  • Safari 4.0.3 Develop menu user agent default

I have noticed that whenever a new window is opened the user agent defaults to "Mozilla/4.0(compatible-MSIE 6.0 Windows NT 5.1-SV1-.NET CLR 1.1.4322".
Can I change the default to safari 4.0.3-Mac?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions
That setting ought to appear as "Default Automatically Chosen". May be corrupted preference file. In the Finder, go to Your User Account>Library>Preferences. There, move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari.
On the restart Safari creates a new preference file, so all settings are returned to default values. Therefore, you'll need to reset your Safari preferences to your liking, plus any custom settings found in the Edit Menu (spelling) or View Menu (status bar, Address bar, custom icons in the "Customize Address Bar" ). The Develop menu is not part of the default settings. To activate it, go to the Safari Preferences in the Safari Menu and select the Advanced panel. There, you'll see at the bottom the option to activate it.

    Hi,
I've installed pure Leopard 10.5.6, upgraded to 10.5.7, installed safari 4, and the Developer menu (with great inspector and all things) is just missing. Where can I activate it please?

    Safari Preferences/Advanced.
Tick the box 'Show Develop Menu in menu bar'.

  • Safari 5.0 - Disable local file restrictions Option not found under Develop Menu

    Hi All,
My system specs are as follows :
    Platform : Linux
    OS : lubuntu
OS Version : 13.10 Saucy Salamander
    Browser : Safari 5.0
I need to open a html file in Safari before which I need to enable this option - "Disable local file restrictions" under Develop menu as available in Safari 7.0 for OS X Marvericks.
Problem here is I am not able to find this option in Safari 5.0, also I am not able to find any way to upgrade Safari in Linux.
Please suggest how can I activate this.

Safari->Preferences->Advance->on the bottom. To get the Debug menu which includes a listing of Keyboard & Mouse Shortcuts, among other useful things, run this in the Terminal app and quit & relaunch Safari:
    *defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 1*

  • Develop menu missing

I would like to monitor the activity of Safari 5.0.5, and am running OS X 10.5.8 with original 512 megs of RAM but cannot seem to find the Develop menu.  Heck, I can't even find the Web inspector.
    What am I doing wrong?
The HELP menu suggests the following:
    1.   Open the website, and then choose Develop > Show Web Inspector but this option is not available to me, and I cannot find the Web Inspector.
The HELP menu then says:   NOTE:   If the Develop menu does not appear in the menu bar, open Safari preferences, click Advanced, and select "Show Develop menu in menu bar."    But I attempted to do that, and still can't find the Develop menu in menu bar.   Where is it?
So far as I can tell, there is neither a Develop menu, nor a Web inspector.
It took me 9 days of downloading to get OS X 10.5.8 to install.   I have had lots of difficulty burning a backup copy of OS X 10.5.8.    I don't want to flush it out of my Mac mini, which I suppose is possible if I open up my Mac mini, and pull the RAM chips out, or whatever it is you do for a true cold reset.   There should be an easier way to start from square 1.

I am still having trouble finding it.    I am assuming you mean Safari Preferences, rather than System Preferences?
So far as I can tell, the Web Inspector doesn't exist in any of the options under Safari Preferences, and it doesn't exist under any of the options under System Preferences, either.   Neither of them.   You included a graphic that appears to represent a top-bar that exists on your computer, but not on mine.   I am still trying to "enable" the Develop menu, and there isn't anywhere I can do that.
Yes, I understand you are supposed to look for "Advanced" but it helps to be a little more accurate for me.   I come from the side of reality where everybody used to type everything.   I still find moving a mouse to be a little confusing and unnatural to me.   Help!

Safari problem:  when I switch back into safari from another application, the menu bar comes up but no tabs or windows.  What's going on?  Just started yesterday.  I have found a workaround: when I Command Tab back to safari, I hit command T to open a new tab and Command W to close it, and my other tabs are visible.
I have tried shutting down, closing tabs, with no success.  What's going on and how can I fix it?
    Thanks,
    Cindi B
PS:  I'm not sure of the actual OS level, but I have not allowed it to upgrade to Maverick yet; concerned about it because of a few things I've read...

A Safari extension or third party plugin may be causing the menu bar issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
As for which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
    The version is noted there.
v10.6 Snow Leopard v10.7 Lion  v10.8 Mountain Lion
It's your choice whether or not to upgrade to Mavericks. If you decide to do this, make sure your Mac meets the requirements noted here.

Can you see the images/previews while in Library?
Are there any question marks on the previews and/or on the folders in the left folder panel?
What happens if you click on a photo in the filmstrip while in the Develop module?
What type of images? From what camera?

  • Safari 3.1.2  (525.21) Develop menu

Develop - show web inspector, show error console, show network timeline. any of these work.

    Thanks, Reverse_Pan
My windows Vista is up-to-date, I have not installed windowblinds, before I installed the safari for developer version 4.526.12.2 and these options work okay, the reason because I went back to 3.1.2 (525.21) is because the option to save or open Downloads has been removed in this version. But now show web inspector, error console and network timeline are not working at all, only snippet editor works ok.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Cannot disable Developer Menu in Safari. No option in Preferences/Advanced

The option has vanished. This option really interferes with 1Passwd's fill shortcut (⌘-\) instead loading Page Load Test. (really annoying)
    Here is screencap:
    What happened to the option????

Have you tried updating to 3.1.2? It's included as part of the 10.5.4 Combo Update.
You could also quit Safari and use this Terminal command to turn it off:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDevelopMenu -bool false

  • Pointless change to Safari 6.1 pop-up menu for links

Can somebody please put the adults back in charge of OS development at Apple? This morning I was prompted to install the latest OS update, which includes a new version of Safari (6.1). Almost immediately I noticed this change to the order of items in the pop-up menu when you right-click a link: the position of the first two items is switched. That may seem like a trivial change, but if you're accustomed to opening different types of links in new tabs or new windows, then you've established a bit of muscle memory in your mouse hand, which is now thrown off by the change: you'll instinctively choose the wrong item. One of the basic principles of software usability is that you leverage the learned behaviors of your users, you don't turn them into obstacles.

It seems somebody at Apple strongly believes the UI must be tabbed for all things you do. I feel we're told "don't use windows if you can use tabs". Well, I won't be using tabs (neither in Safari, nor Finder, nor nothing), because they waste a precious line of display space.
Too much silly things done in OSX since Lion. As the OP said, please put adults back in charge of OS development. Thanks.
Big thanks also to MacOsX for sharing his (working) solution for this Safari bug (yes, it's a bug)

Safari: When opening Safari it sticks on Top Sites, Menu Bar will NOT respond to inputs and wheel spins indefiantly.  Can someone assist? (I am using OS X Lion 10.7.5 on Macbook Pro)

If you updated to 6.1 & the problems began then - you might have Glims installed...

If not, test briefly in a new or Guest user account on your computer.
