Safari 5.1 and AutoFill problems.
Anyone else having issues with using AutoFill with 5.1? I have tried a couple times on differnent sites and it is grabbing the wrong info. Address Book info is correct and it worked great before the update.
It seems there are sveral issues that might warrant shooting But I agree about the autofill. The concept is good IF you could actually select the data fields in your address acard that you wanted to use.OR it gave you a selection in that pop up window of the info so you could pick the ones you want. I use 1Password for some of these things and if it has multiple log in info you have the option to click the one you want. At least in Safari if you just start typing in the field it recognizes what you're typing and completes it for you. But as I said I think there are multiple issues in Lion that need to be addressed.

I allowed Apple updates about two weeks ago and now Safari is way too slow. I have tried using Airport and Ethernet and the problem is the same. Yesterday, I upgraded to Safari 5.1 and now the problem is worse. Any solutions?
I can't stand peremptory affirmations like "Nothing is wrong with Safari".
Thousands of users can't be wrong (see the discussions).
If I read you the right way, it's never software' fault, it's the user who's the culprit.
Amazing!
In this very case, the fact is we can't give to "christinefromfonthill" a good solution because weren't sitting in front of her Mac.
You give her a good advice which could, perhaps, lead to an improvement.
But must also admit that Safari is a very slow browser compared to Firefox or Chrome.
And you can't ignore all the problems which arose when upgrading to Lion and were related to the new build and specs of Safari 5.1.
The best example is the apparition of "garbage type" (use of Last Resort font) when reading numerous sites. This never occured before and is the direct consequence of Safari compliance to Web Open Type. This standard prohibits the use of Type 1 Postscript Fonts and is the reason why so many people are in trouble.
I use a Mac for more than 25 years.
I am a very "clean" user who hates the bells and whistles of third party.
My Mac is always up-to-date and despite all my Mac loving care, I run into some problems.
Imagine the nightmare which can occurs for the vulgum pecus who isn't, by definition, a power user aware of all the requirements for running a System in optimal conditions.
May be Safari is one step in advance on its time but lambda users are paying the price for it. -
Chrome and Safari image alignment and color problems after upgrading to 10.8
I have just upgraded from lion to mountain lion with a clean install. My website davidandora.com now displays image sliced improperly aligned in chrome and with slightly adjusted colors on some slices in Safari. They appear fine in the same version browsers on Macbook also running the most current mac OS. I suspect this is not a browser problem since there are issues with both browsers, but what could be causing this? I have run all updates on my computer and browsers.
Checkout this address for a clear example in both browsers:
http://www.davidandora.com/andoracam/
and this image for what I am seeing:
https://www.evernote.com/shard/s16/sh/eb7ce0f4-4735-418d-8793-f867d7e4d642/b7caf 9b1a7e6671b0fd714ac3e98de08I will add that the current Firefox is displaying everything correctly. So strange.

Safari plug-in and Java problems
What is the reason for some websites not working if I have plug-ins enabled in Safari Preferences?
For example I cannot use Yahoo at all as the "rainbow circle" appears and Safari freezes. After disabling plug-ins I can force load it and it works fine...
I have upgraded, updated, uninstalled, installed Java/Adobe, but not helped...
Recently upgraded to Lion, but used to have Snow Leopard and had the same problem...file://localhost/Library/Internet%20Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin/

Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
if it's not already checked. -
Same Problem: Safari wont open and it Force to quit.
I have the same problem with Safari, just like other users.
When I start up my iMac Safari dont open and the rainbow circle appear; it forces to quit.
This is the Crash Report:
http://rapidshare.com/files/156630612/Safari_Error.rtf.html
Please Help.
Thank You All.
ps: Sorry about my english.Hello Kakohernan,
I tried that link to access your crash report, but it's nor working properly.
Try this... if you haven't got another user account, create one. The reason for doing this... if you log into a different account, you might be able to use Safari that way.
Adding a new user account to your computer
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add + and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.
If you change your mind while you're creating a new user account, click Delete - to cancel.
This way we'll know whether this issue effects the whole system, or just your home folder.
Post back...

When I try to open my Yahoo mail in safari, I get a message which states:" In order to use Yahoo mail, please turn Private Browsing off. Please go to Settings>Safari>Private Browsing, and turn off" The problem is, my ipad does not a Private Browsing switchat this location.
With iOS 7 on the iPad, you turn Private Browsing on and off by tapping the URL field. The screen that opens up has your bookmarks on it. In the bottom left corner is a hot button marked 'PRIVATE'. Tap on the word 'PRIVATE' to turn private browsing on or off. Yeah, there aren't any instructions anywhere that I can find to do this, and if you follow Yahoo's instructions, they don't work. This doesn't happen with the previous Apple OS, and you can restore your iPad to the older OS.

Intel imac G5, Safari and Godaddy problems
I have an intel imac G5 with OS 10.4.5 with Safari 2.0.3 and can not access my GoDaddy hosted website directly or with forwarding (on or off)...
I can however access the GoDaddy hosted website with my imac G5 (non-intel) with the same version Mac OS and Safari and with a Windows computer.
I can only assume this is a problem with my intel imac?
Another weird problem...my site is still on an SBC webhosting.com hosting server and I can only access the SBC hosted site with Safari not the Godaddy site. SBC has not cancelled the account and has not taken the old site down as of yet.
I have tried clearing the cache, Firefox, and pinging the godaddy site ip address.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.very strange...right after I posted, I received an intel mac security upgrade...installed it and the problem was fixed...wow...
sorry for the post... -
While on reading a post on Facebook my new ipad 4 will reset back to safari or aol and i have to sign in again. this is a reoccuring problem. i have the latest update installed already.
1. Close all inactive apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two and tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo -
Safari and ebay problem again (signing in when already signed in)
Since ebay changes (ebay.co.uk) I have had problems, I can sign in ok but as Im selling when I either try and sell or revise you are faced with a second sign in which just kicks me back to sign in again, I did have problems about a year ago but these were resolved by clearing cashe.
I suspect its something ebay has done as an update as neither safari or firefox works, and yes have cleared cashe.
The only browser that is working is chrome but hate having to juggle 3 browsers as my favourite is safari.
anyone else got this problem or has solved it this time? Thanks, did the clear cookies, was hoping to avoid that really but it did fix the problem.
Believe it or not have started keeping a list of passwords on paper now as some are lost when i clear the cookies.
It's about time ebay got there act together, most of my other secure sign in websites are ok so why not ebay ahhhh.
It's getting now, if you own a mac you run 3 or 4 browsers, hey at least we aren't troubled with too many viruses!!
Thanks again -

It renders everything perfectly in Firefox, Chrome, IE9, or even IE6... but in Safari (both Mac and Windows versions) gives a js error that blocks the function that allows the site to switch the youtube video when I clic the diferent color symbols underneath... it gives this error:
-*ReferenceError: Can't find variable: cargarCanal* (even though that function works perfectly in other browsers).
The js code thats being problematic is the following:
function cargarCanal(class, codigo){
alert ("hola!!!");
$('#divIframe').html('<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/'codigo'?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/'codigo'?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>');
$('.canales_links a').removeClass('canal_selected');
$('.'+class).addClass('canal_selected');
All I wanna do, is switch the content of the iframe with a different youtube video, It can't be that hard....
If anyone can help us it would be great!
THANKS!Hi
I saw the errors earlier, but it seems to work ok now (here anyway) - what was the problem? -
Safari Flash and Silverlight problem.
I have two large problems on safari.
1. Flash: Whenever I play flash, the CPU jumps up to 100+, and then it doesn't come down until I close down the video.
I have everything updated, and this didn't occur when I first got my macbook. Does anyone have a fix for this?
2. Silverlight: I installed silverlight, but silverlight videos don't recognize them on any of my browsers. However, on "Help ----> Installed Plugins", it does show the silverlight plugin installed, but the videos just don't load. I've already uninstalled and then reinstalled, and tried Silverlight 2 Beta 2, and Silverlight 1, but neither of them work. Please help! These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.1.2, QT 7.3, 7.4.x and 7.5 and OS 10.4.11, and should also work with 10.5.4.
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
Note that Adobe requires you to uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first.
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player versions (v.9.0.115.0 and 9.0.124.0) in some cases conflict with Leopard 10.5.4, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct versions for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-005. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And now there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash should be. You can read more about it here:
http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards):
http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
Recommendation: Close all applications before installing any of the above, repair permissions, reboot, and repair permissions again. -
My ipod touch 4G got problem after update to iOS 6, it can not access the Apps store ,can not access safari, map, weather and so on, could someone help me to solve the problem, thanks in advance~~~
Force close the App Store app and reset the iPad. No data will be lost when you reset the device.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
I am using a multiline textbox and the problem is its not showing vertical scrollbar in safari browser.
If you are having problems scrolling within a frame then you should be able to use two fingers within the frame to scroll

An Autofill problem or not?
I'm not sure if this is an autofill problem or not. But this is what is happening: when I attempt to enter the first letter of my user name a bunch of letters follows this (same ones all the time). When I delete the letters and enter the letter same thing happens again. I have no access to the number "3" or the following letters "T, R, C...etc." I turned the autofill off, but this is still happening and I can't enter certain numbers or letters without this happening and of course it's all the letters I need in order to log onto websites.
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Go to your Safari Preferences>AutoFill. Select "edit" for each of the items there that are checked. Look through the list, deleting/removing those not necessary. Post back with results.
One other thought - Is this happening for specific sites (if so, please list them)?
