Safari 4.03 don't start since update to Snow Leopard
I've just updated to Snow Leopard and now i have an error message when i want to start Safari 4.03 if i translate it in English :
"Impossible to open this version of Safari software with this version of Mac OS X.
You have Safari 4.0.3"
Did somebody have a solution ?
1. perform a software update, if it finds any go for it
2. if number 1 does nto apply, just reinstall your safari so you have to delete
Safari application
Safari receipt can be found in /library/receipts
safari plist
safari folder from /library/safari
trash the above items. insert your snow leopard disc then do an optional install.

After updating to Snow Leopard (to install Lion later), Safari and other aplications became super super slow and Preview is not working properly, I can't print anything that was opened with Preview. Already installed the Combo update, nothing happened, Safari still taking hours to load any site. I honestly regret downloading Snow Leopard, the older version worked so much better... Hope Lion is smarter than Snow Leopard...

'Open Recent' Not Working In FCP 6 Since Updating To Snow Leopard
Yes, I new I shouldn't of updated to Snow Leopard until they ironed out some wrinkles first, oh well.....
Anyway, I have noticed since updating the 'Open Recent' doesn't seem to work In my FCP 6, I remember Logic Pro doing the same thing a few years back and the word was to bin some kind of preference file?
Any ideas, CheersInstructions for Final Cut Pro 6. This might have changed in FCP 7.
Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up. If you have further problems, the backup can be recalled and you can continue working. -
Cannot access my WD NetCenter since updating to Snow Leopard
Hi there,
I'm updating the OS on both of my MACs. Since I have updated to Snow Leopard I can no longer access my WD NetCenter external drive, but I can on the MAC which has the previous version 10.5.8 Leopard. I can see the wd-netcenter in my SHARED location. When I try to access it I get ....The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Common” can’t be found.
I've been on NetCenter's support pages and can't find a solution. If anyone has one I'd appreciate it.
kind regards
RobertHi sanjampet,
It doesn't show-up on my desk-top; but it does appear in my Finder window. It appears as wd-netcenter under the SHARED location.
I select wd-netcenter to access the netcenter, it then shows all of my folders within the netcenter, but when I select the Connect As.. button, regardless of who I log in as or with what permission the following message appears: The operation can't be completed because the original item for "folder name" can't be found. -
Cannot connect to any IM clients since updating to snow leopard.
Hey Guys
I'm having a problem with my IM clients since updating to 10.6. I use Adium primarily and have Microsoft messenger through Office 2008 installed. Every time I try and connect to the servers I get a message in Adium telling me it has a connection error and Microsoft Messenger tells me I am not connected to the internet. I have tried other clients such as Pidgin and have the same issues and my MSN still works on my windows desktop. I am absolutely stuck with what to do. Adium support says that as it doesnt work on Microsoft messenger its nothing to do with them and its a issue on my side :S.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks for responding guys. I looked to see if their was a firewall option somewhere I could disable or make a exemption for but came up with nothing. Today I reinstalled snow leopard again and every thing seems ok now. I really am not sure what the problem was.
Thanks for your help anyway. this could help others in a similar situation. -
Movies won't play since update to Snow Leopard.
After updating from Tiger to Snow Leopard I can no longer play movies in iPhoto, I double click the movie but nothing happens. I imported one to iMovie & it plays OK there so what has gone wrong in iPhoto?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Carol.

Apps don't start since updated 10.8.5 today
i had a software update pending in AppStore which included a safety update and some other stuff for 10.8.5 today, which i did update and then restarted.
since then basically all third party apps except firefox don't work, they immediately crash after starting.

Apps blink but don't start since update to 5.0.1
After completing msync and backup and update to 5.0.1, many of my apps just flash when I touch them, instead of opening and starting. I've rebooted, I've done a hard reset. What now? Help!
Try downloading/installing any new app.

Pages 09 not printing graphics since updating to snow leopard
I've updated to 10.6.2 but I am unable to print templates with graphics to my Xerox 6520 DP printer. Reloaded the drivers but still not working. Will go ck with Xerox to see if they are issuing a new release driver or not. I tried opening a template within Pages and I get the same result of "error printing" no number along with it. Tried doing a save as PDf and get the same printing error. Anyone have any ideas?
Repair permission is something I do after a major installation. Do that.
Are you able to print from other applications, i.e. TextEdit?
If not, can you print from another account? You can create a new account from Accounts in the System preferences.
It might be the driver that needs an update but that is outside my knowledge. -
DNS odd problem since updating to snow leopard
Basically, I can't resolve hostnames on my local network except using dig. Here is an example:
+mackbook:etc mattboswell$ dig gateway+
+; <<>> DiG 9.6.0-APPLE-P2 <<>> gateway+
+;; global options: cmd
+;; Got answer:+
+;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 7203+

Ok, that works. But this does not:
+mackbook:etc mattboswell$ ping gateway+
+ping: cannot resolve gateway: Unknown host+
I know this is probably something simple but I'm not sure where to look.
Thanks,
MattOk, this is odd. There are names on the .local domain that I can resolve just fine, and others that I cannot. Example, there is a host called divaplug (it's a sheevaplug) that I can resolve ok, ssh divaplug or ping divaplug work just fine. There is another host called ubuntu-dev that will resolve with dig but ping or ssh require the trailing . to resolve.

Can't open or start new projects in Logic after updating to Snow Leopard
I've been having a few problems with Logic 9 since updating to Snow Leopard (10.6.8 ) a couple of days ago.
Every time i click on "new" and try and start a new project - logic freezes and i get the rotating circle sign and Logic stops responding - eventually i need to force quit and start again.
Existing projects seem to be functioning fine, although slightly slower than before.
Does anyone have any fixes for this?! Not being able to start a new project is quite a big problem!
Thanks
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Logic Pro 9.1.8 (32 BIT)The mistake was trusting only TimeMachine as your backup/restore.
If you had your users files also backed up to a external storage drive, or used a bootable clone (since they can be directly accessed) then you could have recovered just your files.
This is what I suggest you do since TM apprantly botched things.
1: Visit my user tip here and attempt to fix Snow Leopard in place, the purpose here is to get a booing machine so you can use a working Admin account to copy the user folder containing your files to a regular external drive.
I suggest #8 and #6, this will reinstall OS X over itself to fix it, then reset the User Password so you can hopefully log in.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
2: This method will also work, you install Snow Leopard onto a extenral drive and boot from it. This is probally a more safer choice than above, it's certainly less work, but it needs a blank external powered drive.
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
3: Once a copy of your users files is off, then your free to revert your machine back to Snow Leopard.
The ENTIRE drive must be selected and erased, to set the GUID, erase the RecoveryHD and EFI partitions.

Thanksopened from the tool bar and also directly from applications. Any more suggestions?
Can you start a new project, or are you saying you cannot launch DVD SP at all? If the later try deleting the preferences (since you are on the road, make sure you copy the preferences to someplace in case something goes wrong.) If it is the former, you may not be ablle to open the existing project if you took all the steps of clicking cancel etc., though the deleting preferences could possibly help if the preferences are corrupted and causing an issue when you are trying to skip files. (Would not count on that one though.) -
Updated to snow leopard. Printer no longer turning on.
Since updating to Snow Leopard, my printer (an HP DeskJet 5550) no longer turns on when I print over my wireless network via Airport Express. Not sure if this has something to do with the Express, Snow Leopard, or something else.
Any thoughts?I am having the same problem with an HP Laserjet 1150 connected to my Airport Extreme.

Two days I ago I installed 10.6.8 through Live Update. But, since then, I can't open Snow Leopard! Everytime I got the grey page and the request to reboot turning the Macbook off and then on. I could use Safe Mode, used Utility to repair all the processes and deleted any cache but nothing, tried a procedure of renaming the kernel found on the net and now I can't even open the Safe Mode. I don't even have here my Snow Leopard dvd! What should I do? Called the customer service twice but not that great help. Can I try to use another Snow Leopard dvd (i.e. from a friend of mine)? Should I format the partition and reinstall it? I'm really angry about this, got this Macbook since less than one year and it crashes after an autoupdate, probably forcing me to 700 km x 2 trip to get that dvd (and of course those of any other app I got?!)? Grrr.
... tried a procedure of renaming the kernel found on the net ...
If you've been doing things like that, you probably destroyed your system. You need the installation disc that came with the machine. Another one won't work, unless it's for the same model.
I'm really angry about this, got this Macbook since less than one year and it crashes after an autoupdate ...
It failed to boot because of incompatible third-party system modifications that you installed. We know that, because it started in safe mode. Then, instead of removing the modifications, which would have solved your problem, you did something that immobilized the machine completely. You should not have updated the OS without having an installation disc available, and you shouldn't be using a computer at all without backups. Apple can't protect you from the consequences of making bad choices. -
My iMessages don't work since updating. It says the Messages database is being upgraded, please wait while it finishes or Quit Messages and relaunch it later. How do I get them working again?
Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it and test after each of the following steps. If the problem isn't resolved, quit again and go on to the next step.
Step 1
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked
Keep login keychain unlocked
is not checked, check it.
Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select My Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them is marked with a red "X" as expired or invalid, delete it. Also delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name, whether valid or not.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to CRL.
Log out and log back in.
Step 2
Hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
Caches/com.apple.Messages
Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
Containers/com.apple.iChat
Containers/com.apple.soagent
IdentityServices
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in.
Step 3
Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place.
Step 4
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
com.apple.iChat
com.apple.ids
com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
com.apple.imessage
com.apple.imservice
Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post your results.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of Steps 3 and 4, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.
