Safari 5 Cannot Find Any Web Pages

We have two iMacs. My wife's is model 8,1 and is running OSX 10.5.8. My iMac is model 9,1 and is running 10.6.3. Both are Core 2 Duo. We have both downloaded Safari 5. Mine is running okay, but I cannot decide if it is slower or faster.
My wife's iMac can _no longer find any web pages_.
We are connected by standard ethernet twisted pair cables to a router, which is then connected by cable to our broadband modem.
Both of our emails work fine. Also, Firefox runs fine on both of our iMacs. For the time being, until Apple has a fix for this, or someone in the forum has a suggestion, I guess we are stuck with Firefox on my wife's iMac.
Any suggestions. Very frustrating. My wife's iMac was running fine until she downloaded Safari 5.
Best Regards
Steve

HI Steve,
On the iMac running v10.5.8...
Have her login to another user account and see if she can access web pages there. If she can, the problem is just in her Home Folder, not system wide.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.
And try cycling off the router for several minutes then turn it back on then see if she can access the net.
Try repairing disk permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If nothing above helps, install the v10.5.8 Combo Update It's ok to do this even though her Mac is already running v10.5.8.

  • Firefox 7.0.1 cannot find any net pages, so it does not work!

When installing Firefox 7.0.1 it cannot find any net pages, but runs and runs searching but cannot find. I had the same problem with latest versions of Firefox 6, but then Firefox 7.0 fi worked. I have tried to update 7.0.1 several times, both fi and US, I have uninstalled first 7.0 and then after restart installed 7.0.1 several times, but always the same problem. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate in Finnish.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Safari Wont Open Any Web Page

I just updated my Safari to 3.1.2 and now it wont open any web page. I know my system is fine as I also have Firefox and it works great. I have tried reseting Safari, emptying the cache deleting the plist, but nothing works. I have even tried deleting Safari and downloading the latest version from the apple website and re-installing it. No dice either. Safari seems to be working fine but it wont opent any website. Everything just time's out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Try this:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
If not, MacFixit have published a very detailed (very!) article on speeding up a slow Safari, here:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070416000657464
Many, including me, have also followed the advice given by others here to add DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.220
    208.67.220.222
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.

  • Safari wont load any web pages

I've been using both Safari (2.x) and Firefox in my MBP for a coupel of months w/o problems. Now all the sudden Safari will not load any web pages. FX still works ok. Has anyone had a simialr problem? It's almost like Safari doesnt recognize you are connected to the internet.

    Same thing to me!
I downloaded it 3 days ago, installed it and it never worked. The option to set up the proxy server was grayed out. My IE and firefox are working perfectly (of course I set up the proxy server on each browser), basically Safari doesn't open any web page. I'd like try this browser but I don't have idea how configure it, if anybody knows how to, I'll appreciate it.

  • Safari cannot open the web page becauseit could not connect to the server.

Hello, recently I have been trying to access a web page that I can only access if I delete the "www." in my browser before I hit the "go" button. If I do not delete the "www." I get the error message "Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server. I have tried restarting my ipad 2 by holding down the home and lock button but it has not worked, I do have 7 tabs open right now but I dont think that would be a problem would it? I have full internet access so I dont think tap hat would be it.

That didnt work :/ This website is hosted on a platform called enjin and I have noticed every enjin website is doing this to me so could it be something on there end? I havnt heard from anybody else who is having the same problem.
The website looks different from what it did before this started happening to me, here is a screenshot of what it looks like now.

When I start Safari in three of four accounts, the home page just blinks trying to open, but it never does. Safari works just fine in only one account.

    Hi Jim ...
When you have problems with Safari (or any app) in more than one user account that's an indication the startup disk needs reparing.
Since you are running Lion you need to use Lion Recovery to do that.

  • Connected to wifi network but safari can't find any web pages

my wifi connection is shown as connected but when i go to safari it says i am not connected to the internet. itunes, you tube, maps, etc. don't work either. does anyone have any ideas? i've seen suggestions on here but none seem to work for me

    emertone,
Have you tried using a static IP configuration on your iPad instead of DHCP?
Settings->General->Network->wifi-> (arrow beside the current active wifi connection)? If you see an IP address like 169.x.x.x you are having a problem with getting a DHCP lease.
First make sure that MAC address filters are not enabled on your router. If they are, disable them and see if DHCP then works. It should give you a 192.168.x.x IP address. You may need to reboot the iPad or the connection to trigger DHCP.
If it doesn't work, and you still see a 169.x.x.x IP address, select "Static" instead of "DHCP"
    - set IP to for example 192.168.0.155 (last part can be 0-255 but choose somewhere in the middle to avoid collision with DHCP assigned addresses)
    - subnet 255.255.255.0
    - router 192.168.0.1
    - dns 192.168.0.1
Depending on your router you may need to use 192.168.1 instead of 192.168.0 in the above addresses, but try 0 first

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    As Guest, test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari will not load any web pages

I choose safari and the apple home page comes up.
The problem is when I want to go to yahoo or TSN web pages they do not totally load and keeps reloading 3 or 4 times and then Safari comes up and says>
"Safari cannot display this web page"   and
"Safari has repeatedly encountered an error while trying to display"
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to correct this?

  • When I upgrade to FF 26 on my PC laptop, I am no longer able to open any web pages on any browser. Help

Whenever I upgrade to FF 26 on my pc laptop I am no longer able to open any web pages on my laptop in any browser. If I reset my system to a previous date I am good to go. Any ideas on what may be going on or how to troubleshoot it? I am not a technical person - btw

Is this happening on a computer running Windows (you posted with as Mac)?
If this is an issue on a Windows computer:

  • Safari will not open web pages on my Ipad3

In General Settings, it says there is no Network Available.  How do I fix this?

Thank You Demo for your reply.  To answer your questions:
Yes, my wireless WiFi is on.  It is working because I am using it on my laptop now to reply to you.
I only use my network in my home and it works.
I must have something set wrong on my Ipad3 Settings?
Whenever I try to use Safari, I get the message:  Safari cannot open this web page.
Also, I have disconnected the Router power (thinking the Router was bad), waited a minute, and reconnected the power.  It doesn't fix anything regarding my Ipad3.
Does this help you determine a possible solution?  I hope so!  Thanks anyway for your time and effort, if not!
