Safari 4.1.3 cookies not staying set when safari is quit

Hi,
This post is a solution I couldn't find out there.
Problem: out of the blue, when i opened Safari 4.1.3 on Mac OS Tiger, I get the login EVERY time for email, forums, etc. even though I used to be able to check the "remember my account" button and not have log in every-time I started Safari. I have cookies set to "always accept" and "private browsing" turned off. But its like the cookies aren't being saved anymore for my safari session, and upon restarting Safari the next day, i was having to login to the websites every session.
Solution:
Look for your cookies.plist file. Mine lost the ability for my account to read/write to it. So I had to delete /Users/<myaccount>/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist (when Safari was not running). Restart Safari, it will recreate this file as a blank file. Permissions should now allow you to read/write the file.
This fixed my issue of having to login EVERY time I started Safari.
Hope this is helpful to someone our there!

Hi,
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Make sure: *User names and passwords* is selected.
Your passwords are stored in Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities). If you have problems logging in to a site, quit Safari. Launch Keychain Access. Select Passwords on the left. Delete the keychain for that site.
Relaunch Safari. Login to a site with your login data. When you see the dialog asking if you want to save that info to a keychain, click Yes.
If you still have problems, open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.keychainaccess.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.
See if that helps..

  • Use iCloud will not stay set to on in pages on my iPad mini

I cannot get the iCloud setting for pages to stay set to 'on'. It keeps resetting itself to "off". I have verified the wi-if connection, the account settings, checked for updates, confirmed sufficient storage space, and everything else I could think of. I also checked the settings in safari on my MacBook Pro.
Has anyone else run into this? It is very frustrating.

Problem solved! See Re: "Use iCloud" Pages/Numbers option won't stay turned on

  • Cgi.auth_user not staying set

I had CF8 running on iis7 and this used to work fine.  When a user logged into IIS7 with windows authentication, the cgi.auth_user variable would stay set the entire time they were in the particular folder that required authentication.
I just upgraded to CF10 and iis7.5 and now, when a user logs into a folder that requires windows authentication, the cgi.auth_user variable is set for just the page which required authentication, when they travel to the next page(s) via links, the cgi.auth_user variable is changed to NULL.
The entire folder is set to require windows authentication, but no cgi.auth_user value is set...
    Can anybody help?

Hey there, we're running into the same thing.
When you mean Server level, are you talking about the IIS Site itself?
    Sites->{site name}->Authentication->Windows Authentication = Enabled
We have that set, and it generally works... but then randomly doesn't and users have to reopen their browser.

  • How do I discover what, if any, cookies a website sets when I visit it?

Is there an easy way to estabish what cookies a website has set when I visit it using Safari?
Do all websites use cookies,or is it a decision at the desging stage to use them?
    thanks
    Steve

You just need to monitor your list of cookies before and after visiting the site. Of course, it is probably easiest to delete all cookies before performing the experiment.
Safari > Preferences > Privacy is where you can get access to all stored cookies.
And, yes, the cookie thing is a design decision, not mandatory.

  • Not staying on when plugged in and charging.

    Hi all,
I just switched from a Galaxy Nexus to the S4.  One thing I'm seeing that the screen doesn't remain on when plugged in via the micro-usb cord like on the Nexus.  Handy when I'm driving, and it wouldn't lock after the set time.  With the S4, I'm seeing it just turns right off when plugged in at the chosen turn off time selected.
I have a couple of stay on apps but since I forget things, I'm afraid I will forget to turn them off.
Is it possible to set it so it will stay on when plugged in?  If not, then I'll rely on the toggle to keep the screen on.
    Thanks for your help.

Shoot!  I forgot a step ... those options are hidden with the latest update.
settings > more > about phone
scroll down to Build Number and tap it five times
you should get a pop-up that says Developer Options Enabled
Back all the way out, then follow the instructions above.

  • DVD & Blu Ray Burner Drive Trays Do Not Stay Open When Media is in the Drive

I have a problem with both Windows 8/8.1 and the Windows 10 Technical Preview (there is no issue when I run Windows 7).
I have 2 optical drives: 1) DVD Burner and 2) Blu Ray Burner (I just got the second drive a few weeks ago). They are attached to the secondary SATA Chip (see below for specifics).
The problem I'm having is that when I eject media from either drive, the drive does not stay open, but rather immediately closes. Before I got the Blu Ray Burner, I had this problem with just the single DVD Burner by itself. I was hoping when I installed
Windows 10 Technical Preview that this problem would not be present, but it is present in that O/S as well.
This problem will repeat continuously if I attempt to use the eject button and so I either have to grab the disc while the tray is moving, or if I press the eject button again on the drive at the right time, I can get it to re-open and not close (this
is tricky to get the button timing right as it seems like it has to be done close to when the drive tray is fully extended when it starts retracting). It usually takes me 5 to 10 button presses to get it to stay open. Sometimes it will stay open for about
0.5 to 1s before it closes again, but most of the times it just immediately closes. I also have the same problem if I use the software eject feature by right clicking on the drive and choosing eject.
Of course, the expected behavior is that pressing the eject button should open the tray, but not close it immediately allowing you to remove the disc.
Here is some background information about my system and how the drives are connected:
    1. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-ED3P Revision 1.0 LGA 775
    2. Interface (for both drives): Gigabyte SATA II Chip - 2 x SATA 3 GB/s connectors (GSATA2_0, GSATA2_1) supporting up to 2 SATA 3 GB/s devices
    3. Memory: 8 GB (4 x 2 GB)
It should be noted that I tri-boot between Windows 7, 8/8.1, and 10 Technical Preview and that this issue is not present in Windows 7, but has always been there in Windows 8/8.1 and now it is present in 10TP as well.
I've had this system for just over 6 years now and it is still going strong. It should be noted that I have both drives on the secondary SATA chip (as identified above), which is meant to be used with removable SATA devices.
Since the problem exhibits itself in both Windows 8/8.1 and 10TP, a reinstall of the O/S will have no affect on this problem and so this appears to be some other issue that is consistent between Windows 8/8.1 and 10TP.
I'd appreciate your support in looking at this issue - thanks!

P.S. I also submitted this feedback through the Insider Program.

    Hey Zagayer,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
As you now have two optical drives in your Mac Pro, you need to be able to choose which drive to eject.  That is built into the system.  You just hold the Option key while tapping eject for the 2nd drive.
OS X Mountain Lion: Eject a disk
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10613
If your computer has two optical drives, hold down Option-Media Eject or Option-F12 to eject a disc from the second drive.
    Have a nice day,

  • Sound not staying muted when resuming from Sleep mode

The subject says it all. When I resume from Sleep mode the sound is not staying muted. I have found a third party app to get around this but I would rather solve it without having to run something else in startup.
I have a HP Pavilion dv7-2206tx Entertainment Notebook running Windows 7 with all the latest updates installed.
Anyone know how to prevent this from happening?

I'm sorry dude, but there is something wrong with you!! In every thread, you just ask or make lame @$$ statements.
cfr is a regular presence around here and helps quite a lot of people.  He was trying to get clarification so that your problem could be further debugged.  You may think that his statements are "lame ass" but you attitude is "asshole".  Don't come here looking for help and then tell those trying to help you that their help sucks.  If that is how you show your appreciation for support, you should go elsewhere.

  • I use line out sound but the sound does not stay on when I start up

I use external speakers with my Mac Pro.  However, since I upgraded to Yosemite (with latest upgrades), I have to use the desktop icon to turn on the sound every day.  Alternately, I can uncheck the mute box in Preferences.  Somehow, the mute button is set when I start up.  How can I keep the mute button off?

How long do you wait for the display to come up?  Can take several seconds during the boot process.  Have you tried a safe mode start by holding the shift key down during startup?

  • Persistent cookies not staying persistent!

I'm a web developer and I use cookies on some of my sites to add to the functionality, for example: In an e-commerce site remembering to display only [User selected amount] of products instead of [All the products ] at once, depending on what the user has chosen. However I've been noticing that cookies set to be persistent are being deleted or removed like if they were temporary cookies, even when Firefox’s settings are not set to do that. This is a troubling issue and I'm starting to feel it may be a bug? IE, Safari, and Opera work completely fine with the given example and to the best of my ability Firefox (3.6) is set up to be saving these type of cookies. I've only noticed this issue after updating to the newest version of Firefox so is this a known bug?

It probably takes less than a second to restore them because those cookies are opt-out cookies that are created by the TACO extension. Such cookies can only be removed if you uninstall that extension.
Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out (TACO): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/11073
<blockquote>TACO with Abine prevents over 100 different online advertising networks (including Google, Microsoft and Yahoo) from displaying highly targeted advertisements using the detailed information on your web surfing habits. TACO disables most behavioral advertising by setting 100+ permanent, generic, non personally identifiable "opt-out" cookies directly into the browser.<br>
    <br>
Unlike other opt-out solutions, this tool will make the opt out cookies completely persistent. That is, clearing the browser's cookies will delete all other installed cookies, except these.

  • Print page option will not stay set

On this vi, go to vi Properties page for Printing.
The checkbox at the bottom is the one I want set.  "Auto matically print front panel...."

    Why?

This vi is not finished, but is good enough to demonstrate the issue.

Interesting. This behavior looks like a bug. It's still there in 8.0.1.
As an alternative, you can use the "Auto Logging->Print at Finish" property for the VI, like this:
(Obviously, you want to change the node to "write" and wire in a Boolean constant.)

  • Audio Key frames not staying set

I have three pieces of Smartsound music in my video. I add keyframing (rubber banding) the audio to accomodate a voiceover. After I set the key frames ((about 20) I look back and they have all move positions. I've gone back a reset all the keyframes about three times and each time after I finish, the key frames are all in the wrong position. I have tried repairing permissions, as well as doing a "save as" in FCP...but the problem persists. Any suggestions?

Forgive me for saying it, but it sounds like possible user error ... certainly keyframes do not usually move all by themselves. But hard to guess exactly how or why these keyframes are moving.

  • My "Sort" settings do not stay set after I leave bookmarks.

When I go to bookmarks and then click on "Organize Bookmarks", I go to "Sort" and then select a particular setting like "Sort by Name." From the bookmark menu, I select a specific folder. Then I go to the left top middle icon with 4 horizontal lines, click on it and press "Sort by Name' and see all the folder name go into alphabetical order. However, when I close bookmarks it reverts to the "Unsorted" mode.

The Views menu in the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) is for displaying the bookmarks in different sorting orders (hence the name Views) and doesn't sort bookmarks permanently.
Make sure that you choose "Views > Sort > Unsorted" in the Bookmarks Manager if you want to sort bookmarks via the right click context menu (Sort By Name).
The option to sort bookmarks is only available for folders and not for individual bookmarks.<br />
Right-click a folder to open the context menu and choose "Sort By Name" in the left pane of the Bookmarks Manager or in the side bar to sort the bookmarks alphabetically or drag bookmarks to the wanted position. If dragging doesn't work then use Cut and Paste instead.

  • VTP Mode not staying set?

I was configuring a C3560-48PS for deployment in my new job and I asked my boss if he wanted to review my config before I setup a swap time. He did and came back to me stating I needed to set the switch to be a VTP client on suchandsuch domain. Hmm.. I thought I did that. So I con'd the switch, conf t, vtp mode client, vtp domain ABC123, ctrl-z. did a status on vtp, in client mode. great! So did a copy ru star and reloaded. Switch came up, just for grins did a vtp status. It's back in server mode (the switch is not currently on the network). Hmm.. So I inquired to my boss, he was puzzled and suggested an IOS upgrade. I loaded up the 12.2(25)SEE version. reloaded. attempt to set vtp to client again, saved, reloaded. and it's STILL saying it's in server mode. What the heck? This should be a fairly simple process. Any idea?

    Hello,
The default is VTP Server with a NULL domain. VLAN and VTP data is stored within the flash:vlan.dat file. If you change the VTP mode to client first, client's can't change VTP attributes per se. If you don't have a vlan.dat file in flash and you change vtp to client and then save - these changes will not be applied. However, while in default server mode, simply set the domain name, then save the config, verify you have a vlan.dat file - then you can make any changes you like (see attachment).
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    James
