Safari 4 can't open Apple Home Page?

Starting yesterday when Safari 4 top sites page showed me a star on the Apple Home Page thumbnail, I go to www.apple.com and get a "Slow Script" error message telling me that S4 is no longer responding for that reason. What's up with that?

Several times a day I get this message "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.apple.com/” because the server where this page is located isn’t responding."
Is it me, or is there something horrifically wrong with Safari? And before anyone asks, yes, I did restart/update/reload/redownload/delete cache/toss plist/start completely over...
...I've had so much trouble with this computer it's ridiculous. I've wiped it clean and restarted from scratch so many times it's wrong...

  • When I left-click the home button, how can it open my home page in a new tab?

I thought it used to do that. I had to do a clean install of Windows, I believe I was only on FF 22 or 23 when this happened. Now I'm on FF 26 and obviously all my settings are gone.
I'm 99% sure that when I left-clicked on my home button, it opened my home page in a new tab. I know I can middle-click to get that affect, but it used to be left-click and I do that automatically now. But I don't want to lose the current window I have up, so something's wrong.
Anyone know how to fix this? Or an add-on to do this?

If you hold down the Ctrl key while left clicking the Home button then the home page opens in a new tab.<br />
You can also middle-click the home button like you can with any other link

  • Can't open Yahoo home page

Since updating to 10.4.6 a few days ago, I cannot access yahoo.com with Safari. I'm not even sure the events are related. All other sites work fine & even all other pages on yahoo work fine just yahoo's home page will not load. Safari stalls & displays "Server could not be found". I have also tryed IE with exactly the same results. I am on Earthlink DSL wired direct to my G5 through an Airport Extreme. Also very strange is that I have not updated my other computer (iMac G5) to 10.4.6 yet, it's still on 10.4.3 & is wireless to the Airport but that computer cannot access Yahoo.com either, all other sites work fine. We lost the access at the same time. Is it possible that it is a problem with my ISP? It's been about 5 days since the problem first started. I reset Safari, emptied the cache, cleared the history, deleted the Icon folder; all this did not help. I did "ping" the site & it's there. Any ideas? I've read here of similar problems & folks report that the problem just corrected itself after awhile. Maybe I should just wait & my day will come too.

Close to what we have for a set up, Elink DSL, w/AEBS wireless iMac intel &
    PB Tiger (10.4.6) & Panther10.3.9 w/ ethernet connection , all 3 can
access Yahoo, Did Yangs link work for you, if not perhaps you need to

The 2 wireless & ethernet computers connected have these settings below.

Please help me to resolve this issue.

I've had exactly the same problem on Solaris but unfortunately haven't been able to get it to work.
Does anyone know what the problem is and how it can be resolved ?

Deselect:   Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps.

    Thanks!

    Please do the following.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL, change the setting at the top to '''Everything '''and then in the menu below, checkmark "Cache" (uncheck all the others). Then click the "Clear Now" button.
Next go to Tools | Options | Advanced | Network (tab) and in the Offline Storage menu, click the "Clear Now" button.
In the Tools | Options | Advanced | General (tab) menu, uncheck "''Tell websites I do not want to be tracked''" if it's enabled.
Next, go to Tools | Options | Privacy and then click the "Show Cookies" button. Then delete all the Yahoo cookies.
Finally, go to File | Exit and then restart Firefox again.

  • Safari won't open Apple home page last 2 days!

I hav an pad original with 5.1.1. iOS and latest safari for iOS 5.1.1.
When I go to the Apple page  I instantly get alert:
"Safari cannot open the page because of  too many redirects."
I turrned off iPad fully, Restarted it but no help. I can view Apple.com with other browsers BTW no problem.
Any thoughts? Apple care is stumped. As am I.
    Thanks
    Steven

I am still using Snow Leopard so this fix doesn't work for me as there is no option to restore windows when quitting (I currently cannot upgrade to Lion as my memory isn't sufficient). Since dowloading 5.1, whenever I launch Safari it opens with a blank window instead of my homepage - plus it's VERY hit and miss as to what page I'm going to get when I open a new window or tab.
Any ideas or will I have to go back to OS 10.6.7 just so I get have my browser opening at my homepage?

  • Netflix just 'hangs' and won't even open the home page, although if i log in as a guest then I can access it.

Netflix won't even open the home page to let me register and just hangs for ages. I have the same trouble on both safari and firefox but have updated both anyway. I'm guessing this is an 'identity' issue because if I log in as a guest on my own laptop I can open the netflix site, although there are all sorts of parental controls on there that I can't seem to override!
I have un-installed silverlight, tried again but no luck.
I re-installed silverlight. Still no luck
It's not a disaster as I'm still able to watch on my ipad, however it's annoying me and I like a mystery to solve!
    any ideas?

A password reset would certainly be a good idea. However, it could be an iCloud issue. If you Mac matches your user password to your Apple password, it could be that when you initially start up, you don't have an internet connection...
Logging in as guest gets you connected, thus being able to authenticate. So when you change it, either make sure it's stored locally, or run some diagnostics on wifi connection upon startup. Out of interest, are you connected at the login screen (top right next to the time will tell you)?

  • Apple home page and some other sites won't load via Safari.

Apple home page (and other sites) will not open in Safari.  Randomly, others will, especially those saved as bookmarks.  I've reset Safari, cleared the cache, verified the DNS - no luck.  Wifi works fine for other devices.  Mac OS 10.5.8/Safari 5.0.6.  Any suggestions?

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items.  Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site.

  • Can not open any web page in Safari

can not open any web page in Safari on the IPad.  All other wireless features work fine.

If this does not work then try a reset ,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad  will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back.

  • My macbook air won't load.  Says start up disk is full but I can't get the home page to open

My Macbook air won't load.  Says the start up disk is full but won't open the home page so I can do anything about it

    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.

  • Safari will not open to home page

I down loaded Lion and now Safari will not open to home page and preferences are set for home page?

Thanks, At least I know I am not the only one. I have had nothing but problems down loading Lion. First I did not have enough memory so I spent $128 for up grade to 4 GB. Then I down loaded Lion and it crushed my disc and spent another $181 to up grade to a T1. Then down loaded Lion to find out a lot of bugs with it. For what was to cost me $29.95 end up costing me $339.
You would think I would learn by now not to up grade at once. I am one of the dummies that spent $699 for the first iPhone for them too drop the price weeks later.
If I figure out answer I will post for you asap.

  • How can I set home page for a new tab? how can i get firefox to open the home page every time i open a new tab in Windows vista home basic??

How can I set home page for a new tab? how can i get firefox to open the home page every time i open a new tab in Windows vista home basic??
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
    See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
To have new tabs open a specific web site, add one of the following extensions:
    http://sogame.awardspace.com/newtaburl/
