Safari 4 skin...

Hi people,
I have been a very happy Safari (3) user on Windows for about a year now, but now Apple is releasing Safari 4, with Windows skin!!!
One of the reasons I like Safari 3 so much is because of the Mac-skin, just like iTunes.
But, Apple, WHY did you release Safari 4 with Windows skin???
Anyway, I'll be using Safari 3 until Apple realizes that people actually LIKE the mac-style skin.
Anyone knows a solution to get back that mac skin on Safari 4?
Greetings,
Jasper

completely agree with jasper (japzerr).
i too have been using safari 3, on my XP Dell PC, for well over a year now. i have loved it for it's speed, but mostly for it's slick look. i love the fact that it looks just like my itunes that i have used/loved for years.
today excitedly i updated to safari 4 & to my horror, it is awful AND appears slower than before. most upsettingly, it looks like some nasty windows program, that you would never want to use - it's about as far from 'slick' or 'sexy' as you can imagine.
in addition, the much hyped 'top-sites' feature doesn't even appear. if this is a graphics card/mem. issue then apple should have made people aware of this, prior to the download.
extremely disappointing apple - you should have given people the option to choose what style / theme they wanted, you seem to be becoming as dictatorial as Microsoft.
please provide a solution to his asap, as i'm thinking i'm better off with internet explorer... it currently looks better than the nasty new safari PC incarnation... very disappointing.

  • Can you get skins for safari?

    Hey can you change the skin of safari so the tabs stand out more as a different colour of something??
    thanks for your help

    It's not possible to 're-skin' Safari.

  • Skins for Safari?

    I find the grey tool bars hard to read and I can't tell which tab is highlighted.  There needs to be more contrast between the grey background and the slightly darker grey text.  I want to use Safari, but it isn't working for me because of the lack of contrast.  Is there any way to fix thi?  I'm usinig Lion and Safari 5.1.

    That increases the contrast of everything. I use Photoshop and calibrate my screen using the Spyder.  What you suggest throws that calibration out of wack.  Still I'm glad to see that and can think of times when I might want to use that temporarly.

  • 1.burned a hole in my screen can I get this repaired?  2. Even though I have it set to open up to a blank screen, no web pages, my computer (safari) continuously opens with multiple safari sites open. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, it just reverts

    1. I burned a small hole in my screen, is that fixable/replaceable? 2. Even though I have my 15" MacBook Pro set to open to empty screen when I open Safari, it constantly opens multiple previous pages. It doesn't seem to matter what I do it just reverts back to opening multiple pages. Major security risk, my bank pages have popped back up after my computer has been shut down, account numbers and all. I took my computer to an Apple store and the genious there tols me...      "honey, you can't hold your laptop on your lap, that's the problem, it's getting too hot" he honestly said that. Could someone please help me? Thanks

    Apple doesn't call its portable machines 'notebooks' instead of 'laptops' for nothing - using a MacBook Pro in your lap can cause some burns on your skin, poor ventilation, etc. So use it on a hard flat surface - not your lap, pillows, bedclothes, etc.
    As for burning a hole in your screen, you'll have to revisit the Apple Store and see how much they would charge for a new screen. It's likely to be a bit expensive.
    And if you've Safari set to re-open tabs when you restart, you can disable this feature -> Safari-Preferences-General.
    Good luck,

  • WebHelp search generated by RoboHelp 8 not working in Safari 5.0

    Hello,
    I'm new to the forum, but have been lurking for a  while, and have benefitted greatly  from answers found here.  Thanks!
    I use RoboHelp 8 HTML - recently upgraded from X5  - to generate WebHelp for a  cross-browser compatible web app.   I generate using the DHTML > Pure HTML  option, and Safari is using the DHTML  version. I use 'traditional style (no skin),' 'Optimize speed for: Local PC or  Intranet'.
    The Help seems to work fine in Safari for Windows, but now with the recent  update to Safari 5.0, the Search functionality is not working at all. The search  tab displays properly, but upon entering text and pressing Enter, nothing  happens.  It works in all other major browsers, except Opera which gets the Pure HTML version, and there I hid the search tab all together because it's unacceptable in that state.
    The only customization I've done is swap out the  tab images, and insert a little css to  hide (display:none;) the "limit search results to __" option as it was getting  cut off in every browser, and I couldn't figure out why, or how to fix  it.
    Any ideas?  Anyone else seeing this?
    Thanks for your anticipated help!

    Hi there
    Your mention of:
    I still think this deserves attention, and would like to hear what others think.
    Seems to imply you feel I was attempting to make you shrug it off. I wasn't. I was attempting to coax you (and anyone else) to submit the Bug Report. You have no idea how critical this aspect is. I see you made no mention of doing that so I'm assuming you ignored the suggestion.
    Many folks have the grossly mistaken belief that the Bug Report/Wish Form just sends information to a circular file where it is never acted upon or seen again and as a result, you have had your say and it makes you feel better for getting it off your chest. But these things are actually reviewed by the development team. Each and every one of them. You may not get a personal response for each one you submit, but sometimes you do!
    As for changing the verbiage, click File > Project Settings > General and look at the LNG File tab of the ensuing dialog. You are able to influence all manner of verbiage in that little gem.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Help needed - Captivate 7 Audio not working in Safari/Chrome in html5

    I think I am going slightly mad. For the life of me I can not get the audio to work in either Chrome or Safari (both versions are up to date) on an ipad and android tablet.
    I have created a 1 slide project which just consists of a blank slide plus an audio mp3 file I have imported to the slide.  I have turned off all the button click sounds and not scaled the html.
    I then publish to html5, uplaod it to my LMS and try and view it.  Works fine in IE on a desktop. But when I try and view it in Chrome and Safari there's no audio. In Chrome it seems to default to mute, so I unmute it but still nothing,  In Safari the mute button is not even there, even through it is enabled in the skin.
    Anyone have any ideas as it's driving me mad?  Unfortunate thing is I downloaded Articulate storyline and after 10 mins I had uploaded a html 5 zip file and it working great on the ipad, with audio.

    Hi
    Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with audio in Captivate's HTML5 output.
    What LMS are you using? There are certain LMS that are known to have problem serving HTML5 content. Also, the content server inside the LMS can choose to send different responses based on the client being a desktop device or a mobile device.
    What is the IOS version in the iPad? IOS6 is preferrable.
    Can you please try the following?
    1. Instead of hosting the output in an LMS, try hosting the content in a local web server running on your machine. Mongoose is a quick and free option to try out (https://mongoose.googlecode.com/files/mongoose-tiny-4.1.exe) and then try accessing the same from iPad
    2. If that works, then we can start suspecting the LMS that you are using. If it still does not work, you can connect the iPad to a Mac machine's USB port. Launch Safari on the Mac machine. Make sure that the option to "Show Developer Menu" is turned on in Safari's preferences. From the develop menu, select the menu specific to the iPad device and webpage. You may have to open and close the develop menu in case your iPad is not listed in the menu. Once you select the iPad+page menu, a web-inspector window is opened. Open the console messages if not already open. Refresh the webpage in the iPad. Look at the console output messages in the web-inspector. Any errors or warnings encountered will be printed there. For example, network error messages might hint that the http request for the mp3 file was rejected by the server for some reason.
    3. If there are no messages in the console, audio does not play when published output is hosted in local webserver, then please share the published output. We can investigate why it does not work.
    Cheers
    Siva

  • Adobe needs to inform people when links are not supported in Firefox or Safari

    A few months ago, I was unable to download Robohelp skins from the gallery. A customer service rep informed me that I couldn't download them from Mozilla Firefox. I was able to download them after I launched the Skins Gallery from Internet Explorer. Then today I tried to download a CC Dreamweaver trial. I received a lot of crazy error messages and over 100 tabs opened up in Mozilla Firefox with aam/SAP errors. I searched the forums and read that a Safari user experienced something similar while trying to install a Photoshop trial. I then tried IE to install the Dreamweaver trial and it worked. Adobe should probably inform people in advance that they need to use IE.

    Donna Saporito did you receive the error, "[Browser] doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (aam) isn't associated with any program."  If so then please see Error referring to aam protocol when you click download button | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-download-button-gives-aam.html.

  • FLVPlayer appearing in Safari and not Firefox

    I've created a custom FLV skin and embedded it in a .swf file so that captions are rotating over top of the video. The FLV skin contains a play/pause button, a mute button and a frame that is overtop of the video. The ideal final product is below:
    The file tests fine when I preview it from Flash CS4, but errors begin to appear when I placed it in the site. In Firefox the FLV player (skin and video) won't appear, but the quotes work perfectly. In Safari, the file loads fine the first time a user navigates to a page but afterwards it gives me the same errors as Firefox. The fact that it loads fine once really throws me off.
    I based my skin off of a premade template, the actionscript is below:
    this.pauseButtonDisabledState = "fl.video.skin.PauseButtonDisabled";
    this.pauseButtonDownState = "fl.video.skin.PauseButtonDown";
    this.pauseButtonNormalState = "fl.video.skin.PauseButtonNormal";
    this.pauseButtonOverState = "fl.video.skin.PauseButtonOver";
    this.playButtonDisabledState = "fl.video.skin.PlayButtonDisabled";
    this.playButtonDownState = "fl.video.skin.PlayButtonDown";
    this.playButtonNormalState = "fl.video.skin.PlayButtonNormal";
    this.playButtonOverState = "fl.video.skin.PlayButtonOver";
    this.muteButtonOffDisabledState = "fl.video.skin.MuteButtonOffDisabled";
    this.muteButtonOffDownState = "fl.video.skin.MuteButtonOffDown";
    this.muteButtonOffNormalState = "fl.video.skin.MuteButtonOffNormal";
    this.muteButtonOffOverState = "fl.video.skin.MuteButtonOffOver";
    this.muteButtonOnDisabledState = "fl.video.skin.MuteButtonOnDisabled";
    this.muteButtonOnDownState = "fl.video.skin.MuteButtonOnDown";
    this.muteButtonOnNormalState = "fl.video.skin.MuteButtonOnNormal";
    this.muteButtonOnOverState = "fl.video.skin.MuteButtonOnOver";
    this.minWidth = 640 ;
    this.minHeight = 480 ;
    this.border_mc.anchorLeft = true;
    this.border_mc.anchorRight = true;
    this.border_mc.anchorBottom = true;
    this.border_mc.anchorTop = true;
    this.volumeMute_mc.minHeight = 40;
    this.volumeMute_mc.anchorRight = true;
    this.playpause_mc.minHeight = 40;
    this.playpause_mc.anchorRight = true;
    I timed the slides using the timeline, so this the actionscript for the main swf file. I wouldn't think that this has anything to do with it
    pullquote.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, pressLink);
    function pressLink(event:MouseEvent):void {
    navigateToURL(new URLRequest("../press.php"));
    trace ("Press Link");}
    My settings for the FLV player are below. All files are contained within the same director.
    align: center
    autoPlay: true
    cuepoints: none
    isLive: false
    preview:none
    scaleMode: exact fit
    skin: *absolute path to*/FLVskin.swf
    skinAutoHide false
    skinBackgroundAlpha: 1.00
    skinBackgroundColor: #fffff
    source: *absolute path to*/intro.flv
    volume: 1
    I'm completely at a loss for what to do with this and I'm not entirely sure if this is an actionscript 3 issue, a flash issue or something to do with the connection between the swf, flv and skin files on my server. Any kind of direction would be very much appreciated!

    That's an ongoing problem when you have shapes overlaying text boxes.  Have you tried embedding the shape, with text inside the shape, in the text box with text wrapping. That would lock the buttons to the text and you can make the text the hyperlink.  This demo page has examples: Photos and Shapes in Text Box with Wraparound.  Might work for you.  Otherwise it's a trial and error process.

  • Exit button not working in Safari

    Has anyone run into this, specifically with Safari? I created a module in Captivate 8, that has a close button on the skin. The module has been uploaded to my clients LMS and it closes no problem on all other browsers except Safari. I tried creating a button on the last page of the slide as well with the "exit" action and that doesn't seem to work either in Safari. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?

    I tried an Exit button (clickbox associated with the action Exit).  It freezes Safari for about 10-15 seconds and then finally closes the browser tab.

  • Safari Color Management

    I am running Mac OS X Version 10.4.9 with a dual monitor set up.
    Both are Eizo monitors, a Flexscan 1731 and a Coloredge CG 221. Since I've replaced my CRT Barco monitor with the CG221, I've seen huge color differences between Photoshop and Safari.
    I finally realized the differences I see between Photoshop and Safari is that my working space is sRGB, while the monitor's profile (which it seems that Safari assigns to the web) is Adobe 1998. Since Eizo's CG221 has a larger gamut than the Barco monitor and my Flexscan S1731 (which are sRGB monitors), the drastic differences between Safari and Photoshop are more apparent on the CG221.
    Eizo's solution is to calibrate emulating the sRGB space, which is possible with Color Navigator. But this does not sound like the best solution for me. Why should I clip the monitor profile? This would mean the only way to see my monitor's full gamut is to re-calibrate.
    So now my question is, are there any browsers available with color management settings? It'd make sense if I could calibrate my monitor at it's full gamut and have a browser which converts to a working space instead of assigning the monitor profile, or which at least honors embedded profiles.
    I must also note Eizo's suggestion of recalibrating to the sRGB space seems incorrect, because even if I worked in Adobe 1998 most webpages would display incorrectly (except my own which would have images with Adobe 1998 embedded). Even when I view Apple's website colors appear oversaturated, especially in skin tones.
    Any help and feedback is highly appreciated.

    An interesting problem indeed. It sort of emphasizes the lack of color management on the WEB.
    The commonly recommended workaround, to calibrate all monitors to something close to sRGB is suddenly outdated when monitors can display a gamut outside of the sRGB range.
    To clarify your problem a bit.
    Safari uses the monitor color space as working space, always. This is not necessarily a problem, as long as images gets converted into the monitor color space when they are opened. However, this does not happen when the image does not have a color profile. Correct but inconvenient.
    In Photoshop you can choose the working space. Best is if the working space is the same as the target space. Thus, if you work with WEB publishing choose sRGB. If you work with printing choose your printers color space etc.
    But Photoshop will also have a problem if images does not have a color profile, unless the image has an EXIF tag, indicating that the image is in for instance sRGB color space. Photoshop is intelligent enough to understand this, because most digital cameras produce images without color profile but with the EXIF color space tag. In case there is no color profile, and no EXIF color space tag, Photoshop will, depending on your color preference settings, ask you to assign a colorspace or automatically assign working space, which could be whatever.
    There are possible solutions to your problem.
    1. If you publish WEB sites and want to browse them correctly, using your very expensive monitor without lobotomizing it's capabilities. Use Safari or other color managed browser and follow the two rules of image publishing for the WEB
    Rule 1) Images on the web should be published in sRGB color space (otherwise they will not be displayed correctly in browsers on the MS-Windows platforms, with the exception of Safari, viewing images with a color profile)
    Rule 2) Images should have a color profile, in particular the sRGB images (otherwise they will not be displayed correctly on the MacOS platforms. Maybe close to correct if you have calibrated your monitor to PC-gamma)
    For a test, go to http://www.gballard.net/psd/golive_pageprofile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html
    2) If you want to browse WEB sites, created by people who did not follow the second rule, that is most WEB-sites, and by the way, includes parts of the Apple WEB site.
    Do the following: In Safari, Safari Menu/Report Bugs to Apple - include the following statement.
    Dear Safari development team. Most WEB sites on the internet does not display properly in Safari, due to the fact that most WEB publishers are unaware of that they should include color profiles in their images. Today, Safari effectively disables color management when the color profile is missing, a correct but not very practical approach. In reality, most images published on the WEB are in fact sRGB or close to that but without a color profile. In order to enhance the WEB experience for the vast community of Safari users, could you PLEASE include at least the option in Safari, to "Assume sRGB for WEB colors". Since Safari is already color managed, it should mean only a few lines of code in the Safari application.
    I did this, but probably we need a lot of users to complain before it gets fixed. It has been like this for ever, but I really expected it to be fixed in Safari 3.

  • Sirius and safari

    I am on a 20"iMac. OSX 10.4.8, I am trying to log onto sirius.com with safari v2.0.4
    Whenever it comes to the part where I choose my station I get a dialoge box from Safari that says,"Some content on this page requires Internet plug-in thast Safari doesn't support. The application "Windows Media Player" may be able to display this content. Would you like to try?" I try and the only things that happens is the player's skin window appears and nothing works. I have use Sirius and Safari on other Macs with success but thus far think this is a dual core issue? Can anyone help.
    Thanks
    peter
    p.s. Sirius is really interested if anyone can figure this out as well, they have no clue.
    Dual Core 20" i Mac Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    G4 17"i Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Your problem isn't a Flip4Mac issue. Those matters are evident AFTER loading any particular web page with A/V content, not before you are able to arrive at the web location. The fact that you are prompted with a "URL not valid" is an indication that something with your internet connection isn't working.
    Issues with F4M not playing WMV content is a matter of the provider offering it in an unsupported codec. Even though it appears to be a WMV, the use of these weird formats causes an incompatibility. The result is that you would load the page in question and the content will not play. Sometimes you can see an error message in the QT playback window...something like; -19041, as an example.
    So...back to your deal....are you able to access any and all other sites with your current isp connection? Reply with any particular web address that you're having the difficulty with, and I can see how it loads on my Mac.

  • IFrame with code for video doesn't load in iWeb but works in Safari?

    I've got a strange problem... I have encoded several videos using H.264 as .mov files and then import them into a flash file. Flash 10 plays these files just fine. However, when I put this on an iWeb page using an iFrame the video never loads. If I go ahead and publish the pages I can open the pages with Safari and see the videos just fine. Why won't iWeb loads these videos so I at least see a preview of the first frame? Instead, the Flash skin progress bar just keeps running and never stops. The path is valid obviously since the actual pages work when viewed with Safari.
    Here is the code I'm using in the HTML snippet:
    <IFRAME SRC = "http://xxxxxxx.xxxx.net/FLASH/PL2009/PL2009.html" WIDTH="320px" HEIGHT="280px" FRAMEBORDER="0" --if "0" no border, otherwise "1" with border MARGINWIDTH ="0px" MARGINHEIGHT="0px" SCROLLING="no" --"no" no scrolling bar, "yes" show always, "auto" showed when need > Your browser does not support IFRAME </IFRAME>

    Wouldn't that lose the skin etc?
    One interesting thing I just tried is that I renamed the H.264.mov file so it had a .flv extension. I then went to Flash CS4 and opened the Flash document and re-linked to the .flv file and then re-published it. I then FTP'd all of the published files to my host and then went to iWeb. I clicked on the existing container and then clicked "Apply". Low and behold the movie loaded just fine!
    So, I'm left to assume that iWeb cannot load H.264.mov files via an iFRAME unless you change the extension. Like I said, everything actually worked on the web site it's just that iWeb didn't load the video and it was annoying to see the buffer bar in a continuos update mode.
    So what are your thoughts on this? Thanks!

  • OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 and Safari 7.1

    Surely by now there must be skins, themes or personas available for Safari. Right? Where can I find them? I have a vision problem and need a black background with white, cyan, green or similar text. If no skins/themes/personas how can I get this. I'd like to use Safari and get off of Firefox but can't. Help. I created a css file but I apparently don't know what needs to be done to make it work. Changed preferences and restarted Safari but still get the same thing. Grey folders with black lettering and everything else on white background. Just makes everything blurry. I copied a little three line code that was supposed to work but I think it was for like version 4 of Safari. Something must be different now so what kind of code would I need to accomplish this? I'm not a programer but can cut/paste pretty good. If this should be better asked somewhere else could someone move it there. I don't want to power post all over the place.

    Ok.. this is very typical.
    I would
    1. Reset TM.. following A4 in the reference I gave you.
    2. Factory reset TC.
    The Factory Reset universal
    Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
    If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
    Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
    TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
    No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    3. Do the setup again from airport utility.
    This time do not use apple names.. which are potentially wrong btw.. !! Apple finally admitted to it.
    See OS X Mavericks: Time Machine problems
    Use TCgenx (replace x with the actual gen of the TC). As base station name.
    TCwifi as wireless name.
    Data as disk share name.
    Use only WPA2 Personal security with 10-20 character pure alphanumeric password.
    4. Redo the setup of TM pointing it to the newly configured TC. It will say it has to do a new backup.. ignore this.. it will discover the old one and continue.
    Post again if you have issues..
    And welcome to Mavericks.. where each update causes ever new and interesting functional and networking issues with Time Machine.

  • Where to get overview of css selectors for skinning?

    Hi,
    I've just started to try some skinning for ADF Mobile as described in the developer's guide section 5.12. The basics work fine and I grabbed an example from the skinning sample project.
    Now that this is working I'm looking for all the available CSS selectors for skinning. Is there a list somewhere in the documentation or a way to find out the classes at runtime. Since I can't get access to the DOM tree with my favorite inspectors I can't think of a way to find the available selectors.
    Has anyone found a way to list all available classes/selectors?

    The easiest way is to get the Javascript debugging working. I've replied to the post on that thread to get that moving forward (you need to use Safari, not Chrome).
    We are currently still producing the documentation for the css selectors and this wasn't ready for the preview.

  • Media Skin issue

    Help...
    I managed to figure out how to create a nice media skin with no thanks to the incomplete and confusing instructions on the Apple Quicktime tutorial, but with many thanks to kkirkster's website and a few others.
    I am, however having an issue with the movie I created.
    It plays perfectly. I mean, absolutely perfectly- on my computer.
    If, however, I send the self-contained final version over to either of the other 2 computers in the office, the skin won't work right. It has an opaque box around it, where the OS is drawing the drop shadow. The skin is working, in a sense, because the transparent areas inside the box are still transparent, and the movie plays correctly.
    It boggles my mind that it plays perfectly on my computer and not on the other computers, and I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't some issue with QT not actually saving the movie as a complete "Self Contained Movie" and is still referring to the files from the XML file.
    Any help or experience with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Ok, this has worked for us... sort of.
    If you're willing to look at this a little more for us-
    We've got it to work perfectly in Safari only. All other browsers don't see the files.
    I've copied the code from our web guy that's based on your website below:
