Safari 4 rendering incorrecting after iweb publish

When I publish iweb locally and then view it in Safari 4, the initial view is rendered incorrectly. I may do this repeatedly, meaning there are many tabs left open of the local web sight as I view a new one with modifications. Safari almost seems to not be loading the old web version (in addition to poor rendering). If I use the development menu and choose user agent Safari 4, it renders properly from there on out. It is only the initial view navigated to my clicking the iWeb visit website after publishing that has a problem. It is not a problem with firefox.
Any ideas? It is a hassle.
thanks
bob

I really don't now. I gave up on Firefox a while back and only launch it for these medieval sites that won't work with Safari.

  • Why does the font rendering change after I publish to the web?

I created an animation in Edge Animate with four slides, using Open-Sans as the font. The font rendering looks good in Edge Animate and looks good in the local html version as well, but when I publish it to the website, the font formatting is not acceptable.
Here is the local HTML version:
Here is how it appears on the website:
Is there a way to control this better?
    Thanks.

Hopefully someone else will be brave enough to respond to this, but in the meantime, the best solution I have found so far is to post the animation files to a separate directory on the server. Then pull that page in using an iframe. This way the animation is not influenced by the parent page's styling.

  • IWeb publishes updates but does not upload in the FTP

    HELP!
I have a 'tried-tested-true' website that's been on the internet for 10 years. It's been updated over the years but needed much more as of today.
The updates perfectly publish within iWeb [3.0.4]. The FTP uploads the site, but when I check it on the internet [Safari 6.2.3], the former version appears.
I proceeded to troubleshoot by renaming the website and re-mounting the pages. Also, renaming the pages, but after several attempts of uploading each newer version, all efforts were to no avail. It has taken me a full day without results. That is, the original website remains on the internet, which is very outdated.
I have run out of troubleshooting ideas. All of my other websites have not had this problem. There was an issue this week with the ISP Domain Host services not connecting my site. I contacted them, but have had no response. However, I thought I would try connecting again today in case they sorted out their connectivity issues. I am able to connect to their server. I have good reason to believe the FTP is uploading the updated directory files, but for some reason when it comes to viewing the site on the internet, au contraire.
Not sure if this is an iWeb problem or my ISP domain hosting services having issues with connectivity. Whatever, it is very perplexing to me as to what to do next after the extensive amount of time I have taken troubleshooting.
I repeat myself when I say, 'HELP!'

Okay, I understand what you are referencing. I am publishing my websites to the path of 'Users'-Documents-Website Documents.
Below is a screen shot of the folder my Websites are located. Is this what you are referencing? It is Site 2 that is having issues with uploading to the domain host server of my ISP. All the other sites have been uploaded successively.
I use FileZilla as my FTP server and it has been excellent. I have tried CyberDuck, et al. FZ works perfectly well indicating all that one needs to know while uploading. If my other websites were causing the same issues, then it would mean FTP issues.
However, I believe I am on the same track you are referencing with regards to my published website is in the appropriate location on my HD. I stand to be corrected.
I believe by my contacting the Forum and reading your information that I am following protocol as I have always done with my 4 websites that upload properly. As I continue the discussion, it is becoming evident the issue is with the Domain Host server, which is not a problem to post on this Forum.
However, I posted my issue just in case it was an iWeb issue or my not following protocol correctly to publish a website. From what I am gleaning with your information, I am following protocol. Repeating myself when I say it appears to be the aforementioned server. I have contacted them again about their Domain Host server but no response as yet.
If what I am presenting to you is the correct protocol I have in place at my end, I thank you for taking the time to assist me. By doing so, I believe I will be able to determine it is not an iWeb publishing issue [mostly because all my websites are not experiencing this problem], nor is it the FTP server,FileZilla, but the Domain Host Server.
As mentioned above, here is the folder where my websites are located.
    I so appreciate your assistance.

  • IE Scolling/Lag issues with IWeb Published Site

Has anyone had any issues with scrolling/lag with Internet Explorer on an iWeb published site? I have a site that runs great on Firefox and safari but terrible on Internet Explorer. I'm thinking it may be the template/design i used?
Anyone every seen this? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    JC

I've only ever used the Modern Frame, so I can't say if there would be a performance issue using a different template. I have about three pictures on each page.
I noticed on your site that you're using the "reflection" effect on some of your pictures. Just for the purpose of testing, perhaps you could try turning off that effect and then re-uploading your site to see if that is causing some of the problem? I believe the reflection is rendered using javascript code, which may be causing the poor performance in IE. If that does turn out to be the problem, you can decide whether it's worth it to keep the effect or not.
By the way, I don't get that same error message in IE when I open your Videos page. Maybe it's caused by a security setting in your IE being set at a more restrictive level?

  • Best options for life (gulp) after iWeb...

    Hey Gang,
Been using iWeb since its inception. I've learned to love it.
Well- with the begining of iCloud and the transition away from MobileMe I see the writing on the wall. I realize alot of people will continue to use iWeb but I want to be proactive as I have several business websites created on my iMac.
About 2 years ago I had a strange backup issue and lost everything. I nearly switched off of iWeb at that time but I just loved it too much.
I want to start making the switch sooner than later as I know that Apple will eventually not support iWeb. It's only a matter of time before there is some quirk with a new OS version and it probably just won't open or whatever it may be...
So- yesterday I spent 12 hours and tried out each of these sites: Wix, Snappages, Webs, Intuit Websites, Weebly, Yola, Google Sites, Jimdo, Roxer, Neosites, Vistaprint, Moonfruit, and Squarespace.
They all left ALOT to be desired except Squarespace. I think it has potential.
As an alternative, I also downloaded Adobe Muse and did not like it at all. I used Rapidweaver in the past and didn't think much of it. I see their new version is packed with tons of extra costs- no thanks!
I'm left with Sandvox which I am going to try today.
Here's my question: What do you folks suggest? Moving away from actual software (Sandvox)? Transitioning to web-based (Squarespace) ? I really like the drag/drop functionality of iWeb but realize I might have to make some concessions!
A concern is working on multiple sites that reside on my comouter and constantly having to backup. I might be creating 2-3 more sites for friends so that would mean I have close to 10. Do I really want to do that and essentially become a webmaster? No so sure.
    I welcome all suggestions!
PS- I'm not a newbie but I also have not created and uploaded via an ftp/host. I do however have domains etc...
I'd like to do what is easiest and makes the most sense in the long run..
    D

A few months ago I had a look around at what was available in the way of software and you can download a PDF from this page under "Alternative Website Design Software"...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Why-iWeb.html
The main alternatives to iWeb, such as Sandvox and RapidWeaver, were not an option for me since they suffer from the same restrictions and cost a lot more. The other available drag and drop style software is either flawed or like, Freeway, antiquated and badly designed.
The online site builders do seem to offer a good alternative but they can be just as restrictive, cost a lot more and still produce huge ammounts of code. Some claim to be free but you need to look at the real cost - especially if you have more than one site. They do offer portable versions of the site suitable for iPhone etc and this has become a necessity - at least for a business site.
I chose to move on to a code entry style software and this has proved to be fairly easy since the one I use is WYSIWYG and I can see the changes in real time in the preview window. Its also cheaper than RapidWeaver and Sandvox and doesn't require add ons to optimize and upload the files.
HTML5 will allow us to build better, more efficient websites but its not quite there yet. If I hadn't made the move to code entry software I think I would have been tempted to stick with iWeb for the time being and use one of the online site builders to create a separate portable version for cell phones as a stop gap.
There has got to be a better way to create websites using drag and drop and I believe something will come along that will make apps like iWeb, Sandvox and RapidWeaver redundant. After all, why did Apple quit on iWeb?
iWeb does offer two alternatives for publishing...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... and there's any amount of hosting out there...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Website-Hosting.html
The  MobileMe only features can be replaced with alternatives if you need them...

  • Page numbers incorrect after conversion from Excel to pdf

Page numbers incorrect after conversion from Excel to pdf
""This above link (thread:834599) is from a case back in 2011 that claims to solve this problem, but it does not solve this problem. I think that customer only cared about having continuous page numbering, not discrete page numbering per sheet.
    ========================
I still have this issue in Acrobat XI and MS Office Professional Plus 2010. I keep upgrading to no avail. This regression has resulted in a huge time drain for me. If you fixed it, please explain how I can get my hands on the resolution.
Previous versions of Excel and Adobe Acrobat enabled flexibility around the "Page #" of "Number of Pages" (Page &[Page] of &[Pages]) token, depending on context and usage. The "# of pages" token could represent EITHER the number of pages in the workbook OR the number of pages in the tab/sheet, depending on how you generated the PDF:
You could select "Selected Sheets" and then select all or some of the individual sheets in the workbook, and the PDF would honor the discrete numbering of each of the sheets, so the first page of each sheet was p1 and the "# of pages" was the number of pages in the sheet; not the number of pages in the workbook; or
You could select "Entire Workbook" and the PDF would honor continuous page numbers across all sheets, as a single document.
Now, it only honors the total number of pages in the workbook, regardless of the method you use to publish to PDF: saving as PDF, printing to PDF, using "createPDF" from Acrobat plugin to Excel's menu ribbon; selecting all sheets, some sheets, or Entire Workbook; automatic First page number or "1" under Page Setup > Page> First page number. (This last option, btw, does restart every sheet at p1, but it hardly makes sense if the total number of pages is still the total number in the workbook instead of the number in the sheet.)
I spent a lot of time trying each which way that the blog posts recommended and have tried this on multiple versions of Excel and Acrobat now.
NONE of these time-consuming experiments gave me what I wanted. They all insist that "Page #" of "Number of Pages" (Page &[Page] of &[Pages]) is the total number of pages in the workbook or the total number of pages in the selected sheets combined.
The numbering are correct in Excel Page Layout.
The same issue happens when using LibreOffice calc. (Although, I never tested with Libre Office before, so I don't know that it ever worked).
The workaround now is to create PDF for each spreadsheet one at a time, and then compile them using the Acrobat combine/binder feature. All alternatives are extremely time consuming and tedious. It used to be automatic. This is a major regression that has gone untreated for over a year now, maybe two years.
My task takes infinitely more time to complete than it did with previous versions of Acrobat. That means that days are added to my project, when the functionality used to enable a quick pdf generation that was ready for review, now I have to do this very manual time-consuming set of steps to generate a draft. As the project has grown and more tabs are added, my pdf-generation task takes that much longer. We require lots of drafts. It used to be easy and fast. Now it is hard and time-consuming.
In my opinion, the problem is not Excel; it is Acrobat because it was introduced with an upgrade in Acrobat, not an upgrade in Excel. The problem was introduced in Acrobat 9 or 10. Please provide a patch or add-on or something.

If you are setting up the page numbers in Excel, the resulting PDF would display the the page numbers created in Excel. On Excel 2010 support page, (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/insert-and-remove-page-numbers-on-worksheets- HA010342619.aspx#BM2) is stated the following "tip" which indicates by default Excel 2010 starts numbering each tab with 1. Exel's workaround tip is below -
Set a different number for the starting page
Tip   To number all of the worksheet pages in a workbook sequentially, first add page numbers to all worksheets in a workbook, and then use the following procedure to begin the page number for each worksheet with the appropriate number. For example, if your workbook contains two worksheets that with both be printed as two pages, you would use this procedure to begin the page numbering for the second worksheet with the number 3.
On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Page Setup.
On the Page tab, in the First page number box, type the number that you want to use for the first page.
Tip   To use the default numbering system, type Auto in the First page number box.
Also helpful in the same section is the note on viewing page numbers. To see if the page numbering dilemma originates in Excel make sure you are using the Page Layout View see below:
    Hide All
If you want numbers shown on pages when you print a worksheet  you can insert page numbers in the headers or footers of the worksheet pages. Page numbers that you insert are not displayed on the worksheet in Normal view — they are shown only in Page Layout view and on the printed pages.
Overall it may be easier not to create the page numbers in Excel but instead create then in Acrobat using the Headers and Footers option in Acrobat.  I hope this helps - it sounds like a frustrating issue you are experiencing.

  • Safari not rendering Correctly

    Hi-
Randomly, Safari stopped rendering sties correctly, actually, one site in particular. Gizmodo (www.gizmodo.com) only comes up as a sort of list instead of the correct full version. I've already reset Safari, clear cookies, history, temp files, etc. I also deleted the preference file, but to no avail. I'll attach a screenshot of this incorrect rendering to show you what I mean.
    Thanks!!

That would be weird because this only started happening about last week. I'll download the latest webkit and see if that helps any. My ISP is Verizon (FiOS). I am using the built in ethernet connection.

  • Web pages are different after I publish-hyperlinks off, and more...

I created eight web pages with hyperlinks on photos and text. The photo hyperlinks work, but the text links do not.
Some of my formatting has changed after publishing. Most common example, I have a thin, white line above several photos. I've tried several ways to correct the problems, all to no avail.
After I publish to a folder, how do I find the file size of what will be published?
    Thank you, in advance.

The easiest way to get rid of this white line...click on the affected photo, open up the Inspector and click on the Ruler tab. Now increase the height of the photo by one or two pixels. This should work.
The other method is to select the affected photo, open up the Inspector to the Shapes tab and change the opacity of the photo to 99%. This should also work.
Basically, both methods work by forcing iWeb to re-render the image as PNG by changing the photo ever so slightly.
After I publish to a folder, how do I find the file
size of what will be published?
After you publish to a folder, just select the folder in the Finder and type "Apple-i" to get the size of the folder. Is this what you are after?

  • Problems with iWeb publishing to MobileMe

    Hi,
Did you have some problems since about four days on publishing with iWeb to MobileMe? In my case, when I publish my site - and I made just little changes - iWeb publish ALL the pages.
I early had this same problem, this spring, and it was a MobileMe problem; Apple just made a little update to the server and it was ok.
    I'm using iWeb'09
    Thanks

With a lot of media content have you considered other ways of adding movies or audio tracks that only require you uploading those file manually once and then linking to them. For movies this demo page has one possible method: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. This demo page has 7 movies added that way. They don't load until the play button is selected. PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes
For audio you can use flash players or a flash jutebox. Roddy's site, iWeb for Musicians, has examples and how-to's for both. See the following pages: Music Players and the following 3 pages after it. See the Next Page button at the bottom.
I've got a couple of flash players on my demo page: Music Players.
There are many alternatives to having to load all the media each time you republish.

  • IWeb Publishing Confusion

    Hi,
As yet, I'm only previewing my impending website. Doing so, I'm noticing that once I upload using the "Publish to Folder" -- the wrong (domain.sites2) folder ends up being the one published. I actually haven't created two websites but only one. I'm guessing that when I had upgraded from iWeb 06 to iWeb 08 long ago, that the existing folder located in application support is where an iweb site should be located in order for it too be published -- true?
For example: The one being published is located as follows: Home>Library>Application Support> iWeb -- (Domain.sites2).
Yet, the other which is the current updated one that I want to preview and eventually publish is located: Home>Sites> (Domain.sites2).
How should I go about replacing the original one located in the iWeb folder? Do I delete this one then drag the current Sites folder into the iWeb folder? Also, does iweb allow to rename the folder? I've backed up the Sites folder which also contains all other site files such as images, etc.
Lastly, is the iWeb folder the place where all the publishing is conducted rather then the Sites folder?
Hope this isn't too confusing. Any help appreciative.
    Cheers,
    June

Yes that was a little confusing. But this what iweb does when you publish to your web server. It will publish a folder with the name of whatever you called your project (site) when you built it into your home folder on the server, this will not affect your exciting site nor will the new upload show on your website until you contact your web provider and ask them to point to the new folder. This may sound like a pain but actually if your going to use iweb this will really be cool in the end because after iweb does this first upload the next time you want to change something on the site all you have to do is edit on iweb than tell it to upload only the changes and viola only the new stuff is upload in that folder. You will have to delete your old stuff either with a different app like YUMMY or go to your server site and delete the old stuff.
    hope this heleps

  • Site changes after I publish it.

    Hi,
I can do everything with iWeb without issues but when I publish it to a folder, the page becomes different from what I created.
Why does it change after I publish it and what can I do about it?
    Thanks for reading my question.
    Hope you can help.

I have had the same issue. Seems that some kind of version control problem is breaking things up. It helped me to change the name of the page eg by adding a version number. Every time I changed a page considerably I changed the name (increased the version number), saved and republished to folder. Make sure to verify the links from other pages to the page of which you changed the name.

  • TS3408 After I update my website, why doesn't Safari reflect this-even after emptying cache? (Chrome does)

After I update my website, why doesn't Safari reflect this-even after emptying cache? (Chrome does). Any help would be great. I am a web developer and need to reload the page constantly to see changes, I can't have it be that safari takes a day to refelct changes-it used to happen instantly, what has changed?

It probably says more about MySpace than Safari but anyway you could try the latest nightly build of Safari's Webkit web browser engine. I always use this now and find it offers greater all round performance.
Try it and see if it helps.
Just click the big 'Download Nightly builds' button on this page.
    http://webkit.org/
In case you don't know, you just run the webkit application instead of Safari but in use it will seem no different than Safari because all you're doing is running an updated version of the rendering engine in Safari. Safari 3.1 remains untouched and you can switch back to that if you wish.

  • Firefox 4.0b1 and b2 rendering incorrect weight of some fonts

Firefox 4.0b1 and b2 rendering incorrect weight of some fonts
The first thing I had noticed when I upgraded from FF 3.6 to 4 beta 1 was that Firefox was incorrectly rendering fonts as bold. After some digging I found out that it was the font-family:"helvetica neue" line in the css file that was causing the ugly bolded font (black weight, actually). After editing the css to "Helvetica 55 Roman", the font displays okay.
    Example site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/?browse=featured
The thing happens in the very mozilla addons site.
Also have noticed that the same bug occurs on different fonts, where the font name in css is specified in alternative namings, as in "나눔 고딕" for NanumGothic (korean font).
The bug didn't seem to have fixed in beta 2, nor could I find any other thread/document on the web with the same problem. I doubt it's my own problem, since it worked just fine in older versions and I have the very same font files installed since the start.
    Screenshot: http://i25.tinypic.com/zy9co2.jpg
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Open certain websites with css font-family:"helvetica neue" in the stylesheets

I sympathize with you all, and I spotted Kimatg at the Bugzilla forums. My Firefox 3 is all right with Helvetica and Neue Helvetica in PostScript, TrueType and OpenType. However, my Firefox 4 Beta 7 through 9 goes nuts.
Compared to the situations above, all I can say is: at least you are getting your pages in the right font family or even in the right typeface. Attached are some pages in Helvetica that my Betas are showing. They don’t even come close to ''a typeface'', let alone Helvetica.
It’s not just Helvetica. Our in-house Arial substitute, Lucire, is also displaying oddly on some pages unless the font is embedded.
Cor-el, I know you are one of the most helpful folks here, and I thank you for your continued generosity. I have to make one correction to your statement: PostScript on Windows generally does not have a bitmap component, unlike on a Mac where it had suitcases. So all these fonts are vector-based.
It shouldn’t make a difference to Firefox’s rasterizer anyway, but, for some reason, on 4 Beta, it does.

  • Why won't my iWeb publish?

    Why won't my iweb  publish?

It says underneath your profile that you are using iWeb 08?  If this is correct, then iWeb 08 does not have a built in ftp client and you have to publish your site to a local folder and upload your files directly to your server using something like Cyberduck.  Also, iWeb 08 will not work properly with Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
It sounds as if you are using iWeb 09 and this does still work with Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
HostExcellence are a webhosting company and as such, have no clue about iWeb and they are incorrect - iWeb will not and does not just expire like that - it still works at the moment with the latest OS, but there will come a time when it may not.
If the built in ftp does not work, then you will need to publish your site to a local folder and then use an ftp programme such as Cyberduck, Transmit or Yummy Ftp to upload your files to your server.  This does work, as I have used HostExcellence as a host in the past and always uploaded my files in this way with no problems at all.
It might be easier to think about re-building your site now with new software, so why not take a look at EverWeb at http://www.everwebapp.com.  This is very much like iWeb, but you can do a lot more.
