Safari 6 (Lion) bookmark icons won't stick

I am still using Lion but I upgraded to Safari 6. If a web page has a pic next to it's URL, that pic goes with the bookmark. After upgrading, all my bookmarks have the blue ball before the each bookmark. If I click on a bookmark with a pic, it shows. However, after closing Safari and reopening, those pics are not sticking, hence back to the default blue ball showing.
What gives? A new unknown Apple setting? Glitch?
Any help with be appreciated.
Wow, I just figured it out thinking outloud to myself while studying the icons showing. Everytime history gets erased, so do the bookmark icons. Really Apple?
Any way to get them to stick besides keeping history forever?

Rats!  I just noticed the same thing.
Hey, Apple:  This is a bug.  Erasure of the history should not erase icons associated with a site.

  • After updating to Firefox 5 on a Windows 7 PC the bookmarks icon won't stay on the toolbar and I can't click it to get a bookmarks column on the left side of the screen, how do I fix it?

There was no bookmarks icon on the toolbar. I used View > Toolbars> customise to put various icons on the toolbar all of which were visible using "customise". On going back to Firefox all the other icons remained visible but the Bookmarks Icon disappeared leaving no means of getting a bookmarks column on the left of the screen when using Firefox.

Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar<br />
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" and check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"

  • Bookmark Icon won't go away on homescreen

I had an iPod Touch I was using for the past couple of years and then recently upgraded to an iPhone 3GS. I had a Digg bookmark icon that I deleted long ago. On my iPhone during every sync it always comes back. On the iPhone I always delete it but that doesn't seem to work or prevent it's reappearance with the next sync. Has anyone here experienced this before? I want my icons for apps only.

    HI,

  • Menu tray icon won't stick

    Hello,
I keep dragging the app icon from Applications onto my menu bar so that I can just click on it, but it will stick there for some reasons. Anyone know why not?
    Thanks,
    David

    Ok, next questions :
    1. You ARE dragging it to the left hand side of the Dock (the divide line) not the right?
    2. Try one of your other user accounts (or create one if necessary) to see how it behaves there. The iTunes icon is in the Dock by default in a new account - so try removing it from the Dock, then adding it again from Applications. If it sticks, log out, then log back in, see if it is still there. If it is, it is something to do with your user account, so report back what happens. Thanks.

    Hello
I got an iPhone 3GS and in safari the bookmark icon when pressed use to reveal a listing of different search engines (google, yahoo, bing etc) with a users guide at the bottom of the listings but now they've gone .
    How has this happen?
    How to I restore them?

  • We have a new iPad Mini.  I cannot save a new Bookmark.  In Safari, I go to "Share" and select "Add a Bookmark" yet when I click on the Bookmarks icon, my saved Bookmark is not there.  Am I doing something wrong?

We have a new iPad Mini, and I'm having inconsistent results using Bookmarks in the Safari icon.
For a long time, on the iPad, I could only see five items under the Bookmark icons and the Bookmarks Bar was empty.
Occasionally, in Safari, the iPad would pick up and display all of the Bookmarks from the Safari browser on my iMac.
Other times, there are only a bare few Bookmarks available on the iPad, the Bookmarks Bar goes away and I cannot save a new Bookmark.  It looks like I can save one, but I cannot find it after allegedly saving.
Then, all of the Bookmarks will come back and I can save a new Bookmark again. We can't figure out why all of the Bookmarks will show and then they won't.
I want to think this involves iCloud some way, but for right now, I'm stumped.  Perhaps we're just too inexperienced and haven't come around the learning curve yet.
    Thanks for any help.
    Steve

No, I see the three areas at the bottom of the Bookmark area that you refer to, but that also highlights an issue.  When I want to save a story to my Reading List and click on Share then "Add to Reading List" then go back to look at what is stored in the Reading List, my recently-saved item is not there.
I looked thru the History tab and the Reading List tab and have been in the Bookmark tab.  But even when I Save a Bookmark, that newly-saved Bookmark does not show up in the Bookmark area.
But then again, the next day (and actually just in the last half-hour) all of the functionality came back.  When I look at the Bookmarks, suddenly, again, all of the Bookmarks that are on my Safari browser on my iMac are now there, and I can now Save a Bookmark.
It keeps coming in and out and that is what is driving me a little nuts.
    Thanks.

  • How to DELETE the bookmark icons from Safari New Tab Pages, How to DELETE the bookmark icons from Safari New Tab Pages

I struggle to believe that I am the only person experiencing this problem.
I just hope somebody has the decency to spend a couple of minutes replying with a resolution.
Every time I click the + sign on my iPad, Safari to open a new tab page..
I am greeted by loads of icons / boxes that are links to my bookmarks.
I want to delete those icons / boxes from the page
If I want to visit one of my bookmarks I use the bookmark icon at the top right of the page.
If I long press on the icons they do not wobble / delete
How can I delete them ?
I dislike them so much I am beginning to think that I will have to stop using safari,
and use a different search engine.....but I shouldn't have to.

If you don't want to see these bookmarks when you open a new tab and you don't want to delete them you'll need to move them. Now as you probably know there isn't really a move function for Bookmarks in iPad, so what I'd recommend is Tap Bookmarks>Favourites tap one of the bookmarks in this folder and when it loads up save it to another location on your iPad - repeat for all bookmarks in this folder, once done tap Bookmarks>Favourites select EDIT and delete all bookmarks in the favourites folder.
You need to bear in mind that FAVOURITES is simply a folder storage area for Bookmarks so any bookmarks you delete from this folder won't be available under Bookmarks unless you follow the process outlined above.

  • Is there a way to customize safari bookmarks' icons

I guess the question says it all.
I would like to customize the generic bookmarks' icons in the safari Favorites page.
    Any way to do that?

What do you mean by "customize"?
If you want to change the icon for a specifc bookmarked site in the Favorites list, then lizdance40 is correct.  There is no way to change a site to use a custom icon.
If you want to change which bookmarked sites appear in the list, then the answer is yes, you can change the list of sites that appears in the list as well the order that they appear.  To change which sites appear in the Favorites list, add bookmarks to or remove bookmarks from the Favorites folder by navigating to that folder in the Boomarks pop-over (tap the Bookmarks icon to the right of the address field, then tap the Bookmarks icon, then navigate to the Favorites folder, then tap the "Edit" button).  You can also open a new tab, then press-and-hold on one icon to move it to a new location.  Just drop it when it's in place.

  • Safari crash everytime when i click the bookmark icon on iPad2 iOS5.1

Is there anybody can help?  Thanks a lot.

I have tried closing safari app and reset the ipad, even more than one time, but these doesn't work..
The problem may be caused by a new bookmark which I added this morning, it's a bookmark with some javascript code which can let you check the source of the webpage. (the content is from: http://www.ravelrumba.com/wp/wp-content/code/view-source.txt) At the very beginning, it works fine and i can use it to check sources of some pages( by click the bookmark icon and click the specified bookmark i created ). but after a while, it cannot work and the bookmark icon became a crash trigger

  • Can I move the bookmarks icon back over to the right side of the Safari bar in iOS 8?

The bookmarks icon now appears on the left side of the Safari bar in iOS8. Can I move it back to its former place on the right side?

How very annoying is this so called update, if you are right handed you generally hold the iPad in your left hand and use your right hand to type and use the tabs etc, because Apple have moved the favourite tab to the left it means you have to put your hand straight over the screen which blocks everything.
Ironically Apple have done some work on the favourites tab by rounding the icons book edges, pity they never thought more about how their customers have to use the tab, as opposed dressing up the favourite icon!

  • After IOS 8 update, bookmark bar won't go away

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my iPad 2, in landscape mode in Safari, the bookmarks bar, now combined with links and "Reading List", won't go away. I believe it is supposed to go away when you select one of the functions, such as bookmark, so that the tab turns blue, then hit it again. It doesn't. I can turn it to portrait mode to make it go away, but I'd like to use landscape mode without losing a third of the screen to bookmarks.

Apple knows what's good for you - how dare you criticizing their benevolent parental guidance?
Jokes aside, I'm also a little bit puzzled that there's no option to choose between the "toggle on-off" setting in landscape mode and the fade out one as in portrait In Safari's settings. But there's actually some kind of workaround I'm now using most of the time in landscape mode:
When tapping the URL address bar your bookmarks will also show above the virtual keyboard as they do when Safari doesn't have any websites opened. As soon as one taps into that bookmark window to scroll or directly click a bookmark the keyboard disappears again. It may not be a perfect method, especially when bookmarks aren't organized in folders, because the top level bookmarks are displayed as rather largish icons. But those contained in a folder will actually display as a drop-down list (can be scrolled when having a large number of entries) similar to the normal bookmarks list. Once a bookmark has been clicked everything fades out and you're taken to the selected site. As my bookmarks are almost exclusively in folders such as "News", "Sports", "Tech" etc. I've come to appreciate this kind of bookmark navigation much more than through the standard bookmarks menu with its annoying behavior in landscape mode.

  • Safari 4.1.2 won't open

MacPro, OS 10.4.11, Safari 4.1.2 stopped opening. The Safari window comes up, but the rainbow ball spins eternally and the icon in the dock (when clicked) says "application not responding." I tried dumping the Safari plist, but still won't open. Tried moving Safari receipts and the application itself to the trash and then reinstalling (from download) Safari 4, but the system won't let me select a destination hard drive. So I'm stuck without Safari (which I like). I tried logging in as a different user, and Safari worked just fine. How do I get it to work in my own user?

    Hi Stanley
It might be Cache, cookies, some other Safari plist - or account specific add-on software...
I'd start by moving the folder Home/Library/Safari/ to the desktop (don't trash it) with Safari quit - if things work afterwards, quit Safari again & rescue the bookmarks.plist file from inside & put it back in Home/Library/Safari/ (be careful, use Option-Drag so you work with a copy)
Cookies are in Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist - move/trash with safari quit.
Caches - on Tiger I think it was in Home/Library/Caches/Safari/ - again, trash with Safari quit.
