Safari 5.1.2 will not execute links

Question

Using Safari 5.1.2, working on a website --after clicking to the site from an email, I wanted to add my name to a petition. 
On the webpage, the link labeled "Vote" or "Submit" (forget which) was relatively 'greyed out', i.e., color was not like that on the page, as a whole.
Repeatedly, I registered on the page, then logged in, with same lack of results --still unable to "Vote" or "Submit" (whichever . . .)
Solved the issue by switching to Firefox, where my input moved right along to the link on which I was able to register my vote --on first try!
This is not the first time I'm had this experience with Safari, tho' I try to keep it updated, etc., etc.  In fact the US Postal Service has a super site for Click 'n Ship.  Months ago, the site refused to print the label I'd just purchased.  I phoned the site --or used Chat (don't recall which).  Support person told me "there's a known issue with the latest version of Safari."  She recommended Google Chrome.  I repeat, this was months ago . . .!
Has anyone else had this disappointing experience?

Let me give you some hard facts.
The majority of the world uses Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, in that order.
The majority of the world uses Windows. Mac users are under 10%.
Not all Mac users have Safari as their main browser.
The people who write the markup, scripts, and code which make web pages function do not care if they write good code, good scripts, or good markup. They do not care if their code, scripts, and markups conform to existing standards. All they care is if they work on, you've guessed it, Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer.
If you use a Mac, you're a member of a small minority. If Safari is your main browser, you're a member of an even smaller minority. Enjoy it!
