Safari 5.1.5 (Windows) RSS unread count no longer working

With the previous version of Safari under Windows 7(SP1) the 'unread count' for the RSS feed bookmarks were only updated when Safari was restarted. This was bad enough, but now with Safari 5.1.5 they don't appear at all.
I've even gone so far as removing every bit of Apple software (Safari, iTunes, iCloud, Mobile Me, Bonjour etc), removed all data in the user profile, rebooted a couple of times and completely reinstalled Safari iCloud and iTunes but still not working.
I've been Googling about it but I couldn't find much about it, only confirmation of my previous problem (the need to restart Safari to update the counts)
Am I the only one with this problem? Any suggestions?
Thx, Tim

@sean0826 -- this is why you don't use Java menus. Even javascript menus are a bad idea; you need to have a secondary menu system ANYTIME you have a menu system that requires a plugin or scripting to be active. NOT EVERYONE browses with that stuff on.
The only thing you can do for now is FTP to your site and add in static menus (like we did in the "old days" at the bottom of the page; or rip out the Java Menus and install static or CSS versions.
BTW where are you rmenus supposed to be. I have opera, safari, ff, and a few others. they all look the same. So if that's true, it's the plugin that's the problem, not safari.
In Opera Pogo.com works. java loads, the game is there. It does have some drawing issues but not surprised.
In Safair Pogo works fine. Just played a game of chess.

I have the same problem - my data had better not be gone!  Why won't Apple address this problem?

Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth)  around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

  • Safari 4 tabs do not display unread counts for GMail and Google Reader

To reproduce this, do the following:
    1. Create a bookmark for either GMail or Google Reader
    2. Click on the bookmark under Safari to load either site (make sure it has at least on unread item)
The text in the tab title will not display the unread count. Instead, it displays either "GMail" or "Google Reader". Firefox displays the unread counts for both sites in the tab's title text as follows: "Gmail - Inbox(2) - <email addr>", "Google Reader (2)".
This is the one of the main reasons why I will continue to use Firefox over Safari 4. Displaying the unread counts in the tab titles allows me quickly glance at the browser's window with both sites loaded in separate tabs to see if there are any unread items.

I was able to fix the problem by disabling Gmail Labs (you can always reenable them again).
    http://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0.
Or go to Settings-Labs and you'll notice a link at the very top asking you if you want to kill all the labs if it breaks something on gmail...there's an escape hatch.

  • Windows messenger 8.01 no longer works following recent mountain lion update

Windows messenger v8.01 no longer lets you sign in since a recent mountain lion update.  Anyone have a fix, an alternative or a thorught?  I did try uninstalling and reinstalling as well as looking for updates or threads on this.

    Hi there.
Sorry about my late reply but my issue was solved unexpectedly... I plugged in again the headphones and I forgot to plug them out for 20-30 min... Then when I unplugged them the problem was solved!!!! Therefor I didn't have the chance to try your solution but I'll keep it in mind for next time.
(However I was also experiencing some other issues as well after the upgrade so I erased everything and installed from scratch. Hope it never happens again.)

  • Safari 5.1 (Lion) still won't always decrease RSS unread counts properly.

Symptom: you read an article, and 20% of the time, the number won't go down until you quit and relaunch Safari.
It's been this way on all my Macs for years. Every new OS and Safari version, I hope it's been fixed--because there was a time long ago when Safari RSS did not have this problem.
But it's still happening in Lion, with Safari 5.1.
(I know this has been reported by others, but not for a long time and not for this version, and I've never seen a good hassle-free solution. I hear it happens on Windows too, but I've only seen it on Leopard, Snow Leoaprd and Lion. Never tried Safari for WIndows.)

I wonder if this is a caching issue. Might be worth a try.
Quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder.
Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari to see if makes a difference.
To see your Home library, hold down the Option key while selecting Go in the menu bar.

  • Windows file sharing can no longer work after tiger upgrade

hi guys, ive been searching the web to find a cure on my problem for a long time now, but still no success, hope someone could help me out.
ok heres my problem, before the upgrade, file sharing with windows is perfect, with no problems at all, but when i upgraded one of our mac to tiger, windows file sharing is not working anymore, i cant connect or see my windows xp computer on the network and vice versa, windows cannot see my mac with tiger on the network.
Our other 2 macs here running in panther are fine( meaning, windows file sharing is working)
Now we've bought a new computer which is a mac pro with fresh install of leopard, i setup the windows file sharing, but i was surprised that i cant see my windows xp box too on the network, and vice versa, the pc cant see my mac pro too on the network, whats wrong with tiger and leopard file sharing???? please help me, im so frustrated cant make it to work. i know, my pc computer has nothing to do with it, coz i can still connect to a mac with panther os. hope someone can help me fix this... please..

This site has some information on file sharing and printer sharing between Windows and Macs for various combinations of OSs. The Leopard repository isn't quite as mature as the Tiger repository, but there's a lot of good information at this site. Hopefully, it will be helpful to you in resolving your Windows/Mac issues.

  • Windows 7 Network Drivers No Longer Works

Bought a MBP a week ago, just installed Windows 7 on its own partition, installed bootcamp, everything worked fine for the first day. The next day, it did not recognize my network drivers (wireless, ethernet). Control Panel states that they are not installed correctly with an exclamation mark. I've tried installing the drivers from Windows, it 'could no find file'. I've tried reinstalling the drivers using MBP BC CD, after its finished, it reboots, and windows tries to install the remaining drivers. A windows popup keeps stating that 'driver was not installed correctly' and the BC CD does not resolve the issue. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and then manually installing as well as rebooting and allowing windows to reinstall the drivers. Nothing has worked.
So that leaves me with this conclusion, the drivers are now missing from the Windows partition as they can not be found and the drivers on the MBP BC CD will not install successfully for some strange reason. It kind of makes it hard to do anything at this point.
Before this happened, I did encounter a BSOD, but did not give me much information on why (there was a hex error code though). It's a bit frustrating not being able to install the drivers from disk, even manually. Not sure why it won't install successfully, shouldn't be a hardware issue since it works fine on OS X 10.6.
Any thoughts, help or opinions would be much appreciated.

Here are things I tried....which I accumulated from multiple forums....and, unfortunately none worked for me, but might work for you:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11518129#11518129
What did work for me: deleting the driver. reinstalling it. rebooting my router about 5-7 times, and they finally connected.
    probably just dumb luck.

  • Windows 10 Upgrade, Touchpad no longer works on laptop

I upgraded my HP Mini 110 from Windows 7 Starter to Winows 10.  It runs fairly smooth but my BIGGEST complaint is that my touchpad no longer responds to taps and scrolling. How did you manage to upgrade to Win 10?  I am told graphics will not support it.  When I try and update graphics driver I get a failure saying a sub key is not found!  Did you have problems with graphics compatability? Regards

  • Installed update 2015-002, and Connection to Windows FileShare is no longer working

Installed update 2015-002 (10.10.2 ?) to MacBook Pro running Yosemite, and CFS connections (Windows file share) connection no longer works properly. It was working without any problem just before the upgrade. Can I go back or uninstall the upgrade, until this problem is fixed?  This seriously impacts me at work...

    Hello DaveT001,
If you feel that the update is causing you and issues you can always reinstall OS X Yosemite. To do that, take a look at the article below to walk you through how to do that. Then it is a matter of updating your system to what you want it to be.

  • RSS - Safari won't update unread count as articles are read

When I installed 10.5 yesterday a lot of old RSS articles showed as unread. After selecting each feed the unread counts were properly updated. Today a new article appeared in one feed, however no matter how many times I read that article it still shows as unread.

While this seems to be more of a work-around than a solution, try this and see if it works for you, it clears it up for me when I run into this issue.
    Close Safari.
    Navigate to YourUsernameHere/Library/PubSub ( denoted as ~/Library/PubSub)
Copy the Feeds folder to your desktop [option-drag] (just making a backup here for good computing practice), then throw the contents of the Feeds folder in the trash.
Empty the trash and restart Safari and see if your counts are right.
Like I said, you may have to go back and do this occasionally, but at least it works for a while.
    Hope this helps.

I had the same problem and was able to find a workaround. The key insight actually came from another one of your (jkwuc89) posts where you mentioned:
Loading GMail or Google Reader from a Safari bookmark appears to behave differently when compared to loading either site from a link on another page.
The solution is to change the address of your bookmark so that it is similar to loading the site from a link on another page. When you bookmark Gmail, it's address will read:
    https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox
However, edit the address of this bookmark to:
    javascript:window.location='https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox'
This Javascript snippet will trick Safari to open Gmail as if you had clicked a link on another page and the tab will display the correct page title including unread count. You can follow a similar pattern with Google Reader or other sites that exhibit a similar problem.

  • GMail, Google Groups & Unread Count System

Hi folks. I have some things about the mail.app that are not working as I expect them to.
I have a gmail account that's read using the mail.app, as it's an IMAP account. I have some Google Groups that post to this account several times a day.
I have a smart list in mail.app that notifies me of any unread items in my gmail account. I read them as they come in, but the unread count stays in my GMail IMAP account down below. Also, since it's in my "Important" smart mailbox on GMail, it's in there as well. So any incoming emails from that group shows up three times. I want to read it once and have it be shown as read in my account and smart mailbox on GMail.
How can I set this up?
    Cheers
