Safari 4 useless - no progress indicator for us dial-up users

I am on slow dial-up (26.4 kbaud max) and need a page load progress indicator so I can decide whether to let a page load or not, turn of images, Flash etc.
Safari 4 has no progress indicator, so has become almost useless to me.
BRING BACK THE BLUE URL PROGRESS BAR in the URL field or someone find a hack— Please.

I'm switching to Firefox now! Safari 4 is too much for me!
The reload-button on the right side is way too much like Internet Explorer for me. EVERY other browser has it on the left side or cusomizable. Safari hat that too, why did they change that? What's the improvement for me with a not-customizable button? Its too small, on the wrong side and nearly invisible.
And the gone blue progrress bar is one more argument for me: Why not use any other browser, if they all look the same now? The blue progress bar was such a handy feature. You could even see the loading progress if you were not near your mac, from far away.
And it's **** for developers, switching from left to right everytime you have to test in different browsers, which is whyt i do 8 hours daily!!!
Where is the user friendlyness gone to at apple? Even IE is more user friendly!
WHY DID YOU REMOVE IT APPLE!??? Why does nobody answere that?
WHY DO YOU MAKE SAFARI MORE AND MORE IE-LIKE IN LOOK AND FEEL???
I can't understand Aplle anymore, have they fired all the old developers and hired only new developers from Microsoft? Looks much like that to me!

How could I include a write-progress indicator during the While loop is running?

Progress Indicator

I have an infinite progress indicator for lengthy reports.
It works well for loading of datasets and then displaying the report.
However I have one dataset that is quite large, and I am trying to determine when the report is displayed.
I set the DataSource, Selection Filter and then set the report to the reportviewer (nothing displayed yet)
I handle the following events: report::InitReport, viewer::Load viewer::Navigate all 3 fire long before the report is ever displayed (~ 4 minutes). What event should I be handling to know when to hide my progress indicator?

Not that I know. Many have tried to create a progress bar - none have succeeded to the best of my knowledge. This was posted by Keith Thomson who used to be part of the CR Program management team responsible for implementing CR in .NET:

How to use progress indicator which block the user for editing ?

Hi All,
I have a requirement where i need to show a round progress bar while processing to the database.For example :- I have a bounded taskflow and inside it I have a two jspx page called as "First.jspx" and "Second.jspx".And i have two textboxes and one "Save" button on first.jspx page.
Now when user puts the values in the textboxes and hits the "Save" button , my ticker or progress indicator should say "Please wait while processing" and as soon as the transaction is complete , i need to show another page which is "Second.jspx" page. "Save" button action has method inside a managed bean which has some functionality and then it executes the VO(View Object) and commits the data.
How should i implement the indicator?

Stuck at gray progress indicator screen for 1 min - then fan speed races...

I have read through a bunch of posts here and figured I would give my scenario. I have a 1st gen iMac G5 - My fiancee used it in college and then I boxed it up and it sat in the box for about a year or so untouched. We just moved into a new apartment so I figured I would hook it up. I plugged it in and it started up a bit slow - but I was able to log in ok the first time - then I did a software update (i figured it could use an update after sitting for a year)
Then I restarted and it would not make it to the login screen.
I power up, it goes to the grey apple logo splash screen for about 1 minute, then the fan starts racing on high and there it sits... forever racing and progress indicator spinning. I have tried the SMU reset (via unplugging the power cable and reconnecting and holding power button)
PRAM reset by holding command+option P+R.
Is it possible my PRAM battery is shot from sitting in the box for a year?
It is also a probable software issue from updating??
I tried booting in safe mode but did not work, actually I belive the computer just turned off after 1 minute when I did try to boot into safe mode.
Where can I go from here, given the information?

Welcome to Discussions - it is likely that your PRAM battery (CR2032 3v lithium) will need replacement and it would also be a good idea to boot from your install disc and run Disk Utility:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
You could also run the Apple Hardware test from your install disc.
Make sure that the air vents of the computer re not clogged, you can vacuum them.

No progress indicator or report for Tools menu sequence execution?

I have a sequence that I call from the TestStand customized Tools menu.
This sequence generates custom reports on sequences. The report generation
process can take anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds (there are DB queries
involved).
I hoped to use the TestStand progress indicator to display the report
generation progress and the Report.Load method to display the report to the
user when its done.
If I set a breakpoint on the first step of the report generation sequence
and run it, everything works as expected after I proceed from the break
point. The progress indicator comes up and updates itself. And the
operator gets a copy of the report in the Report tab of the execution
window.
However, if I don't set a bre
akpoint, an execution window never pops up. No
progress indicator, no report when done.
I assume its got to do with interactive v. non-interactive execution. Is
there a way to force a Tools menu sequence to execute as an interactive
execution so I get the execution window to pop up?

Thanks. I forgot to mention that I'd tried that... still no luck. I added
the RunState.Tracing = True as a statement as the first step in my Tools
seqeunce call. The execution window still does not appear. Is there some
place special this statement needs to be?
Are there any global setting
s that override the Tracing flag? If I check
Enable Tracing in Station Options, while the window pops up, the execution
takes unacceptably long as TestStand traces every single step, even when
tracing speed is set to max. I can't find any other setting that seems
related to this...
Any other ideas?

Safari 4.0 progress bar and Top Sites bugs (?)

Hi there,
I am having a problem with my Safari 4 and been searching for a fix since a few days but could not find a solution, so I hope there is someone who can help me out.
There are basically two problems, I have with Safari.
The first one is, that since Safari 4.0 there is a new kind of a "progress bar" which changes its color and is actually at first dark and then gets more light while loading a page. My progress bar is not chaning colors at all. It just stays dark all the time.
And the second one, is that if you have a site on you "Top Sites" and click that, it fades in, so it comes nearer and gets larger until it fits the window. So, if you go back from that site to you "Top Sites" again, it actually should fade out and move back to its old position on the "Top Sites". And again, my Safari does not do that either.
I don't know, if that is improtant or not, but I played around with the Safari 4 beta tweaks and changed the progress bar so I have the blue one in the background of my adress bar.
I already tried to restore my old Safari from my Programs folder with Time Machine and installed the 4.0 again but still, it does not work for me.
I know that these are not somehow critical bugs but it would be great, if Safari would just work, as it actually should.
So, is there a way to fix that or reset Safari?

Latest v of Glims (17) is Safari 4 compatible. Cooliris is functional, although a soon to be released upgrade will correct certain S4 related bugs. Tab Expose is not S4 compatible.
There is no blue progress bar in Safari 4. In S4 Beta, Terminal code was used to bring that S3 feature back, however, S4 final has removed the related code. Hence, no blue progress bar. Instead, there's a spinning gear to the right of the Address Bar indicating the page is loading.
Let Apple hear your sentiments about S4. Send feedback to Apple via the Safari Menu>Report bugs to Apple.

the spinning dial in EP is just an animated .GIF file. Find the URL for it and then just use it where ever you want.

After updating to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac there is no progress bar for the page load. I really miss this feature and can't seem to find a way to obtain it.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
Another possibility is to use:

Can't get past gray screen with progress indicator... Help

I can't turn on my Macbook. It starts but won't go past the gray screen with the progress indicator (spinning circle).
I have tried:
1. turning off, removing battery, holding start for 5+ seconds, replacing battery and then turning on.
2. Holding command + option + R + P while staring up, waited for 3+ chimes.
3. holding Shift down while starting up
none of these things are working.
I've been on hold with apple service/support for almost an hour now.
I have an assignment on the computer that is due by midnight.
HELP!
I'm not very computer savvy and this is my first mac.

Can we have our custom name in the place of Progress Indicator ?

I am using Captivate 4. I would like to use a custom name "Prasna"(means the word "question' in a local language) instead of the word "Question". How can I change it as per my requirement. In the progress indicator window, there are only 2 options where I couldn't find what I need.

Hello Pullela,
For once you are lucky to use Captivate 4, because this feature was lost in CP5. It is a bit cumbersome but possible: choose File Export Captions to Word (do not remember the exact phrasing, sorry). In the Word document you will see the progess indicators, and you'll be able to change the word Question. Then re-import without changing the filename in the Captivate file.
For CP5-users I posted an alternative workaround on my blog recently; it uses the master slide, but you could also tweak this for CP4, you'll have to copy/paste to all slides:

What if wanted to change the font color, or even create this test in Spanish for example? How to edit the word "Questions"?
Is there a way to edit the default in Captivate?

I'm just a Captivate newbie myself, but it seems to be a default style that you cannot edit. Also, changing "Question" to "Questions" would be grammatically incorrect in that case anyway.

I used Progress Indicator befor running this query and after this query also. But still It's giving me TIME-OUT error in this select query only.
I run the same query for 10 records in IT_BKPF1 table, it runs perfectly. But when I run it for 1000 records it giving dump.
And in actual bussiness my records are always more than 100 only.
I also check the indexing. It having secondary indexing on this BUKRS, AUGDT, AUGBL fields. Then also it's giving error.
so, How can I solve this dump..?? What could be the reason..??

Try to provide BELNR and GJAHR in where condition...
BKPF-DBBLG ==> BSAK-BELNR
Also check
BKPF-BLDAT ==> BSAK-AUGDT
Check out above relation...
If data is there in these fields of the table and both are matching then you can pass it and as they are in primary key of BSAK it will improve the performance...

Issue regarding Progress Indicator on table row selection

So, I have to show a processing bar on click of any records in the table till the execution completes. Thanks for your quick reply. I tried using af|statusIndicator component. But this doesnt disable the components on the page while the server is busy.
Is there any way to disable the page/make the page read only when the processing is happening ?

Creating Progress Bar for File Upload

Hi, I'm trying to implement a progress bar indicator for a file upload in WebDynpro, without very good results.
I'm using a fileupload UI element, a TimerTrigger and a ProgressIndicator UI elements for this purpose.
It seems that using the fileupload UI element the iview is locked during the file upload, and therefore it prevents for the timer triggered action to be performed (this action updates the progress bar).
Additionally I havent been able to capture the transfered bytes from the upload. Maybe I'm using the wrong elements?
How could I achieve this. Has anyone done it?
I would really appreciate all the help I could get.
