Safari 4.0.3 fails to open RSS feeds

hi,
on my machine safari is unable to open RSS feeds.
I just get an error saying "can't open connection".
Also in the mail application the subscribed RSS feeds don't update.
When I change the system user everything works fine,
so it seems to be a user-profile problem.
I found several posts on that via google and deleted a lot of safari system files, repaired user permissions, restarted a lot of times - but nothing helped.
The problem remained after updating to snow leopard.

Hello b:
If you have not done so, reset Safari and then trash the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist). Then restart your computer and reenter your Safari personal preferences.

Unable to open RSS Feeds in Safari, I am forced to use the Mail app.
Since I have Safari 6.0 (OS X Lion 10.7.4 on MacBook Pro bought this year)  I am being forced to use the Mail app in order to open RSS Feeds, but I do not want to use the Mail app.
Does someone please has a solution for me? People form Apple, are you reading this? It is annoying me.
    Greetings

250 exciting new features in Lion and 300 new problems or deleted features!
Firefox doesn't show how many unread items there are in a feed, but Safari 5.x did.  I guess I have no reason to use Safari anymore.

Ipad: all my apple apps ( mail, safari, itunes..) fail to open and stay in background

If you double click on the home button, that opens the recents tray and you can see all of the apps you have recently used. Click on one of those app icons when you have that tray open and the app should start up.
If you just click the home button again when the recents tray is open, it will take you back to the home screen and you will be back where you started.

  • Safari cannot open RSS feeds - "could not load any data from this location"

I can't seem to open any RSS feeds inside of Safari. I get this error message:
Safari can’t open the page “feed://feeds.macworld.com/macworld/all” because it could not load any data from this location.
This has happened on every single feed. I just installed Leopard. Anybody have any hints for me?

    Hi
First try Safari from another User Account. When you open Safari, make sure RSS is enabled in the Safari Preferences>RSS. If you can access the feeds there then there may be corruption in either the database or RSS preference files in your Regular User Account. If no go here, then I suggest you reinstall Safari. See this thread for directions.
If the feeds work in the other user account, go back to your regular User Account: Open the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Syndication folder. Move the database3 file to the desktop, then restart Safari. Try an RSS feed. If no change, move the database file back to its original location.
Then move these two preference files in your User Library>Preferences to the desktop:
    com.apple.SyndicationAgent.plist and
    com.apple.Syndication.plist
Restart Safari. Again, try a feed.

  • Script to open RSS feed url's and post those in the background to a webpage

    Dear everyone,
Im trying to work on a script that should do:
    - Read My Apple mail RSS feeds every 120 seconds
    - extract a NUMBER from the links from those RSS feeds
    - then post them to a website url site.com/rss.php?id=<extracted id>
    - It should run totally in the background of my apple
    - The links should be posted in the background also without opening any browser or safari
    Is this possible?
I have my apple now 4 months and this is my first applescript project, so its a bit too much for me, ive spend several hours investigating on how to do this can someone help me out a bit please?
    on idle
if application "Mail" is running then
-- read RSS feeds from apple mail
    -- Extract link ID www.site.com/?id=12345
    -- Post Id 12345 to http://site.com/rss.php?id=<the id>
    end if
    return 120
    end idle

Read My Apple mail RSS feeds every 120 seconds
Start by using a different RSS application.
Mail.app doesn't provide any access to RSS feeds via AppleScript, so there is no chance of doing this with Mail.app (or, at least, no easy way to do so).
    Try something like NetNewsWire instead.
Once you have a viable app, the first part is pretty straightfoward:
    on idle
if application "NetNewsWire" is running then
--extract a NUMBER from the links from those RSS feeds
tell application "NetNewsWire" to set numLinks to total unread count
     end if
     return 120
    end if=idle
From here, though, I don't know what you're trying to do. You say:
then post them to a website url site.com/rss.php?id=<extracted id>
Do you mean you want to post the number of RSS messages (since that's what you asked for earlier), or do you mean you want to re-post the RSS articles? Or do you mean you want to download the links and re-post the entire linked article?
That's three options (and there are probably more), each of which require a different approach.

  • Bookmark opens RSS feed instead of HTML

    Hi -
This has happened to me several times and I don't know why. I will use a bookmark to open a specific page, and I'll get the feed:// instead of the html page. In addition, my bookmark then changes to the RSS feed. Anyone else ever had this happen?

  • Safari 2.0.4 can't detect RSS feed from my site.

    Good Day!
This morning I craeted and posted a short Podcast. It is located at:
    www.debbierosemyers.com/resources
There is a link to the Podcast called Podcasts. When I click the link, it opens in Safari as tons of text. I cannot get it to download as anything but a text file.
When I open it in Netscape, the file downloads to my desktop and open in iTunes with no problem. My friend was also able to download it from a Windows based machine as well using Explorer. I seems to work in Firfox as well.
I just can't figure out if I created the file incorrectly or if there is somehting in Safari that I have set wrong. Can someone help me out?
    Thanks!

took me a second to figure out what you were asking...plus your posted link was missing some pieces.
Anyway, you have a link to an .m4a audio file. Browsers have a set of file extension associations that tell the browser what to do when it comes across a specific file type...prompt you to download it, open another application, etc... In your browser there should be a preferences or settings area, look for something called MIME Types or File Types...most likely the .m4a file type either doesn't have anything associated with it, it's set improperly or its not in there at all.

  • I cannot open rss feeds - Firefox asks whether I want to open or save both rss.php files and application/rss+xml files - any help out there?

Trying to add feeds to live bookmarks - cannot figure out what setting to change so that when I click on the "subscribe to" button the option to add these feeds to live bookmarks is available.

Did you find a solution to this yet? I'm trying to do exactly the same thing.

  • I upgraded Safari this morning, and now when I try and read an RSS feed it opens up mail.

After upgrading Safari this morning, I can no longer open RSS feeds.  When I try to read an rss feed, it opens mail.  How can I read rss feeds in Safari?

    Safari 6
RSS feature is no more available in Safari 6.
    Apple removed it.

  • 'Reset Safari does not clear rss feeds' cache before restart

Everything is in the subject line. Reset Safari doesn't seem to clear the rss feed cache, until Safari is quit and restarted.

It's possible that your ISP is serving up the "older" file.
    Do this to "trick" it:
    Old URL = http://apple.com
Change the URL in the browser address and add a question mark at the end of the URL:
    New URL = http://apple.com?

  • Having trouble accessing rss feed addresses through safari

When I'm looking at a blog in Safari, and click the button for (say) "RSS feeds, entries," I get an error message that says "no associated application could be found." I have no way to get the feed address.
I used to get a pop-up menu that allowed me  to to either import the feed into one of the popular readers, or to cut and paste it manually.I'm using Feedly  now (and playing with Digg Reader), if that helps.
On Firefox, all works exactly as expected.

I have recently uninstalled Trusted Extensions on a few of the machines and I have full use of the browser manager for my APC PowerChute software. Are there certain privledges I need to set up within TX to allow local access to the afformentioned port/software?

  • Mail RSS Feeds Stopped Updating

    Hi there,
In the past week, I've noticed that my Mail RSS feeds have stopped updating and I'm also unable to open/subscribe to new RSS feeds.
When I try to click on a new RSS feed in Safari, I get the following error message:
Safari can’t open the page “feed://www.vanilladays.com/feed/”. The error was: “Operation could not be completed. (Mach error 268435460 - (ipc/send) timed out)” (NSMachErrorDomain:268435460) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
In parallel to this, I've noticed that Safari is is also taking around 5 minutes to load (the is normal once loaded). I've got a separate topic about this.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? I was having these problems before I updated OSX yesterday.
    Thanks for any help,
    Ste

i was able to find this on another website...
CXL: Safari fails to display RSS feeds when CPU is under load or free disk space on system drive is small. That pretty much sums it up. It's annoying, too, because if Time Machine is doing its hourly backup or I'm converting video files, Safari's RSS display repeatedly fails with the same error message: "Mach errore 268451843 - (ipc/rcv) timed out" or "NSMachErrorDomain:268451843". Under the same conditions, Safari fetches and displays normal webpages perfectly fine. Filed: 5610533.
but this doesn't make sense, I have about 4.5 GB free on my startup drive....
i also found this apple thread which is about the same issue, but also has no resolution..

e.g.: 'Safari can’t open the RSS feed “feed://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/HomePage.xml”. To open RSS feeds in Safari, you need MacOS X 10.4 or newer.'
    OK. =/
what!? i just upgraded the system and it's telling me to reverse steps in order to activate a current application? confused

I don't know why it's not working, but it's not telling you to reverse steps. "10.4 or newer" is what you have. That message is for people using 10.3 Safari. Could it be you opened an old version instead of the 10.4 one?

  • Rendering RSS Feed page(listfeed.aspx) in IE

    Hi,
In Sharepoint 2013 when i am trying to open RSS Feed page _layouts/15/listfeed.aspx from any list/Doclib or any app ribbon, the page is not rendering correctly and its for for IE versions below IE11.
I am seeing a plain text page without any branding been applied to it.
when clicked on "Subscribe to this feed" getting a page not found error.
I want to know the solution which would enable me to view the page correctly and subscribe to it.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I was able to reproduce same error what you faced.  I think for RSS feed page will not have branding applied, this might be by design.
To resolve the subscribe issue, Please enable the RSS Feed in the IE by going to Internet Options as shown in the screen shot.
Once you enable RSS feed in IE, click on Subscribe to this feed.  It works.
Please mark as answered, if your problem resolved.
