Safari 6 in Mountain Lion lost window drop shadow

After I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I have a weird problem with Safari 6: the window does not have the drop shadow, and when the window is activated only the title of the Web page gets darker color in the top bar of the frame. It's a very annoying problem, since there is no visible frame if the Safari window is overlaid on top of another window with white background. This happens only on one user account and on one computer out of the four  that I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion. I tried to figure out which preference setting controls that, but neither removing all preferences for Safari and starting from scratch, nor copying the Safari preferences from the library of another user account that is fine did help.
Perhaps somebody can tell me how is the coloring of Safari windows handled. Windows of all other  applications are fine -- it's just the Safari's window that gets the problem.

I bit the bullet and created a new account. I wanted to preserve account name, so I deleted the old one, but chose the option to leave the home folder intact (it was renamed to "userid (Deleted)"). Then I moved what I needed to the home folder of the new account. iCloud helped quite a bit, as I did not want to move any of the ~/Library content. VirtualBox VMs moved quite nicely with the use of File->Add. Dropbox took some time to sync, but Google Drive refused to reconnect to the folder; thank goodness I have gigabytes on the former, and just a few files on the latter. Time Machine is busy, of course, but... Mountain Lion looks like Mountain Lion now
It's been much faster than trying to fish around for the solution to the problem. Still, I am actually interested in discovering how exactly the windows are decorated on Mountain Lion. The developers of Mac themes must know, but I do not know any of them

  • How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion?

How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion? It's not in the App Store, it is nowhere on the Apple website . . . OK, so I guess it is supposed to be part of Mountain Lion, but I am running Mountain Lion and whatever version of Safari I ended up with would not even run at all . . .  so I trashed it (or at least what part of it I was allowed to trash) and though reinstalling it would be a good idea . . . but I can't find one to reinstall. The latest version I can find is for Leopard, and of course that won't run.
Not to mention that since getting Mt Lion, iPhoto won't run . . . it produces an error message saying I need to check with the developer to make sure it runs with this version of OS X! So I wonder who the developer of iPhoto is, who produces software that is incompatible with Mt Lion???
And even in submitting this there is no option to tag it for any OS later than 10.7.4!!

Since Safari is crashing, post a crash report...   reinstalling the OS X rarely helps a browser crash issue.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

  • Reinstalling Safari in Mountain Lion

I can't find how to reinstall Safari for Mountain Lion. The App Store is confusing as all get-out and I can't find any download link on the Safari page, just a bunch of blurbs telling me how great it is. Apparently the version I have has developed dementia and I would like to reinstall it. Can someone give me a clue about how to do this? Thanks. :-)

It's best to describe the problem, rather than your conclusion as to how it should be solved. Reinstalling is almost certainly not the solution.

  • Degrade to an older Safari version (Mountain Lion OS to Lion OS)

    Hi everyone,
I've just installed by mistake the latest version of Safari for Mountain Lion on my Mac Lion OS X and my Mac won't let me degrade...silly me . Is there any way around this? I have tried to use Time Machine to no avail as it's never been set up before.

  • Unusable safari after Mountain Lion 10.8.2 upgrade

    Hi,
After the last Mountain Lion update (10.8.2) using Safari is not like before to me. Every single time i wake up my Macbook Pro and run safari, pages I try to open just cant open normally, loading tooks for 2-5 min then page opens, after 5 min it works normally then again after few minutes same problem happens, without closing safari. But every time I turn on my macbook or open safari problem is there. My internet is working normally since I can use it on my sisters laptop, or when I restart my macbook to Window 7 Bootcamp. Only when I use in Mac OS X, internet/safari is not working well. Tried other browsers (Chrome/Mozilla Firefox) and they seem to work better then safari, open pages faster than safari, but still not normally like before. Again, using internet in bootcamp works perfectly. Any solutions?

Is there a way I can contact someone from Apple because I really cant use internet normally -.-...I am now downloading Mountain Lion again and ill try to reinstall it, if that doesnt works I just dont know what to do...i have tried everything...some link I can open, some links a cant open, after few minutes its normal and again after few minutes it doesnt work, its just annoying:/...i am really disappointed....just to mention, few weeks ago I had a problem with youtube, many videos I have tried to watch were working for me just for 30-40 sec and they just stop, also tried everything, even clean install of OS X, and havent fix the problem until installed adblock extension, there was problem with the ads on videos. But why is that just on mac, why not on bootcamp windows too? everything has worked great until upgrade to mountain lion-.-

  • Old Lion Finder bug reappears in Mountain Lion -- lost options

There were a number of problems with the Finder View options under Lion which were fixed bit-by-by, upgrade-by-upgrade.
In general, folder placement was scrambled and view options were lost/reset after certain operations.
Now, with Mountain Lion, some of these problems have resurfaced:
-- I use Show View Options to increase the size of icons and to set the background of a folder to a color
-- I use Mail to attach a file from this folder via the Attach window
When I return to the folder after sending my Mail message, icon size and background color have been reset to default.
In Lion, the Always Show in Icon View option was also reset.
So far this hasn't happened in Mountain Lion.
    Anyone else haveing this problem?

I tried and don't see any issues. When you say the "Attach" window, what does that mean? Do you mean the "Share" contextual submenu or button (or does it translate to "attach" from another localization)?
If it is something other than Share submenu, then is that a third-party program that provides that function?
You might consider deleting the .DS_Store file from that folder. Various utilities can remove them, like OnyX, or you can use the Terminal.

  • I want Safari in Mountain Lion to stay in fullscreen mode after closing.

    Hello!
I have a feature on my Mac Mini and Macbook Pro (OS X Lion), which makes Safari stay in fullscreen after I have closed it down (Cmd + Q) and then start the program again. By doing so I do not need to click on the full screen icon(upper right corner) every time I start Safari again.
But on my Macbook Pro Retina (Mountain Lion), this function is gone. Before I made a temporary solution, which was that I locked the file (think it's a cache file) that allows Safari to go back to "No fullscreen" mode, and it worked. But the bad part about it is that I can not change the settings after that.
Does anyone know any solution to this? Or is there something wrong with my Safari?
    /Niklas

Thank you! That solved my problem, strange that Apple support couldn't help me in this
But why are for example Spotify working with always start with fullscreen even if the "close windows..." is checked?

  • What happened to address bar in safari under Mountain lion

I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday.  Now, in safari, I no longer have an address bar.  In customize toolbar, I see there is only the option to add/have 'search google or enter an address'.  So have they combined this field?  If so, in the old address bar field, there was a star to click on to add the page to our bookmarks, which opened the list and let us choose a folder.  I no longer have that option.
    Any help?
    michelle

It is now a unified address and search bar. there is a + button in the Customize Toolbar in the View menu item. This will allow you to choose what folder to add your page.

I have a dual boot lab that I set up for a school.  The partitions consist of Mountain Lion OSX and Windows 7 Ent.  I use bootpicker software for choosing the operating system at startup.  When I select the windows partition, it take just under 2 minutes from selection to the windows login screen.  It seems to take incredibly long for the mac to "shut down and hand over the operating system to windows.
Do you have any suggestions on how to get this timing faster?
    Thanks for any ideas/input

The only suggestion I can make is to look ar ReFind (previuosly ReFit). Startup mamangement is one of its features.
    But
It is very powerful so test it for yourself before deploying it. Some of the functions are best kept out of the hands of the curious, or 'playful'
And you never answered this question.
Tell me what the needs are, do the users always need to choose Windows or is this a variable?

  • How to I run Snow Leopard,  Mountain Lion and Windows 8 on my new iMac

I just bought a new iMac. My goal is to set up 3 different partions to run 3 different operating systems (Mountain Lion, Snow Leopard, and Windows 8).  The reason for this post is because when I attempted to do this same thing on my old iMac ( except I was running Lion instead of Mountain Lion) I was able to create a partion that would run Snow Leopard (so I could run Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 on a more stable platform), however I totally "hosed" my old Bootcamp partition running Windows XP. The iMac won't even bootup in Bootcamp anymore. It is just a black screen and it says something about it not being a bootable drive and to insert a bootable disc.
So I need to know the best way to do this, and I want to avoid having the same problems with my new iMac that I had on my old one, especially since I have a freelance job starting next week and my client is sending me licences for software that I will need to run on Windows 8.
    Thank you in advance

Use the Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows 8 and a product such as VirtualBox, VMware Fusion, or Parallels Desktop to run Snow Leopard Server in emulation. That iMac model isn't capable of being booted into Snow Leopard.

  • What happened to photos file that used to show in Mountain Lion finder window?

Mountain Lion and earlier OS X systems used to have a Pictures (maybe it was Photos?) "folder" in the side menu of Finder windows. I recently upgraded to Mavericks and don't remember whether I saw it there or not (I didn't use it a lot, but it was very full of pictures I stored there). Then, I got a new computer and migrated to it from my Time Machine backups on an external drive (the old computer was totally damaged). This computer has Yosemite. My problem... There's no Pictures (Photos) "folder" in the Finder windows, and I can't find them anywhere. Help!!!!!!!!

What is in the side panel is just a shortcut.
The Pictures Folder is in your User Account. IN the Finder use the Go menu and paste this into the window
    ~/Pictures
and it will bring you there.

  • Poor Safari Performance - Mountain Lion OS X

    Since downloading and doing a clean install of Mountain Lion OS X, I have had poor performance with internet browsing. With some of my own basic troubleshooting steps, I have determined its Safari is likely to be the culprit. Below are the scenarios;
    1. Ethernet; direct connect to 50 Mbps Modem/Router (Cisco DPC3825)
    2. WiFi; connected to signal broadcasted by Airport Extreme (3rd Gen) bridged to Cisco Modem/Router
    3. WiFi; connected to signal broadcasted by Cisco Modem/Router
*each scenario was tested on both my ISP's DNS, OpenDNS and Google's DNS.
Safari starts and loads home page (www.apple.com) just fine. Searching or navigating to other sites will require several seconds to minutes of delay, sometimes failing to load. Regardless of this slow performance loading pages; speeds from sites like speedtest.net show my ISP is providing adequate bandwidth, often over 50 Mbps.
I have several other devices on my network that work absolutely fine. ThinkPad T410, two Apple iPhone 5's, two Apple TVs 3rd Gen, xBox 360, Dish Hopper and Joey. All provide quick and speedy navigation. For example, movies load up quick via Netflix apps on both Apple TV and xBox. Safari on iPhone will load much quicker than Safari. Often I'll grab my phone getting tired of waiting for Safari to load and am able to pull it up on my phone quickly.
My current system is early 2009 iMac, 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo, 8 GB DDR3 memory. Again... a clean install of Mountain Lion.
Also, I loaded the latest FireFox and browsing is perfect. Fast and very responsive. However, using FireFox greatly degrades the Apple iCloud experience and I would greatly prefer to use Safari.
Any ideas on what I can try next to get my iMac back in tip top shape?

    I was able to make some configuration changes on my Cisco DPC3825 router, my speed is much better. I've tested it for a couple weeks now and have not had any lag in browsing. Here is what I changed;
    1. Log into the Cisco Router's control panel.
    2. Security > Firewall > Disable SPI Firewall Protection (and any filters that were selected by default or your ISP)
    3. Access Restrictions > Basic Rules > removed a site in the blocked domain list
    4. I then used Open DNS DNS servers and managed security using Open DNS.
Please take this information lightly, I am not a network expert. But these steps allowed me to get over the problems I listed above. I'm getting very fast speeds and just about 0 lag when browsing internet.
    Hope this helps someone.
