Safari 5.1.2 not updating on SUS (Software Update Server) (Lion Server 10.7)

If you see the screenshot attached, you can see that the Software Update Server has downloaded Safari 5.1.2
However, the clients connecting to this software update server have Safari 5.1.1 and when I check for udpates it does not detect that the update for 5.1.2 is available.
When I click on Choose Version, it shows two versions of 5.1.2, but I'm unable to choose the other version of 5.1.2 to see if it works. (see 2nd screenshot)
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong and how to fix?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Rishi

I just noticed another thread that appears to have the answer to my question above.

  • Why is safari 5.1.2 not showing up in software updates?

I am running Lion server and the Safari 5.1.2 update isn't there.
    Any ideas?

Thanks Wardy22, that indeed did it.  Annoying that it's a bit obscure but it works.
    CAVEAT EMPTOR:
I host updates for Lion and SnowLeopard on the same box.  I see that there are 2 Safari v5.1.2 updates.  One is 47MB (Product ID:041-2852) and the other is 38.3MB (Product ID:041-3552).  I little digging in the sucatalog file shows that 2852 is for SnowLeopard and 3552 is for Lion.  If you've got a mixed environment, you've got a problem!
It seems silly but if this is supposed to be an update server, why should I have to choose a version of Safari?  Shouldn't ALL updates be available?  I'm just saying...

  • Safari 3.2.1 not coming up on Software Update

I see that there is an update for Safari. My Mac Pro is running 3.0.4, and when I check software update it says all my software is up to date. What's wrong here?
    Thanks, Katie

I followed your instructions, downloaded the Combo Update (after repairing permissions), and Safari 3.1.2 came along with it. I have no idea why it didn't download when I first installed 10.5.5. I've been having trouble with my Time Machine external hard drive locking up, so maybe this will fix it, because the last time my iPhone went weird, it was Safari related. How's that for a leap of faith?
Question about disk permissions: in the listing of the various disks, there are two for each -- one seems to have a serial number and includes the choice to partition, and the other is indented right below it. I've always wondered, when repairing or verifying permissions, which to use?
    Thanks for your help.

I have updated from Snow Leopard to Lion with Safari Version 5.0.5. Now I can not update to Safari 5.1. There is no update in the Software Updater, and on the apple-download page, I only found a Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard. When executing it, there is an error message, that it is for 10.6 only.
It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?

Try this Safari5.1 from the installer package

The download worked better with Firefox not sure why. At the bottom of the page after the captcha>> slow down load is the Free link,  it took about 4 minutes to download on my test.

  • ITunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet...???

    Ok I’m completely lost here....
I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (Build 2600), I updated iTunes to 11.0.2.25 and some other updates for windows last night on my laptop. I try connecting to download the iOS 6.1.2 update for my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 5 via iTunes. I am getting this message for both "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again." Everything was fine with connecting prior to running these updates because I downloaded the 6.1 update with no problems when it came out.
What I have done so far with which has made no difference:
    Checked my internet connection
    Changed my internet connection
Signed out of iTunes and then signed back in
Ran diagnostics via iTunes, comes back with: Network interfaces verified- Internet connection failed- Secure link to iTunes store verified
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was successful.

    start>run>cmd> typed "netsh winsock reset"
    Rebooted
Checked the parental controls in iTunes
    Start>control panel>internet options>connections tab> lan settings> selected the "automatically detect settings"
    Deleted iTunes and reinstalled iTunes
When I would "ping gs.apple.com" it would come back with "request timed out" no matter what internet connection I was on, so I went into the hosts file  start>my computer>(C:)>WINDOWS>system32>drivers>ect>HOSTS and added  "#     127.0.0.1     gs.apple.com". Now it will ping gs.apple.com just fine but still comes up with the "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet" message in iTunes when i try to download the update.
If anyone can come up with any ideas that I haven’t tried, please let me know. This is keeping me back from updating both of my phones along with if anything should ever happen to them; restores as well.

im computer is connected i can go to the apple store through itunes but when i plug my phone in i keep getting that alert... i plugged my phone in to update it after the apple loaded the itunes icon and a usb showed up.

  • HP Printer Driver not currently available from Software Update server

I have an iMac (early 2009) and an HP OfficeJet 6100 Series printer.  I just upgraded my Apple Extreme Base Station and when I try to add the printer again thru the new Base Station the iMac says the software is available from the Apple Server but after searching it returns the following message: "Can't install the software for the Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet 6100 Series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."  This has been going on for days.  I have the driver installed already from having the printer connected via USB and via my old Base Station but cannot "see" the printer on my new Base Station without adding it again.
    Any suggestions?

  • "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet" Help?

Hello all, new to the forums.
I've been recieving the error message "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet". This problem didn't occur at all for the past 2 years of using itunes.
I've already scanned through numerous websites and forums for help, but none of them worked.
This  set of instructions resulted in no change to any of the problems, though iTunes lists that as the supposed solution.
    # Open Internet Options from control panel.
    # Click the Connections tab.
    # Click the LAN Settings button.
    # Select the Automatically detect settings checkbox.
Others include installing IE7, which that didn't work either.
    Can anyone help?

  • Cannot install iTunes 10.7 on Windows 7. Getting "a program required for this install could not be run"--Apple Software Update is not installed, so updating it is not a possible solution.

I was following the process of unistalling all Apple software and reinstalling iTunes. But I am getting an error that says "a program required for this install could not be run."
Other threads recommend updating the Apple Software Update module, but that was uninstalled. So if it's part of the problem, updating it is not a solution.
    Windows 7, 64-bit, SP 1 installed.

For what it's worth, at the point the installation fails, Bonjour, Apple Application Support, and Apple Mobile Device Support all show as installed on Control Panel. Apple Software Update has a link on the Start Menu but does NOT show as installed on Control Panel. Is there a way to install this separately from iTunes?

  • Macbook Pro 7.1 not booting up after Software update

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem, but first some context?
I recently got my mom's old Macbook Pro(7.1) with Intel's 2.4 Ghz C2D and Nvidia 320M graphics. A small upgrade from my 2009 MBP(5.5) but is in much better shape than my old machine. In that unit(5.5) I used a 40 GB SSD as a boot drive and a 640 GB Platter drive for general storage, and removed the optical drive, as I did not use it very often.
Well, now I transplanted both drives into the 7.1 MBP, but the system will get stuck at the grey screen. I then proceeded to backup all my data, and wipe both drives multiple times and tried to installs on a clean system.
I replaced the aftermarket ram I had with the factory sticks, put the factory drive and the Super Drive back in. Loaded up Snow Leopard via DVD on an empty drive.
It boots and runs just fine. So I put in the SSD to try it out. It loads OSX Snow Leopard just fine again. I go do a software update to 10.6.8, and on reboot to finalize, I get stuck again at the grey screen. The progress wheel freezes, and I am stuck until I do a forced shut-down.
Safe mode gets me nowhere, AHT does not work, Verbose mode freezes after 10 seconds or so and I have also reset the SMC and the NV/PRAM multiple times.
I am at a loss. I have a nearly pristine MBP that for some odd reason will not work for me in the slightest, despite my best efforts at attempting to diagnose the problem.
Note that all componenents that I listed,(SSD, Larger HDD, Upgraded Ram etc.) All worked flawlessly in my previous MacBook Pro.
Does one hardware generation make that much of a difference for an OS and for upgrades that clearly work in other Apple devices?

    darkrider92,
I have the same model MacBook Pro as the one that you got from your mom. Were you able to install the 10.6.8 update successfully onto the factory drive? Were you using the factory RAM when you tried to install the 10.6.8 update on the SSD?
Have you checked  the Web site of the SSD’s manufacturer, to see if there’s a firmware update available for the SSD?
You can download the 10.6.8 update outside of Software Update from Apple here; in case you need to try to install this update several times, running it from your local disk would be more convenient than waiting for it to download again.

Drag and Drop not working since last software update - this is occuring on Outlook for the mac and I just tried moving  an icon on the doc and the same thing occured.  YOu can drag but the items will not drop.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
