Safari 4 no longer connects to Internet after installing

The Software Update automatically installed Safari 4. Now, Safari 4 errors with "Safari can't connect to the server" regardless of what address (both alphanumeric and numeric) I type in and iTunes errors with "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was refused."
However, Firefox is able to access the World Wide Web and I'm still able to access files on my Windows computers on my network.
I've already:
1. Repaired permissions with Disk Utility
2. Tried Safari in a new user account
3. Removed the preferences file
4. Cleared the caches
5. Deleted .com.apple.safari.plist
6. Emptied the trash and restarted the computer
But it still cannot access the Internet. I don't see any option to uninstall Safari 4 and go back to Safari 3.

HI Raymond,
Try using Open DNS.
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
If OpenDNS doesn't work for you, download the 10.4.11 combo update available here.
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html
Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Problems connecting to internet after installing Leopard

I have been having problems connecting to the internet after installing Leopard. I have a G5 at my office and use safari and AOL, using a cable modem and router. Everything worked perfect until I installed Leopard. About 3 days after installing Leopard on my G5 I started having problems connecting to the internet. When opening "network" in preferences it tells me I am connected, but I cannot connect. So I have to restart my computer every time in order to connect. Then to top it off, often in the middle of the day I am able to get and send e-mail with AOL, but my Safari does not connect. And even more bizare, if I am connected and sign off my AOL, I lose Safari as well. Brought the G5 into the Mac store and after trying some stuff they told me "it should work now" but ....same problems. So last Monday, I installed Leopard on my Macbookpro which I use at home wirelessly, everything worked well until yesterday when the same issue with my G5 is happening with the macbookpro. No connection, it tells me I am connected, signal is strong, but nothing.....so restart and keep going. What is going on? Anyone else having same problem? Any solutions
    Roberto

    Roberto,
Is the install of Leopard on the G5 and MacBook Pro an upgrade install or a clean install?
Try some simple maintenance to see if this resolves it:
    1. Run Repair Disk Permissions (Disk Utility)
    2. Go to Network Utility and go to Ping enter in www.cnn.com and see if the packets are received/sent. This is just to see if you can get to the outside so to speak
    3. See if your cable modem manfacturer has a leopard upgrade. Sometimes hardware companies need to upgrade their firmware when new Operating systems come out

  • Can no longer connect to Photostream after installing Photos

Photos has deleted my iPhoto Photostream and Shared photos sidebar items.
iPhoto can no longer connect to iCloud photos. Does anyone know if this is because the Photos app has made this feature incompatible now? I am concerned I'll not be able to get access to this feature again. It's a big worry!

Same thing here on all my devices. Basically it seems like there is a web page that the device attempts to connect to confirm internet connectivity after joining a WiFi network which seems to now be a bad link.

  • Ipad no longer connects to internet after using remote app for apple TV

I can use the Remote app on my Ipad to connect to Itunes library through my apple TV but as soon as I do that, I can no longer connect to the internet on my Ipad.  The network stays connected on my Ipad but no internet.  I have to recycle the router (airport extreme) and power off the Apple TV.  Once I do that I can then connect to the internet again.  I am using a Mac Pro as my desktop with airport extreme as my router.  All software is up to date.  Appreciate any thoughts anyone might have.  Its a pain to use that litte remote for my Apple TV.

My question: Is it normal for the internet connection to switch from an Apple Network to another network?
    No.
You are probably connecting to a neighbor's wireless network. Unplug your base station and see if the network remains.

  • Safari will not connect to Internet after Mountain Lion update

    Please help!!!
I recently updated to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and for a few days, everything seemed to work well & seamlessly!
However, on starting up my MacBookPro today, I cannot connect to the Internet.
I continually receive the error message "Safari can't connect to the server"
I have run diagnostics and my connection is fine, with a full wifi signal.
My iPad, iPhone & iPod all connect perfectly and my router has been unchanged and untouched!
I'm not the most computer-literate person in the world but would appreciate any possible help and advice!
    My MacBookPro has the following:
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software: OS X 10.8 (12A269) Mountain Lion
    Many thanks!!!

When I try and open it, windows puts up a box saying that windows 7 has a problem with Safari and will not open?
Fingers crossed, your Windows 7 will have been recording some additional information about those.
First, open your Action Center and expand "Maintenance". Click "View reliability history":
Once the reliability report has been generated, look for Critical events for Safari generated at the time of the "Safari has stopped working" messages. Doubleclick the name Safari in the critical events. (Don't click View solution.) Here's a screenshot showing what to doubleclick:
You should see something that looks like the following screenshot:
Copy and paste the contents of the problem report into a reply here. For example:

  • Safari can't connect to internet after upgrading to yosemite

I just updated my early 2009 iMac to Yosemite from the latest version of Mavericks and now Safari, Mail, and Software Update can't connect to the internet but Chrome can (that's how I'm asking this). My internet connection is working, just not for Apple applications. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I expect to face the same problem at my (late 2013 model) MacBook Pro Retina running WIFI only. Safari doesn't open any web-side and App Store is dead too.
    Trying following tip:
Try entering these commands in terminal.
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
IT fixes it for me, as long as you don't restart.
, it works for the moment, and just as mentioned, after restart it's gone and Safari doesn't work again.
However, I was trying to switch off WIFI and connecting the MBP to a LAN network. After a while, a very long while, Safari and App Store were running. After that I was trying to adjust WIFI and Fire wall seeing via System Preferences, without any success.
Google Chrome is running without such problems on my machine ...

  • Apple Network No Longer Connects To Internet After 6 Weeks.

This morning I was connected to the internet via Apple Network. However, after work I couldn't connect to the Apple Network. Eventually, I started experimenting and I switched internet connections. Now, I can make an internet connection using a connection by the name of "000D...BF60."
I'm connected via an ethernet. I have Airport On.
My question: Is it normal for the internet connection to switch from an Apple Network to another network?
No idea why it changed like this. Apple Network still doesn't work and I was using it since I started with Mac 6 weeks ago.
    Thanks.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

My question: Is it normal for the internet connection to switch from an Apple Network to another network?
    No.

  • Connecting to internet after installing snow leopard software

I just uploaded the new snow leopard mac os x v10.6 software and after my computer restarted it wouldn't connect to my wifi like it usually does. I'm able to get the connection and it says that there's full bars but my webpage says I am not connected. There's also an exclamation mark where the signal usually is. If anyone could help that would be great! Thank you

To get started, try these possible fixes:
    1. Go System Preferences > Network > Location.
Edit location (whatever name you want).
Click + and then click done.
    Try your wifi/browser.
    2. Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop for safekeeping.
    Restart.
    Try your wifi/browser.
    3. Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop for safe keeping.
Go System Preferences > Network > Delete all locations, and use Automatic.
    Restart.
    Try your wifi/browser.

  • Firefox no longer connects to internet on my mac, and windows machines, after v18. I've tried several solutions from Mozilla support and nothing works. Firefox

Firefox no longer connects to internet on my mac, and windows machines, after v18. I've tried several solutions from Mozilla support and nothing works. Firefox can't even connect to Mozilla for updates. Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.

    You could try the following:
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.
Let us know if this fixed your problem!

  • Cannot longer browse the internet after updated 10.5 to 10.5.8

cannot longer browse the internet after updated 10.5 to 10.5.8

    Did you repair permissions?
Did you backup your data prior to installing?
Are you using any non-Apple routers to connect to the modem?
Is this with a notebook or a desktop Mac?
Are there any other Macs with 10.5.8 or newer that can connect?
Does connecting directly to the modem work via ethernet, or are you on dialup?

    1. Try reinstall iLIfe 09 from your install disk
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
If that fails, then you're reinstalling the OS.

  • My brand new Macbook PRO i5 can't connect to internet after sleep? It works fine after reboot.

I have a brand new Macbook PRO with the latest OS and the latest EFI. I haven't installed any 3'rd party products except Moneywell for my private finances. After a couple of days it couldn't connect to internet after sleep. I run the network diag and it says the connection is OK. Log out/in doesn't help. I have to reboot everytime it wakes up after sleep. Any clue?
    br,
    DAVID

I am having the exact same problem.  It started with 10.7, was fixed with 10.7.1, then came back again with 10.7.2.

  • OS X 10.7.2 very slow to connect to internet after sleep

Following the lates round of updates and firmware updates MacBook Pro Running 10.7.2 is very difficult to connect to internet after sleep. Network diagnostics show all is fine, all the IP's DNS etc WiFi are fine Safari just won't connect. Was fine before updates

I have had this same problem since I updated to lion. I used to connect straight away. Now it takes at least 10sec.
Have noticed a few anoying bugs with lion. The other thing that somtimes happens to me is it crashing when running some programes ( iphoto '08, BBC iplayer desctop etc... ) and also when browsing some sites (quite alot on youtube)
Really hope these are sorted on the next update.
