Safari 4 Won't Save Passwords

Now, let me start off with the fact that I did a search, and others had the same problem, but were told, it was them, not Safari. Again, new passwords will not save, and old ones(From Safari 3)are gone. From every site, not just high security places like banks. I'm using 10.5.8, and everything is checked in autofill. Since the second I upgraded(4.0.2), it stopped working. Any help is appreciated.

HI,
Safari/Keychain fix:
Sounds like your Keychain preference files are corrupted. Locate this file:
com.apple.keychainaccess.plist
~/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from your Preferences folder to the Trash and restart your Mac.
If that doesn't help...
1) Quit Safari
2) Open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities) Find the "Safari AutoFill" item. Delete it.
3) Relaunch Safari. Next time it asks for authorization, click "Always Allow".

  • Safari won't save passwords

    Hello,
I noticed recently that Safari is not asking anymore to save passwords. It still uses the one I have in Keychain but doesn't see, to care about new one. In Safari  preferences under auto-fill, everything is checked. I tried to trash the preference file, verivy keychain but nothing work.
I use a Macbook pro with 10.7.4 and Safari 6.0
    Thanks for your help

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • After 10.6.1 Safari won't save passwords

After installing SL 10.6.1 Safari no longer remembers autofill passwords. The user name shows up, but the password won't. When I fill in the password, the autofill prompt shows up and says "the password is different than what is stored, do you want to replace it?" The password ISN'T different, i have gone round and round with this. It will not autofill the password even after this prompt.
    _I have done the following:_
-deleted related keychain, both the application password for the website as well as the Safari autofill keychain. Didn't help
-I trashed the com.apple.safari plist file. Still no change.
-I reinstalled 10.6.1 Still no change
-I have done first aid of the keychain. Still no change.
short of going back to 10.6 does anyone have a solution?
    I'm at a loss...does anyone have a solution??
    any help would be great
    thanks

  • Safari won't save history or passwords

For some reason, my Safari refuses to save any website in its history. It's always completely empty.
And I don't know if it's related or not, but it also refuses to save password auto fills.
And yes, they are enabled in the settings.

If your address bar is black, then you are in Private Browsing mode. Turn it off. To do so, tap the Tabs icon to show your open tabs, then tap Private on the bottom left.

  • Safari will not save passwords now

Safari on my MBPro will no longer (if it ever did) ask me if I want to save a new password once I enter it for a secure site.  I want that saved so I can use autofill.  I recently got my MacPro to do this for sites that do not want you to auto log on, but that is not working on my laptop.  What do I set to see the 'save password?' windowwhen I enter one for the first time?  You can not enter a mappword manually in the preferences.

Some websites direct the browser not to autofill login credentials. You can sometimes override that directive in Safari 7 or later by selecting
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Passwords
from the menu bar and checking the box marked
Allow AutoFill even for websites that request passwords not be saved
Autofill may still not work on some sites.

  • Safari Won't Store Passwords In Keychain

    Hello everyone,
Since upgrading to Mac OS 10.4.11 and installing Safari 3.2.1, we've had nothing but problems with Safari 3.2.1. Crashes. Quits. Web sites loading half way and stopping. Web sites not loading at all. Safari refusing to even open at times. I hope Apple has some fixes on the way as I've noticed lots of similar problems for other users.
One annoying problem, though. Every time I get asked to enter a user id and password with the option to "Remember this password in my keychain", I tell Safari to remember it but it never does. I have to re-enter it and re-enter it every time (to access my Router for example). I have the "Autofill" section in preferences checked to remember "user names and passwords" as well as for "other forms".
Does anyone else have this problem? Or might there be a problem with my keychain itself?
    Thanks,
    Gerard

I've unchecked the box labelled "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website" and restarted Safari many times. It doesn't crash all the time but the worst part of it all is the partial loading of web sites (which doesn't happen in Firefox). A web site will load half way and just "stall". Hit reload over and over and over and finally it goes. Resetting Safari and deleting the prefs file will sometimes solve this problem for a half a day or so and then the problem starts all over again.
Safari is saving some passwords but when a password dialog box comes up asking to store it in the keychain, the passwords won't store. Is there a keychain repair utility or a way of fixing the keychain if it is corrupted?
    Thanks so much,
    Gerard

  • Safari won't open password protected websites.

I've been having this issue since I installed Leopard and it's been a real drag.
Safari won't open protected web directories. When I attempt to go to those sites Safari just makes me wait. Normally it should drop down the little username and password authentication box.
I've tried re-installing Safari from the Leopard CD ROM - same problem.
The problem doesn't seen to persist when I try from a Guest Account so I know it has to do with my particular account.
It seems many other users are having this issue as I've come across some other useful forums that address this issue: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=73170
I've tried all of these suggested fixes with no luck:
-Trash the "login.keychain" file located in the Keychains in the users Home folder. (Users/yourname/Library/Keychains/)
    -Repairing permissions in Disk Utility
-Changing my firewall port to something other than 80.
-Adding X509Anchors and X509Certificates to my keychain.
...unfortunately none of these fix the problem for me.
The only thing that fixes the issue is to "Reset Safari" from the Safari menu. This really ***** because it erases all of my history, passwords, etc. This fix also seems only temporary. After about 3 days the issue starts up again. Joy. Is there ANY other option?
    Truly frustrated with this.

Thanks. Unfortunately that didn't work for me. I tried deleting the bookmark and visiting the site by typing in the address. The same problem still persists. I just sit there staring at the loading symbol spin and spin - hypnotized with anticipation.
    Any other ideas out there?

  • Safari asks to save password. Said no, now I want to say yes!

I really like that Safari asks to save a user name and password. One time, Safari asked if I want to and I said 'Never for this website." Now, I have changed my mind but I'm never asked. Can I undo what I have done? Thanks

    Hi,
    Quit Safari.
Open Keychain Access  (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left.
Delete the keychain for the site you want to save that information.
Relaunch Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Preferences - Autofill. Make sure: user names and passwords is selected.
Navigate to the site, enter your user name and passwords, click Yes when prompted. That will create a new keychain for you.

  • Safari won't show passwords how do I fix?

Since I updated to OS X 10.9.4 on July 1st Safari won't show the passwords. I check box to show passwords. The box where I enter my passcode never shows up and the check mark disappears from the box.  Have a MacBook Pro. So how do I fix this?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Ver 3.6.3 won't save passwords, but box is checked to save them

  • Firefox 5.0 won't save passwords

After checking the "save password" box, Firefox 5 doesn't ask to save passwords.

Something enabled "Clear history when Firefox closes" in my Options settings (I didn't unless some odd key sequence can do it). If there is a plugin, malicious site, Norton SS (a prime suspect which also re-enabled its horrid toolbar), or a script then you guys might want to check into it and fix the issue. I lost dozens of username/passwords.

  • N95 8GB browser won't save passwords

Hey all. After upgrading my N95 8GB NAM (N95-4) the browser no longer saves passwords. I've double-checked the setting multiple times -- even noticed that when I switch it off it asks me if I want to delete the saved passwords -- but after turning it on, it has YET to prompt me to save a password, or auto-fill a login/pass, on any page. Especially those it did just fine before the firmware upgrade.
    Any ideas?
    Now running -- v20.2.005 30-04-08 RM-421 N95 8GB(A6.02)

Let me be clear: This is the result of JUST the firmware upgrade. After the upgrade I did not use any Content Copier backup to restore data, I did manual re-entry of all settings on the device with the exception of using the Settings Wizard to put the US AT&T access points information on the device, and using Mac iSync to put contacts and calendar data back onto the device. Everything in the Web app was manually set, including the option to save "Form & Password" data ... which is what is NOT being saved anymore.

  • [SOLVED] Remmina won't save passwords ...

    Greetings,
In order Distros, I used to be able to put the password of my RDP configurations in Remmina, and it would keep it when saving it.
This one doesn't.  I installed Remmina that way ...
    $ su
    $ pacman -S remmina freedrp
I wasn't sure if it was a security issue, so I did ...
    $ cd ~/.remmina
    $ chmod 750 *
    But still the same things.
    Any suggestions?

... I forgot to say that I am using LXDE.  I have zero issues if I use Gnome, but I don't want to use Gnome just to have Remmina save passwords.
I am willing to take any suggestions, even the ones that may sound silly.  Anything is better than nothing.
    Thx ...
