Safari 5.1 weird graphics

After updating Safari to 5.1 I get som weird graphics when opening Top Sites. See screenshot below.
I use 1Password plugin and Web Snapper extension, same result without these two. I also did the additional 10.6.8 update.
Does anybody know something about this or have a fix?

Are you running Safari 5.1 on Snow Leopard or Lion?
Generally, my best guess is that this is a compatibility issue. 5.1 is optimized for Lion I think. So, let's just hope that the fruit company manage to fix this.
I just love Mac!
PS! I've posted a bug report to Apple about this.

  • Weird graphical artefacts -- black squares

    Hi all,
I've got this weird graphics artefact that I sometimes see on my MBPro17. It's hard to describe, so I made a screenshot:
    http://jfouhy.googlepages.com/mac-graphics-bug.jpg
(ignore the slight fuzzyness; that's just jpeg compression)
In this case, the boxes are black, but they're often red, or sometimes other colours. It only happens when I'm getting the graphics card to do something "difficult", eg expose with 100+ windows, 3d application (particularly if the 3d app doesn't have focus).
Anyone seen this before, or know what to do?

    Yay artifacts rule
Through my experiences with artifacts I found out that it was a faulty graphics card. This was on a windows machine, so it could be a whole nother ball park with a Mac.
So maybe call Apple or go into an Apple Store and see what they can do fer ya

  • Weird graphic before login screen and laptop is VERY slow

    Hello,
So I have an Early-2011 MacBook Pro 17".  Lately (past 3 months) the computer has been slower (which is normal, it's getting older) but now it is just unbearably slow and for seemingly NO reason.  I have meters on the menu bar that say there is pleny of RAM left and the processor is running at 2%-6%.  I can't figure out for a single reason why this is happening, but it is EXTREMELY frustrating, since only 2.5 years ago I paid 3200$ for this computer.
Now there is a weird graphic that appears RIGHT before the login screen appears.  I have attached a photo.  I currently own an iPhone 5, iPad 4, iMac 20" (2008), MacBook Pro 17" (early 2011), and an iPod Touch 3rd Generation.   I have had problems with almost all the products, but yet have remained a die-hard Apple fan.  I'm beginning to question my affinity to Apple, because I could have purchased a 17" Windows computer for MUCH less and then just replaced it this year.  Instead I thought this piece of junk would last me 6 years.... This is hardly looking like it will be the case, as I can barely do anything on it as of now.
    It's an early-2011 MacBook Pro 17", with a 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM and a 750GB Western Digital Black hard drive running at 7200RPM.

    justinjsc,
I can’t explain the weird graphic, but I can offer something to try regarding the slowdown. Boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Did this make any difference?
In case the slowdown is due to a problem with your hard drive, do you make regular backups? If not, you might want to consider buying an external drive to use as a Time Machine backup destination.

  • All kinds of weird graphical issues

Out of the blue I've had all kinds of weird graphical glitches happening on my macbook.
-The check-mark that shows what network I'm using under the airport menu bar is upside-down
-The spotlight menu background is now light gray instead of blue
-Some icons for applications I'm running on the dock keep growing bigger, cutting off the image
-Some buttons have graphical glitches when clicked on
-The r/y/g buttons at the top left of windows have a sharp top-right corner
I'm sure there's more stuff happening with all this going crazy, but that's what I've noticed so far. I'd post pictures here if I could.
    Any ideas?

I would run the AHT "Apple Hardware Test". It is included with your system restore discs. There could be graphics chip errors (voltage etc) or it could be software based. I am betting it is SW based as I have had this issue before with hard corners on the windows and general graphic anomalies.
Also try booting to MAC OS on your machine from different source. Disc or Hard Disk.
Failing all that I think I fixed my issue a few years ago with an Archive and Install. It will replace your System Folder but keep all your user data. Then patch with the combo update to 10.6.6.

  • Weird graphical glitches in Chrome with Mavericks

I installed Mavericks and since then I have a weird and common graphical glitch that affects the whole screen when using Chrome and happens for about half a second at a time. It is pretty frustrating. Does anyone know how to fix this? It looks like this:
Will there be an update to Mavericks soon? My computer is even slower since the install. Programs crashing often...

Have you tried another browser like Safari or Firefox?
    Firefox
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Weird graphical user interface behavior - defective card?

After I work for a while with my MBP I notice some weird things in the GUI. For instance, when I scroll through the various items in the popdown menus the "blue" selector is no longer there (i.e. I can't see what I am selecting while I scroll through with the mouse). I always resolve this issue by restarting the machine. Other times I ahve to restrat the Finder when i try to secure empty the trash - it just crashes. I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar behaviors: does this depend on the software or on the graphic card?
    Yhank you for the help.

Try creating a brand new account (in System Preferences -> Users & Groups) and test there.
    Tried. The same.
I don't actually have a retina machine, but I see no reason for this to be related to the fact that you have a retina MBP. Unless you have information that suggests it is present on other similar machines...?
At first I thought that it was just on the Retina, but then I really looked into my external monitor and saw it — looking at it right now. It seems to me that when Always show tab bar is ON the space between Bookmarks bar and the tab is sloppy sliced.
The hDPI screen reveals the graphic irregularities from regular DPI screens without a problem.
The reason I posted this here is because I saw many people are having glitches, artifacts and flickers with Safari (on Retina).

  • Weird graphics artifacts when using light table

I'm seeing strange flashing shapes and pixels when I move photos around on a light table. Doesn't affect performance, just visually very bothersome. Using new MacPro w/ 8800GT. Wondering if anyone else is seeing this behavior on light tables??
    -Nelson

I also have the same problem, only different circumstances. I've noticed there are several websites that I can go to that yield this issue, and for me the fix was to go into the Energy Saver system preferences and uncheck the Automatic Graphics Switching box. An example of an issue I'm currently experiencing is:
    Visit http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/applepatents_hint_at_final_pro_changes_and_or_new_media_presentationsoftw/
then click on the Reader button and the Safari window background gets all mangled. Click on the reader button again and it all goes away. Now repeat with that system preference turned off and it won't do it anymore.
Please advise if you can reproduce this. (Oh, this obviously is only for 2010 MacBook Pros that have that system preference option in the first place).

  • Safari won't display graphics for some web sites

There are some sites that Safari won't display all of the graphics. For instance, nissanusa.com opens to a blank page with a little "feedback" symbol in the lower right corner. Similarly, the infiniti.com page has some text but no graphics. Both pages open fine on Firefox. There are other pages, but I prefer not to have to switch back and forth between browsers. Am I missing a plug-in that I don't know about?
    Phil

Sorry, Guys. Somehow I screwed up when I installed the new Safari with Leopard. I don't remember accessing the preferences for Safari and thought they remained the same as for Safari 2. However, upon checking, I discovered the "enable plug-ins" box unchecked. Checking it solved all of the web site problems.
Peter, Thanks for your response. For informational purposes, on Safari 3, the "enable Flash" button is no longer hidden in the Mime settings tab. Now it's on right on the advanced page of the Quicktime preferences.
Again, sorry for my screw up and thanks for your help!

  • Freezing, glitches and weird graphics problems

My white iMac starting having weird praphics issues about year and a half ago. Nothing that was too much to deal with. Simply using expose always cleared it up and if it came back I would do the same. It seems to be getting worse. And then yesterday my iMac started getting super slow and pausing for no reason and then I got the black transparent window shade come from the top of my screen to the bottom and then a message telling me I needed to restart my computer.
After that seemed to work but I still had graphics problems screen flickering and things like this. Then freezes started happening. I reset my pram and novram with no luck. That didn't seem to help. I have 4g of memory so I know it's not that. What hardware could be causing this? Thanks

  • Help - weird graphic "flash" in published file

I have several published Captivate files I have
imported into a Lectora file delivered via our LMS. When entering a
page that contains a movie, I'm seeing this weird green graphic for
a split second, then the movie begins to play. The graphic looks
like a grid of navigation buttons - next, back, refresh, mute, etc.
It's only happening on pages that contain a Captivate movie.
Nowhere in my Captivate files or my Lectora file do I have a
    graphic that looks like this.
Any ideas as to what's happening and how I can get rid of it?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Rachel

    Hello,
If I do understand your question all right (sorry, am not a native English speaker), I do believe you are mixing up two things. If you want indeed to publish to PDF (and not to SWF or EXE), you'll get a multimedia PDF (in which a SWF can play) but in that case the user really do need the Adobe Reader 9, previous versions do not support multimedia PDF.
What seems a bit contradictory is that you start with mentioning an issue with a PDF that should be called from a CP-slide. The problem there could be that you were linking to an absolute path on your PC when browsing, can you check that? If you introduce simply the name of the PDF and you make sure that the PDF and the CP-published files (normally HTML, JS and SWF) are uploaded in the same folder, the CP will find the PDF. I think you now have a 'broken link' because of an absolute path reference for the PDF.

  • Safari will not load graphics

Two days ago Safari quite loading graphic images, it will load text but no images. I have checked all the settings and nothing has changed. I uninstalled and re-installed Safari with the same result. Ran a virus scan and Drive Genius 3, Also ran Cocktail every thing was good, any suggestions

    Hi Guys,
Exactly the same problem. Started yesterday morning (Weds 16th) for no apparent reason. Safari displays text only no matter the website. I've had to download Firefox to use the net and it works perfectly. It's a lot quicker than Safari too, which surprised me. Using Firefox I downloaded Safari 5.0.3 for Leopard from the Apple UK website and that has exactly the same problem.

  • Very weird graphical error

    Hi all,
I use bootcamp purely for gaming, and regularly use it to play Warcraft 3 (on Garena), Final Fantasy XI, Worms Armageddon and other. These all normally work fine (with only rare blue screens, gotta love windows!).
My problem is however that every now and again (maybe once or twice per week if I am using bootcamp alot) my screen will go from being completely normal to completely messed up. I get a dark black line straight down the middle of my screen about 1mm wide and almost the entire screen seems to turn various shades of pink/purple and green (barring an area about 2" in width from the far right of the screen, which seems to be normal). I dont know if the screen if inverting colours (as my blue desktop turns pink) or if its just losing colour depth? There is no fuzziness or anything on the screen as all detail remains intact, albeit in weird fluorescent colours.
I would put this down to a problem with a 3d graphics engive or something, but this has just happened as i played a simple internet flash game - I was wondering if there ais any quick fix to the problem? or maybe I have a setting on the graphics card switched on which shouldn't be?
All drivers are up to date, this problem still baffles me. It can be noted as well that restiing the screen (which i try to do by changing the resolution/no of colours etc) has absolutely no effect on this problem, only a full restart seems to fix it.
    Thanks
    Adam
