Safari 4.0.3 CANNOT customize toolbar !?
Hello,
On my new iMac 24inches I cannot have Safari keep the changes I do in the toolbar : as soon as I quit the application, changes are lost !?
I tried (per another post) to check the "input managers" folder in Library but cannot delete anything from there : the system refuses to do so.
I have there one folder "crash reports" and one from 1Password (a third party application for password managing in browsers).
I cannot change nothing there and the toolbar customisation is not kept when I leave Safari.
On my other new MB AIR, everything works fine but I donot have this "input manager" folder in my library.
Can someone help me please ?
Thanks
Hi,
Delete 1Password. Users are reporting incompatibility issues with Safari 4.0.3.
If that doesn't help, to go Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab then
delete this file.
com.apple.Safari.plist
~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.

Cannot customize toolbar.
On my iMac, when I make changes to Safari's toolbar via View>Customize Toolbar, any changes I make are not retained after Safari quits. Upon relaunch of Safari the customized toolbar is viewable for about 1 second, then it suddenly reverts to the default view. So obviously, the changes to the toolbar are being saved, but then overwritten a few moments after Safari launches.
Has anyone else seen this behavior or have any troubleshooting tips?

Message was edited by: jjs1138Between my last reply and and sitspotsit's suggestion, it occurred to me that I had specified that my iMac was affected, but in fact I had not checked my Air for this issue. I tried to customize the toolbar on the Air and found that I had the same problem there. The most obvious common link between the iMac and the Air is that they both have the Evernote plugin installed.
I disabled the plugin and found the normal Safari behavior returned. I was about to settle on the fact that I was going to have to leave the Evernote plugin disabled, but then I read sitspotsit reply.
Just on a whim, I installed the Evernote plugin again, the problems returned. I then deleted the Safari pref file with the Evernote plugin still installed. Upon launching Safari again I found that Safari now functions correctly as well does Evernote.
It seems that while installing, the Evernote plugin corrupts the Safari pref file, but if you delete the pref file after install of the Evernote plugin, the new pre file is corruption free.
I hope this info may be of use to other users. And thanks to sitspotsit for setting me on the right path.

Cannot customize toolbars by dragging/dropping buttons
I enable the Customization mode by clicking on "Customize..." in the right-click popup menu of a toolbar. Firefox enters the customization mode just fine. I can grip any existing toolbar button (the cursor changes to the hand wnen I am over it), then I can drag this button... Oops! The only place I can drop it is exactly its old position! Elsewhere, the cursor changes to that crossed ring that means no. Cannot drag buttons between toolbars, cannot pick up buttons from the well in the middle of the screen and place them, cannot remove buttons, cannot rearrange. The only thing I can do is to take a button for a walk, and drop it back where it was.
Is is a known problem with a known fix?
Firefox 31.3.0 esr on Windows 7 64 bit. What about right-clicking the useless button and then choosing Remove from Toolbar?
The controls on the main toolbar are stored in a preference in about:config, but it could be messy to edit...
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''cust''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''browser.uiCustomization.state''' preference and copy the contents, then paste into Notepad or another text-editor of your choice.
The part after "nav-bar": lists the current buttons on the bar. I tested changing the order of two controls and pasting that back and then launching a new window, but nothing was different. I don't want to restart Firefox right now, so this test is indeterminate.
Perhaps it would be useful to "reset" the toolbar layout? In Customize mode, click the Restore Defaults button on the bottom line of the dialog. Does that let you operate the customize feature more normally? -
I dragged my url to customize toolbar, now my url is gone, how do I get it back?
I mistakenly dragged my url into the customize toolbar, thinking I'd at it to my Favorites, but, it totally disappeared, how do I get it back? I tried all the suggestions I read elsewhere, but, they didn't work.
If you have not tried this already. try this.
Click "View"menu in the Safari menu bar at the top of the screen and select "Show
Toolbar".
or
Click "View" menu in the Safari menu bar and click "Customize Toolbar".
From the drop down drag the default set into the Toolbar.
the one under " or drag the default set into the Toolbar"
Click "Done".
Best. -
Safari 4.0.3 Customize Toolbar problem
After update verything functions OK till I click View/Customise Toolbars. After this action Adresses and Google searches cannot be typed any more unless I restart Safari
Tried to trass com.apple.Safari.plist and restart but nothing changes
No idea how to solve this
JorgeI could not open my "customize toolbar" feature by right clicking in the toolbar nor by choosing selection from the view menu.
I went to Computer/Library/Imput Managers
There I had a list of all the menu plug ins for Safari. I suspected TabExpose was the problem and deleted that first, restarted Safari and it fixed the problem. The security update did not fix it, and deleting the safari plist did not help. This problem occurred with Onyx about 4 months ago also. Deleting the input manager resolved the issue.
Hope that helps someone.

Safari Customize Toolbar doesn't open
When I two-finger click on the toolbar(that has back and forward buttons, address bar and Google search) and choose the Customize Toolbar... option, it doesn't do ANYTHING, well except one thing, it still thinks it's in "customize mode" so now i can't access the address bar or press any buttons, i can ONLY drag them. Does anyone ever had this problem. I've tried reinstalling Safari and I also did Archive & Install and the problem is still there. It's like a virus of some sort. Any help is greatly appreciated.
hey Kuzminator,
i had the very problem you were having, in the end the cause was a SIMBL safari plugin called web snapper ... do you use web snapper? or any SIMBL based plugins? -
Customize Toolbar has been very "hit & miss" lately, attempts to add Google Search are failing. I am using "Safari>View>Customize Toolbar> Drag" with little success.
Any suggestions appreciated, thankx in advance.Ah - I read your initial question as to how to set Google as the search engine, rather than not having the Search field present in the Toolbar.
First, make sure Show Toolbar is set in Safari's View menu - if it is set to show, it will state "Hide Toolbar" instead and you need not change that.
Then, also in the View menu, choose the item "Customize Toolbar...".
Click on the representation of that item (circled below) and drag it to the right end of the Toolbar, between the Address box and the edge of the window. A position marker should appear, at which time you can release it. -

Safari 4 - Customize Toolbar not being remembered.
Okay so I downloaded the new Safari 4, and as always found that I really don't like the default toolbar mainly cause the home button is never one of the default buttons among other ones.
I do the old control click, and customize toolbar.
I set it up exactly how I want.
At some point I quit Safari, the next time I open Safari the toolbar reverts back to the default Safari toolbar, so every time I open up Safari I have to reset my tool bar, or just don't quit safari.
There has to be something I'm missing here.. Anyone know what is wrong and why I have to keep doing this every time I open up Safari again?
-StuartHi Stuart
Welcome to Apple Discussions
May be a corrupted preference file. Via the Finder: move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the desktop and restart Safari. You can find this file in your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. Restart Safari.
This resets Safari preferences to default values. You'll need to reset any custom preferences settings, as well as any special settings in the Edit (spelling) or View menu (custom icons, status bar, etc.)
Also, reset the toolbar to your liking. Quit/restart Safari.

Can't customize toolbar Safari 5.1.2
I have another issue with Safari 5.1.2. I can no longer customize the toolbar. I deleted the plist to try to solve the back forward arrow issue I mentioned in another discussion (this did not solve it). That meant I lost my toolbar icons I had put on. Now I can put them back. When I try to customize, space is made tor the buttons, but the buttons don't appaer. The space is there where the buttons should be, but no buttons.
Back to FireFox again.Fred...
When I try to customize, space is made tor the buttons, but the buttons don't appaer.
You are dragging objects straight up to the toolbar from the Customize Toolbar window? Or the default bar? Will it drag up?
If dragging up doesn't work, quit Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari.
Move the Cache.db from the com.apple.Safari folder file to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari. Try View > Customize Toolbar -
I CANNOT CUSTOMIZE MY TOOLBAR AND I AM JUST ABOUT FEDUP WITH FIREFOX
For the past week I have done nothing but try to get my FIREFOX back the way it was before their last update jacked it all up. NOW I CANNOT CUSTOMIZE MY TOOLBAR WHEN I TRY TO ADD IN THE BACK AND FORWARD ICON IT DISAPPEARS TEN TIMES I HAVE TRIED TO ADD IT I''M SO PISSED AT FIREFOX I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS CRAP
Have you tried using the '''Restore Defaults''' button in the Customize palette?
That should restore the entire User Interface to default.
''Unless you are using the CTR add-on that was mentioned to you back in May 2014.'' -
In Customize Toolbars there is no longer a New Tab tool button to place on the tool bar, there is only a New Window tool button. Has this been deleted from the latest version?
Is Mail still "spinning"? If it's been doing that for a while, I'd kill it, using either Activity Monitor or the OS X application picker. Then relaunch Mail and see what happens.
Two "by the ways":
1) Your system details mention an PPC iMac. Since a non-Intel Mac can't run OS X 10.6, you seem to have another Mac. You might want to consider updating your system details.
2) You seem to have been misled by the poor labeling of the message composition fields on this forum into trying to enter your entire post into the "subject" field. In the future, just enter a summary of your post there and the main text into the field below it. -
I have tried the solutions of showing toolbar (which is not an option under view) and then going into customize toolbar where I try and drag the default tool bar with "address and search" and everythig comes up but "address and search." Any suggestions?
Thanks!Try SHIFT+COMMAND+| (the bar or pipe key under the delete key)
or try zoom out (COMMAND -) -
I have a problem that I cannot remember when it started, but its been some time and I've worked around it ever since. The problem is that when I want to customize Safari's toolbar, no slide out window appears but even clicking on the back and forward buttons or any button for that matter doesn't work! Its as if the customize toolbar page is invisible and it even prevents me from manually typing in a new address!
Only solution I have is to quit Safari.Norm,
The first and easiest troubleshooting step involves replacing/refreshing the com.apple.Safari.plist file.
Quit Safari and find the com.apple.Safari.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag the file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check Safari for normal behavior.

Can´t access customize toolbar window in Aperture 3
Dear Apple community,
When I call "customize toolbar" in Aperture 3.2.4, the window with additional icon options is missing, inlcuding the "done" button (see attached screenshot), but I´m able to move existing icons arround and the rectangular spaces appear. To end the customization mode, Aperture has to be restarted. In other applications there seems to be no problem.
My Sytem is a MacBook Pro, 2.4 Ghz (Core 2 Duo) with 2 GB RAM with MacOS 10.6.8
Aperture was installed from the AppStore and runs in 64 bit mode.
So far, I tried to remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist", with no effect.
I did not reinstall Aperture yet, because the current version in the AppStore seems to require 10.7. Would I still be able to install the latest version running on 10.6.8 from the AppStore?
The Problem has been reported before (https://discussions.apple.com/message/17081479#17081479), but I couldn´t find the solution.
Below, I copied the console report.
Thank you very much for your help,
Felix

That really suggest a system wide trouble - hardware, MacOS X system, or Aperture.app.
Currently I´m wondering, if there are still remains of Aperture 2 around, which could interfere with Aperture 3.
Did Aperture 3 ever work previously correctly? Then I do not think, that there are older receipts from Aperture 2 interfering.
Does the console output (see first post) mean anything to you?
The Console output shows only calls to methods from the standard frameworks that are part of MacOS X, no frameworks that are installed inside the Aperture application. But Aperture might be calling wrong, outdated frameworks or GUI-elements (nib-files) inside the Aperture package may be missing. SO I cannot really tell, if the problem is with the system or with Aperture.
I assume you have done all ritual fixes like rebooting, Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM,
You might try to reinstall Snow Leopard and see, if that fixes it. If not, contact Apple and ask for an Aperture installer.

Léonie
