Safari 6.0.5 Broken

Can anyone test this page and see if you can close the pop up box? I can't close it in Safari, but I can in Firefox.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57606004-37/apple-releases-os-x-mavericks-gold en-master-to-developers/
Safari doesn't work on about a third of the sites I visit, including playing video on the NY Times website. Anyone else having this level of failure? I have all the lastest updates of flash, etc.
Thanks for any help.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. This very, very buggy version of Safari has made this update of OS X the worst I've ever experienced.
Is there a way of doing a clean install of Safari 7 or the entire Mavericks update from Mountain Lion 10.8.5?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions/advice.

I figured out my same problem! I had Glims installed. If you do also, try this.
You can download an uninstaller here:
    http://www.machangout.com/node/9
After you mount it, and click the uninstaller, it says it won't work because it's an unidentified developer. So you have to right click and do Open, and then it will give you the option to open.
After I uninstalled it, Safari 7.0 works fine!

  • Safari 5.1 completely broken under Lion

After what I thought was a smooth upgrade to Lion on my 27" iMac I now and stuffed
Safari will not load webpages. It just sits there with a small bit of blue in the url bar
It is not an internet problem as Opera works fine from this Mac.
I ahve reset safari and cleared the cache..still no joy.
    Any help appreciated
    Dave

I would submit that your assertion that no one can use Safari in Lion is a misnomer. I have been using it just fine since my upgrade to Lion last night.  I am going to have to figure out how to selectively turn off Resume for Safari, but other then that, I have had no issues with Safari 5.1.
Any sort of discussion group on the Internet is going to be rife with the complainers, luddites, and those who did not read before taking the upgrade.  To be certain, there will be those with genuine problems or questions about how to do something. But, to use this data to assume that no one can use Safari is gross hyperbole and a mis-statement of the issue.
Now, to be sure, Apple will have to look at the data coming in from users who have upgraded to Lion or Safari 5.1 on Snow Leopard and if the see some issues there, I am sure they will address them as soon as they can.
To that end, I would encourage any one with real issues to submit that to Apple Support as well as submit their feedback directly to Apple via the established feedback system.

  • Can you help me with problems from latest update of Safari and ITunes.  I can no longer delete cookies as I once did, because the security tab no longer displays the show cookies option. Can anyone please help?

I can no longer show or delete cookies from my MacBook Pro, since installing the latest update of Safari and Itunes..  Previously, I went to the security tab and clicked on the show cookies option, then opted to delete..  That option has now diappeared and a completely different security tab appears.  The tab does not show a cookies option anywhere.
Also, I can no longer see a list of my software applications without opening system profiler.
Sure would appreciate your help.  Thanks.

Safari's cookies is broken, either intentionally or it's a bug.

  • Flash with QT 7.3 works in Safari, but not in Firefox

Like many others here, I have been having issues with the upgrade to QT 7.3 and Flash. I've followed a few different suggestions from here on the forums, but I've only been able to get Flash working in Safari; Firefox remains mysteriously broken. Has anyone else been having issues with Flash in Firefox only?
I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.9 and Flash 9.0.47 (the latest version available for download from Adobe's site). I'm planning on upgrading to 10.5.1 soon, and while I didn't see the Flash/QT problem addressed in the list of bugs that it was supposed to fix, I still wonder if that might help.

Well, after about five hours retracing my steps, I finally figured out the offending code - it was the submit button.
    On this page:
    http://www.goodsafariguide.com/consumer_add_query/index.php
    It works fine with:
    <input type="submit" name="KT_Insert1" id="KT_Insert1" value="Post your query" />
    But on this page:
    http://www.goodsafariguide.com/consumer_add_query/indexb.php
It only works in Safari with:
    <input name="KT_Insert1" type="image" id="KT_Insert1" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('KT_Insert1','','../images/buttons/post_enquiry2.jpg',1)" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" value="Post your query" src="../images/buttons/post_enquiry1.jpg" border="0" />
As its now nearly 2:30am, I'm not going to try to figure why that should be right now.
Its nothing if not frustrating sometimes, this web design lark!

  • Safari downgrade from 3 to 2 problems?

I recently upgraded to the Safari version 3 beta and found it to be too buggy - especially as regards its inability to handle PDFs and the fact that it is incompatible with eBay UK - and I finally had to give up on it, uninstall and go back to version 2.
Now I find that pages on my own website, which redirect to a login page, which worked flawlessly before, now do not work at all and I get this error: "The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005)"
Does anyone know if downgrading back to version two causes problems, because now my beloved Safari seems to be broken!?
    Cheers,
    PeteBell UK

    Hi
The "error" message for Apple Discussions is a problem that has been going on for the past month. After logging-in, the Error page appears. Go back to the original URL and select it again. The correct page will now load.
Specific to your other problem, back to the Finder, drag to the desktop the com.apple.safari.plist folder found in your User Account>Library>Preferences folder.
Restart Safari. Select your URL. If this works you'll need to reset your Safari preferences to your liking, plus any custom settings found in the Edit Menu (spelling) or View Menu (status bar, bookmarks bar, custom icons in the "Customize Address Bar" ).
Otherwise, move the original file on your desktop back to its original location.

  • Safari 3.0.4 quits on OS X 10.4.11

yesterday I get the update to Mac OSX 10.4.11 (yes I am still running Tiger, and I am happy with it).
Unfortunately the software updater didn't mention that Safari will be upgraded too. So I was supprised to the Safari starting in German AND that my 'New-Tab-button' was missing.
I ran SafariEnhancer just to add this Tab button again. But after this Safari didn't start anymore it just quits
How can I get the latest copy of Safari to install on my Mac again?
    Thanks ueli
ps. every other browser I am running does have a New-Tab button, why is this missing in Safari?
thanks to these "other browsers" I can write this message, I think I will have to rely on these more than on Safari.

    Hello,
It is your use of Safari Enhancer that has broken Safari. It tweaks some of the internals of Safari which in turn causes the 10.4.11 updater to mis-behave resulting in a broken Safari.
Download the 10.4.11 combo updates for your relevant machines (via the Downloads link at the top of this page) and then download [Pacifist|www.charlessoft.com].
Use Pacifist to extract the Safari 3 package from the combo update and use that to replace the broken application. (Pacifist's website has some good docs if you're not sure how to use it).
What dissapoints me is the fact that Apple forces Safari 3 in such a way (software updater listed about 5 packages) hidden in a System-udate
I realise you're disappointed things aren't working, but please note that this update was not hidden. The notes for the 10.4.11 update in Software Update clearly stated that Safari 3 was included - I don't think would stop the majority from updating but it wasn't hidden

  • Wrong forum, but can't access correct one - need help with Safari

I'm sorry to post this here, but the link to the Safari discussion forum is broken - I've tried it about 10 times!
I've been having trouble with Safari 1.3, which quit every time I navigated to a page using a certain type of code (I don't know what it was, maybe Java or Flash?) Anyway, I downloaded the Safari 3 Universal version in the hope of improving it, but unfortunately that has completely killed off both Safari itself and Mail. I couldn't even use Firefox or Internet Explorer, although other programs such as Word and Photoshop were working fine. Trashing Safari and everything I could find related to it meant that Firefox would work (I'm using that now), but I still can't start Mail. I assume Mail needs Safari to be installled in order to work?
I've tried to download Safari 1 again, but can only find links to download the 1.3 Updater, not the program itself. Of course, the Updater won't install because there's no previous version to load it onto. Can anyone help me with a suggestion as to where I go from here, please? I'd be hugely grateful, I don't mind not having Safari but I do really need to use Mail.
    Thank you!
    - Kitty

There are many, many millions of defective, nonstandard web sites, as a brody points out. You could, if you wished, make a crusade of asking their developers to make them accessible in every antique web browser: a crusade for which you would be rewarded with a brody's undying admiration, most of those incompetent website developers' annoyance, and nothing else.
If instead you would rather just visit the sites and see what you can see of them, use Camino or Opera — the only up-to-date browsers that will run in OS X 10.3.9. Mozilla FireFox 2.0.20 will indeed run in your OS version, but it "is no longer supported and contains known security vulnerabilities" according to the Mozilla website. The more recent updates of FireFox (3.0 through 3.0.10) require OS X 10.4 or better.

  • Safari 5.0 AutoFill for Forms not working

Safari 5.0 has broken the way AutoFill for forms works. I couldn't figure out why it kept entering inaccurate data on forms that I had previously filled out. I have the checkbox next to Other Forms checked (as well as the other two boxes for Address Book and User Names/Passwords). But it seemed to be pulling data from my Address Book INSTEAD of from forms I had previously filled out. To test it, I turned off the Address Book checkbox which resulted in it not AutoFilling anything at all.
In 4.0 and previous versions, From Forms took priority over from Address Book. That's no longer the case and, in fact, From Forms doesn't seem to be working at all.
Is there some cache file I should trash, or is this just another 5.0 bug?
    Other observations about 5.0:
It's visibly slower than 4.0 (on a Mac Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.5.8).
Some pages refuse to load at all (http://www.radaronline.com/giveaways crashes every time; http://freebieswamp.com/game/index.php and http://tlc.discovery.com/sweepstakes/style-getaway/entryform.html load but their forms don't work; a few other pages just hang)
Haven't noticed any improvements (and wish I had stuck with 4.0).

    HI,
Haven't noticed any improvements (and wish I had stuck with 4.0).
The first link you provided is outdated as far as web standards go. I checked the site with W3C Validator and it came up with numerous errors: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.radaronline.com%2Fgiveaways&c harset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
As an aside. Sites with "giveaways" are notorious for malware.
If it were me, in this case, I would keep Safari 5 for the security and privacy it provides. Reverting to a prior version merely for accessing sweepstakes sites in my opinion is a total waste of time.
*You can revert to 4.0.5 if you wish but definitely try troubleshooting Safari 5 first.*
First, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and move the "cache.db" file to the Trash. ~ (Tilde) represents your Home Folder. Relaunch Safari. *That may make the difference*, if not....
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons and click Reset.
Relaunch Safari. If it functions as it should, great but if not...
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If it isn't third party plugins, troubleshoot the Safari .plist file.
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.
And if you didn't repair disk permissions after the update was installed, try that.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Now if you still want to revert to Safari 4.0.5, that's entirely up to you. Go here for instructions. http://appletoolbox.com/2010/06/downgrade-from-safari-5-0-to-safari-4-0-5/
If you decide to revert to a prior version of Safari, make sure and backup all your important data first.

  • Blackboard and Safari

My school just upgraded to Blackboard 7.1 and now Safari is almost completely broken for content creation. (It works okay for viewing -- haven't tried it extensively.) Menubars in Blackboard do not show up, content disappears, etc., etc.
    It works fine in Firefox.
I thought Safari was supposed to adhere to the "Standards". Yet, it is just the lack of adherence that the campus support people point to when asked.
Is a disagreement about what those "Standards" are, or is Apple just not paying attention?
    Thanks
    Glenn

I suspect that it is Blackboard that is not fully adhering to the standards. Send feedback to Blackboard and in the meantime use Firefox.
My school uses WebCT which behaves nicely in Safari, but I hate to think what will happen when WebCT becomes fully merged into Blackboard.
And, yes, the Safari team is paying attention and they have a program in place to fix bugs that surface and to work with web developers to help them make their sites more standards-compliant. Look at the Safari Compatibility Hit List for more information.

  • Safari has been failing me... among other things

I'm seeing a lot of topics about Safari and I don't know if my problem is related but here it is anyway. Safari is just plain broken. Before it would quit unexpectedly after a long period of time (4+ hours or so) but now it just conks out as soon as I start it up. It also "feels" slow and grindy and slows other processes down in the 30 seconds it takes to display my homepage before crashing.
I've been using Firefox in the mean time and am finding it very unpleasant after being spoiled by Safari. It's slow and is draining what little resources I have (256mb RAM)
    What is wrong?

    Lost Network Connection | Safari & iMail | AppleTalk & TCP/IP O.K.
Well ... all of a sudden my iMail and Safari will not connect to the internet.
I can see other Macs on the network.
I can use the same iMail account settings on other Mac's O.K. and other Mac's can browse the internet O.K.
So it's a sudden local Mac problem, not a network or SMTP thing.
    Any ideas anyone?
Has Safari or iMail suddenly broken and one effects the other?

Turns out the 'node' on the hub had failed completely, ethernet cable was OK.

  • Quicktime plugin pt_br doesn't works

    Hello,
Sorry my poor english. I'm trying the best way/form to explain the problem
Quicktime pt_br version has an error in your translation. The plugin MIME types have been translated! (vídeo/quicktime instead of video/quicktime, for example. or imagem/jpg instead of image/jpg) and won't load on any browser except for Opera (Safari, Firefox... NOT).
Follow the link above to view a discussion and fixes posted by a user for the problem:
    http://macmagazine.com.br/forum/index.php?showtopic=8575
That works for me on Safari, but Firefox stills broken.
    about:plugins shows this:

My english is poor too, sorry , but I've got the same problem.
Try to disable your localization on the Safari:
Press right button on Safari icon.
    Choose Properties
Choose Localization (or Languages - i don't remember)
Switch off your system language checkbox (Russian in my case).
    Start the Safari.
My problem was solved, but i'm waiting for Apple resolving of this problem...
    Best wishes, Andrey.
