Safari 6 woes

Since upgrading to Safari 6 then running the Mountain Lion upgrade I have been enjoying(!) the following opportunities for Apple to do some debugging:-
1) Occasionally (typically after the browser has got confused), either partial or no part of the web page will display - the header (page title) changes, some content may be displayed, often none but if you move your mouse over the blankness whatever isn't displayed shows links on the status bar at the bottom of the page.
2) Safari just gives up refreshing pages or changing the content. This seems to happen where the combi search box/URL is being used for searches. As above, the page title changes but nothing on the window does.
3) Deleting cookies seems to guarantee a Safari crash.
4) Enabling private browsing seems to increase the instability and switching back from it makes things worse.
I have removed and reset the caches, restarted the browser and machine and followed the majority of recommendations posted so far but it really doesn't seem to take a lot to get Safari to fail.
On the plus side, everything the browser does do, it does a lot quicker (both good and bad) but for such a fundamental and critical piece of software in the Apple ecosystem, the testing and quality control appears a little lacking.
To Apple technical support, can you provide the following please:-
1) Provide a link which everyone can use to allow us to download and reinstall Safari 6 as you have now removed software update and have no links to the latest versions.
2) The ability to regress back to Safari 5.1.x for those of us who rely on the tool to work for our jobs.
3) Someone to test the product against your own website as both the main Apple site for Safari and this discussion forum have both refused to display completely using your software on your hardware.
It is supposed to 'just work'. Please make or let it do so again soon.

The option for the Webkit Inspector is under Develop/Use WebKit Web Inspector, but it doesn't work (all the text draws over itself and clicking on the buttons just makes them darker and darker, but doesn't do anything else)   I am only on Lion, so maybe it works in Mountain Lion?
Eventually found the documentation at this link:
http://developer.apple.com/library/safari/#documentation/appleapplications/Conce ptual/Safari_Developer_Guide/DebuggingYourWebsite/DebuggingYourWebsite.html
The documentation for debugging says "Select the script file in the resource panel and click in the line numbers to set a break point".   This seems to work fine, but if I click on the root page in the resource panel there are no line numbers to click and nothing in the popups.   Hmmmm.
The new console enhancements are cool though.  Just finish the job and I'll be using it again.

  • Safari Woes

    Safari isn't working properly on my 2013 MacBook Air with OS X Yosemite (10.10.1) and I can't figure out why.  Each time I log into my MacBook and open Safari, Safari stalls indefinitely after approximately 20 seconds.  If I quit Safari, then reopen it, Safari works properly while the MacBook is in use.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your time.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari 6 web inspector woes

    Is there any way to get the old web inspector back for the newest version of safari?

  • Safari-Flash-Adobe Woes

    Is this a mystery? A big problem? A little probem?
    My copy of Safari - 6.0.2 - has suddenly started to display a 'plug in blocked' message wherever there is a Flash Vid to be played.
    When I download the 'latest Flash' from Adboe the file will not open ( a *.html' file)
    So in essence I cannot play Flash now, cannot download Flash now and have nary a clue what is going on.
    I have tried dl'ing the Adobe Flash link that pops up when I click on the 'blocked plugin' bit and directy from the Adobe webiste, The files play fine on Firefox on the Pro Tower and on both Safari and FF on an MBA and an iPad (via third party Flash software).
    Any clues on how to solve this one would be very much appreciated
    Thank you
    Geoff

    Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.
    Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.
    The Adobe Flash patch can be found on the company's website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent 11.5.502.149 version.

  • [SAFARI 4.0.5] Bookmark woes: Most Visited, Recent, and any RSS feed

    Somehow my bookmark for Most Visited and Recent changed (from what, I don't know) and they no longer work. Here is what I have now in those slots:
    place:sort=8&maxResults=10
    place:folder=BOOKMARKSMENU&folder=UNFILEDBOOKMARKS&folder=TOOLBAR&sort=12&excludeQueries=1&excludeItemIfParentHasAnnotati on=livemark%2FfeedURI&maxResults=10&queryType=1
    Both of those "urls" throw an error from Safari...Safari can’t open “place:...."
    So what does everyone else have? This is on two machines, and I suspect using Xmarks for Safari caused that, and perhaps also this problem with the place stuff.
    Then on another note, for all the bookmarks that have RSS defined, like Latest Headlines and News, if clicked, FireFox opens and if say News has 400 items, then FireFox tries open 400 tabs. Firefox is set as the default browser, but that's just nuts!
    Well, thx for your help,
    coocoo

    forgettabout it. updated to safari 5 and these catagories just went away anyway. oh well...

  • More Safari / 10.4.11 woes - but I don't have InputManager folders

    Hello all, I'm having the usual troubles with Safari 3 since installing the 10.4.11 update.
    I did have an extension for Safari (lesson learned there...) but can't seem to find anything in ApplicationSupport and I don't have InputManager folders.
    I've posted the error report below in the hope that somebody far smarter than me will understand it...

    Hi atravers,
    I did have an extension for Safari (lesson learned there...)
    Which one was that? Was it Safari Extender/Enhancer? One of those modifies the Safari package itself which in turns causes the 10.4.11 updater some issues. The end result is that you have a half-updated Safari and it crashes.
    If you did have one those installed, download the combo update from the Downloads site (link at the top of this page) and use [Pacifist|www.charlessoft.com] to extract the Safari package from the update and replace your current one.
    Good luck!

  • Safari 5.1.4 YouTube woes.

    I have seen a couple of threads and posts on this topic but none have had the information I am looking for so hoping a new threa will get me and a few others I have seen some answers.
    Completed the Safari 5.1.4 update late last night and since then when trying to use youtube.  Videos will play sometimes.  Other times they will play but I have no control over volume, search bar, play buttons and the like.  Also the biggest issue I am having isthe like, share, add and other buttons dont work.
    Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Have you emptied Safari caches (Safari > Empty caches)?
    Have you reset Safari in part (Safari > Reset Safari), with all items checked except for usernames, passwords, and auto fill?
    Have you reset Safari in full?
    Have you disabled extensions?
    Have you disabled plug-ins?
    Have you tested in a new user?
    Have you pulled ~/library/preferences/com.apple.safari.plist while Safari is quit?
    Have you pulled ~/library/safari/ while Safari is quit?

  • Newest Safari and liveconnect woes

    Dear all,
    Part of my site relies on liveconnect, which is ok except for Apple users. Despite all Apple's bragging about its prowess in all matters Java, there seems to be no way at all to reach javascript properties and functions from an applet.
    Nor is it possible to make tapping into an applet from javascript work with any browser, with the possible exception of their own Safari. If you have the Java 1.4.2 plugin, that is, or so Apple claims.
    So I got the plugin, but it seems to no avail. For instead of simply not recognizing an applet as an object, Safari now returns the error that the Object applet does not allow calls. That, however, is simply untrue, as any wintel machine testifies.
    The (uniquely named) applet is retrieved as:
    document.getElementsByName("name_of_the_applet")[0]
    In the applet tag the MAYSCRIPT attribute is present. Including it as MAYSCRIPT="true" or even adding it as a parameter does not make any difference.
    Can liveconnect function on OSX.machines at all (version 10.3.4), or can't Apple cut it at all?
    Thanks for all input,
    Rik
    (p.s. this sort of multidisciplinary question was also posted in the plug-in forum)

    All the essential code was in my original post, it's not that complex. The error reported is exactly as I said:
    "Object does not allow calls."
    To see what happens, check out:
    peptalks.nl/testjava/Applet.html
    There, I put a minimal applet plus some javascript tapping into it: Four functions which should return different parts of the applet. The first three return a variable (string), a string constant returned by a method, and a string constant plus a string parameter from a method, respectively, the fourth switches the background color of the applet between red and yellow. The source code of the applet is at the bottom of this post, the javascript can be seen in the source of liveconnect.html itself.
    This all works nicely on Wintel machines, but nothing works on apple of course, in any browser.
    Another thing: a couple of days ago there was a liveconnect-demo somewhere inside the Apple site itself, which did not seem to work either. Since then, I've tried and tried to find it again, but it seems to have vanished into thin air. All that's left is Apple's repeated and confident but unsubstantiated claim that the newest Safari supports liveconnect.
    Finally, the applet source:
    import java.awt.Color;
    public class Applet extends java.applet.Applet {
    public String testvar = "testvar";
    public String teststr() {
    return "teststr";
    public String teststrparam(String s) {
    return "teststrparam (" + s + ")";
    public void testvoid() {
    if (getBackground() == Color.yellow) setBackground(Color.red);
    else setBackground(Color.yellow);
    repaint();
    public void init() {
    setBackground(Color.red);
    } // end of class

  • Continual Mac woes (no question, just a rant)

    It's Tuesday, and I am having terrible problems with my Mac. But then, why should Tuesday be different from any other day of the week.
    Here is a typical day for me. The computer appears to be working OK. I need to watch a DVD for my work. I turn on DVD player, and put one in. The machine can't read the disc. It clicks and whirls, but the icon does not show up on the desktop. Meanwhile, so distressed is the machine that it freaks out. What was up until now was a fluidly operating machine suddenly reverts back to its old ways (i.e., its ways of two days ago). The hold ups and spinning pinwheels begin to eat of hours of my work day. (Remember the old days when computers made life easier?) The machine becomes sticky, gummy. Oh, I can move the curser and it seems to work for a second but then gets stuck in the dock, which explodes in icons and then freezes for five minutes. Yes. Five minutes.
    Would love to use Force Quit, but the cursor is spinning, and nothing is responding. Funny about that old Mac. You can't force quit Force Quit. I guess I need to leave it open all the time.
    Of course, FQ usually works on Safari. I have never just "quit" Safari. It always requires Force Quit, otherwise I can't turn off my computer. It stalls shut down.
    Now I have a DVD trapped in there and can't get it out. [But I just got an answer from another posting.]
    In the old macs, there used to be a pin hole you could stick a needle into ... can't find one on my flatpanel iMac.
    I bought my Apple flat panel iMac in August of 2002. Yes, I know that that is a long time to have a computer, but I am not rich nor attached to a corporation that can splurge on computers. The first weekend I had the machine, I had three kernal panics.
    Among the other problems I have documented are the following: the dock hiding itself unbidden and other features checking and unchecking themselves (Aug 2002); bus errors connected with OS 9 (Sept); some problems that inspired the tech person (Eric)) to talk me through deleting my user i.d., resulting in the loss of two months worth of e-mail (Thursday, 12 September); Preview problems (September); a bizarre box with an unmovable and undeletable red stop sign in it that no tech person or other Mac user I know had ever hear of (Monday 30 September); printing problems; computer won't shut down, numerous disconnection errors, which turned out to be caused by an OS X update (beginning December, 2002, or later); Kernel panics (Feb); computer won't shut down (March); Faxstexx problems, program won't allow me to set it up, finally just deleted the software (April); keys like "V" freeze and repeat endlessly (May 21); DVD Player freezes (May); Safari and Mail begin quitting unexpectedly (May); cursor begins to blink and fade out, plus odd sounds come out of the speakers, a constant error beeping (Sept 9); DVD Player problems (Oct 4).
    I called AppleCare while I had it about once a week (the total between August 2002 and the time it ran out was about 155 calls). Naturally, some of these calls are motivated by user error. On the other hand, many of the issues I have called about were unprecedented as far as the Tech person was concerned, such as the blinking mouse, the red stop sign, and the DVD Player woes.
    Things improved with Panther, but in Tiger many of the same old issues have returned.
    I have been having so many problems with my Mac that I once wrote a letter to the company asking when do I qualify for a new replacement machine. I never received an answer, but I felt better for about a day. Then I turned on my Mac again.

    The spinning ball of death as we used to call it is often caused by a lack of RAM, it is hard to be sure as I am not working on your machine, but sometimes things can be improved with additional RAM, it makes it seem like a whole new computer.
    A lot of your problems sound like stuff that can be fixed easily enough, and although frustrating things happen here and there with updates. It sounds like you are in fairly good spirits with it all, I would suggest just researching a bit more into maintenance you can do to help maintain the computer and educate yourself a bit more (sounds like you already have learned quite a bit along the way) and you will find a lot of these issues take you a few seconds to rid yourself of. I would start by making sure you are repairing permissions regularly and running the most up to date software. If a lot of problems persist, try creating a second user that is a "test" user to see if the problem is replicated on that user (don't delete your other one, but if you do find the problem not on the other user, you might have a corrupt user, however you don't have to lose all your emails there are plenty of ways to back it up and import it in, or even just bring the entire Mail folder from your library over to the new user). Another thing you can do if you find a lot of system problems is archive and install the OS, it takes a bit of time, but doing it overnight shouldn't be an issue, and you won't lose any of your stuff.

  • Safari, MobileMe and Sound

    Well here goes people...
    First of all, lets talk to the good of the new child on the block - when its working, its nice to have.  No put downs here.  I like it alot!
    Common Fixes that I have found -
    1. Netflix.com can be fixed of its DRM woes by uninstalling Silverlight (MS swill that has to be used) and reinstall it - works like a charm
    2. Get Java Update - good to fix a number of issues, Including Adobe CS4 issues
    3. XQuartz has an update to 2.6.3
    4. DropDMG has an update - get it
    5. TinkerTools System Release 2 has an update that is necessary to operate
    6. For those that use SpamSieve - you need to reinstall the plugin in Mail and that will return
    7. LogMeIn has an update in order to make Ignition work properly.  Get it if you are using the pair for remote service.
    I think that covers the upgrades of external programs that will cause issues if they are not tended to in the immediate
    Now for the reason I am burning the midnite oil to pound the keys and see if there are any others out here that are experiencing issues with a similar signature. First a primer on what I have
         MBP 2010 Core i7 2.66GHz, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 27" LED Cinema Display, 2GB TimeCapsule...
    1. Upon reset - Sound is lost
         If restarted with out the Display plugged in - Sound returns
         If restarted again - Display plugged in - Sound goes away
         If restarted again - sans Display - Sound returns
    2. Safari and MobileMe
         During this set of restarts described above - Safari stops responding all together and MobileMe will no longer connects to server.
         I have tried for both of these issues
         a) Reset of Permissions (per suggestion here)
         b) Multiple Restarts (thus the long list of what happens; per suggestion here)
         c) Clearing Caches (Both startup and system; per suggestion here)
         d) Re-optimizing of system - something I tried.
         e) Restarting Multiple times (per suggestion here)
         f) PRAMing system
    The only remedey for this so far is to break down and just allow Lion to reinstall (Done this twice now).  Sounds medeval, yes - but effective.  I, at least, have returned to a working system, until of course the next restart of the system.  After all that is what I am using to type this on.
    So with out further explaination - What can anyone make of this?  Little Help here!?!? Maybe please...
    Christopher Reynolds, ASQ CRE, PMP, BS IS
    PS - As I learn more - I will post findings.

    And now for the final act...
    THE SOLUTION...
    Yes folks, after working with the crack team from Apple Care (James and Company) a solution to this issue was discovered.
    For all the about issues, it comes to this.
    Reboot System
    Hold Command+R (Recovery Mode)
    In Recover Mode, select Disk Utility (This insures that Macintosh HD is not mounted)
    Run
    Disk Repair (x2)
    Disk Permission Repair (x2)
    Restart
    If still having issues
    Command+R
    Install in Place (Reinstall - This takes and replaces any files that may have been overwritten and rewrites them)
    After installation, check if system is okay, If not
    SMC (Shift+Option+Command+Power)
    HW Reset (Command+Option+Power)
    PRAM (Option+Command+P+R)
    If still not functioning... Here is the FINAL Solution
    Since this formula is to take out the grossest of errors on the OS side, Take a moment to create an alternate user with Admin permissions
    Log in to this account
    If everything is now functioning, the corruption is a hangover from SL and you will need to move all of your data (only the data) to the new account.
    Beware of MobileMe.
    Before starting the transistion to this account, turn MobileMe off - No Syncing, No iDisk, No Nothing!  This will prevent MobileMe from rewriting the corrupt information into your new account.
    Collect all of your data, serial numbers for 3rd party Apps, eMail and other items.  This will take some time, but it is worth the ride.
    Once this is all complete, your system will be rock solid stable.

  • Safari and comcast

    I recently moved and had my Comcast service transferred to my new house. Upon reinstallation of my service, I was unable to access the internet on my Macbook using Safari. I then called Comcast and the modem was reset by the tech and that in theory should have been the end of my woes.
    Comcast requires upon any install or reinstall that it reroutes you to a captive portal in order for you to login. I was unable to do so and now my Macbook will not access the internet wirelessly. (note- I have a Netgear wireless router connected to my Comcast modem). I called Comcast and another tech had me set and reset my modem and router to no avail. Here is where the issue gets confusing for me. I have an eMac that is hard wired into the router and it is able to access the internet no problem. I plugged my Macbook in via the ethernet (into the modem and router collectively and separately) and I am unable to get online through Safari.
    I have a VNC program on my computer and I am able to connect with my work computers on my macbook. My networking preferences also show that I am connected via airport and have an IP address however this captive portal issue will not allow me to get on the web. Please help! This seems as if it is a DNS, gateway or some sort of firewall issue but I am clueless to what to do. I've emptied my cache and reset Safari but nothing works.

    HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    *"Comcast requires upon any install or reinstall that it reroutes you to a captive portal in order for you to login"* *"however this captive portal issue will not allow me to get on the web"*
    Yes, the do re-direct now for added security but I have Comcast and not a problem here so there's something else going on with your setup.
    *"have a VNC program on my computer and I am able to connect with my work computers on my macbook."* If you are using a 3rd party VNC program then that could be the problem. You can do that without 3rd party software.
    To manually set up a VPN connection:
    Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
    Click Add +at the bottom of the network connection services list, and then choose VPN from the Interface pop-up menu.
    Choose what kind of VPN connection you want to set up from the VPN Type pop-up menu, depending on the network you are connecting to, and give the VPN service a name.
    Enter the server address and the account name for the VPN connection.
    Click Authentication Settings, and enter the user authentication information you were given by the network administrator.
    After entering the user authentication information, click OK, and then click Connect.
    Select “Show VPN status in menu bar” to use the VPN status icon to connect to the network and switch between VPN services.
    To remove the VPN configuration, select the VPN network connection service in the list and click Delete -
    Open System Preferences/Network and click the Advanced tab then selec the Proxies tab.
    If you are using a Proxy with Safari that could be the culprit. Safari does not like proxies.
    Also, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences and select the AutoFill tab.
    Click the Edit button next to Other forms. Delete Comcast.com. Relaunch Safari and see if that helps.
    If not, Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ Move the Cache.db file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
    Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
    Try using Open DNS / Free - Basic
    Also, it would help to troubleshoot if we knew which Mac OS X you are using. Please click My Settings on the right side of this page and complete your forum profile. Thanks!

  • Intel mini RAM woes...

    Ok, I'm pretty saavy when it comes to most things computer related but maybe I'm missing something on this one. I bought my Intel mini with the stock 512mb of RAM and decided I wanted to upgrade to 2gb. The price of RAM is fairly steep right now so I decided I would do this one stick at a time. I purchased my 1GB stick to get me going from Crucial (due to their reputation). I used their memory advisor to make sure I was ordering the correct memory for my machine and verified the memory matched what I ordered before it was installed. I installed the 1gb stick with one of the original 256mb sticks thinking I would maximize what I had available until I was able to purchase my second stick. After doing so I had nothing but problems. I kept getting spontaneous shutdowns and when booting up it would reboot itself sometimes 2 or 3 times before I could finally get to the desktop. So, I'm stumped. I've gone through and double checked that the memory was seated right, ran TechTool Pro 4, ran the Apple hardware test, reset my pram, reset my smc and even took out my 256mb stick to see if having an unmatched pair could be the issue. Everything looked fine and all tests passed. According to Crucial's website it is not "necessary" to have a pair of sticks in the mini to run properly. It even says I should be able to run different speeds and chip capacities. I was still getting the same result just the 1gb Crucial stick by itself. I have since put my 2 original 256mb sticks back in and all seems to be well. I know there is a possibility that I got a bad stick of RAM but I definitely have my doubts based on Crucial's reputation. I know how to handle computer components so I also highly doubt that I damaged the RAM. Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to have a matching pair of sticks (size and speed)? I'm racking my brain on this one, hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on my dilemma.

    Okay, new problem... I'm starting to think now that maybe my RAM woes were not RAM woes at all. I'm beginning to think that perhaps I have a failing hard drive. Right away after purchasing my Mac mini I took the original 80GB hdd out and replaced it with a brand new 120GB 5400rpm Seagate hdd. I started having these random shutdown problems and then yesterday after having my new 2GB's of RAM installed for about a week or so (and working flawlessly), I got the screen that tells me that I need to hold down the power button to restart my computer. I do so and it goes to this terminal type screen and runs through all kinds of command lines. I restarted and desktop came back up so I did a couple software updates (1 Airport update, 1 Security update). After that finishes the mini restarts and it hangs at the grey screen w/the apple. So, I shut the computer down and restarted and this time it gets to the 'OS X starting up' screen and hangs when the status bar reaches the end. So, I shut it down and restart yet again. It goes on and on like this and finally ends up getting to the desktop after roughly 6 restarts. I quickly back up everything on my computer and try a few more restarts to see the progression of the problem and try to troubleshoot. At one point I heard the hard drive click 2 times. After another round of numerous restarts I get back to the desktop and by this time alot of my programs were getting the beachball when opened and would never function (i.e. - Disk Utility, System Profiler & Safari). I put my Mac mini OS X install disc in and restarted to wipe everything out and see if my OS got messed up somewhere along the way and was causing my problems. As soon as it boots from the disc I got an error box informing me that It cannot install the OS but allows me to access Disk Utility. I erased and did a 1X pass zero out. I restarted my machine and yet again it hanged at the grey screen with the apple. I restarted a couple more times and now it just tells me it can not install the OS and shuts itself down within a few seconds of this message.
    So, this is where I'm at now... Can anyone else confirm that this sounds hard drive related vs. RAM related? The only variable that has changed recently has been the RAM and I refuse to believe that I got bad RAM twice in a row from a company as reputable as Crucial.
    Help me AndyO, you're my only hope! (yes, that was a nerdy Star Wars reference)

  • Safari is not loading complety

    Hi, need really some help. PLEASE! Am helpless! This is the problem. My safari 2.0.4 is not loading complety some major sites as for example: Ebay, Yahoo. I have tried to empty history, cache and remove the safari Icons. That is all I could think of. Strange is that these sites sometimes do function!! For three days or so and then again they don't for several days......My computer is iBook G4 system 10.4.7. internet connection WiFi. Please, is there anybody out there who help me out? Miles.

    Hello Miles13,
    : ( I'm so sorry for your woes & that we/I have not replied earlier.
    Please let us know if Safari will load in the test account, i know you had said you tried that it did not help you, but please explain, did Safari load?
    What third party applications do you use?
    How do you connect to the net, ADSL, which ISP
    Again who makes your router and does it, like most have a firewall,
    try resetting the router's firewall and reboot. Does the external modem have a firewall?
    Do you use DNS #s values in the DNS server box, in your Network preferences?
    If not find your Country, ISP and place the 2 #'s in List mode:
    xxx.xx.x4.
    xxx.xx.x5.
    Does not help?
    Skip over the router, plug the cable into the ethernet port what happens then? Do a reboot
    does this test tell us anything? Routers can you find yours here ? and configure it.
    Let us know your results, please.
    VBR~ Eme'~[)

    Back up all data before making any changes.
    Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
    If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
    One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
    If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
    Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
    In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
    Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
              Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.
