Safari 5.1 - Losing Bookmarks and Settings

Hi,
Every time I set up Safari with bookmarks in the bookmarks bar & menu, they are all lost after I quit and re-open the program. Its very frustrating! I am running Lion.
Any suggestions please?

Trashing the .plist file worked a trat for me running Safari 6.0.1 in Mountain Lion. It refused to save any settings of any sort until I trashed that file as Carolyn Samit sugested. Thanks

See if Safari retains your bookmarks. If it does, then move the .plist file to the Trash, otherwise, move it back to the Preferences folder.

Want to transfer from old computer to new computer and discontinue using old computer. Which computer should be the main computer in the setup? Or should I transfer bookmarks and settings by another method instead of using sync?

Have a computer which I will need to retire (bad hard drive), 32 bit OS. Have new computer 64 bit OS. Both computers have Firefox 5. Old machine on Windows 2000, new one on Windows 7. Old computer has all the bookmarks and settings that I need for the new computer. Also have Zotero on the old computer and would like to transfer it to the new computer. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Regarding bookmarks, settings and history, Firefox Sync can definitively help even if it's not it's primary goal. You would need to transfer your Zotero configuration manually though.
In order to transfer your data using Sync follow this instructions making your new computer the primary device: [[How to sync Firefox settings between computers]].
Once everything is set up make sure that you have all the information in the new computer. After it, you should be able to retire your old computer without any issue. Remember, that if you remove the bookmarks before disconnecting your old computer they would be removed from your Sync account too.

I have been using Mozilla for years I just downloaded the beta version and I want to import all my information over to the new version I seem to be having a problem doing that it seems like it imported everything from my computer Mozilla but not from my smartphone. Most important items to me or just my bookmarks and my passwords.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Can I upgrade from Firefox 3 (updated newest version) to Firefox 4 and keep my bookmarks and settings or will I lose them if I upgrade ?

I want to upgrade to the new Firefox 4 from my Firefox 3. But I don't want to lose my settings, tags and bookmarks that I have now. So my question is: Can I upgrade without losing these ?

Firefox 4 will by default use the same profile folder (location where bookmarks, passwords etc are stored) as previously installed versions. You will not lose your user data by upgrading.

I made the mistake of changing permissions within page info on my fantasy football site. Was trying to get rid of an advertisement that covered areas of the page and prevented me from setting my weekly starting lineup.
Rather than doing that, it has made it impossible for me to log in to my team's web pages. I can log in to CBS Fantasy Football, but not to the pages that deal with my league or team.

There is another way...but to answer your question, yes. When you uninstall FF it ask to delete 'personal' files or some such expression. I did it and did not lose any of my bookmarks or even many other special settings. Edit: if you don't get a window asking to save settings, wait for another to suggest help. I could be wrong. My setup was on vista and I see you are on XP.

Have you done any Disk maintenance lately?
Might try dragging this file to the desktop & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Or even Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

Upgrade of firefox 9 did not keep bookmarks and settings.

just as stated in question. upgrade to firefox 9 has lost all settings and bookmarks. Is there any way to retrieve them?

Possibly Firefox created a new profile with the update. If so, you should be able to find the old one.

How can I view my bookmarks and settings on someone else's computer temporarily, if they don't use Firefox/Mozilla?

Sometimes I am using a computer that is not mine and wish to access my favorites and/or bookmarks from their computer without downloading Firefox. Is there a way to log in, like I do with Google, and have my personal setup re-created on their computer until I sign out? (replicating my computer's home page w Favorites & Bookmarks)

computer's motherboard died, and I am going to move all the browsing info to a new computer.
When my computer died I had 20 something tabs open and I haven't saved them to bookmark yet and I need to get them back, along with the whole histories too.
I also used to be able to recover the bookmarks but I haven't done it for a while and maybe firefox 4.0 does it differently this time?

Safari Auto-fill's Bookmarks

Hey. So everytime I type something into the URL bar of Safari, it brings up "Bookmarks and History" in the pop-down suggestion box. I have links to future gifts and work stuff in there, so I'm trying to figure out how to get "Bookmarks and History" to not appear in the pop-down suggestion box when I start typing. Does anyone have any ideas?

Nothing to elaborate on really. 3.6.17 is currently installed and I need to know if passwords, bookmarks [and settings] will be automatically transferred to FF4 ? If not, I won't bother as my wife is the only user, but the aforementioned content is VERY important to her.

The easiest way to update is to use the '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates''' menu.
Your bookmarks, passwords, customizations etc., are maintained in a folder which is not affected by the upgrade process.
