Safari 4.02 *desperately* slow. I can back-grade to what I had before?

and I don't mean a little slow, but painfully, uselessly slow. it seems to want to keep on loading things to a page. perhaps things which aren't part of a page, but which are linked to it?
bottom line is that before, pages loaded in a second or two. now? i can go make coffee while pages load.
takes me right back to the early days of the intertoobs.
I have a G4 Mini with Tiger and what I had before worked fine. Can I backgrade or am I lookin' at nuke and pave just for this?
thanks!

(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
form values
download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
com.apple.Safari.plist
Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
Less likely, but possible, is that the slowness is caused by a Trojan such as the one called 'DNSChanger' or 'OSZ.RSPlug', which can alter the DNS settings of your network connection. This particular Trojan can be inadvertently installed if you have come across certain Quicktime movies where got a window stating that you have to download and install a particular codec in order to see the video.
If you have agreed to that installation, your system can be infected and your DNS settings altered, which results in your system using the wrong DNS servers, which can slow web surfing to a crawl.
This can be fixed by downloading and running a freeware utility called DNSChanger Removal Tool which you can download from here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696
Once you have run that utility you have to re-boot your Mac, then reset Safari, and re-enter your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network.

  • The new iTunes is terrible. Can I downgrade to what I had before?

The new iTunes upgrade is just plain awful. Apple used to be the most user friendly thing out there but now theyre trying to do too much and it just ***** my balls. Can i downgrade to the itunes I had before? If so, how?

Did you uninstall iTunes 11 and replace it with iTunes 10.7? If so, you'll need to go through a few steps to put things right:
    Rename "iTunes Library.itl" to some other name;
    Copy newst ITL file from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder into your main iTunes folder and rename it to "iTunes Library.itl";
    Download iTunes 10.7: http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
    Download/install shareware app called Pacifist;
    Open Pacifist and, separately, mount iTunes DMG file -- drag iTunes PKG file into Pacifist and install iTunes via the Pacifist application -- be sure to answer yes to replacing everything Pacifist asks about;
    Enjoy iTunes 10.7.
    Cheers,

  • How do I get rid of Quizulous, and go back to what I had before?

I don't want this, and I can't figure out how to get back to what I had before.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • How do I go back to what I had before now that the free trial is over?

How do I go back to what I had before now that the free trial is over?

    Hi taxes1984,
Were you using a free trial of Acrobat Pro? What were you using before? Was it Adobe Reader? If so, it should still be on your computer, unless you deleted it (using the Acrobat trial would not overwrite Reader).
Please give us a little bit more information about what you were using pre-trial, and we'll help you get back there.
    Best,
    Sara

  • HT4859 i accidentally clicked restore when i meant to click back up on my iphone 5, is there any way i can undo that and go back to what i had before i clicked restore?

I accidentally clicked "restore" when I meant to "back up" on my iphone 5, is there anyway I can undo that and get back to what I had?

Once the Device is being Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Restore from the most recent Backup...

  • Why are my browser pages white. and why can't I change back to the theme I had before ?

I can't get my yahoo page or any other to change back to the theme I had for a background and it seems that all my web sites have a white theme and it will not change back. any page or web site that I go to is white, strange. Anyone know what is going on.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
and what it does. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
    '''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.

  • While working in multi camera editing in FCP X, having only 2 angles, after cutting for 30 minutes, the editing starts slowing down gradually until it becomes unbearably slow. Can someone tell me what is wrong?

This is the second time I am using the multicamera editing mode. The first time I used it with 2 angles of HD 720p and it worked perfectly. This time I am working with standard definition vodeo and is giving me this problem.

This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance.
Make sure you're using the latest version - FCP X 10.0.3 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.3.
First, check that you have at least 20% free space on the Hard Drive that your System and your Media, Projects and Events are on.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Check the spec of your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
Create Optimised media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
If you are short of drive space, use ProRes 422 Proxy (FCP X Preferences > Playback) - but remember to select 'Original or Optimised Media' just before you export your movie, otherwise it will be exported at low resolution.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot.
Move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD (make sure it's formatted OS Extended - with journaled on or off) and run from there.
Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences (under Playback) - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

  • HT4623 IF I DON'T LIKE IOS 7 UPDATE CAN I GO BACK TO WHAT I HAD BEFORE?

I updated my daughters ipad by mistake.  She doesn't like ios 7. Can i un-update her ipad?

Sadly, Apple has no approved method to downgrade the version of iOS on your iDevice. You can voice your displeasure with the iOS by leaving feedback at the appropriate subsection from the link below.

  • Hard Drives Access VERY slow. Can u pls advise what to check. THANK YOU.

If my MacPro is sitting idle for a few moments when I go to access one of the internal HD's, either one, it takes for ever to spin up and access. Most common is when I am in an application and use File/Open then have to wait at least 15 seconds for the drive/folder/file window to open.
Any ideas please. I'm at latest rev.
    Thank you.

Thank you smokerz, I've got the energy down to never and have just dragged the two HD's into Privacy, I'll post if this helps.

  • I am taking courses online and the newer version of firefox 4.0 isn't compatible with the java, which I use on my web page. And I need to go back to the older version of 3.614. How do I reverse to what I had before?

I need to get another version of firefox other than 4.0. due to the version not compatible or is unknown to the java I'm using on my web for online classes.

You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side.

There is something about it that makes my eyes burn. Change in font, colors, etc. I want to go back to what I had before. I liked it. I am sorry I downloaded this one.

Symantec have released an update for Norton 360 to make it compatible with Firefox 4, for details see http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
