Safari 6 for Windows PC?

I was waiting for new OSX version in hope that Apple will update the Safar for PC, similar to competitor Google Chrome, with omni bar, sand boxing etc. To my surprise the Apple remove the latest Safar for windows PC. Why apple stops the refinement of safari for PC?

I am not speculating, but it's quite obvious that Safari for Windows did not had a large install base compared to other third party browsers in the Windows world. Apple wanted to push Webkit as the largest internet rendering engine and part of that plan was to make Safari for Windows in 2007. I think Apple had hoped that Safari would become the most popular Webkit web browser, however Google Chrome made the environment for Safari very difficult since Chrome was far more sucessful in user adoption and in my opinion cannibalized Safari's market share and any of its prospective users. In addition to the Chrome factor, me having used Safari for Windows it always felt as an awkward experience and as such I think it also lured away Windows Safari users. Personally, I started using Chrome on my Windows PC but kept using Safari on the Mac just because it felt right and like how it behaven on my MacBook Pro which was better than Chrome in some aspect. With Safari 6 I am not considering switching it since Apple added the search bar right into the address bar which makes the browsing expeirience more efficient.
For now I can only say what is apparent, and I too think Safari for Windows has been discontinued. However, the installer is still available in the Apple Support Download Page.
Hope this helps!

Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:

  • Safari 4 for Windows hangs as soon as I type anything in a web page

I've got the latest release of Safari 4 for Windows installed on my Windows XP laptop. Unfortunately it's unusable due to a problem where the browser hangs/locks up as soon as I start to enter any data on a web form, e.g. www.google.co.uk, I can type the first letter of my search term, but then the browser hangs and will not accept any further input and I have to kill it.
Anyone else encountering anything similar? Until I've got a resolution for this I basically can't use Safari on Windows.

I'm experiencing not entirely dissimilar... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2039420&tstart=0

  • Download Safari 6 for Windows

    Hello
Can you Download Safari 6 for Windows
    Thank you

Hello, I tried to leave feedback for enhancements to Safari on the link MACOSX24 posted above but I got a Http://500 error.
Oh well, here was what I was going to post, I asked  them to continue the development of  Safari for Windows/Linux/ZX81/Oric-1:
"Please develop your browser further.  If you rule the roost on any platform with your browser/GUI, then you win the Internet Game.
I have a MacBook Pro and almost exclusively use Safari.
Safari on Google Glass.  Now there is a thought.
I was joking about the ZX81.  I actually meant the ZX80, my first Home Computer.
Also, please update your drop down which you are asking me to fill in on the next form below (on the OS version) as I am running Windows 8.1, amongst other things, yours only goes up to Windows 7.
    Thank You!
    Adrian."

  • Why there is no safari update for windows newer than 5.1.7(2012) release?

why there is no safari update for windows newer than 5.1.7(2012) release?
I am really wondering why there is no safari update for 2013 and 2014!?

Why?  Because worms are flying and we all smell of elderberries.
Seriously... Nobody here knows why.  We don't work for Apple therefore we would have no clue as to the official reason why Apple stopped developing / supporting it.

  • Safari 3 for Windows - Flash Forms broken

I've read quite a few posts regarding Flash Forms not working
in Safari 3 for Windows, but I have yet to hear an explanation or
    fix.
So, are Flash Forms broken for everyone when using Safari 3
    for Windows?
    And, if so, why?
For example, this following data grid loads for me in Safari
    - but it does NOT load any data. Data does successfully load data
    when using IE, etc.
    http://www.asfusion.com/examples/item/filtering-records-on-a-cfform-grid
    Thanks,
    David

There seems to be a problem with how Coldfusion embeds the Flash form on a webpage:
It errors out with this error when embedding a Flash form:
    "Unmatched </embed> encountered"
This is really annoying as WebKit is used by many people now (iPhone, Safari and Google Chrome, etc).

  • Safari 4 for Window printing blank web pages

    Hi
I've recently switch from IE to Safari 4 for Windows (using Windows 7) but I've noticed that when I try to print a web page I just get a blank page.
I don't have this problem with IE or Safari. No problem with the printer either which is HP LaserJet 1320.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks
    George

I have the same problem. I get a blank page printing on any of 5 different network printers at my work. Internet Explorer prints fine. My computer is an HP running windows 7. Our IT staff only supports IE so I can't ask them for help. I really want to use Safari to help Apple push the rest of the world to adopt to adopt HTML 5. The only way to do that is to use it, but I need to be able to print. Does anyone know how to fix this?
By the way, every time you use Safari, you are giving Apple more power to make web developers update their websites to work with the iphone, the iPad, and HTML 5. The Internet would be a better place if everyone switched to Safari.

  • How to install self-signed ROOT CA certs in safari 4 for windows?

Hello, I do some web development and I use Safari for windows to test all my works for mac users, since v4 I haven't been able to test my apps because safari ask me for a certificate to use for connecting to the test environment (uses self signed cert chain) while other browsers (opera, firefox, IE) just alert me of an untrusted CA certificate. How do I install the CA certificate or whatever I need to do to test my apps on safari 4 windows? thanks for your support

For what it's worth, you can install a self signed cert only for pages that you go directly to. So if the self signed page is one that is included in page from another server (like images being served from a separate content server) you can install the cert but it still won't serve that content until.....you go directly to that self signed page. Also, this solution only works for the currently running browser and as soon as you shut down the browser the cert is apparently lost. Annoying as heck especially if you happen to be a shop setup that way and you are testing your site on Safari for Windows. arrrgggg! Dear Apple, please fix so we can test that our sites work with your browser.....help us help you!

  • Is Safari 6 for Windows dead?

I love Safari for Windows, will be Safari 6 aviable for Windows users?
    Thanks for your answers

Why no Safari for Windows beyond version 5.1.7?
Apple's Steve Jobs first announced Windows PC support in Safari 3.0 at Macworld Expo in 2007. The primary goal of that new version was to push the adoption of modern, standards-based browsing by making Safari's WebKit browser widely available as an alternate to Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox (originally Phoenix) browser built on the ashes of Netscape.
However, while adoption of Safari among PC users has been limited, Google's free Chrome browser, based on the same WebKit engine as Safari, has achieved wide distribution, virtually erasing the need for Apple to develop and support its own browser for Windows.
Additionally, Apple's subsequent success with iOS, paired with the nearly unanimous use of WebKit by other mobile platform vendors (including Nokia, RIM, Palm, Google and others) has effectively made WebKit the only significant mobile web browser engine.
By terminating support for the Windows platform, Apple can focus on the development of features unique to its own platforms, as represented by many of the unique features in Safari 6.0. Apple is still supporting continued, open development of WebKit on a variety of different platforms.
Downloads for other Windows software, including iTunes, QuickTime and Bonjour printer support, are still available and do not appear to have changed. Some Apple web pages, including the QuickTime page for Windows downloads, still link to "Safari for Mac + PC," but those links all now direct to information that only applies to Mac and iOS devices.

  • Safari 5 for windows with multiple extensions installed crashing

I installed Safari 5 on my Windows PC running XP PRO with SP3 ; I also had Firefox installed and was using multiple extensions and add ons there. After using Safari 5 for a day or so I installed a number of extensions. Two were also installed on Firefox; Feedly and LastPass; no idea if this has anything to do with anything.
Shortly after this I started having problems with both Firefox and Safari crashing. Eventually uninstalled Firefox until I got Safari stable but I haven't been able to do that . It's still crashing every 30 " or so, sometimes more often. The error message says "Safari has encountered an unexpected difficulty and needs to close." When I click on the "Details" link it says Error Signature App name Safari.exe
    ModVer 5.33.17.8
    Offset 00111fb61
Can anyone give me some advice? I hate to uninstall the extensions only to find out that's not the problem.
    Thanks

Apologies, Kathleen, but do you mind if I stash links to extension-related problems here? (Will stop If you rather I didn't.)
MareksGreg here was getting symptoms that sounded a bit like Hedi's (Flash not working):
10 minutes earlier I was thinking about this and I tried to uninstall 2 of 3 extensions I got.
I uninstalled "Sessions" and "Awesome Screenshots". And it worked.
I think that the update for extensions I did last week occurred this problem not the extensions themselves.
Now I installed both of extensions back and everything is alright, like ebfore.
It looks like an extension-related problem is likely to cause a user-account-specific problem too.

  • Safari 4 for Windows & Adobe PDF files?

    Hi all,
Running Safari 4, and love the browser with the exception that any time it tries to open a PDF file within the browser it crashes. Has been this way with acrobat 9.0 and also 9.1 Any suggestions/fixes, or at least workarounds to that it will launch the file in the application instead of crashing the browser?
    Thanks,
    Matt

My wife is running Safari 4.0.3 on Windows XP. I have installed Adobe Acrobat Professional and all of its Adobe updates. Adobe preferences are set to open PDFs in the browser, and connection is set to LAN. Safari is set as the default browser. When I try to open a link to a pdf document, Safari crashes with the following error:
    Acrobat Plug-In
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your web browser & try again.
Windows throws up a dialog saying that it had to close Safari, through its Data Execution Protection service. So, I went to the DEP settings, and told it not to protect memory in Safari. Didn't help.
This did not happen with Acrobat Reader 8.x. Problem started with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.x. Suggestions?

  • Text Rendering issue in Safari 4 for Windows

Note: I've failed to find a thread pertaining to this particular issue. If someone is aware of one, please excuse me and point this discussion in that direction.
I am experiencing a problem with a Windows instal of Safari 4 that seems not to manifest itself on any of my mac machines. On select sites text is rendered as a jumbled mess of overlapping characters. To simplify matters I have linked to a screenshot of the problem:

    HI,
    Try Safari maintenance.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
