Safari 4 Beta + Wiki Logins

We're experiencing a problem where Safari 4Beta users are having to reauthenticate to the wiki frequently, and the "remember me" checkbox is not being effective. Sometimes the users will have to log-in again after 2 page views, sometimes they get 5 or so, but then need to log in, all within the span of a few minutes.
Has anyone else experienced this? Switching back to Safari 3 seems to fix it.

Same problem here, both Safari 4 beta and Safari 3. And Firefox 3.

How-to: add instructions to the Apple Wiki login dialog

Here's an easy way to add some text to your wiki login dialog. I had to do this because at the school where I work, we have several sets of login credentials, and this allows us to instruct people what account they should use. You could really use it for anything though.
Add this code to screen.css inside your theme folder:

Switching back to safari 3 from safari 4 beta ....

swiching back to safari 3 from safari 4 beta
first of all , i'm switching to Mac when snow leopard being released , GOD willing ...
but i'm a web developer + designer , and i wan't the users visiting my site see it as i designed and developed on the Mac , thats my point , to get ride of the **** of IE ..... because these features really made many people love to use Safari on windows .... so i wonder why apple removing them from 4 !!!!!!!! now the point :
--- switching back to safari 3 from safari 4 beta and i got the coole feel again :
- safari native aqua form widgets .... ( maybe apple will get ride of Aqua and make a new set of widgets , but won't appear untill snow leopard released ) .......
- safari's native drop-down window animations, alerts ... ( like the one i am using now ) ...
- the pretty native round search box .... which feels to me how search box should be
- get the pretty lucida GR font to be used in safari again as the base font.... it was removed from safari 4 beta !!!!!!!!!
- got the pretty progress indicator again in
in the address bar.
- got the blue highlight for the address bar and the ( rounded ) search box in the toolbare ....

Safari 4 Beta

Ok, this may already be on here but one of the things I loved on Safari 4 Beta was the Tabs on top, I understand those are gone but when they were there it was easy to drag a full page onto another and make it a tab. I dont always want all my windows open to become one as tabs, Does anyone know if there is an EASY way to do this, like there was in the beta version?
Right now I either have to combine them all then drag the ones I dont want off or create a new tab so I can grab the one I want and drag it to the window I want it...

If there's a tab you don't want, just close the tab; no need to drag it off the window. And if you have another window open and want to put one of the tabs onto another window, just click and drag the tab onto that other window. You don't have to create the tab in the other window before dragging a tab onto another window.

Thai language support on Safari 3 beta

I just try Safari 3 beta for Windows. Its speed is impressed so far but big problem with Thai language.
- Thai word break is OK.
- Thai Tonal Marks and Vowels which display on the top of normal Thai character are still incorrect. They float improperly.
- Text smoothing is not so impressed when display Thai language.
Hope to see improvements.

Good to know. Arabic does not work properly either. And if one uses a Japanese system no Japanese text is visible.
I think Apple simply has left any support for foreign (non-English/non-European) languages beyond very basic unicode out of the first beta.

I'm still using safari 4 beta

Hi all,
I'm still using safari 4 beta because of the tab on top which i really like it alot
I've tried the official one before last month but turn back to the beta version till now.
In the official version it takes alot of cache that I think it store every page of site that I've visited into to the cache that can easily shoot over gigs within few days, yet this is not happening in the beta version.
Obviously things work differently in the official version now.
Seeing that it has been sometime already that now 4.0.2 patch just came out.
I was thinking am I in a danger zone still hanging on with the beta version
or do i have no choice but to update to official version and try to get used to the old tab bar style

If I understand your question, you mean the "top sites" feature...........
is there anyway to stop the webpage preview?
None that I am aware of. I have suggested that as an enhancement/change through the bug reporter.

Mail Crashes after installing Safari 3 Beta and

Last night (technically early this morning) I installed these three things at the same time:
Safari 3 Beta
Security Update 2007-006 (Universal)
Mac OS X Update (Intel)
Once I restarted my Mail.app would not launch. It bounces a single time and that is all.
Then I uninstalled the Safari 3 Beta using the "Safari3BetaUninstall.pkg" that came with the installer. That didn't solve the problem.
Since then after reading:

I downloaded Font Finagler and cleared my font cache. Restarted, no dice.
Then I reset my PRAM. Restarted, no dice.
Then I restarted in Safe Boot, and tried to launch Mail. No dice.
Then verfied disk permissions both while running osx from my hard drive and from the install cd. Both times it had some similar permssion errors that were fixed.
I also "verified disk" using disk utility from the osx install cd. It said it was fine.
Finally I tried reinstalling Mail and Safari from the "optional install" application on the osx cd. Still nothing.
Here is my crash log (It's actually longer than this... but it's just a repeat this information every single time I tried starting the application):

After reading what I just typed I tried launching ichat will not launch either. One bounce and that's it.

When I followed your path it was not MSN IM it was iChat.
I did run disk permissions after I installed 10.4.10. It found errors and corrected them.
So I followed Max's video tutorial and it all went swimmingly except it would not copy a subfolder entitled "versions." It said that "versions could not be replaced because it was in use"
Versions was in two places in the Archive folder I stripped from the Safari 3 Beta install package:
Archive/System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions
and
Archive/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/JavaScriptGlue.framework/Versions
I've also found versions folders all over my computer...
I replaced and/or copied all the folders over from Max's tutorial except the versions folders.
Mail and iChat still do not work. I'm a little nervous to restart.

How do I uninstall safari 4 beta?

I am a new mac user so any help would be appreciated. I have a new macbook. I downloaded and installed safari 4 beta and don't like the problems it causes. I can't access hotmail. I can get in but can't open any of the emails. I also can't click and open links in emails. I want to uninstall safari beta 4 but don't know how. I'd like to go back to the previous version. Any help would be appreciated and remember I'm a newbie mac user so be gentle!

That would normally work if there was a previous version installed. However, I deleted all my previous versions and the Uninstaller will not uninstall Safari since it can't find a previous version. I downloaded an earlier version 3.2.3 but it tells me that I have a later version installed and won't install 3.2.3. Furthermore, whatever version I bring up has concierge in its header line which I can't get rid of either. Finally, Safari continues to crash even after I reset it, delete whatever concierge items I can find on my computer, etc. Help is disparately needed. Fortunately, I am an old Firefox user, and now trying Camino and Opera but I would like help in figuring out how to use Safari. Thanks.

I can't get rid of the HT1222 (Safari Public Beta) Update

Every single time I look to see if any updates are available for my Mac, it always comes up with this Safari Public Beta Update. I have tried downloading it a couple times. Each time, it downloads, and installs something, but every time that I go back to software updates, it still comes up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have a link to the last Safari 4 beta? I want configurable options

I'm really annoyed that Apple removed the potential for setting preferences in Terminal.app for things like the progress bar (I liked blue better, and I could do it in the betas), tabs on top, etc. Now none of these are possible as far as I know. If Apple doesn't want everyone tweaking the UI, fine-then keep the preferences hidden as they were in the beta so that those of us who want to and know what we're doing can tweak it. What's up with this?

The latest version of Safari 4 is different in some respects than Safari 4 Beta. Hence, the uninstaller with the Beta would not work.
Do you have a bootable clone or Time Machine backup of your system prior to the S4 install? If not, your recourse is a reinstall of the OS via Archive and Install.
Regarding the tweaking process, I say give 3rd party developers, such as Tweaks some time to figure out a workaround. Help may be on the way.
Also, consider contacting the Tweaks developer about what you would like to see as a changeable option in S4.

Installing Safari 3 Beta casues Reply/Forward Bug in Mail

After installing Safari 3 Beta any Reply/Forward e-mail command opens new e-mail without original mail text content uncluded.
Attached files are forwarded, although.

What type of account(s) are you using -- POP, IMAP or .mac? I would like you to create a New User Account on your Mac, and as that New User set up at least one email account, and test for this behavior. If POP, do you leave the messages on the server for a while after downloading -- this would provide that you have messages with which to test, as the New User's Mail would again download those message that remain on the server. Also, if using POP, I would want you to quickly check to not allow the New User email account to remove any message it downloads, before you later can download them into your normal user account.

Also, open a message you have received and tried to Forward, click on View in the Menubar, place the cursor on Message and choose Raw Source. See of the text that has not come into the Compose window is ordinary looking, or itself in some sort of attachment?

IChat slowdown since installing Safari 3 Beta

iChat has slowed considerably since I installed the Safari 3 Beta. It sometimes takes 30 seconds to 1 minute for a message to appear. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas?
I haven't yet tried the uninstall and returning to Safari 2, because I really like a couple of the new features.
Thoughts?

Loved Safari 4 Beta....now I think i am going back to Firefox.

I am a long time Firefox user. When the Safari 4 beta came out, I tried it and finally thought I would be using Safari and enjoy it. Now, with this final release, it is slower, the tabs are back on top, the overall appearance is not as appealing as the beta...etc. I think I may go back to Firefox. Why did Apple screw this one up?

I agree with the loss of speed. On my MBP, Safari is just limping along. Load times are clearly longer...
I am pleased to see that "Clear recent searches" is back but not happy with the stupid spinning "loading" icon. I much prefer the blue URL/progress bar thing from the past, because it actually imparted information to me. The spinning icon does nothing... And isn't it weird that this never appeared in the Beta release? Isn't that what betas are for? To test things?
Also, I still mourn the move of the refresh button. From my perspective that is a part of the navigation and as such, should be up there with the other buttons...not in some other location.

Get Safari to open at login

I got my safari to open at login , but it won't. On the icon itself it has the "mark" open at login....I restarted the computer, but still won't open automatically when I get in to my account. Thanks in advance for the help/

When you 'Open at login' I think Safari always opens the application without a window open.
To get around this, go to your homepage and using the blue globe/icon to the left of the website address, drag the address onto your Desktop to create a shortcut.
Once you have a shortcut to your homepage, drag that into the 'Login Items' under your account preferences (or add it to your Dock on the right-hand side and choose 'Open at login' for the shortcut.

Safari Crashes/Beta 3 Uninstall Problems

Hi guys, unfortunately Safari has been causing me a lot of problems lately, and I can't quite figure out what the cause of it is. I've been looking at the past threads trying to figure out if I have the same problem as someone else, but I don't think I do.
When I try to get on Safari, the page pops up and loads the apple home page like normal. But a few seconds later, if I even try to click near anything on the page, Safari crashes and disappears without an error report or anything.
I figured I would just uninstall the beta, and go back to the older version, but when I try to uninstall the beta, it freezes while trying to do so.
I'm not sure what I should do or try, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
On one last note, how would I uninstall Safari manually? Just by removing everything? Sound like a stupid question, but I don't want to mess anything else up.

Welcome to Apple discussions.
If I understand you post, you began having problems after installing the Safari 3 beta (IMHO a bad mistake - beta=bugs).
There is a special forum for people with similar problems.
There is supposedly an uninstaller that was part of the Safari 3 beta download. I would also run repair disk from your software install DVD to clean up directory problems.
If I were you, if the above does not work, I would do an archive and install (after backing up, of course):

In that way, you would have a pristine copy of OS X (you would, of course, have to update from there) while retaining your files, programs, and settings.
