Safari 4 - how do I disable RSS ?

I've just recently upgraded from the (awful) Safari 3 to Safari 4. Mostly I find 4 very good indeed. However there's one thing that's driving me completely demented.
At regular intervals I get a dialogue asking me to "Enter your name and password to update the RSS feed." It's always for Twitter. It tells me I need to login.
Here's the stupid part. One : I don't use or want RSS updates. I've lived without them for years and I have no desire to start using them now. Two : I'm permanently logged in to Twitter !!! I'm being asked to login to something I'm already logged in to !!!!
How do I disable this stupid pop up? I've looked through Safari Preferences but can't find it anywhere. This didn't even exist in Safari 3.
Please help : this stupid dialogue is driving me round the twist. It arrives without audible warning, so if I didn't notice it, I've typed a load of stuff into the dialogue instead of where I was typing. I wouldn't mind so much, if it was possible to switch it off. HOW DO I SWITCH IT OFF????

Thanks Andy. That link shows a lot of people are seeing this Twitter problem! It's a good job I don't want to use RSS or setting the Safari Preference to 'never' would disable RSS completely, right?
Anyhoo, I've now set it to 'never', and if the pop up doesn't appear in the next hour or two I will mark this topic Solved

  • How to permanently disable this message: "Press Esc to exit full screen." (by Adobe Flash Player) in Mac's Safari Browser?

    Hello everyone,
I have been searching for sometime (without any success) for a solution to permanently remove this annoying message: "Press Esc to exit full screen."
Whenever I go to full screen mode, watching any video on YouTube, BBC, CNN (or many other websites which use Adobe Flash Player for streaming video) I have to bare seeing this message for several seconds until it fades away. Seeing this message once or twice would have been okay, but as we all watch many videos on a daily basis on internet, after weeks, months and now years seeing this message over and over again many times every day, it becomes very annoying, and I find myself rewinding many videos to their beginning after this message fades away to be able to watch it from the beginning without anything obstructing it!
Does anyone know how to "permanently" disable this message from appearing?
I am using the latest version of Safari 6.0 on the latest version of OS X (Mountain Lion 10.8.1), and have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (Plug-in version 11.4.402.265) installed on my new MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display.
    Thanks,
    Ally

    Thanks Carolyn,
I am attaching a screenshot here for you to see that this setting was already set to what you suggested. I didn't need to change it as it was like this even before I post this message.
So the problem still presists and unfortunately your suggestion is not a solution to this probelm.
Last night I did more reseach and found a discussion in Adobe website, it seems a lot of other people have the same issue, and even started a discussion in Adobe website about it. But unfortunately Adobe refuses to address it and enable the end user at least to have an option to turn this message off from displaying permanently on his/her computer.
I am writing down the url links for the two posts regarding this issue on Adobe's website:
    Link #1: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/921270
    Link #2: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3058752
Hopefully more people will get involved and ultimately we will either get Adobe's attention, or someone will find a "hack" and post it here for all of us. I have found some suggested "hacks" for Windows environment (you can simply google it, I am sure you will find them too). But so far I haven't seen anything for Mac's Safari browser.
    Cheers,
    Ally

  • How do I disable the automatic google search in Safari

How do I disable the automatic google search mechanism in Safari 6.0.
When I type a url (or modify an existing one) if Safari doesn't understand/like what I type it does a Google (or whatever) search automatically.
If I have misspelled something, or made a typo, I want to know about it -- not have some twit program tell me what it thinks I wanted to know.
This is the same problem which exists for ISPs (and I realize that Apple is trying to grab the advertising dollars THEY get when you type in a bad URL).
I simply want to be able to turn OFF this "feature."
I also note that with this change it is no longer possible to select any search engine BUT Google. Annothe "feature" which I find utterly descriminating. There are many times when I want to see the results from different search engines -- as they all return different results, probably 90+% of the time.

There's not really a way to disable that feature, apple decided it would be easier for customers to have the address bar and google search bar all in one.

How do I DISABLE Safari search history function in iPhone4?

Thank you for the swift answer. I find it amazing that Safari/iPhone developers haven't considered such basic privacy/security issues. Can't help but wonder if it's a cultural thing (Americans and their curious views on the concept of privacy).

How can I disable the tabs on safari on my ipad2. I hate the tabs!!!

You can't, Safari on iOS 5 on the iPad uses tabbed browsing. You can try leaving feedback for Apple and maybe in a future update we'll get the choice of tabs or thumbnail/paged browsing : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
In the meantime I think that the (free) Opera browser and the iCab Mobile browser in the app store offer thumbnail browsing to some degree.

When I launch Safari I get a bell sound (ding) how do I disable this?

I'm getting this bell sound. It's not a system sound, more like a cash register 'kerchinggg'. I recently changed my home page, but Ican't see any reference to it on the new page "www.broadsheet.ie'.
I'm not sure if it happens every time. For instance, deleting the cache, quitting Safari and relaunching doesn't bring it up.
