I do a Google search, Safari Closes. Is anyone else using this setup experiencing this problem? Is anyone using this setup and not experiencing this problem? The system specifics are:
    450MHz PowerPC G-4/ 640MB RAM. Thanks

Yep.  With Java Scripts back on, Google itself will load up and work...on Safari 1.3.2 and on Firefox 2.0.0.20., The web tells me that Firefox is as current as I can go with 10.3.
But Google mail still drops to HTML format and Google.doc does Not work at all.  So I'm a little ahead, but the grandson uses G..Docs often in school now, so I'm going to get Tiger loaded tomorrow.  I don't think it'll work and I'll talk to the tech about maybe Leopard.  And if Tiger seems ok, the web tells me I can step Firefox up to 3.5.19., or 8.0 for Leopard.  Yahoo mail seems to work normally right now.
    But I know I can't put 10.6 or 10.7 on this machine.
BTY this is a PowerPC iBook G4 and not with the Intel processor...and that may be the stumbling point
(also 1.25 ram and 1.33 processor)
The Old Mac apps site: http://mac.oldapps.com/firefox.php?system=mac_os_x_10.3_panther  is a lot of help for selection of Firefox versions.
Thanks for the thought and please fell free to toss any ideas my way.

    any solutions?

    thanks.

    Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
    Notes:
    1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click  Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
    2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

  • Safari and Google Maps are useless

Safari and Google Maps invariably quit and return to the home screen. They are essentially useless. I tried to empty the cache and history...no luck. I then tried a reset and when it restarted got a message to please connect to iTunes. iTunes told me my phone needed to be restored. A progress bar indicated it was extracting some software and then it was preparing the iPhone for restoration. After some time I got an unknown error message (1603) that said it was unable to restore. I am looking at it as it sits uselessly in the dock with nothing but the apple icon showing. Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone have a solution? Should I just return it to the Apple Store.

James, I'm sorry to say buddy, but you might just have a defective product. If restoring doesn't work there really isn't much more you could do. You can ether wait for the next update, and hope that would fix it, or just take it back to the store and exchange it. You have 30 days from the day of purchase to return the item. Thats my recommendation. GL

  • Safari and google plus site issues.

Safari and google plus crashes when I go to the google plus website, but it works with my other browser apps. Help? I am using the mac retina display.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Safari and Google Chrome running slow on my MacBook

    Hi there!
Over the last couple of weeks Safari (and Google Chrome) have started running very, very slow on my MacBook(I own a MacBook white, OS X version 10.6.8). I didn't install anything new over the last few months, so I don't think that is the problem. My Wi-Fi has been checked and that's not the problem either. Also, I emptied my cache and reset Safari, yet nothing seems to help.. Sometimes I even have to Force Quit Safari because it just stops working all of a sudden and it blocks my whole computer for over a minute. Anyone out there that can help me?

    Except for Facebook?
    Try the following:
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • I can't sign into my Youtube account on Firefox, but it works fine on Safari and Google Chrome. Deleting my web history, cookies, and etc didn't help. PLZ HELP!

I click on sign in on Youtube.com and it takes me to the sign in page. I enter my information (correctly, duh) and then I am returned to the Youtube home page. I try to click Sign in again and the page is just refreshed. My account still exists bc I can reach it on Safari and Google Chrome, but I don't want to have to switch browsers. By the way the cookies ARE enabled, so Idk what the problem is.

hello, please also make sure that in particular youtube.com & accounts.google.com are allowed to set cookies (at least for the session)...

  • Safari Cookies and Google

    Hi!
I'm having problems signing in to my Gmail and Blogger account, when I try to log in I get this error: "Oops! Your browser seems to have cookies disabled. Make sure cookies are enabled or try opening a new browser window. " This is fairly recent, has only been happening for a month or so. And I have checked my cookies in Preferences, they are enabled. I have cleared cookies and cache and nothing has changed.
    Safari version: 5.0.2
    Mac Os X version: 10.6.6
Could anyone help with ideas of how to fix this? Thank you!

Go to Safari > Preferences > Privacy then click Details.
Type Google in the search field top right corner of that window then click Remove or Remove All.
    Ditto for Blogger.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, go to ~/Library/Cookies. Move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try Gmail and Blogger again.

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. Might also apply to new machines w/o AppleCare.

  • My MacBook Pro won't load any websites on Safari (except this site, Facebook and Google), Opera, or Mozilla Firefox. I already did the "Reset Safari", restarted the computer half a dozen times, and I can't find this alleged "caches.db" file to delete.

My MacBook Pro won't load any websites on Safari (except this site, Facebook and Google). Opera and Mozilla Firefox won't load any sites whatsoever. I already did the "Reset Safari" several times, restarted the computer half a dozen times, and I can't find this alleged "caches.db" file to delete. I virus scanned the computer with Sophos, Avast, and iAntiVirus and it looks clean.

Is iAntiVirus the best virus protection to use for a MacBook?
The best anti-virus protection is your own common sense, and what you already bought and paid for with your Mac. Third party products such as "iAntiVirus" convey no additional benefit, and as you already determined are very capable of causing trouble.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Are there any browsers for Mac other than Safari and Google Chrome that are better with adobe flash for my Macbook 2009?

On Safari Adobe Flash freezes at times on popular Flash chatroom I visit and on Google Chrome when I try to type the typing is laggy delayed. Adobe Flash needs to be fixed in Safari and possibly other Browsers, and Google Chromes html5 or whatever flash replacement their browser uses ***** on older hardware.

Go for Safari always, you will have more advantages than any other browser. You can safely install the Adobe Flash pluguin, it will install as pref pane in your System Preferences. From there you can limit its access, block sites for storing info in your mac.
Under the advanced tab of the Flash Player in System Preferences, check “Notify me to install updates”, so you are always up to date (feel free to check out any update directly form the Adobe website to be safe).
Steve does't want to allow Flash for iOS due to security issues (long story). But it's OK for mac, if you keep an eye on it.
Google's Chrome its decent, but you know, it's Google. I will prefer to take the advantage of the Apple's ecosystem, like syncing all Safari content and passwords with iCloud, to keep using it in your iOS devices. You can have an open page in your mac, and go to your iPad and continue with the same page.
Also you can find some useful Safari extensions that will trick the websites to load an HTML5 version of the video instead of flash (like if you were on an iPad).
