Safari 5.1(windows 7) not saving logins

After updating last week to 5.1, safari no longer keeps me logged in to websites upon re-opening. If i log in to ANY website, and mark that i'd like to stay logged in, when i close and reopen safari, i am always logged out of all websites. I reset my safari completely to no avail, and I moved the com.apple.Safari.plist file out onto my desktop, again without any results. Auto fill works, and as far as i can tell cookies for the websites are being saved, but it is not keeping me logged in to any website (have tried 8 different ones). Internet explorer seems to be working fine in this regard on the same computer (but i hate IE), so it seems to just be a problem with safari.

This is done purposely for security. That's why IE does this and Safari does not.
Always logout before leaving any website. And if you have visited a banking site, make sure and empty your Safari cache.

  • Safari always opens with "Welcome to Safari" screen. Home page not saved.

After a clean reinstall of Yosemite on our mid-2010 iMac and an upgrade to Safari 8.0.2, my partner is greeted with the "Welcome To Safari" screen each time he launches Safari.
In addition, his home page is not saved and the Favorites bar, which is set to be displayed by default, does not show.
My own Safari experience is unaffected.
Has anybody else experienced this and any suggestions on how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Delete cookies
Safari > Preferences >  Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
Press the “Remove All Website Data” button.
It will take a while to finish.
    Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those extensions one by one and test.
      Delete safari .plist file.
Quit all applications. Click on an empty spot on the desktop to activate Finder.
Hold the “Option” key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select “Library” from the drop down.
      Library > Preferences >  com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click it and select  "Move  to Trash".  Close Finder window.
      Please don’t empty the Trash.
      Restart. Launch Safari
If this doesn’t help, right click the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”.
Right click the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.

  • Window sizing not saved?

I resize a sheet in Number v3 and save it bit the careful sizing I set is not saved and a small default window size opens when I re-open the file. How can I save my window sizing as per Number 09?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I think window auto-tuning is enabled.
You can disable it by running the following commend.
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows 8 not saving settings

I have a problem with Windows 8 Pro.
Basically, it doesn't save profile settings, for example, created docs, desktop personalisation, log on window personalisation, etc.
So every time I log off or shut down the computer, all settings are reverted to default, like a fresh install.
Even the setting of Other Software's are also not saving, for example, when i change settings of media player's and restart my pc its reverted to default. Even the download history of Internet Download Manager is also reverted back when i shutdown.
Thanks for your help in advance!

I suspect you installed any third party software which restores the previous state. Please check that.
If the computer is in domain environment, please contact IT stuff if there is any group policy to perform the restore.

  • Firefox 3.6.15 Windows 7 not saving passwords

When I enter a user name and a password, just as I did a moment ago to create my login for this forum, the information is not being saved by Firefox. The pop-up bar appears with the three buttons, Remember, Never for this Site and Not Now. However, clicking on Remember does nothing and the bar stays on my screen. If I recall, this bar used to go away after saving the password. I am using the latest version of Firefox (3.6.15) . What is new is this computer and the Windows 7 operating system. I am not really interested in a work-around, but instead why Firefox is not working correctly. I have read numerous articles and posts, but most of them are older and I suspect don't take into account the Windows 7 (with SP1 applied) issue.

I have no passwords stored yet as this is a brand new installation of Firefox, on this brand new computer running Windows 7.
When I try to save a password, nothing happens! That is the problem.
When the "Do you want Firefox to remember the password...." dialog box shows me 3 action buttons, none of them respond to clicking on them. Consequently, the passwords are not being saved.

  • Cookies are not saved (login info, cookie acceptance, bank cookies etc)

Cookies are not being saved. examples: if I log into the telegraph site the login does not persist, if I accept the cookies from The Register I get asked again, If I set my location on the BBC news site it resets, the same with my bank website.
    I have tried:
    disabling all add-ons
    resetting firefox
uninstalling and reinstalling firefox (no add-ons at all)
    deleting my user config files
deleting anything to do with firefox and reinstalling
    unsyncing firefox
I'm tearing my hair out now lol. It's making it impossible to use firefox (especialy with banks that set a cookie to recognise the pc etc)
Any ideas what could be wrong or what else to try to locate the problem?

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
It is possible that the <i>cookies.sqlite</i> file that stores the cookies is corrupted if clearing cookies doesn't work.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • Firefox 26 not saving logins OR passwords after clicking "Remember me"?

    Problem:
Began having this issue about a month ago, after altering some Google privacy settings. I then went on a rampage of cookie deleting and disabled all third party cookies... and managed, somehow, to disable Firefox's ability to remember /any/ website's "remember me".
I constantly have to log in to every account each time I exit the webpage, even after clicking the remember me box.
Passwords and login info are still stored; they auto-fill when I click on the fill-in bars; but accounts refuse to stay logged-in.
    Additional info:
After toying around with the google settings, that didn't fix things.
Re-enabling third party cookies didn't fix things.
Privacy/Security Add Ons include: Ghostery 5.1, Adblock Plus 2.4.1, WOT
Changing security settings in the Options -> Firefox Privacy didn't fix things.
    Resetting Firefox didn't fix things.
"Remember form & search history" is on.
Everything in privacy is currently checked EXCEPT "Use private browsing".
    Using Firefox 26.

    ''Soniahryn wrote:''

Then you have a problem with cookies.
    ''Soniahryn wrote:''
Everything in privacy is currently checked EXCEPT "Use private browsing".
Click the '''Exceptions''' button and delete any unwanted entries. ''Block'' exceptions will prevent cookies from the respective domain from being saved altogether, while ''Allow for Session'' exceptions will delete cookies from the respective domain once Firefox is closed.
If you don't have any cookie exceptions, does the problem go away if you disable all your add-ons in the Add-ons Manager, Extensions category and restart Firefox? If yes, then see
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
If the problem persists with all extensions disabled, try the following.
    # Under '''[[Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track|Options - Privacy]]''', set ''Firefox will: Remember history''.
    # Open '''[[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data|your profile folder]]'''.
    # Exit Firefox.
    # Delete the ''cookies.sqlite'' file and if found, also ''cookies.sqlite-shm'' and ''cookies.sqlite-wal''. Note that this will discard any saved cookies you may have.

  • Can't DownloadFirefox for Mac. download disappears from download window in safari. pop up windows are not blocked.

I have watched firefox download. Once it is complete it disappears from the download window in Safari.
My pop up blocker is shut off.
I can download when I am in Administrator mode but not under individual username account.

You should be able to check in Safari to find where downloads are going, in Preferences > General. You can also change the download directory for Safari. If you cannot get Safari to work on that computer, maybe download Firefox on some other computer and transfer the file on a flash stick or CD.

  • Quicktime Pro Windows 7 not saving

I have a valid registration code, and name, that I am entering exactly as it was purchased. The code, when entered, validates, and changes from "Buy QuickTime Pro" to "QuickTime Pro 7". That said, none of the Pro features are available. When I go back to the registration preference, the information is empty and I need to re-enter it. The information isn't being saved, though it is valid.
I am running QuickTime 7.7.5, and Windows 7 (because my government job is anti-Apple hardware...) Is there a place where it is failing to connect to a server, or is there a registry where this information is supposed to be getting saved, but isn't. I've been on phone support for 2 hours with 4 different people, none fo them could assist me.

Unsure about why it's not remembering Time and Date but as for ethernet, in your setup WiFi seems to be your default. Change the default to ethernet. But that doesn't work so try disabling the Wifi card in Device Manager. Obviously, ethernet IS working so I don't know why your changes are not recorded.
Which Boot Camp drivers did you install? Maybe you could look at updating these if they are not the latest, 3.0.1 from the Snow Leopard DVD.
I suppose I should say here that I have neither of these problems with Win7. Unfortunately, I don't have my W7 machine here to check my details.

  • Safari has tabbed windows, why not Finder windows?

Having 7 different finder windows open at once can be quite annoying and difficult to navigate through. I would much rather have one or two windows open and however many tabs for each. It doesn't seem like it would be anything difficult to add, so why not offer it?

There are a ton of usability issues to contend with that Safari doesn't have to deal with.
So many that Finder seems to get markedly buggier and quirkier with each new release. It is as if it is in perpetual late beta development, with new features grafted on before the old ones are completely perfected. The last thing we need is yet another one until Apple fully sorts out the code already there.

  • Finder window size not saved when cmd+click

Hi. I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem. I look through the forum but didn't find it posted.
I re-sized my finder to a certain size and have done the same to some other folder such that they are basically all different sizes. However, at some point, if I cmd+double click a folder to open it, the window size is reverted back to that of my home folder. I know this didn't happen in 10.5 and may have to do with the .DS_Store file. Anyways, it's an annoyance and any help would be appreciated. THanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried to repair your hard drive using Disk Utility? You will need to boot from your install disc, navigate to Disk Utility, and then select your hard drive and then "Repair Disk". Repair it until there is nothing left to repair.
Also, be sure you have adequate free space on your hard drive. 15% at least.
How old is your Mac, and does it still have the original hard drive? Hard drives typically have an average useful life of 3-5 years, and if yours is getting into this range (or even if it isn't), the hard drive could be beginning to fail.
To do a detailed check on the physical health of your hard drive, download and run this utility:

You can download the demo and run it several times for free.

  • Captive Wi-Fi network not saving login and password

Since yesterday my iPhone 5S stopped asking if I want to save the login and password information when start a session on a captive Wi-Fi network. The settings Safari>Passwords & Autofill is on and Safari isn't in Private mode. It was working until yesterday and had the option to automatically fill in when I touched the login field.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
    iPhone 5S - iOS 8.0.2

Well, I tried to duplicate what you talked about. I have my wireless here at home, and I chose, "Forget this network" and when I went to rejoin, it asked for a password. Many public networks take their username and password through the browser. Have you tried to open Safari to see if it will default to the username/password screen? I've used mine at hotels that change their access every 24 hours and if I try to log back on after the time, it defaults back to the login screen. That is the only solution that I can think of. And yes, if you go to settings and reset network settings, it will clear all of them.

  • Windows 7 Not Saving Info

How can I make it so that my Windows partition will not require me to fix the time and make ethernet the default internet access opposed to Wi FI when I boot up? Everytime I switch from OS X to Windows, it seems like I have to set all of that up again.
