Safari 5 flash player plugin - 190% CPU usage
Hello community
Always when I watch a flash movie in Safari 5, the flash player plugin process uses between 170 and 190% of the CPU.
This is the case since some weeks, I guess (might be since the update from Safari 4 to 5). Intressting is that a flash movie played with Firefox doesn't use over 100%.
My System:
MacBookPro 8,2
Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz
8 GB RAM
OS X SnowLeopard 10.6.8 (System is up to date)
Safari:
Version 5.1.1
Shockwave Flash 11.0 r1
Adobe Flash Player Plug-In-Version 11.0.1.152 (most recent)
I have read something about fixing this ishue in Safari 4. To put the Mac to sleep and wake it up should solve this problem, but doesn't with Safari 5.
I also have uninstalled the flashplayer and reinstalled it (original from adobe) and I also have repaired permissions...
What else can be done?
I'm really looking foreward to a solution, thanks to all who help!

From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane. Test.

Flash Player Plugin pushing cpu to 100% on Laptop
I know there is many (many many) discussions on this topic, but I was hoping to get a clear answer on how to solve this issue. It seems that my issues with cpu have been going off and on for a bit now, but in the last month or so it's been practically every single day.
Within the first hour from boot up everything is okay with the videos and flash media, but after that it starts to hike up and next thing I know my cpu is at 100% and the computer is hanging and moments later it's telling me if I want to wait for the plugin to respond. If I say yes it stalls some more and then tries to keep going but it's super choppy and it makes horrible noises, if I say no then it says that the flash player plugin crashed and to refresh- just for it to go through that again. Something strange about this is that when I put my laptop into sleep mode (not shutdown) for 30 or so minutes and come back, my system drops the cpu levels and it is fine again until another hour then the whole thing starts again. I use Norton 360 so it's constantly telling me that Adobe flash is using too much cpu or firefox (browser I use) and the performance log norton has about my computer tells me that just yesterday I had a moment of being at 100% for 10 minutes straight!
I've tried seeing if it was really just firefox doing this as it does take a lot of cpu on it's own, but after going into firefox safe mode the problem with flash jumping high in cpu was still there.
Does anyone have a solution? (I'm not a tech expert, just your normal everyday user so please make it as simple as possible!)

Do you recall if this occurred with previous versions of the player? What do you see when you revert back to Flash Player 10.3? Also, do you have hardware acceleration enabled or disabled?

Flash Player Causing high CPU usage NT Kernel
Hi
I have windows 7 with Firefox 26 and noticed that the NT Kernel and system process is running my cpu at 50% - I have a dual core.
After some research and testing I have realised that it is flash causing it when a site opens like Ebay for exapmple.
If I deactivate the plugin all is fine - cpu at about 7 - 20%. Ebay etc will ask to activate the plugin and the CPU jumps.
Same thing with other flash sites. Facebook etc
No issues with the other browsers - Chrome and IE.
I have tried uninstalling flash and firefox - and then doing a clean install but not fixed.
I tried posting on the firefiox forum and they recommended to come here.

No, no, no... I mean create a new admin account JUST FOR THE PURPOSE of testing the installer. It'd be a totally blank, empty account.
THAT'S the best way to determine if your account has permissions issues. If the installer and Flash Player works, as it does on your wife's account, you'll know where the trouble lies... in your account, which may or may not mean you have to move everything over. If this isn't something "liveable", then move stuff. If it IS liveable, then I wouldn't bother. -

Flash Player plugin v10.3.183.18 not installed in old Mac OS X 10.5.8's Safari v5.0.6?

I have a client's Mac OS X 10.5.8 with all the latest updates. His Flash Player plugin v10.3.183.18 does not show up in his old Safari v5.0.6. It works fine in old Firefox v3.6.28 though. And yes, I redownloaded and reinstalled Flash Player plugin. What's wrong?

I found a Flash uninstaller from Adobe's KB web site so I downloaded it, ran it, tested to see if Firefox said no Flash (confirmed), and then reinstalled Flash but it did not fix Safari's plug-in problem. Note the last few lines. I wonder if those are causing Flash plugin not to show up in Safari. -

Seems to be happening a lot and I'm not sure if it is in any way related to MacKeeper popups I keep getting?

Hi, Suddenly my Safari started asking for Flash Player Plugin...on downloading this, the message is "Plugin not installed...Install Manually" when i go manually it just freezes.

I already have the Flash Player 11.2.202.228 plugin installed on this machine, a PC with Windows 7 ULT, because the most current versions of the Flash Player plugin had some problems and they wouldn't allow Flash content to play at all, so I reverted back to a slightly older version of the Flash Player that was reliable, crash free, and most importantly, it works.
But when I try to play any Flash content in this Tor-Firefox ESR 10.0.7 browser it tells me I don't have a Flash Player on this machine, or installed as a browser plugin or add-on, and it wants me to install the most current Flash Player on this machine, which I DO NOT want to do for the reasons I stated above.
My other Firefox browser, along with Google's newest Chrome browser and a newer version of the Safari browser for Windows, plus an older Internet Explorer 8, all WORK JUST FINE with the Flash Player 11.2.202.228 that I have installed on this computer and Google Chrome and Safari didn't even require having newer Flash Player plugins installed at all... they just see the Flash Player 11.2.202.228 plugin that I already have on this machine and they play all Flash content perfectly.
So can I just make this Tor-Firefox ESR 10.0.7 browser see the existing Flash Player 11.2.202.228 plugin that I already have on this machine?... and if so, how do I do that?

numetroYou should actually be using Flash 10.3 (11.2 is insecure).[[Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox#w_solution-2-downgrade-flash|Solution 2: Downgrade Flash]].
Also, is there a reason you are using Firefox ESR? It's mean for organizations, and doesn't include all the security and stability fixes that Firefox latest (15.0.1) has. -

I have "block pop up windows" off (safari preferences). The bottom line is I can't open PDF documents as a link from a web page. Do you have any idea why this may be occurring?

Hello. Flash Player loads the CPU of my computer to 80-100% even on slower flash applications. ALL actions of the FAQ tried. Problems are observed on all browsers (FireFox, Opera, Chrome). Is there an archive page for downloads of Flash Player plugin installers for the PORTABLE versions of web browsers like Firefox ESR?
One of my web browsers is Firefox ESR 10.0.7 and it is a PORTABLE version of Firefox that apparently needs a different Flash Player plugin than the normal Flash Player plugin that regular versions of most web browsers require.
I do not want to install the most recent Flash Player plugin PORTABLE version because I've read about problems with it and that's the only version that this Firefox ESR will give me the option to download and install when I try to install the needed Flash Player plugin through the browser.
I already know about the normal Adobe Flash Player plugin archive page, linked below, but that does not have the Flash Player plugins for PORTABLE web browsers.

Thanks again for your reply. Your solutions seemed like they might work, especially since you were able to tell me where the Windows system Flash Player plugin files are located.
And for a minute or two, I thought it was working. In my first tests in the PORTABLE Firefox browser I'm testing with, it was actually playing some YouTube videos, but then I found that not all YouTube videos apparently rely on Flash to play... apparently some do and some do not, and I found that most of them do require Flash to play. I had tested with some of my own videos that I uploaded to YouTube in the past in my first tests today and they played just fine, but then I started testing with some other Flash YouTube videos and they would not play and I got both the yellow bar at the top of my window telling me to download and install Flash as well as the red banner across the video player that told me I needed to install Flash.
Let me also make it clear that I'm testing this on other sites with Flash videos besides YouTube, and webpages that have relatively simple animated Flash graphics, and those alternate tests are showing that the Flash Player plugin for this PORTABLE Firefox still will not work either.
So to spite everything, I tried actually downloading and installing the newest Flash Player plugin, 11.4 something, (which I was trying to avoid) through the browser, and that only proceeded to overwrite my Windows system Flash Player plugin and it DID NOT place any Flash Player plugin files in the PORTABLE Firefox plugins folder.
I had pasted in the files you recommended in to the PORTABLE Firefox plugins folder, and I actaully included ALL the files from that Windows system Flash plugin folder for this test, but unfortunately that didn't work, and even after I tried changing the name of that one file, it still didn't work.
And I am closing and re-opening the browser in between each of these steps in my test.
So here, below, I'm including an email letter that I've now written to a Tor Browser support email address where I had been corresoponding previously. I've now tried everything and I cannot get ANY Flash content to play in this Tor-Firefox ESR web browser, even though I've tried installing the Flash player plugin that this browser asks for when I'm on a YouTube page (and even though this computer already had a current Flash Player plugin installed previously).
Let me make it clear that privacy is not important to me right now during this quest to make the Flash Player plugin work with this Tor browser... I can reset any settings for maximum privacy later when I go back to that purpose for using Tor... right now, I'm just trying to make the Tor browser play Flash content.
So even though I've UNCHECKED the Torbutton>Preferences>Security Settings>Disable plugin during Tor usage box, and I installed a new Flash player plugin THROUGH this browser, and I even set it to allow all scripts because I thought maybe that was complicating things, IT STILL WILL NOT PLAY FLASH CONTENT OF ANY TYPE.
Now, this, explained below, could be part of the problem that I'd like to ask for your help or SOMEONE's help with there in your department...
If I go to the Tor Browser folder on my hard drive at C:>Tor Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins there are NO Flash plugin files that show up in that folder even after I install a new Flash Player plugin THROUGH this browser... I believe that is why it will not play Flash content.
All it does when I install a Flash Player plugin through this Tor browser is to overwrite my Windows 7 system Flash Player plugin, but it does not actually place any Flash Player plugin files in the C:>Tor Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins folder, so that's why this PORTABLE version of the Firefox ESR browser will not play any Flash content... and it doesn't work from the Windows system Flash Player plugin the way that my normal Firefox (NON-TOR) web browser does. My other Firefox web browser sees the the Windows system Flash Player plugin just fine and it does play Flash content correctly.
There is, however, one text file that comes stock inside the Tor browser plugins folder and when it is opened it says, "Place Firefox plugins in this directory (Flash, Shockwave, etc)".
So with some advice from someone on the Adobe help forum, I tried copying the Flash Player plugin files from the Windows system folder at C:>Windows>System32>Macromed>Flash in to the Tor browser plugins folder at C:>Tor Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, and that still didn't work.
Note that I am closing and re-opening the Tor browser between each of these tests.
So I then followed some further advice from the expert on the Adobe help forum and I changed the name of the main Flash Player plugin file that I had copied and pasted in to the Tor browser plugins folder from "NPSWF32_11_4_402_278.dll" to "NPSWF32.dll", and that still did not work... note that I left all the other files that I copied and pasted from the Windows system Flash plugins folder with the same name they originally had... I tried only changing that one Flash plugin file name, as instructed by the expert on the Adobe help forum.
I also tried posting a question about this on the Mozilla Firefox forum, but no one there is able to answer this question.
What the problem seems to be is that when this Tor-Firefox ESR 10.0.7 browser installs a Flash Player plugin, it just installs it to the Windows system folder (the same way that the normal (non-Tor) Firefox browser does) and NOT into the Tor-Firefox plugins folder C:>Tor Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, as would be needed for it to be able to play Flash content.
No matter what I do, whenever I try to view a YouTube video or any Flash video in this browser, or any Flash graphic content at all, I get the yellow bar at the top of the page that says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page - Install Missing Plugins" and there is a banner displayed where the Flash content is supposed to be that says, "The Adobe Flash Player is required for video playback - Get the latest Flash Player".
And as I explained at the top of this email, I have already installed and re-installed the Flash Player plugin on this computer multiple times, including doing it directly through this Tor-Firefox ESR browser itself.
So can ANYONE there tell me how to get the correct Flash Player plugin files in to the Tor-Firefox browser plugins folder at C:>Tor Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, and where do I get those files? Everything I've tried, which is pretty extensive, has not worked, and it seems that someone there should know about this.

Flash Player.plugin on Mac OS X causes a plugin [195.165.205.181] to start
Whenever I have the Flash Player.plugin in the Libraries/Internet Plugins folder on my iMac, this shows in the privacy->cookies/plugins

I narrowed it down to flash by moving all plugins out of that folder and restoring them one at a time. Once I narrowed it down to flash, I deleted the Adobe Flash folder and the re-installed Flash from a current download at get.adobe.com.
As soon as I restart Safari, that IP address is back. As soon as I remove the Flash Player.plugin from the folder, it goes away.
Any ideas?To update, downgraded Flash Player to version 9 r151 and all
issues with crashing browsers are resolved. Same problems with
permissions being off after a fresh install of 9 r151. So the
conclusion must be that the problems arise with Flash Player 10
itself. -
Flash Player using high CPU constantly and heating system
Hi I am in India ... from last few months I am noticing that Flash Player is using too much CPU when ever I run IE, Explorer or opera ... when I disable Flash Player then IE and opera work on normal CPU ... I have uninstalled Chrome since I was unable to disable flash player on it ... I have 2nd generation i5 .. 3gb ram ... dedicated 1gb nvidia graphics card ... 750 Gb hdd ... win7 home premium 64 bit ... Hi ... I use admin account only to install new software or games ... for all other uses I log in as an ordinary account
But even when logged in with admin account the same prb persists ... cause of this flash player prb I have even stopped playing games on FB & Zynga ...
For this flash player problem I even took it to acer service center and since I have extended service warranty the engineers there ran acomplete check on ram, hdd, graphic card and they also did a complete fresh install of win 7 home premium 64 bit edition. They even completely serviced it, cleaned it and applied new thermal paste ... but even they were baffled that my system can stand up to high intensity graphic games running from HDD or DVD rom or USB pen drive but if I try to run graphic flash player games for long ie castleville or watch a long movie on you tube then flash player can single handedly cause CPU usage to be constantly high leading to system getting heated up.
Guess will just have to be content without flash ... but some sites require flash player to be enabled and therein lies the problem

ik merkte dat mijn laptop af en toe moeite had met als ik bijvoorbeeld op youtube zat, ik dacht wat zou het kunnen zijn en toen viel mij op dat bij het taakbeheer 2x de flash player plugin stond vermeld. aangezien deze veel van m'n cpu gebruiken is dit niet altijd gemakkelijk. ik heb firefox al eens volledig verwijderd inclusief de addons/plugins en deze opnieuw geinstalleerd echter blijft de flash player plugin telkens als ik firefox start 2x terugkomen in mijn taakbeheer.. wie o wie kan mij hiermee helpen?!
