Safari 4.0 issues

Hi, i installed the new safari, but now its crashes my net connection for all browsers!, opera, and firefox does not connect at all once, safari drops the connection, but i'm still connected, i'm on wireless but my room is the closest to the router, it just passes thru a 2 walls, but now i can't find the version before 4.0 and instal that so i don't have to deal with the beta version, so that i don't have to restart my computer for the browser to pick up on the net again, its annoying and i'm sure restarting like 10 times a day is bad, very bad, now i don't use it all and switched to opera, but i still have the connection problems cause safari 4.0 is still on the comp, and i'm still looking for answers and trying to find the last version, the 3.0.2 ver of safari, does anyone know where i can find it so i can go back a version

You should try shutting down, unplugging your modem for a few minutes, then plug it in again and reset it. When you finally get up and running, change open System Preferences>Network and change your DNS servers to these two:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Save the changes, then use Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions. Next, go to Users/Username/Library/Preferences and remove the com.apple.Safari.plist file. Then restart Safari and test it out to see if the problem continues. If not, then it would seem to be a corrupted preference file. You should also create a new user account to test in to see if the problem is in that account also. If it is, then it's a systemwide issue; otherwise it's limited to your normal user account.

Safari localisation great issue.

Hi.
After installing safari 4 stable i've got problem with quick time plugins installed. As i found, it all because of language settings.
When i set russian as a default language, reboot system, i've got all menus in my apps on russian. Great.
But when i go to installed plugins in safari, i see, that content type of handled mime-types translated too!
So corrent content type "video/quicktime" translates into "видео/quicktime".
Because of this, safari can't play any video or audio files in browser window!!! (It translats almost all content tipes!) It downloads file and open it in quicktime app!!!
For now i found only 1 solution - use english language as default. But i won't use it for a long...
Anyone has suggestion, how to stop it from translating content tipe to any language?!
BTW, my firefox on the same mac work fine and it's not translating content name. So, this is not quick time plugin issue.

Airport Extreme Skype works, but not mail or Safari? Port issue?

So I have a weird issue with my AE.
Often the internet will just go away...Safari will not work, iChat will not work and mail will not work. Today when it happened I noticed Skype was still logged in and working. I hadn't noticed this previously since I just this week installed Skype. When I am having an issue with my MacBookPro the MacBook in the house also has the same issue so it can't be my computer.
I also don't think its comcast because of the whole Skype working fine thing. Also when I "borrow" someone elses wifi connection everything works...mail works, Safari, etc...
So it must be something with my Airport Extreme. The only thing I can think of is some port issue. The AE has the lastest firmware from a month ago or so...
This tends to happen about once a week for a few hours and then it suddenly gets better for no apparent reason. The AE is in a cabinet in the entertainment center so it gets a bit warm in there sometimes but this morning it was pretty cool in the house and it still did it so I don't think its heat related...
Any other thoughts?

naw i'm back in the states now so it's pretty much no longer an issue. thanks though! If you know anything about mirror agent and logout issues you could look at my other question in using mac OSX Tiger called "mirror agent & failed logout -- HELP!"

Firefox/Safari page div issues...

Hi ,
I have a “center-align” issue in most browsers – actually – the only one I’m sure it works in so far is IE 8 – but not sure why?
Within my dev site, The footer is centered with the content on all pages (as it should be) – with the exception of the homepage. In the content area of the homepage is a javascript which has a “slider” feature to scroll through a few images – and for some reason it causes the footer to align to the left side of the page:

Secondarily (sorry) on my video pages – the video player was aligned far left – but it seemed to fix when I added a new div above it with a “sub-navigation” set of text links within – the video recentered with that in place. Not sure why, but not complaining. Now I can’t seem to get this sub-navigation to center above the video player in Firefox, Safari, etc…

Thanks for taking the time to look - I'm not sure that's it... all of the pages are built from a template, with the header and footer "locked", and only the "main content" area is editable. The bottom of all pages (homepage included) has the closing div for the container outside of the footer, so something else is amiss - I just can't seem to place a finger on it...

QuickTime Safari Plug-In Issues

Hi, I have a 2010 mac that runs on snow leopard and I have both QuickTimeX? (latest version I think) and QuickTime 7.6.6 installed. I tried to stream a video clip on safari the other day, and while the graphics were fine and smooth, the audio would produce static "pops" like a "ch" sound at intervals throughout the clip. The period between the intervals was characterized by no audio. So basically "ch" silence for 5 seconds, "ch" again, silence for 5 seconds etc. video being fine.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Your "kitty" feed works just fine for me using Safari and Snow Leopard.
Difficult to diagnose the cause as there is no longer a QuickTime "System Preferences" pane where settings can be tested.
The "negotiating" is talk between your streaming server and the browser plug-in. Once things are settled out playback begins. And it works for me but not for you.
Test the page using a different User account. This helps rule out many issues.

Safari or IPhone issue with Website ..

Hey guys, .. question..
I have a Win 2003 Server and setup IIS. I've designed a website. Firast I had many *.png and a wallpaper with a size of 500K. I had issues with getting the page loaded, which mean that 2 images were loaded and the rest not. now i reduced each pictures size down to 5K. So the web site will load really quick now.
When I go to my work computer i can access my site without any issues. but the IPhone try to load but then after 5-10 minutes it don't show anything. I connected to EDGE first and then to another WIFI spot to see if it's the connection speed.
So my question, SAFARI on the IPhone do show lots of websites like ESPN or CNN which have a bigger data size but it can't show a simply site that i've made.
what could be the issue? I testd it just now from y work system and it pops up without issues, i also did a cold bootup (IPhone)

To help narrow it down some, does the page load with Safari beta for Windows on your computer?
Does the page get any errors with tools for validating the HTML of the page? Such as:
http://validator.w3.org/
Have you verified your links to the images are not pointing to your local hard drive, instead of using a URL?

Safari web browser issue in 4.3

Prior to 4.3 on an original ipad I had no issues with accessing my companys web site applications. after purchesing an IPAD 2 I can no longer access the online apps. I get an error "Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost" I'm not sure what is going on, my original Ipad which i've not yet upgraded is running 4.2 had no issues running the online apps. I've matched all setting and still no change. is there a bug with 4.3 connecting to or through secure networks.

The only other suggestion that I can provide is to reset Safari. It may be worth a try.
Tap Settings, then tap Safari on the left side. Then on the right side - tap clear history, clear cookies, clear cache. Clear all three.Reboot your iPad. Hold down on the sleep button at the top until the red slider appears and slide to power off. Then hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and the iPad will restart. Launch Safari and see if helped.
If you are still experiencing issues you may want to check with your company's IT people to see if they can offer a solution.

Viewing mac's webmail in safari - scroll bar issues

i've noticed that the apple site and .mac have had a makeover in the last few days.
it's a nice upgrade, but i'm having problems viewing my .mac webmail with safari;
i have webmail set up with 3 panes; left hs are folders, top is messages and bottom is preview. however now the scrollbars do not allow me to scroll to the end of the message preview. instead, when the scroll bar is at the bottom of the window i have only scrolled through part of the message!
does anyone know if this is a mail or safari issue, and how to fix it - it's very annoying!
(i would use the mail app but i'm behind a firewall and can't configure it, so i have to use safari and webmail)

MAJOR Wireless, Safari, Dock & Finder issues after latest updates

I'm having major issues after the latest AirPort, Security Fix and Safari updates in 10.5.2: Safari keeps crashing every hour, Wireless connections time out and Airport occasionally crashes when I try to turn it off/on. Sometimes the systems gets stalled and has lag - I'm not sure if Safari crashing is causing this or it's the system that causes Safari to freeze and crash - often the dock becomes unresponsive too and makes me force shutdown and reboot. I've had to reboot like this more than 4 times today, something isn't right. My questions, therefore:
1) Is there a way to restore my Mac to the state BEFORE the latest upgrades?
2) I can't recall the exact names and versions of the updates, is there a way to access the update log files, so that I can take notes on what actually was updated and when?
3) Is there any other way to access log files that may have more information on the crashes that I've had lately?

In this situation, the first thing I would do is log into a different user account (if you do not have one, create one) and then see if the symptoms persist with the new user account. To directly answer your questions:
1) Is there a way to restore my Mac to the state BEFORE the latest upgrades?
Archive and Install using the OS DVD or by using Time Machine if you have it enabled.
2) I can't recall the exact names and versions of the updates, is there a way to access the update log files, so that I can take notes on what actually was updated and when?
Fire up System Preferences, click on the Software Update icon and then select the Installed Updates tab.
3) Is there any other way to access log files that may have more information on the crashes that I've had lately?
Console, which is in your Applications/Utilities folder.

Safari 4 Final Issue with Home Page Preference

In Safari > Preferences > General:
At the moment, my General prefs are set as --
Default browser: Safari.app (4.0.2)
New windows open with: Same
New tabs open with: Same
Home Page: http://www.google.co.uk/
Remove History: Manually
Save d/l'd files to: Desktop
Remove d/l'd items: Upon Successful d/l
Open safe files after d/l'ing: checked
Open links from apps: in new window
...the reason being, unless I set "New windows/tabs open with..." to exactly the same option/URL as the home page (or vice-versa, unless the home page is set the same as "new windows/tabs open with..."), Safari 4 Final will only open to whatever is set in "New windows/tabs...", not the selection I've made for my home page.
It does not matter what URL I use for Home -- http, https, a Google account, a non-Google account, etc. -- Safari 4 Final will not open with my preferred home page.
I would rather have:
New windows/tabs open with: Bookmarks
Home Page: http://www.google.co.uk/
-OR-
New windows/tabs open with: Bookmarks
Home Page: https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin
I've searched diligently for a solution via MRoogle, Google, Apple forums, for several hours. I've deleted the Safari plist and restarted, I've performed every standard, recommended ploy (archive & install, Disk Utility, ya-da, ya-da) and I have....nada.

Unless you leave your Mac on between 3:15 and 5:30am in your time zone, it can't run cron tasks for you (maintenance) which can help with the Safari issue.
Try forcing background maintenance, instructions here.

If using the Terminal application seems daunting... get Cocktail It's free and easy to use. Once it's installed click the Pilot tab, then click Tasks and click Run. This will run maintenance. When it's finished Quit Cocktail and restart your Mac.
Hopefully you will be able to set a home page now.

Odd Safari Youtube Player Issue.

As of last night safari started doing this in Youtube where half of the video will appear white! It will go away if I enter full screen and back. I've tried every thing to correct this issue and no luck.
I have reinstalled safari, deleted the cache, cleared the flash cookies, deleted the profile, deleted the prefs and i'm now running in 32 bit mode. When I start the vid it will flash a white vid screen and half the vid screen in small size will appear white. if it's only youtube, and a new user account on your mac is the same, then very likely it's their end, not yours.
You could try different Flash versions (newer and older and even the 64 bit 'preview') or disabling hardware acceleration or switching browser user agents - but they were perhaps included in 'everything'

Safari (6.0) issues an error message re extension being disabled.

Since installing the 'latest' version of Safari - an extension I had running is creating an error when Safari starts up. However, when I got to the Extension tab in Safari Preferences, the extension is NOT there (anymore) so I cannot remove it.
Where could I find this extension - to remove - and hence stop the error message from coming up?
The extension was 'Safari OmniBar' which gave Google-like search from the URL field.

I've been dealing with the exact same omnibar issue since updating Safari. I've tried going to the Safari extensions folder in Finder (Home>Library>Safari>Extensions) but can't locate the actual extension (even though all my other extensions are there).
Apple? Any thoughts?

How to uninstall?
Remove the extension by running the following command:
sudo rm -rf /Library/Application\ Support/SIMBL/Plugins/SafariOmnibar.bundle
Alternatively you may download this uninstaller and run it. Note that uninstaller won't remove SIMBL Agent as you may use some other SIMBL plugin and we don't want to break them.

Safari 3 Final issues

1. I dislike the image resizing function, where's the disable option for this?
2. Non of my bookmarks have icons. When I visit the site, the icons appear. When I next relaunch Safari, they are gone again.
3. It also seems my auto-fill thing is reset or is broken, haven't had time to test that out fully.
That's about it.

I am addressing only one issue (I have no guesses on the others). The missing favicon thing is odd (mine are all here). I know there is a method of killing them (some do not like them, but I cannot remember where i read about that (so you could try reversing the process).
I did a search in the forums on 'favicon,' and there were some issues noted (they may or may not be relevant to you).

Possible Safari wildcard SSL issue

I really hope this is the right venue for this sort of thing. This is my first post here, so please forgive me if this is not the place.
That said, I think that I have run into an issue with the way that wildcard SSL is handled in Safari.
I have an SSL cert for *.sld.tld (a wildcard cert) I expect the cert to operated properly with 'www.some.sld.tld' under SSL but interestingly, that won't work under Safari.
I'm sorry to be dry and cite RFPs, but I think it best illustrates the problem and perhaps why both Firefox and Opera will allow for the above as valid in SSL with a wildcard cert.
The author for RFC2818 (which is the RFC I think that most folks will probably point to regarding this issue) says "Matching is performed using the matching rules specified by [RFC2459]." and then goes on to give some examples.
RFC2459 says, "For URIs, the constraint applies to the host part of the name. The constraint may specify a host or a domain. Examples would be "foo.bar.com"; and ".xyz.com". When the the constraint begins with a period, it may be expanded with one or more subdomains. That is, the constraint ".xyz.com" is satisfied by both abc.xyz.com and abc.def.xyz.com. However, the constraint ".xyz.com" is not satisfied by "xyz.com". When the constraint does not begin with a period, it specifies a host. " - Page 35 RFC 2459
and this:
"DNS name restrictions are expressed as foo.bar.com. Any subdomain satisfies the name constraint. For example, www.foo.bar.com would satisfy the constraint but bigfoo.bar.com would not." - Same page RFC 2459
Specifically, if you substitute 'abc' with 'www' in this phrase from above -".xyz.com" is satisfied by both abc.xyz.com and abc.def.xyz.com., you pretty much get what I want to have happen in Safari. Specifically, www.sld.tld and www.def.sld.tld would be both valid for HTTPS requests using the wildcard *.sld.tld SSL certificate.
If I have DNS control of a domain and I have a wildcard cert for that domain, then really based on logic and the RFC cites above, any valid DNS sub domain under the controlled domain should be available for SSL.
Tell me where I am going wrong here. Or, if I actually found a problem, please fix the bug when you can.
I don't wish to be accused of self promotion, so I won't list my real world URL example here, however if someone at Apple would like to have it, they are welcome to contact me and I will provide a direct example of the problem.

I have not independently researched the RFCs, but I am running into a similar problem and require a similar solution as you request. In my case, the issue arises in Mail.app instead of Safari.
I found the following reference in another forum, which would indicate that this person's interpretation of the RFC for wildcard domains in certificates is that an asterisk (*.foo.com) is only valid at one sub level (this interpretation is opposite yours, unfortunately). This behavior seems counter-intuitive, and I, like you, would hope that it would match all sub levels under foo.com.

In my case, I am trying to secure mail connections using SSL in Mail.app when connecting to a mail server hosted by a hosting company (MediaTemple.net). Their hosting domain is gridserver.com, and their SSL cert is for *.gridserver.com. Their hosted mail servers are provided via machine names similar to the following:
myhosteddomain.com.myaccountnumber.gridserver.com
Even after storing the *.gridserver.com cert in my keychain appropriately, this will not match in Mail.app.
Other forums (including the one above) seem to indicate that other mail clients honor the wildcard match for all manner of subdomains, regardless of whatever the 'correct' interpretation of the RFCs are. I hope that Apple will either set us straight on an appropriate way to achieve this, set us straight on why it is a dangerous thing to do, or consider modifying their certificate matching in Mail and Safari, etc., to support these subdomain issues.

Safari 5.1 issues, on Mac OS X v10.7 Lion

Okay well everytime I'm on a website that has MEEBO IM chatting, the page never finishes loading.. The loading sign up at the tab keeps showing that it's loading, and on the page itself, it says the URL of the site.. and How much it has completed loading.. I never had this problem on snow leopard. Also, I'm noticing that Safari feels a bit sluggish.. I feel like if it's slower than Snow Leopard... Safari also freezes up on me a lot now, and on snow leopard it didn't.. I usually have to Force quit or something..
I also reset safari daily, and I also disabled all the new MAC OS X Lion Gestures because I notice they make my computer run even more sluggish..
For examlpe the gestures aren't fun to use while on youtube or something..
Well I want to know if anyone else is having this problem, and how can I fix it.
