Safari 4.0.5 Update overrides Acrobat Document Properties Now :(
I publish my .pdf usually with Password Security (printing allowed), Document Properties> Initial View: Pages Panel & Pages> Page Layout: Single Page> Magnification: Fit Page
Now Safari appears to be overiding my settings: It is opening without Page Panel and it is Fitting Width.
Does this ever stop...
OSX 10.6.3, CS4 Acrobat Pro 9.3.1
I originally reasoned this was a Apple problem, but now believe it may be a change in the Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plug-in.

Safari 7.0.6, using Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10, isn't rendering pdf files in the Print Preview screen. Additionally, only a single, blank page prints for a multi-page pdf document. Any ideas?
Figured it out. It had nothing to do with the software levels of Safari or Adobe Acrobat. Here's the fix:
Open Finder/Applications
Search "Internet Plug-Ins"
Move any Adobe plug-ins to the trash
Quit Safari
Launch Safari
Your pdf document should now render in Print Preview and print properly. -
Remote Update Manager - Acrobat Pro
Hello everyone,
Please review this snippit from the Remote Update Manager (RUM) documentation.
Note: Remote Update Manager is meant only for a subsection of Adobe Desktop products. It can not be used for browser plug-ins such as Flash Player and for Adobe Reader, Acrobat Professional, and Adobe AIR application updates.
I ask the question... WHY?
Why, at the very least isn't Acrobat Pro part of the Adobe Update Server Setup Tool (AUSST) and RUM configuration?
I've finally gotten my Adobe udate server working and created a Scheduled Task to run the incremental update everyday. Perfect.
Now I'm implementing the override files on my client machines and creating a Scheduled Tasks to run the RemoteUpdateManager so that my users (as well as myself) do not have to worry about updating the Adobe programs... BUT... one of the programs that we use quite a bit, Acrobat Pro, is not part of this automated update scenario.
So, I'm left still updating Acrobat manually which almost, but not quite, defeats the purpose of AUSST & RUM.
Can anyone from Adobe tell me whether there are plans to add Acrobat Pro to the automated updating procedure mentioned above?
Please say yes.
I'm so close to being at the point where the Adobe updates are completely automated. Adding Acrobat Pro to the list would be like hitting a grand slam in the 9th inning to win the game.
Thanks in advance.Markus, thank you for the information.
First, If Acrobat is not a creative product then it shouldn't be offered in the CC collection of programs.
Second, Things being the way they are - Acrobat being deployable with the CC programs - it should be updated the same way as the CC programs. It would just make it nice and tidy and dare I say efficient.
I will check out the link to the tools. Great, more software to download, install and configure. -
Is there any way to reset the file type to "Adobe Acrobat Document" rather than "pdf file"?
An update from WordPerfect automatically installed Foxit on my computer without warning me. I uninstalled it and reinstalled CS5 and Acrobat 11 but when I look at a list of files in Windows Explorer, all of my PDF files are simply listed as "PDF file" rather than "Adobe Acrobat Document". I rely on the Adobe name to get my PDF listed at the top of list of files when I sort by document type for something that I need to do 4 or 5 times a day. Having it buried under "PDF" is causing lots of errors.
I've tried searching the registry but can't find anything that would make this change. I know it's related to the computer because when I use my laptop to view the same folder on the desktop, the laptop shows the files as "Adobe Acrobat Document". I just don't know where to look to fix this.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
GiGiI have already reinstalled both Adobe Reader and the full version of CS5 which includes Adobe Pro. Neither of those steps worked.
Thanks,
GiGi -
How do I reverse a recent update to Acrobat 9 Pro?
After a recent update to Acrobat 9 Pro, PDF documents do not diplay properly. The resolution is very poor, and bold fonts are too dark. These documents display properly (and as before the update) in Acrobat 9 Reader. How can I fix this or return to a previous version?
That's it! Page Display/Smooth Text was set to None. I have changed it to Laptop/LCD with all options
checked, and it looks as it should. I have never touched that setting, so I'm wondering if the update
did something to change it. I am also getting dialog boxes re Accessibility settings, which never come
up before. Thanks so much for this simple and very effective fix!

Since updating to Acrobat 9.3 PS CS4 crashes when saving pdf
I have CS4 Web Premium. When I save a document in pdf format from Photoshop(PS) CS4, it normally opens the saved document in Acrobat 9.x. Up until yesterday, when I installed the Acrobat 9.3 update, the results have always been to have the document open in both Acrobat and PSCS4. Now, however, when I save a pdf document in PSCS4, the document, after an unusually long lag after clicking the "save pdf" button in PSCS4, opens in Acrobat as before BUT Photoshop Crashes; an error says that PS experienced and error and will be closed....
I would like to know how to correct this, if possible. Alternatively, I would like to uninstall the update to Acrobat, since everything worked great before I installed it. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Please repost in the Acrobat Windows forum.

Safari 4.0.4 update creates 7510 new permissions problems
Prior to installing Safari update, running the 'Repair Permissions' in Disk Utility found only one error -- the SUID modification on ARDAgent (Apple Remote Desktop Agent). Apple documents this as being a known issue, but harmless and can be safely ignored. (I'm on OS X 10.6.2 -- if you're still on Leopard then you probably see more errors reported by Disk Utility.)
AFTER installing the Safari update, running the 'Repair Permissions' now finds 7511 errors (7510 new issues).
Most of the errors (I confess I did not actually read all 7510 of them line-by-line) indicate that permissions on the files have been modified to -rw-rw-r-- when they should have been -rw-r--r-- (in Unix that means they've added 'write' permission to make the files group-writeable when they should have been just owner-writeable and universally read-able.)
People have been commenting on the sloppiness of Apple's file permissions for years. It would be so trivial for Apple to catch this during their testing.... after applying the patch, check Disk Utility's 'Repair Permissions' and see if the patch introduced new errors and, if so, correct them prior to releasing the patch.
The good news is that Disk Utility does correctly repair the permissions. If you run a 2nd pass of 'Repair Permissions' you'll see that all the new errors introduced by Safari 4.0.4 patch are cleaned up.Hello Tim:
Ignore the list. All of us have seen that and have reported it to Apple.

Acrobat Pro 9.5.1 Document Properties glitch
Hi,
When trying to view the document properties in Acrobat Pro 9.5.1 I get the below screenshot. The box is tiny and so small nothing can be viewed. I have to press ESC to close the window. I can only use ALT+SPACE to move it also.
PC config:
Generic Dell Crap Vostro 200.
Windows XP SP3
CS4 DP - only Acrobat, Distiller, Bridge, Illustrator and Photoshop, no InDesign.
CS5.5 DS - Everything but Acrobat X as it isn't compatible with our plugins and add-ons.
All Adobe software is updated, as is the windows OS. AV is AVG Business.Yes, I've tried multiple repairs.
Here is my sysinfo file if it helps. I noticved that some of the plugins were doubled up in their own folder and the plugin fodler, so I removed the apis from the plugin folder...

After updating to Acrobat PRO 9.5.2 PDFs open VERY Slowly
I am using Acrobat PRO on a workstation (Windows 7 Ultimate - Service Pack 1)
After updating to Acrobat PRO 9.5.2, all pdf files open VERY slowly (30-60 secs). It does not appear to matter if the file is local to the workstation or on the network. Also the size of the file does not seem to matter or whether this is the first file opened or a subsequent file.
In addition just opening Adobe Acrobat is equally slow.
I have tried turning off the anti-virus software. No impact.
Any suggestions appreciated...Have you tried "Repair Acrobat Installation" to see if it makes any difference? To do this try this:
Help >> Repair Acrobat Installation.
Another option is to press the shift key while clicking or double clicking on the PDF file to open. this stops loading all the useless fonts in the document and other useless plugins in acrobat.
The third option is to delete the registry key that appears to be corrupted . However, if you nothing about registry keys, then you can't do it unless your company systems people can help you. The registry entries are:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Acrobat Reader
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Adobe Acrobat
It is a question of renaming them while you have exited from acrobat. Once this is done, restart the system and start/launch the acrobat and the fresh keys will be generated. PLEASE NOTE: DON'T DO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE THE HELP OF YOUR SYSTEMS PEOPLE IN YOUR COMPANY.
Hope this helps. -
Update to Acrobat 9.4.2 failed Error code 1646
I received a notice of an update to Acrobat 9.4.2 and initiated the update. The update failed with error code 1646. I then manually downloaded the update and attempted the update. I received the error message that uninstall of this update is not supported. Is there any way to purge this failed update so I can reinstall it? I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7.
Hi all--has anyone been able to fix this problem? I ran into the same exact issue as oloven upgrading from 9.4.5 to 9.4.6. Now I am trying to upgrade to Acrobat X, but am not able to since Acrobat 9 cannot be uninstalled. This is the only thread I can find discussing this problem anywhere...
I generated an install log for when I try to install 9.4.6 following the steps SimonATS outlined above. From a first look through, it looks like the problem may be related to an inability to find old update files? I took over this machine from someone else, and the updates would have been installed under his username...it looks like that might be causing some mix-ups.
Any ideas?

Problem: I updated to Acrobat (v.9.5) this morning and now I'm unable to print my PDF documents. Printing PDFs were fine before updating this morning.
What I did: Restart my computer a few times but was unable to get my system to print PDFs. Thus, I uninstalled Acrobat 9.5 and upgraded to version X, but the problem persist.
Question: Is anyone else experiencing this problem, too? Anyone have a solution? The crash report is below.

How can I update Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard
How can I update Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard after installing it on Windows 7? Ive tried a few AcrobatUpd8**_all_incr.msp files but I get an error that the program to upgrade may be missing. I cannot afford to upgrade it to X* when this works for what I need it for which is simply to break up multi page documents created by Quickbooks.
Certainly, the printer driver in Acrobat 8.0 cannot install in Windows 7 64 bit - it wasn't written too. Apparently, though, 8.1 is capable of installing the printer driver.
Unfortunately, Adobe have taken down the page with release notes. But you may need to use the *efg* (English, French, German) versions. See http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-patch-acrobat-reader-7.html
After 8.1 there is a "universal" (all language) update. -
Can't seem to change the Document Properties > Advanced > Reading Options in a Form that was created in Adobe LiveCycle. This option has been "greyed" out - anyone know how to update this to English so I can pass Accessibility Testing?
LiveCycle forms use a very different approach to create a PDF form than Acrobat and that approach makes many features for processing PDFs non-functional.
You might want to ask this question in one of the LiveCycle product forums. -
Is there a Safari extension (or plug-in) for Acrobat Pro?
Is there a Safari extension (or plug-in) for Acrobat Pro? I use to have one, then when I updated to the new Yosemite operating system, it disappeared.
For Acrobat Pro? I don't really understand. You don't typically *edit* PDFs in a browser.
Note that Acrobat Reader is totally unnecessary on OS X. I'd recommend avoiding it. If you are creating PDFs, or doing advanced features that make it worth spending hundreds of dollars, then Acrobat Pro may make sense, but otherwise, just use Preview. -
How to type visible text in an Acrobat document?
Hi there.I totally don't know how to use Acrobat and I'd like to know how to fill up an Acrobat document.
Whenever I try to type text in the blank fields, nothing shows and I can't see if there is text or what I'm writing.
It would be nice to know how to make the text appear in black.
I've tried the different tools but can't change anything.
Thanks for any help.I had the same issue recently. At work, most use is through a terminal server. Not sure if Adobe was updated, or changec, because I never paid attention to the version before. Currently it is Adobe Acrobat Standard 7.0. I'm not sure if there are any other numbers to that designation as I cannot find a simple "About Adobe" under help.
In either event, there's no more typewriter under tools. However, it looks like I found an alternative.
Tools > Advanced Editing > TouchUp Text Tool
However, I am noticing it is not as versitile as Typwriter was. For example, I am trying to add numbers in a "Field" on a form, but when I click the document with the tool where I want it, it won't allow me to type where I want. I have to put the text "next" to the field title, and not under the title where you would naturally complete the field. If that makes sense.
