Safari 5.1 Printing Problem

I'm running Safari 5.1 and trying to print a page that has only enough for half of a single page of A4 yet Safari (in the print dialogue) insists that there are two pages to print, the second of which is blank. Is this a known bug, or is there a workaround? The problem seems to be associated with 5.1 since this doesn't work in both Snow Leopard and Lion running Safari 5.1 and it only became a problem when 5.1 appeared.
Many thanks for any help
James

Hi ...
Several things to try ...
Quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari to test.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons, click Reset. Relaunch Safari.
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit, relaunch Safari.
If you have anti virus software installed, disable that. And turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If there's plenty of free disk space, and nothing above has helped, try Safari in another user account. Same problems there can indicate the startup disk needs repairing. Use Lion Recovery for that.

  • Mac mini, Safari and HP printing problems

Just got a Mac Mini in March. I don't know if this is a Mac problem, an HP problem, or a browser problem.
I simply cannot seem to get it to print web pages in any usable way from Safari. I even downloaded Mozilla Firefox, and it isn't really any much different. For example, I used to be able to log on to my bank and print off the current transactions page, either the whole thing or highlight and print a selected number of pages. My old HP2110xi printer worked GREAT with our PC.
Now, with Safari, it prints only the visible frame, cuts off mid way, or spits out page after page of blank paper. I tried highlighting the page, copying it and either pasting it into a Word document (doesn't work too well because it totally destroys the format) to print or saving it as PDF. It still won't give me the entire printout of the whole document, and acts like it doesn't even see it ( just spits out blank pages)
I downloaded the updated software from the HP site, and since this seems only to be a problem with printing from the internet, I know it has to be related to the way Apple based browsers work with it. One hint I have is that the whole format for the Print commands is totally different, and requires that I reset the print quality, etc., each and every time I print a document.
    Any suggestions?

Is there a check box option for something like "Fit to page"? I once had a similar problem (not with an HP printer) and unchecking that box did the trick. Don't know why.

  • Printing problems with Safari 5.0.3

I just bought a new HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer to allow me to use AirPrint on my iPad and iPhone. But now I have a problem with printing Web pages from the Safari 5.0.3 browser on my Windows Vista PC to the printer over my network. The printer does not print any type or graphics on the page although it does output several nearly blank pages each time I try to print. The only mark on the pages is a faint thin gray line at the bottom of each page.
Safari is the only program where this problem occurs. The printer works correctly with Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Word. I did not have this problem with my previous HP printer.
The M1536dnf also prints correctly from the Safari browser on my iPad through AirPrint.
I also tried printing in Safari on a Windows 7 laptop on the network and had the same problem.
    Any suggestions?

I reloaded the HP drivers. But that didn't fix the problem. Because the problem is only with Safari in Windows and not Internet Explorer (nor any other Windows applications), it seems to me to be a Safari problem rather than a problem with the printer. On the other hand, Safari for Windows printed correctly on my previous HP LaserJet 1022nw and its driver. I've contacted HP and they want to lay the blame on Apple. I have reported the problem to Apple as well and have heard nothing. Once again, after paying hundreds of dollars on new equipment to be able to print from my iPad and iPhone, the user is left to fend for himself. Others seem to be having this problem. Perhaps, Apple and HP might consider working together to the benefit of the customer.
(One bright spot: the 1536 does print from the Safari browsers on the iPad and the iPhone.)

  • Problem printing from Safari to hp printer

I have been having trouble printing documents such as fedex shipping forms and epicurious recipes from safari to my hp officejet 6110. For example, a one-page document will kick out a blank page or two, then print the upper one-third of the document then kick out another blank page. This only happens with Safari. I am not having any other printing issues with other programs. Any Ideas?

I had the same problem printing to my HP 6110 All-In-One from Safari and, in addition, printing from iCal. The problem may have also been present in other OS X Tiger programs; I just may not have been aware of it. I was not, however, having printing problems with non-Tiger apps, ie. MS Office, Adobe, Quicken, etc. Following the steps outlined at the HP link below fixed my problem. Hope it helps.

  • Safari with OS 10.4.3: printing problem

Since installing OS 10.4.3, when I print a "printer friendly" page from online newspapers like newyorktimes.com, it shrinks the text article to one page making the font extremely small and very, very difficult to read. With OS 10.4.2 and earlier OS's, it would print the printer friendly pages in their normal 12 or 14 point font. I have tried to find a preferences button to try to fix the problem, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm also having this printing problem, but not just with the NY Times. I print pages from Wikipedia sometimes to reference Safari shrinks those pages down to unreadable sizes. This typically occurs when there are images on the page. I think it has something to do with Safari's print engine (doesn't it run off a style sheet?).
Anyone else having problems with pages shrinking down to incredibly small sizes?

  • Print web page to PDF file with live links in PDF file like Apple Safari's pdf prints?

With Firefox for Macintosh, can I print a web page to PDF in such a manner that when I option the PDF file and click on a link, it is a live link that opens in my system's default web browser?
With Apple Safari, when I print a web page to a PDF file, the links on that page are "live" and work to open the web browser to their destination. The PDF files I get from Firefox are dead. Clicking on link does not open in browser.
Is there a way to get FireFox to act more like Safari in this regard?
    Thanks

Seems the referenced thread is about Lion. I am having this problem in Snow Leopard 10.6.5 with Firefox. Any way to get PDFs with working links in Snow Leopard using FIrefox? I do not really want to have to use Safari for this purpose.
Going forward when and under what circumstances will future versions of Firefox be able to create PDFs with live links? Are there any circumstances where a current or past version of Firefox can do it under any current or past version of OS X?
    Thanks.

  • Did anyone notice: Safari completely ignores printer margins

    Hi,
I'm trying to print some labels through Safari. My printer driver works fine. All I have to do is adjust the printer margins in Safari.
I'm creating a new custom size and add the margin default values of my label printer (0,2 cm). I can save the settings without problems but neither the preview on the left nor the printed labels show any changes in the margins. Safari completely ignores custom margin settings and keeps it's default settings when printing.
I've tried all day googling for a solution, but there is none. My question: has anyone experienced the same issue? Is there any sort of bugfix? I'm sure it has nothing to do with my printer. I can create a PDF with the same margin problems...
    HELP PLEASE!

    Cheers,
this is how I tried so far:
    1) Open website
    2) CMD+P opens print dialogue
    3) Select custom paper size (in my case 2.9cm x 8.98 cm)
3a) Within the custom paper size dialogue I can select default margins for my printer or set my own (I tried both without difference)
    4) OK
    5) The preview on the left does NOT change the margins. Also the PDF preview and the printed result look exactly the same. The margins stay the same throughout.
    Here is a screenshot:
    http://www.quicksnapper.com/brakai295/image/safari-margin-probems
Maybe that helps!? I don't know what to do anymore... Does the margin adjustment work fine for you??

  • 10.6.7 update and now Canon printer problems

I had the automatic 10.6.7 update two days ago and everything is fine except now I have printer issues with Canon MF8350. I can still scan, I can print from Safari, I can print from some .pdf but not others, I am unable to print anything from Word - they all come out as blank pages. Updates from Microsoft and Canon didn't help.
If you don't know, anyone at least know how I can uninstall the update? I know how to find the updates list, but not how to get it out.

I just want to let you all know that I fixed my printing problem.
I could not add my printer under the System Preference>Print & Fax after I did the reset. But I can add the printer back to my Mac Pro by connecting the USB cable to the tower. When I connected my USB cable back to the Apple Extreme. The printer was offline. I did so many different thing still not working. Then I go the the discussion forum on Airport Express and ... I also followed a lot of advises there. Then someone give out a link on Apple support. I following the advise half way still printer was offline. Then I went to my Mac Book and to reset the printer, and add printer again, and click share this printer. I went back to my Mac Pro, and try print a page, I choose nearby printer (there was never has this option for me before). It has another printer icon with Canon MX310 series-1. Bingo, it printed from my Mac Pro also. I have two printer icons on my Mac Pro, one is the same name as the Mac book. I was very happy. It was 4 in the morning. Well, finally I could sleep good.
I am still not sure exactly what the step to make my printer work again (Trial and Error). But I learn a lot by reading advises on this forum.

  • Canon printer problem *since 4 months*

OS & printer updates come and go, but my printing problem persists:
Before my Mac even tries to communicate with my Canon printer, I get an unspecified error message: "Error during printing". Immediately, right after hitting the print button. No matter if the printer is online or offline. In the split of a second.
    Console log message:
Pages[565] Printing failed because PMSessionEndDocumentNoDialog() returned -30870.
PS: There is already a long list of these errors:
    http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=PMSessionEndDocumentNoDialog()returned-30870.&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Thanks a lot for a helpful hint!

Did you try resetting the printing system as suggested?
I haven't experienced the same problem as you, but it did fix the one problem I had with printing.
System Preferences -> Print & fax. Hold the Ctrl-key when you click on the list of printers, and select 'Reset Printing System' from the options. You'll need to reset your printer options after doing this.

  • Color Printing Problems

OK, this one is strange. I have been using Safari on this iMac since day one. It is currently at 4.0.5. I print eBay invoices/packing slips for my customers, usually about 10 - 20 per day, via the normal eBay web page, over to my USB-attached Canon MP610 printer. Been working fine. Until yesterday. The invoice page is normally "mostly" in black print, with my logo in the upper left corner printing in color. Yesterday, the black text started printing in a light violet color! Before yesterday, there were column headings that printed in a lighter shade of black, kind of dark gray. They still print in that color. The stuff that used to be dark black is what is printing violet.
The Canon MP610 has TWO black ink tanks (why??), and the larger one was down to about 25% remaining. Thinking that perhaps this was the problem, I purchased two brand new cartridges and put them in. Same result - violet print. Ran the test print page and it looks OK.
OK - I started up Firefox and printed the same exact page. It does NOT print violet. It prints exactly the way it is supposed to. I started up the Pages app and printed a text document. No violet printing. I only get the hosed black print when I use Safari.
Also, I tried printing a USPS shipping label while running Safari - it also printed violet, so it isn't something screwy with eBay's web pages. I re-printed it with Firefox and it printed just fine.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get this fixed? Why does Safari print wrong and Firefox print right, to the very same printer? I'd sooner use Safari and not convert everything over to Firefox.
    Thanks, Jim

    HI,
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move these files to the Trash. ~ (Tilde) represents your Home Folder.
    com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist
    *com.apple.print add.plist*
    com.apple.print.custompresets.printcenter.Canon.plist
    com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist.
Your .plist file names may differ slightly. *Do not empty the Trash.*
    Restart your Mac.

  • Need suggestions on a single page printing problem

I realize this may not be the appropriate place to post this question, but I will take any suggestions (including where else I may find the answer).
    Trying to be brief:
Brand new iMac w/SL 10.6 up to date)
    New HP Photosmart copy/scan/printer (D110 e-Print; wireless)
    Filemaker Pro 6.
I bring up the latter (FMPro) because I have one file, one particular layout that refuses to print.
It SHOULD print all found records
Print preview layout in FMPro SHOWS ALL RECORDS layed out correctly on an 8.5x11" landscape
Telling it to print, gets a -9705 error which leads to one of two things:
If I try to print, it only prints ONE RECORD (the first record)
    or
If I try to open it in Apple's Preview application , or Save to PDF, neither of those apps open or display the page
Really odd. I haven't had any printing problems in other programs (Safari web page, etc.)
I've search Filemaker and Apple and HP sites and can't find the -9705 error any where
It may just be an incompatibility issue with an 8 year old piece of software (which seems to run fine except for the printing)
    Thanks for any suggestions

Thank you for that - D'OH! - moment.
I had been googling for -9705, which I believe was finding everything BUT the term 9705 due to the 'minus' sign in front of it.
Doing it correctly, got me a hit on the FMPro site which had a font suggestion I think may be the answer.
    Thanks!

  • Word 2004 print problems on Intel Mini

I'm trying to sort out some printing problems on an office Mini with an Intel processor. Word (totally updated) will not allow the print dialog or Page Setup to come up. Docs can be dragged and dropped on the printer, apparently using the last settings, but when selecting 'print' from the file menu, the menu just blinks and nothing happens. The problem also exists in Appleworks (also updated)... but does not happen in Excel, Preview, Text Edit, Safari, etc. I've run Printer Setup Repair, reset the printing system, re-installed the newest Epson drivers (for a cx4800, Intel version), installed the newest CUPS, run the combo 10.4.7 update, repaired permissions, run Font Finagler... basically everything I could think of, short of beating my head against the top of the mini. Anyone else having similar issues?

I don't know the answer to your question, but you'll have a good chance of getting the right answer at the Microsoft Word 2004 newsgroup which you can get to via Microsoft News Servers at the bottom of the Entourage folders list (left side of the screen if you're using the 3-window setup). The news group is:
    microsoft.public.mac.office.word
and I recommend it because it's managed by several Microsoft "VIP'S" who seem to know everything there is to know about MS Office 2004.

  • Printing problem with PDF graphs from preview

Whenever I print PDF files from preview or from safari, some graphs print incorrectly, although they are displayed correctly on the screen.  This only happens with black and white figures and either a negative image with the black and white are reversed is printed or the background of the graphic just prints as a black box.  Colour elements are unaffected.  This doesn't happen when printing the same files using Adobe Reader or Adobe Professional.  Any suggestions for tweaking this, or am I going to have to start using the Adobe plugins instead?

Please try it on Adobe Reader version 10.1.0 ,  Please note that this forum is for Adobe Reader on android and not for PDF Viewer.

  • Airport Extreme Printing Problem with HP Deskjet.

Hello ... I wonder if any helpful folks can assist me with my printing problem? I am using Tiger on a new Intel imac with a HP Deskjet 960C. This printer is listed as having the latest drivers included within Tiger and works perfectly when connected via USB so my problem I guess is not with the software....I have disconnected everything and plugged everything back together again. I also deleted the printer from the printer list within the Printer Setup Utility application.... The imac recognisies the printer and upon pressing the print button everything feels as though its just going to work. The blue barber shop scroll appears but the printer fails to kick into gear and I get the big red exclamation mark appearing in the status box .... I would really love to try and sort this annoying error ... Any ideas? Thanks. Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hello jds17. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations.
Take a look at one of these iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility links, depending on which AirPort base station you have:
o 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) or AirPort Express Base Station (AX)
o 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also, you may find the following Apple article helpful.

Keeping the folder you are moving to the far left will do the trick.
