Safari 6.0 default font

Safari 6.0 has a default text font that looks like courier 12.
I can find no way to change this to something I find easier to read.
Any suggestions?

Macintouch.com suggests using a style sheet (CSS):
In Safari Preferences > Advanced, you can select a "style sheet" - for example, a file called myprefs.css that specifies your CSS style choices (as in the sample below, which specifies several non-serif fonts and a larger-than-normal font size). -Ric Ford]
[myprefs.css]
  body
    font-family:Geneva,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;
    font-size: 1.5em;

  • Default Font in Safari Won't Change After Upgrade to Leopard

    Hey - I just upgraded my iMac from Tiger to Leopard and everything went great; however, when I use Safari, my default font is something random. I tried changing it to anything different but it stays the same (in Safari>Pref's>Appearance). I even tried re-installing it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    We're left with two things, both of which may be somewhat time-consuming.
    The first is to use the new user account you created and migrate all your programs and settings that work over to it, and then delete the old user account, or:
    Do an Archive & Install, with Preserve Users and Network Settings. This will give you a completely new installation of 10.5 and move the old one to a folder named Previous System, which you can then delete. All your users and network settings will be preserved, but you will need to use Software Update afterward to bring your system current.

  • How to set default font color in Pages

    I don't know why. I did a standard clean install of iWork 08. In Pages, everytime I select to insert a text box, the color of the font defaults to brown rather than black. It's a pain to change it to black all the time. Also I noticed that when I select to insert a line, it also defaults to brown. Any thoughts on why this is happening as the default color and how to fix it?
    Also, almost evertime I do the option click on the text box icon to draw a text box, the cursor changes to the crosshair but the box allows me to draw the with size, but the length of the column automatically can't be drawn- it extends instead all the way off the bottom of the page. In other words I can't really draw the text box to the size I need. I'm new to Pages.

  • Problem with Arial/ default font

    I don't know if Mac has a default font option, but I hope they do! Last week I was working as usual when I noticed some websites were not displaying correctly. After some investigation, I realized it was my Arial font. It happens in Word and Acrobat also. What it looks like is that my default Arial font was replaced with another font. When I go to Font Book or the Fonts folder and look at my Arial font, though, it is fine. I did install some fonts recently, as I have done in the past, and this is the first time I have seen such a problem. I am content with just changing my default font to something else, if I could figure out how! Thanks.

    If you did an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard it is not uncommon to have some minor font problems and possibly one or more major problems.
    Click on Go>Applications>Font Book.
    In Font Book choose All Fonts in the 1st column, then click into the second column.
    Check for a black dot to the right of any of the fonts in the list in the second column.
    If there are any dots the click on Edit>Select All.
    Next Edit>Resolve Duplicates.
    Next File>Validate Fonts.
    Wait until it checks all the fonts and it will tell you how many have major problems and how many have minor problems.
    If you have a fairly significant number of problems you should probably reinstall the System Fonts.
    You can do that with an archive and install but there is an easier way.
    In Safari search for Pacifist.
    Download it.
    Insert your Leopard install disk while it is downloading.
    Run Pacifist and choose to have it Open Apple Install Disks.
    It will reveal the contents of the install disk.
    The fonts are located by going to Contents of EssentialSystemSoftware>Contents of BaseSystem.pkg>System>Library>Fonts.
    Click on the Fonts folder to choose it and then click on Install in the upper left corner
    This will reinstall the System Fonts and overwrite its folder.
    It will ask you if you want to overwrite the fonts, choose yes and tell it not to ask you again.
    After the reinstall, restart your computer.
    The go to Applications and run Font Book again.
    Select the second column by clicking into it and then choosing Select All from the Edit menu.
    Choose Resolve Duplicates from the Edit menu.
    Select Validate fonts from the File menu and put a checkmark to the left of any problem fonts.
    Choose Remove Checked.

  • "enlarge default font size"

    Between early cataracts and not being able to get computer glasses made right.  I am tryingn to figure out how to enlarge the default font size for text in all (most?) of Safari.  When I click on the "make the font larger" feaure [A/A], it makes headlines scream and doesn't do all that much for reading.
    If I am finding the correct place at which one would normall deal with it, the alternatives that seem to work best  for me have disappeared.  I believe I had set it manually set to 15, but once I tried to change it, it would only go back to up to 14 and then 18, which is too big.   It would be great if someone could help me with this.  Thanks.
    I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and am almost sorry I upgraded.

    Ronald P. Regensburg wrote at MacInTouch:
    These Terminal commands allow you to change the fonts and sizes in Safari 6 in Mountain Lion. You might have to empty caches (enable Develop menu in Safari 6) to see the result and remove the css setting (to "nothing selected"). Font names with spaces need to be between quotation marks. Change yours accordingly.
    Full example for proportional font:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2StandardFontFamily 'Lucida Grande'
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFontSize 14
    Full example for fixed width font:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2FixedFontFamily Monaco
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFixedFontSize 11
    For my settings
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2StandardFontFamily Times
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFontSize 14
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2FixedFontFamily Courier
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFixedFontSize 14

  • Increase default font size??

    Hi,
    I'm using a Macbook Pro running at 1920 x 1200. The real estate is perfect for when I'm using Final Cut Studio but there's a huge problem. The font sizes are tiny. Is there any way to increase the default OS X font size?
    Thanks

    I'm looking for a way to increase size of the default font of MacOSX.
    I have tried to decrease resolution, that increase character size but all is fuzy.
    I have tried the zoom featured but it is the same problem.
    For some application, like Safari 4.0, this feature exists. I need the same for the finder, the menu bar, the default of other application...
    In MS Windows, I simply changed the dpi of the screen.
    How can I do to increase font size without a fuzy screen ?
    the general answer is: you can't. it will be possible once resolution independence is fully supported. it exists in leopard but is so extremely buggy that I don't even want to explain how to use it. it might be better implemented in snow leopard once it comes out. in the meantime you can use TinkerTool to change SOME fonts.

  • Safari wont use chosen font

    Hello,
    I am trying to make a new website, using css. I have specified the font names in the style sheet but the fonts do not display in safari as they do in the font book - safari will just use the default font.
    I am unsure whether these are fonts that i have downloaded, but i wouldnt have thought that Safari can only display original fonts?
    Curiously, Firefox can display the fonts correctly.
    here is an excerpt of my css:
    h6 {
    color: #666666;
    font-family: "Alien League";
    font-size: 12pt;
    text-align: center;
    Any help (or an explanation of how to determine which fonts can be displayed!) would be gratefully received.
    Thanks,
    Chris Barrington

    After a bit of time Safari will quit.

  • Does anyone know what the default font is for MacMail?

    Does anyone know what the default font is for the Mail program? My son changed my mail font and I want to change it back, but I can't remember what the original default is! Anyone? Thanks!

    I rarely use Mail (normally use Gmail in Safari) so I am 99.99% sure mine is still at the default. It is Helvetica 12.

  • American Typewriter Condensed = default font?

    Sometime in the last few weeks something strange has happened to my operating system: the default font in some dialog boxes (not all) and on many web pages as displayed by Safari (v4.0.4) and/or Camino (2.0.1) is American Typewriter Condensed. Conversely, the same web pages as displayed by Opera (v10.10) show the same text displayed with Arial or Helvetica (can't tell which).
    Among other problems, the American Typewriter Condensed (ATC) font doesn't display many HTML entities correctly, which makes viewing some pages difficult.
    I have removed the ATC dfont from the system with Linotype FontExplorer X, rebooted the machine and the problem persists.
    I'd appreciate any clues as to how to solve this problem.
    Thanks.

    Font Book -- doh!
    I'm so used to dealing with just Linotype FontExplorer X that I completely forgot about Font Book (hanging head in shame).
    I found a number of damaged fonts in the FontExplorer directory using FontBook and threw them away; further, there was another version of American Typerwriter squirreled away in there that FontExplorer didn't seem to know about (but then again, I guess it did) and once I put it in the Trash (and, after rebooting, finally got the Trash to empty, as the system warned me that other American Typerwriter was being used) and rebooted once again, I finally have gotten rid of the problem.
    Thanks for uttering the phrase "Font Book."

  • Safari Doesn't Accept Fonts I Set

    Whenever I go to the Appearance tab in Preferences I set the fonts for something other than default, yet even after I save it, the fonts are still the default set. Anyone know why this happens, and how I can override the default? Thanks.

    Steven --
    I don't know of a way to do that, really, in Safari.
    The programmers of the sites usually determine what font is to be seen.
    It could be that there is a way to set CSS style sheet preferences
    (In Safari > Preferences > Style Sheet) but I'm not positive.
    Changing the default fonts in Safari generally doesn't do much, AFAIK.
    I pay a lot of attention to fonts, but I decided that changing fonts that the programmer
    has spent hours on, in terms of size, line returns, etc., just isn't worth it, IMHO.
    There is an easy way to increase the size of the fonts. But it doesn't seem that that's your primary goal.

  • Help! Where'd my default fonts go?

    We use FontReserve at work (which I loathe). And a few weeks ago I opened a Quark file and BAM! ...all my resident Mac programs went wacky: Mail, AddressBook, iCal, Safari... And they stayed that way even after I closed the file, closed Quark, and even turned off all the fonts in FR.
    I told our IT guys that I thought FR had over-rode Apple's default font(s). But they went ahead and did all sorts of deleting and replacing... and now, everything is even more wacky!
    I can turn on headers in Mail without TONS of space in between them (I have to scroll for days just to read an email), and the only message font I can choose from is Monaco (yuk). AddressBook, iCal and Safari are readable, but look very weird... the font is strangly thin, and there are no bolds or italics to be found.
    All I want is to have my default Apple fonts back!
    Help?
    tia,
    e

    The advice about Pacifist on the FAQ was right-on. I grabbed my Tiger install DVD, used Pacifist to extract JUST the original font folders, and it automatically installed them in the right places... and VIOLA! All good!
    Turns out, my IT peeps had erased the Helvetica! ...Um, thanks guys?
