Safari 4.0.3 constantly "disconnecting" from internet

Hi there,
I have a new iMac 24" and I am having a problem that Safari on a regular basis tells me that I am not connected to the internet. I run the Network Utility and it says I am connected and can ping outside addresses. I have PCs on the same network and they are able to connect to the internet without any problems.
Is this a know problem?
Thanks
Tony

HI Tony,
Have you tried resetting the cable modem? If that's what you are uisng... disconnect from the power source for about 20 seconds, then reconnect. Somestimes recylcing a modem can help.
You are using a network so try a different Airport channel.
Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X.
Select the device you’re setting up, and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.
Open System Preferences/Network and click Advanced. Select the Proxies tab. Make sure none of the protcols for a proxy are selected.
Try Open DNS
No, not a known problem.

my mac osx 10.7.3 constantly disconnects from airport internet. I am able to reconnect every time but do this every 10 mins. i went to try and change channel but no airport base stations were found. i am positive it is not the router as all other devices stay connected. cant find any answers to my problem, just tons of others with the same issue!!!!

You can't discount your router just because the other devices work. The first thing I'd recommend doing is restarting the modem and router, then checking the router has the most up-to-date firmware (need to check that owners manual) and then you can check some other things like DNS settings and router channel conflicts with neighbors.
After restarting the router and double checking the firmware is up-to-date then I'd recommend checking the channel your router is on and what your neighbors use. You can download and use iStumbler, this will scan your area. If you are like most users neither you or your neighbors have changed the router channel from the default 5 or 6 channel. Look to see what channels are not being used and reset the router's channel. If that doesn't work then reset the DNS settings from the defaults your ISP uses. If you get to the point where the DNS does need to be reset here are the instructions:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences
If you want more info on the DNS please read CNET's DNS Article and MacWorld's DNS Troubleshooting articles. If all that fails then you can simply toggle the wi-fi on and off on the w-fi menu in the upper right of your screen.

  • SOLUTION to your HP printer going offline and/or constantly disconnecting from the network

If you are having a problem printing, scanning or faxing with any HP Printer because of it going offline and constantly disconnecting from the network, here is the fix!
I figured this all out after many unsuccessful attempts with HP Support, my Internet Service Provider and various troubleshooting tasks including reinstalling HP software over and over and over.  Well, through self teaching on the internet and 6 grueling months of research, I FINALLY figured it out.  OMG!  I am a Paramedic (not IT) and somewhat computer literate but by far no expert.  I here all of you!  Nobody seems to have the answer but I am 97% sure that I do.  Either way, please reply back and let me know that this did in fact work for you!  :-)
It doesn't matter if your printer is installed wirelessly or wired.  Don’t worry about reinstalling your software, no recycling your printers’ power or your Router/Modem.  The reason your printer is unstable on the network and continues to either go offline or disconnect from the network is NOT because the software is glitched, it’s not a firewall problem per say, it’s not a router problem, there isn’t a problem with your power cord, it’s because most networks use a “range” of IP addresses and for security purposes, it sort of “cycles” the various devices’ IP addresses to decrease the chance of an attack.  A printer is no threat but the “network” doesn’t possess human intelligence so it doesn’t know this.  Below are my step by step instructions on how to basically make your printer hold its IP address (static IP) instead of changing back and forth through a cycle therefore dropping your printer off the network or disconnecting.
Funny, if you are someone who has had items in your print cue, they won’t print, and you turn your printer off and then back on and suddenly your documents print…well, join my club.  The reason this works is because when you first turn on the printer, it starts with the same IP address before it cycles.  If you are someone who sits there for a while and suddenly your documents print without you changing anything…this is because through the IP cycle change, it hits your printers IP address and the network will allow it to print.  Not very funny, I know.  It took me forever to figure out why my printer would print sometimes but not all the time.  Since I figured this out, I can SCAN, PRINT and use all of the features of my installed HP software such as HP Solution Center, Photosmart Essentials.
On your printer, go to menu/setup/network and press OK.  Inside the network menu, print a "network configuration page" so you can see the IP address and other settings for your printer.
Now, go back to main menu on your printers’ screen.  Or you can go to your web browser and type in the IP address using the decimals too and this will take you to your printers’ web page.  Choose: setup\network and press OK.  Look for IP settings and press OK. Choose "manual" instead of "automatic". Enter the IP address there manually as well as the default gateway which you can see on the network configuration page that you printed earlier.  Note: If you manually set the printer's IP, make sure that it is outside of your router's DHCP range. Otherwise you may run into an issue with duplicate IP's on your network. (If you don’t know how to do this, write back and I will explain).  Don’t forget to click “save changes”.  Now, restart your computer and print anything you want.  :-)
A trick I often use with printers in DHCP networks:
In Printers and Faxes right click on the printer and select “properties”.  Click add a new port.  Choose standard TCP/IP port configured to the printer host name. Read the hostname from the printer's network configuration sheet.
Using my method means that you always connect to the printer even if its IP changes (which may happen with dynamic configuration). This does not jeopardize your network security.  It just tells your printer to stay put and stop traveling the IP address highway.  :-)
    This question was solved.

The DHCP range is the range of IP addresses the router hands out automatically as devices join the network.  The DHCP range is determined by the router and each brand has a range set at the factory (that can be changed by you).
Your D-link's DHCP default range is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199.  So, outside the DHCP range is .2 to .99 and .200 to .254.
Attached is a handy cheat sheet.
You can change this range by entering the router's settings page - type the router's IP address into a browser, enter the login info and navigate to the DHCP settings area (varies based on router, hunt around).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

That it is still working is miraclous.. most have died.. lots started flaking out at 18months to 2years..
    See deadtimecapsule.org
The few that remained now seem to have reached EOL.. you can repair if you have some skills.. fairly cheaply.
But it is well and truly time to replace.

Is WebStart to be taken seriously as a deployment vehicle for a commercial application or should I be looking at other solutions?
Also: How do I report bug to Oracle? Do you have to pay for support in order to report bugs?

  • E2000 Constantly disconnects from XBOX Live

I'm  not having an NAT issue, but my e2000 is constantly disconnecting from XBOX Live. About every 3-5 minutes I get disconnected. My wireless is working perfectly, this is only an issue with XBOX Live.
I've followed all the examples on the forums here, like:
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/Need-HELP-to-change-NAT-type-to-open-on-Linksys-E...
    and
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/Open-NAT-xbox-live-problems/td-p/337375
and I have double checked every setting. I'm not sure what is causing this issue.
I've set the MTU, unchecked UPnP, entered port forwarding range to XBOX's static IP address, and set the DMZ to my XBOX's MAC address.
So, what is causing my router to constantly disconnect?

    Try the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Then Click on wireless Tab select Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, and 11. Click Save Settings....
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • After installing visual studio, I get continuously disconnected from internet

    Hi all.
I just installed Visal Studio 2013 Community on my new Acer R13 with W8 Pro. After installation, I get continuousy disconnected from internet. It seems to be something with the virtual adapter that VS creates in order to run WP emulators. Some times I have
to wait a minute or two and the connection comes back up, but sometimes I have o restart my system in order for it to work. Has any one run into this? Any suggestions?
The same thing happend o me on my old latop, a Samsung Chronos Serires 7. I used to think it was a problem with that compuer, but now it seems like a VS or Windows issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi Hugonne,
Based on your issue, to check this issue is related to the VS IDE or your Windows OS, I suggest you could try to install same version of VS on other machine check the issue.
    (1) If you get same issue, I suggest you can try to repaid or re-install the VS2013 Community and then reset the VS setting check this issue.
    (2) If you did not get same issue, I suggest you try to check your network connections on your windows. If the network connections did not have issue, maybe you will need to repair or re-install your OS check this issue again.

  • Install SL OS and a boot camp as disconnected from internet?

i am considering installing an install of Snow Leopard and Boot Camp Windows XP on a hard drive in my Mac Pro and i am wondering if i can keep this disk/OS disconnected from the internet.
i am assuming that Safari and Mac mail will come pre-loaded with the OS but i am wondering if there is a way to keep this a very stripped down without all the annoyances of being connected.
my other OS's are utilizing the world wide web in this machine.
    TIA

Since I do absolute nothing with anything from Microsoft, I am going to have to guess here on that and say that I doubt it seriouslly.
There must be a way to turn off the network under Windows I would guess in a similar way that I suggested for OS X is also my guess. Exactly how to do that would take someone more knowledgable with Windows then me. Sorry.

  • Disconnection from internet behind WRT54G V2.2

I have two computers at home with both access to WRT54G V2.2 wirelessly.
Since the first day i set up the router, both of my computers get disconnected from the internet from time to time. It is very irritating. The two computers are still connected to the router but no data is exchanged with the ISP,for example, both the computers usually will get disconnected from the MSN one after the other. Then, try to connect tp the MSN but it wont be possible. Everytime, i need to do troubleshooting on MSN and the DNS and Wireless part always fail. I will have to click the repair button to make sure that both DNS and Wireless become normal before i can connect to the MSN,as well as websites. Usually,if i dont do the troubleshooting in MSN, i dont know how long i will have to wait before i can access to websites.
    What should i do ??

1, 6 & 11 are the channels that the wireless router are using to transmit signals. try to check which of those three works best for your computers. and if that wont work, lower the beacon to 75, frag to 2306 & rts 2307 for starters. and if still that wont work, i recomend a firmware upgrade. ^__^

  • Cannot bring up saved page, complete or HTML only, if disconnected from internet: "Server not found"

I right clicked, chose "Save Page As...", chose both HTML Only and Complete on 2 different tries. When I tried to bring the page back up when disconnected from the internet network, I receive the "Server Not Found" error page. I shouldn't have to be connected to bring a saved page back up. I've not had this happen before, and it has only happened w/ a particular page, but one which is perfectly normal. What might be the explanation and solution? Thank you.
    Jeff Bowrs

I would start with seeing if the Web Browser on the G4 can get to 192.168.0.1 which should be the web server (Set Up pages) on the router.
If that does not work I would double check the cable (Use another).
If you can I would connect two computers together and see if the Self Assigned IP (169.xxx.xxx.xxx) works to eliminate the Ethernet Card.
You have no connection to the Internet.
You need to sort out where it is breaking down.
As other devices seem to get on the 'Net then it would appear to be:-
The Ethernet Port on the routing device.
    The Cable itself.
The Card or Port on the Mac

  • Asha 201 - Disconnect from internet

I have searched other threads but cannot find an answer.  I have no applications running but the internet is running.  How do I disconnect from the Internet?  If this is directly related to WhatsApp, then how do I switch it off.  Their webside is not too helpful.   I only want to connect to the internet when I want to connect.  I cannot afford to have the internet running all the time.

WhatsApp needs a data connection established and overides device standard protocols, but this doesn't mean data being consumed all the time; unfortunately if this is an issue you will have to un-install this application.

  • Disconnects from internet when it goes to sleep

I have Mountain Lion on an iMac I purchased in 2010.  Once I installed Mountain Lion, it started disconnecting from the internet when it goes to sleep.  Does anybody know how to repair?

Oh yeah I forgot to say I use an ETHERNET connection.

  • Macbook Pro freezes when disconnected from Internet

I'm so frustrated, I was doing important work and now I'm about to pull my hair out, I need to finish what I was doing but I can't even turn on my computer without it freezing, I literally can't even move the mouse because it freezes right on loading screen every time I restart, here's the story.
I disconnected the Internet for just a few seconds, then the computer froze. So naturally I restarted the computer, but each time I restart, it just freezes, I can't move the mouse, I can't click on anything, it's just frozen. Let me know how frustrating that is that you don't have computer access after working on important files.
I have a 2008 non unibody Macbook pro with OS X mavericks, I knew the computer froze when I turned off wifi, but I correlated that with the app that I was running, since I wasn't running the app this time, I thought I could turn off wifi no problem.
But like I said, now I can't even restart or use it at all. I can't even use safe mode because it freezes there too. I can do the cmd+shift+ctrl+r thing and I can connect to the Internet that way, but there's nothing I can do from there. Once I restart, the Internet connection is still disconnected in the main operating system.

Okay I solved the problem. For anyone who runs across this issue in the future, here is the solution:
Step 1) Turn on the computer and hold CMD + Option + S, this will boot the computer into single user mode
Step 2) Type in "Mount -uw /"
Step 3) Type in "vi /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist"
Step 4) Scroll down until you find this part:

I panicked by the way because as someone said earlier, it's nearly impossible to fix:
You cannot fix this problem with Safe Boot, Repair Permissions, Repair Disk, re-install Mavericks, restore from Time Machine backup, reset the SMC, reset PRAM, or boot into single-user mode.  Thus far, the only solution is to boot from a (homemade) Install OS X Mavericks USB, erase the hard drive, perform a clean Mavericks install, re-install your applications, and manually restore your data.
Anyway I'm thankful for Ira Wolf 81 for figuring out, he deserves all the credit for this, I merely repeated his steps and found out he was right. Cheers.
