Safari 5.0.6 Leopard DMG problem
I am currently running a few updates on my OSX 10.6.8 system, as listed in Software Update, to get ready for Lion. I download the updates from the support downloads page rather than let Software Update perform the task. It's just a thing I have about software updates. Nothing personal against the automatic Software Update process.
On attempting to install Safari 5.0.6 and opening the Safari5.0.6Leopard.pkg it reports:
"Safari can't be installed on this computer. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5." What????
This is a bit weird.
I downloaded the dmg again, same problem.
Why would Software Update suggest that Safari5.0.6Leopard is required and then when I try to install it, report that I need OSX 10.5??
Thanks Carolyn, I was a ware that I have access to the App Store and can download Lion whenever I wish. That is not the question here.
I'm running 10.6.8 already and Software Update listed (amongst other things) Safari5.0.6Leopard as an update irrespective of any desire I might have down the tack to instal Lion. The fact that the update process then says that I need OSX 10.5 to install the update is the puzzle.
Is the text in the dialog error message wrong and should it be saying effectively that I need Lion installed first before Safari 5.0.6 can be installed???
Beats the heck outta me.

I am presently running snow leopard and safari 5.1.7,I want to update just safari version.will there be a problem?
Probably not, but it's impossible to be certain in advance; back up everything first.
It isn't possible to update Safari past 5.1.10 without upgrading the computer's OS.

Re: Cannot update Safari on OS Snow Leopard 10.6.8
So what do I do when websites inform me that Safari 5.1.10 is no longer supported, while I am strongly opposed to surrendering OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro? The Snow Leopard OS is by far the best operating system ever made! And the Lion operating system on my iMac has been a disaster that has cost me $$$$ in downtime. I NEED Snow Leopard for important work I cannot accomplish with Lion. Furthermore, all the reviews I've read about Mavericks and Yosemite suggest those systems are also loaded with problems.

Thanks, QuickTimeKirk and Eric, for your comments. However...
I have Firefox and I hate it, because it's ALWAYS being updated. I spend too many work-related hours on the Internet, and the disruption caused by updates is a nuisance, especially when most of those updates have no major effect on performance or utility. Safari seems to be built from the inside out to work smoothly within the OS with little or no further attention.
Apple is the world's richest company at over $700 billion, about double Exxon Mobile, the #2 corporation. Couldn't Apple manage to issue a Safari update for Snow Leopard? Either that, or rid the newer operating systems of all their bugs. What's the hangup?
What bugs? Why would Apple spend money supporting a six year old system that has not been issued an update for four years? And why not support every other old OS X before? Because the hardware is growing to old to run the new releases of Safari etc. If the latest version you can update to is not satisfactory and you refuse to use an updatable third party browser, or update to a modern OS X (I am not sure what 'bugs' you are referring to, you failed to mention) then you are locking yourself into some tiny little corner with a couple of friends where Apple would never bother looking or, for that matter, spend millions supporting.
If you make your choices and they are not realistic or possible, then you should consider changing your habits as millions upon millions of others had done.

Difficulty installing Snow Leopard dmg from Firewire to the 13" 2.66 GHZ
We have been using a Firewire (using 400=>800 cable) .dmg for Snow Leopard Install DVD, and it works flawlessly for just about any Intel mac machine, except the 2.66GHZ 13" MBP.
Is there some kind of conflict? When option-booting to the Firewire Snow Leopard installer, the screen scrolls down with a black, translucent error message...saying something like "hold down your power button to reboot".
Installing from disk every time is just sooo slow and painful. Can you hook a brother up??Installing off of a DVD is no problem. It's just super tedious and takes a looong time compared to installing from a Firewire drive. We build a lot of macs every day, and sadly have not yet set up a centralized imaging system like Casper or the tools offered in OS X Server.
Here's how we do it:
Format an external 2.5" or 3.5" hard drive with a few partitions (Mac OS Extended). Make sure one of the partitions is at least 15GB.
Next, create an image (dmg) of a Snow Leopard Install DVD.
Using Disk Utility, restore the Snow Leopard dmg to the 15GB partition on the hard drive.
Connect the hard drive with a firewire (or USB) enclosure.
We have a Firewire 400 to 800 cable, which lets us connect the enclosure to the 13" 2.66 macbook pro.
Boot up the mac, with the option key held down. You should then be presented with an option to boot from the Snow Leopard image you've restored to the 15 GB partition.
Then, if it successfully boots from that image, you'll see the ever familiar setup process. And it's fast.
That's it! This method works like a charm for virtually any Intel mac. Except the **** 13" 2.66 model. -

Is there a way to view Safari full screen in Leopard?
Is there a way to view Safari full screen in Leopard without auto-hiding the dock? I've already tried searching the forums but could not find much on it or an answer to if it can be done or not. Thanks for any help.
You can open the Code Inspector Window to have the code completely separate from the Design/Document window. You can also then move the CI window to a separate monitor if you like.

Adobe Reader Plugins for Safari 5 on Snow Leopard
Our software uses Adobe Reader to open, edit, and save Pdf Forms. Most of our customer base is on Windows but we now have some MAC users as well. Everything works fine except using Safari 5 on Snow Leopard. It appears as if the plug ins are not loading properly or at all when Reader 9 is installed. When a user goes to open a PDF Form, nothing happens.
My personal Macbook which I have at the office, is Leopard with Safari 5 and when I download Reader 9, I can see the plugins in Safari and everthing works fine. Any suggestions?
ThanksOn Snow Leopard 10.6, you need to run Safari in 32 bit mode to get the Adobe Reader Plugin to load and launch properly.
To do this,
1) exit Safari.
2) in the Finder go to your Applications folder, select Safari and do File->Get Info
3) Check 'Open in 32-bit mode' in the General pane of that dialog
4) Relaunch Safari
5) Under the Safari Help->Installed Plug-ins you should now see the Adobe Reader plugin support.
I am able to get Safari to open forms inline in Reader this way. I am not able to get the Adobe Forms with Adobe Javascript running in this mode. Any insight on how this might be done would be helpful. It does work in the Standalone Reader, but so far no luck enabling it in the Safari plugin. -
Troubleshooting Leopard printing problems
Leopard printing problems fall into several categories
a) Faulty or missing Leopard print driver
b) Faulty implementation of the print command from the active application
c) Faulty equipment, eg printer, cables, etc
d) Faulty networking/sharing
e) Faulty or incomplete software installation
The fact that a driver is included with Leopard is no guarantee that it will work. I have heard it from HP's tech staff that several of their drivers installed with Leopard are malfunctioning and I expect that many other printer manufacturers rushed out some poorly tested drivers in order to meet Leopard's shipping deadline.
Equally, some non-Apple applications have not yet properly tested their print command under Leopard so they cannot be used to reliably test whether a print driver is working or not. To get a more reliable indicator, save a print job as a PDF and then open the PDF in Preview and print it from there - or print a simple text page from TextEdit.
Also be sure to check cable connections carefully and if possible, try a different cable to make sure that this isn't the cause of printing problems.
Networking/sharing is fraught with pitfalls especially if the network is wireless. If possible, check printer sharing over a wired Ethernet network. There may also be issues when the print driver is not the same version on all computers in the network. To ensure that there are no remnants of a previous driver it's a good idea to completely uninstall previous drivers and then reinstall the most recent driver. To do this (for example on a 10.4 system):
1. Delete the printer by opening Printer Setup Utility, highlighting the printer if it is listed and clicking on the Delete button.
2. Clear the printer folder by navigating to Hard Drive/Library/Printers and dragging the offending printer-specific folder to the Trash.
3. Clear the Printer Preferences by searching in the System for "com.apple.print" and dragging all files so named to the Trash.
4. Empty the Trash
5. Repair Disk Permissions
6. Download the latest drivers for your printer and install.
7. Open Printer Setup Utility and if the printer is listed, highlight it and press the Delete button at the top of the window. Then click the Add icon, single-click the name of the printer and click Add so that the printer appears in the printer list.
8. To check that it works, create a test page in TextEdit, configure the print job in the Print window and print.

How to sync Safari bookmarks from snow leopard to a iPad Air?
How does one transfer, or sync Safari bookmarks from snow leopard to a iPad Air without involving iCloud?
Give Xmarks a try, they have an iOS app as well. It will not sync directly to Safari on the iPad, you open the links through the app.

i have a mac os x snow leopard. my problem is that when i go to the ethernet settings it shows 'not connected'. i called the internet person even he couldn't fix it PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
System Preferences > Network > Ethernet? If that shows "not connected" that is all your Mac knows. As far as it is concerned there is no cable connected to the port on your Mac, or the other end of the cable is either disconnected or connected to something that is broken.
Try another cable. If the cable is broken you will also get that status message. If you have exhausted all of these possibilities, the only remaining cause is an inoperative port on your Mac. -

Having Font Issues In Safari After Upgrading To Leopard
So...i'm having some font issues in Safari after upgrading to Leopard....
It works fine on my desktop but not on my laptop. They both run on Leopard.
Also, it works in Firefox but not Safari.
Here's some screens of what it looks like. This only pertains to any site that uses this font and it isn't uncommon, (sites like google, yahoo, and the WoW Forums)
http://i21.tinypic.com/1z6cwsx.jpg
zoom in to see what i'm talking about, it's really messed up on the full screen
Font settings:

Another pic of what it looks like on Google:

Anyways...any idea on how I can fix this?I disabled the stencil font and deleted it. No luck here.
I ran a font validation check and this is what showed up, don't know if this means anything.

having trouble loading ATT and CenturyLink sites with safari now, anyone else having this problem?
Howdy MacRocker,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To start with troubleshooting an issue like this where you're unable to load certain websites in Safari, I suggest that you clear out your browser history and website data.
