Safari 4 blocking internet access

When I try to access an URL that's wrong or doesn't exist Safari will block the internet access for my whole computer, Spotify, all other browsers, Mail etc.. stops getting access to the internet. Only solution is to restart Safari, and the internet access will pick up again immediately. Does this happen to anyone else out there as well?

Hi, Juke.
I'm afraid I'm a dummy, and don't know how to do this. I'm sure as April 8 approaches, a lot of people with important DOS or XP apps will be wanting to insulate their XP VM from potential hacking while still running programs locally.
  Thanks -- Dave K.

  • WRT1900AC does not block internet access in Parental Control

Hi,My router does not block internet access on my other PC. I tryed "Always" tryed specific addresses, tryed IP addresses and everything tech support suggested. I even replaced the router at their advise. Nothing helped. I realize that the problem is not the router but probably my home network configuration, but I can't figure out what is it. To my defence, so couldn't they Does anybody have or had such a problem?Thank you

  • WRT54Gv3 Looses/Blocks Internet Access

After installing version 4.21.1 of the Linksys frimware on my router WRT54Gv3 it will loose and/or block access to the internet. It will do it at random times usually weeks apart. All the lights on the router look normal, my modem still shows a connection to the router. My computers will connect to the router wired or wireless and I can also login to the config page of the router. Visually everything looks fine. Power cycling the modem and router does not fix the problem. I have to perform a factory reset on the router before it will work again. Is anyone having this problem with v4 or below of the WRT54G router after installing 4.21.1 of the linksys firmware? My friends router does the same thing and he has v4. I have v3.
    Thanks

Well my router has always had the default IP address.
I also noticed that when the internet is being block that i can use the diagnostic tab and get a response using ping and perform trace routes.
I can also release and renew my IP info from Comcast's DHCP Server.
I've never had a signal issue with the router. I'm always able to connect to it using a wireless or wired connection. I connect successfully to the router it's that it blocks access to the internet to all the connected computers.
I'm at a loss and so it seems with Linksys tech support. I had a chat with them and they made me do a factory reset then update the firmware and then perform a factory reset again. They felt that the firmware may have been somehow damaged when I previously updated the router. I feel like my router will start blocking internet access again by the end of the month. If not I'll let you know if resetting, flashing, and resetting thing worked.

  • SAFARI SLOWING INTERNET ACCESS

I have had appalling difficulty loading webpages via my useless ISP (UK supplier 'THREE' who do not have enough bandwidth to cope with their users. They have been claiming for three months that their really, really bad coverage has been due to a fault in my local mast which they never got around to repairing - until now. They finally claim they have repaired the fault and there should be an improvement in coverage.
BUT, I see no meaningful improvement in coverage and when I found I couldn't log into banking webpages etc owing to them taking too long to load or just being dropped, I telephoned the THREE ISP.
They then went through a rigmarole of clearing out cookies on my safari browser and asking me to remove all the contents of the autofill window and telling me to install file clearing out software from HIPPO website to keep Safari from being clogged out with unwanted files because they slow down sfari and slow down webpage loading.
I am irritated at losing all the autofill info so I have to enter passwords every time I load a regular webpage and it doesn't make any sense that using autofill makes your computer more and more useless at acessing the internet
Is this correct ? Do cookies and autofill items slow down webpage loading ?
Or is all this a load of rubbish for them to try and con me into accepting they have improved their coverage so they can start billing me again ?
Does Safari need  clearing out because it gradually slows down internet access ?

Just out of curiosity, does this problem only occur immediately following a re-boot?
The next time you encounter the problem, close Safari, launch IE, access a website, launch Safari and then see if you can access the net from Safari.
The problem you described has occured to me a couple of times on XP - only after a reboot. If I launch IE, then go back to Safari, it runs just fine. Still tinkering with it to try to track down more specifics.

  • Block internet access by MAC address all the time

I want to be able to block MAC addresses from accessing the internet but allow them to use the network.
I can do this in other router interfaces but the BT Home Hub 2.0 has a VERY un user friendly interface and will not allow advanced internet access or other settings to be modifyed to suit my needs.
I am at an intermediate level at understanding network equipment and an expert at residential networking.

Not sure about the home hub 2, but on the home hub 1 you can use a "user defined" firewall setting to block access to a computer by specifying its IP address.
    Source LAN
Interface 192.168.1.xxx  (address you wish to block)
    Destination WAN
    Service ANY
    Action Deny
You can tell the home hub to always use this IP address for the device you are trying to block.
There is probably a similar setting on the home hub 2.
By default I block all Internet access for devices, then I have rules to allow HTTP, HTTPS, POP3 and a couple of others.
    I also have UpnP disabled.
This prevents any computer on the network accessing any non-standard ports.

  • WRT54GS Blocking Internet Access

    Hi,
I have a WRT54GS router that constantly blocks the internet access.  Any computer (Mac or PC) is able to access the wireless network, however, no internet signal is passed through the router.  I know the internet signal works because you can connect directly to the cabel modem and the internet works fine.  When the router is connected to the modem the internet light on the front of the router blinks (as if there were data being transmitted), but still no internet access availabe.
I have tried unplugging and fully restarting both the modem and the router in every order and combination possible with no success.  The only way I can solve this problem is to leave both the modem and the router unplugged for 24 hours and then plug them both back in.  This problem/blockage only seems to occur when the router has been inactive for 2 or more days (when I leave out of town or something).
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jordan

    Start with restting your router...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • VPN and Exchange server blocks internet access

i had some difficulty configuring Entourage to connect to an Exchange server after establishing a VPN. When the VPN was up, but the Entourage was not working, I could use Safari or any other web access without problems. After getting the Entourage account running, it was populating the folders for what seemed like hours, so i wanted to do other things while waiting. Safari and AOL would not connect. Apparently Microsoft has figured out another way to mess with you on a Mac. Anyone had this problem?

It turns out that it's the VPN that is blocking web access. The first time I configured it a couple of months ago, it connected, and I could do whatever I wanted. When I tried to use the VPN the other day, all my settings had been erased for some reason and I had to reconfigure. It connected, I got into Entourage, used it, but when I tried to go to a web site Safari wouldn't connect. I closed Entourage, no dice. Today I connected without going into Entourage and Safari wouldn't connect. Without the VPN, Safari behaves itself. I have a PC upstairs with the same VPN and it allows use of your browser.
I connected to a different VPN host and still no browser on the Mac. Can not figure out what has happened.

  • How to block internet access for RDS and RemoteApp users?

    Hi everyone,
This question might partially belong to security forum but I think anyone using RDS services comes across this. I would like to TOTALLY block all internet access including "updates" to any software, windows updates, anti-virus updates, TCP, UDP,
or ANY other protocol out of the server. I would like to only allow traffic both ways for established traffic (e.g. accessing the remote apps).
How can I achieve this without involving a third party firewall software?

  • HDTV blocks Internet access?

    Hello all,
When my 2009 Mac mini is connected to an Apple LED display, I can connect to the Internet through my Airport Express.
But when I connect the same Mac mini to a Panasonic HDTV (via HDMI), I can't get online!
(If I bypass Airport Express with a direct Ethernet connection between the cable modem and the Mac mini, Internet access is A-OK.)
Has anybody else had this problem?
Any help would be much-o appreciated!

Try AirRadar, on the net free trial, and see what your signal strength is relative to the tv. Not sure that will prove useful but may be the start of answering your question.
Recently learned about signal to noise ratios. Found in AirPort utility-Manual Setup-Advanced-Logs and Statistics.

  • Safari blocks OS-access to internet?

When I start Safari, I cannot connect to anything at the Web. No error message, just blank pages. Other browsers work fine.
It started when I joined .Mac; the connections worked fine at my work computer. However, at this (home) computer I get the message "cannot log in to the synchronizing server of .Mac", when I click the syncronize-tab at my computer. When trying iDisk, it cannot connect. The advanced_tab give a similar error message.
Also, I cannot do any Updates - a similar error message.
All these things at once - does anyone have suggestion on what this is?

    Dear Jcarvaja,
I have entered the above code but it still doesn't work. I think the problem is in the firewall and not in the CSC.

It seems that the firewall blocks any internet https access and I don't know why.
I have also checked the https access directly to the router and it works OK, so the problem is for sure within the ASA.
    ASA version is 8.44-K8
    CSC SSM version is 6.3.1172.0
Any ideas of how to resolve this?

  • Blocking internet access

I'm trying to stop my daughter from accessing sites like facebook, during certain times of the day.
I have a netgear router that I can type in keywords like facebook and twitter, and this works great with IE but will not work with safari or any apps on the ipad.
They must access the internet through another port or the like, and whilst I know this is not a netgear forum, why do they work differently, what can I do.  I cannot fix the IP address, and I cannot change the router for any apple device as they do not contain an adsl router.
    Thanks

  • Firewall Blocking Internet Access

Looking for suggestions to solve this problem. Multiple computers in my home will suddenly be unable to access the internet. Turning the firewall off for a few seconds, then back on will eliminate the problem on each computer affected. This problem seems to have shown up after the last security update, but not immediately. When unable to access the internet, if I look at the network system pref, it lists an ip address of 167.xxx.xxx.xxx. After toggling the firewall, I will get my normal 10.0.0.x back.
The issue seems to manifest a couple times per day, and almost certainly if the computer goes to sleep or is restarted. It happens on both my desktop and my laptop running 10.5.8, but not on a g3 imac running 10.4.11.
If I look at the firewall log I see multiple messages about "Firewall[90]: Deny mDNSResponder data in from...." These show up constantly about every 30 seconds or so. I am guessing this may have something to do with the issue as I do not see these messages in the G3 imac's log file.
Network is set up with a time machine with three macs (one g3 imac running 10.4.11, a G4 MDD running 10.5.8 - both wired connections, and a G4 ibook running 10.5.8 (wireless) as well as a couple network printers, dish, slingbox, a linksys switch etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as this is getting very annoying. Thanks.

I'm sorry, I said time machine and meant time capsule. The time capsule is set up as the router, and the linksys device is only a network switch. The modem is capable of functioning as a router also, but I just verified it is only functioning as a high speed modem (according to my isp). I have tried restarting and reconfiguring the time capsule, but it has not seemed to affect anything. It seems to me data goes out (ie to printer or network drive or internet), but does not come back.
Also, I have switched locations of the G4's and the G3 and get the same result.... the G3 always works, the G4's only work when their firewalls are toggled off. I have at this point tried reinstalling a 10.5.8 combo on the laptop to no avail. I think I might just do a clean install of OSX from CD and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

  • Block internet access in accounts?

    Hi
I'm trying to make one account where I can use the web, and one where I can't use the web. But everytime I deactivate the Airport the other account remembers it.
Is there a way to make it work?

Are both these accounts Admin accounts?
Have you tried making a New Location with Airport OFF yet?

  • Restrict wireless internet access on certain periods of time

    Hello,
We need help on setting up a network with some restrictions for the attached clients.
We're quite new at setting up a network at this size.
    Used devices:
    1x SRP 540 router
    1x SG 300-10P managed switch
    4x AP 541N accesspoint
    What we want to do:
    1. Around 100 laptops and desktop computers need wireless internet access, but some of them on limited times during the day.
    2. Not all wireless devices are allowed on using the wireless network.
    3. There are also wired desktops that don't need restrictions.
    4. We need the possibility to restrict most of the wireless devices to access certain websites or use certain applications on those computers to use internet access during the times that the computers are allowed to access the internet.
    5. We want to restrict the clients for using torrents or other possibilities of downloading illegal content.
What we were able to do:
    1. The accesspoints (AP 541N) are clustered to achieve 1 large wireless network.
    2. Only mac-adresses that are listed in the accesspoints are capable of using the wireless network. Other mac-adresses are not allowed to use the accesspoints.
    What we tried already:
    1. adding the mac-adresses for the accesspoints to the list of "internet access policy" in the router. Internet access seemed still possible during periods the access wasn't supposed to be possible.
    2. adding the mac-adresses from all clients in this internet access policy seemed useless. Only 10 Internet Access Policies seem to be possible to program. 8 mac-adresses per policy. Knowing there are (at least) two policies needed to restrict a group of 8 macs to access the internet in 24 hours (because blocking the internet from f.e. 22u in the evening to 6 in the morning is not possible because 6 is smaller than 22 - or 10PM).
Besides, after blocking internet access, we need also to write policies in blocking some websites or keywords.
    Thanks already for your guidelines.
    Wim

what about the thoughts of radius for authentication which is connected to active directory for your wireless users. Then have those people you must limit access too during the day in their own security group that's only allowed to login to the domain during certain times of the day.
To limit sites or what they can do on the Internet will require a separate solution for content/URL filtering. Then you can make policies and apply to your security groups in active directory block by category, keyword, and so on.
This is all great assuming you can get these clients into AD.
Just a quick thought, hope it helps.
