Safari 7.0.3 Command Key Issues

My Safari 7.0.3 is acting strange - some of the command-key combinations simply don't work, while others do.  For instance, command+p successfully opens the print window.  However, command+f does not open find.  Command+[ won't go back either.
Any idea what is going on here?

Try restarting your Mac.
If that doesn't help, try troubleshooting Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Command key issues with some apps after highlighting with trackpad

When I attempt to use command-c to copy from Microsoft Office or Lotus Notes I often get nothing. I've gotten in the habit of pressing command-c 2 or 3 times to make sure I got it. Its not physical keyboard issue since I do not have this problem with other apps and I tested a BT keyboard as well. I've noticed that other command key sequences also get dropped, e.g. command-u for underline. I've also had the delete key get dropped. It feels like Office and Notes are just to slow to respond and somehow lose the key, this frequently happens after I highlight something and quickly press command-something.
I used tap to touch. If I tap tap drag tap then command-whatever it appears to work. But tap tap drag command-whatever does not appear to terminate the drag. Is there a way to make Office/Notes react faster? Or tune the touch pad? Hack OS/X?
    Thanks.

And after all is said and done, you may very well need to restore the device as new and start from the beginning again, especially if the glitch is contained in your previous backup. Restoring from that backup (if it contains the glitch) will also restore the glitch. This is the reason for possibly restoring as new.
Make note of all your Settings (write them all down, preferably using a PC/notepad type program), backup all your music & apps and any other important information you will lose by restoring as new. As far as text messages go, you may not be able to back those up manually (I believe you can but you'd need to purchase additional software for the PC/Mac) and will likely lose them.

  • Command Key Issue

It feels like my command key is eternally pressed, even when I disconnected my keyboard. Any idea of what this could be?

    Apple Discussions!
"Any idea of what this could be?"
Dirt and/or crumbs stuck under the key?!?!?!?
Disconnect the keyboard from the computer, turn it over & give it a good whack on its back. Shake it a few times also.
Take a plastic toothpick & dig around the Command key for any stuck gook.
Take a brushed vacuum hose & go over all the keys w/special attention to the Command key.
Pop the Command key off if you have too!
    Good luck!

  • 'Command Key' Issues

When I use my 'Command' key for short cuts, for example 'Command key' + 'S' or + 'B' to save or for a new bin, my Final cut Express quits.
It is rather frustrating! Has anyone come across such a problem before? If so was it an easy fix?
    Thanks

    Hey
Do you mean US as United States?
I do not know. I have the standard Apple Keyboard(wired), purchased here in Canada. This problem occurs though when I am using this keyboard plugged in to my Macbook Pro Via USB or when I use the actual laptop keyboard.
    Thoughts?

  • Command key shortcuts don't work anymore in Safari since upgrade to Yosemite!

    Hi,
I recently upgraded the MacOSX to Yosemite. Since this moment Safari doesn't work properly anymore, because the command key shortcuts are out of order.
    Cmd + Q
    Cmd + C
    Cmd + V
    Cmd + X
These are now the key shortcuts I've noticed that aren't working anymore. Other apps (a part from Firefox) don't seem to have these problems.
In the meantime I have to use the mouse cursor and choose from the menu bar.
Apple support wasn't able to help me! They just gave me the advice force quit Safari and restart it while pushing the ALT-key. Result: Nothing!
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Kind regard,

    MacBook Air

That is rather odd if they are all visible as shortcut commands.
Here are some more tests to do…
    1) Disable all your Safari Extensions & retest (in Safari Preferences).
    2) Logout of the account (from the Apple menu). At the login window enter your password & hold shift as you click the login button. Keep it held until the Desktop has become usable. This disables 'User login items' - retest. Logout after testing.
    3) Try a safe boot… OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Does it still happen in safe mode? This disables third party extensions & some inessential Apple system extensions - things will not be normal, however the Mac should be 'functional', test as much as you can.
Post the results of those here, it may give us a better idea where to look.

  • Move tool issue : Command key + mouse dragging for moving any layer not working in PS CC

I'm trying to move a layer within the document by holding command key and mouse dragging (mouse cursor not above the layer) is not working at all while using move tool. Suddenly this functionality stopped working. Now I have to place my cursor on layer to be move and drag with mouse. Also pressing command key changing auto select option from layer to group.
    Please help.

Usually when a tool is not working as expected, a Reset of that tool might be the answer.
Select the move tool in the toolbox,
Go to the move tool icon on the top left of the screen (just above the toolbox in its' Option bar) and Ctrl-click on it to get the Reset menu.
    Click on Reset Tool.

  • Command key activates wrong window in Mountain Lion

I've got some strange bug on my computer that has stumped every genius in the three Apple Stores I've been to--they even took it to the back to ask all the Genius' in the store, so it seems to be a nasty bug. so I figured maybe you all could help me out.
The issue is this: After I upgraded to Mountain Lion (from Snow Leopard) when I use my "command" key, it randomly activates a window other than the one in focus (on top) of the other windows.  So, for example, if I'm in Safari and try to copy something (Cmd+C) but I also have Word open, it will switch to Word and copy whatever is in Word.  It does this with all programs (even with Finder!), no matter what the Command function I'm trying to use.  If I close the program, the strange behavior will stop for a short time and then come back with another program.  When Cmd activates Finder, I have to relaunch Finder and that temporarily alleviates the problem.  It does this odd behavior with an external keyboard (and the on-screen keyboard), meaning that it's a software, not hardware error.
I have taken the following actions to fix the problem:
    - Reset PRAM (no change to problem)
    - Using Disk Utility to repair permissions and verify disk (no change to problem)
    - Created a new user on the computer (problem re-appeared after importing my backup files using MigrationAssistant)
    - Created a new user on the computer and imported files without importing "Settings" but problem reappeared
    - Reinstalled Mountain Lion (problem appeared after importing my backup files using MigrationAssistant)
The last Genius thought the error was due to an application corrupting some system-wide file in Mountain Lion, so we wiped my hard drive, reinstalled files, and imported my documents but not my apps.  I manually installed one app at a time and had no issues for 3 months or so.
The problem "randomly" came back last week.  Looking at apps that were installed recently, it shows:
    - Flux (update - but Flux was on my computer for 3 months with no issues)
    - Quicksand (update - but Quicksand was NOT on my computer last year when the problem started)
    - VLC Media Player (this WAS on my computer last year but was NOT on my computer in the 3 months with no issue).
Thus, it seems that the culprit app was VLC.  I've deleted it (using AppTrap to clear system files), but the problem still exists.
    So, three questions:
    1)  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, how to prevent it, or whether it might start again even if I wipe and reinstall everything?
    2) I'd like to fix the problem without wiping my computer and doing a clean install of everything.  Any ideas of how I could avoid doing that?
    3) If I have to sacrifice VLC to solve the problem, fine, but I'd prefer not to.  Any ideas as to how I could use it still?
TLDR: Command key activates wrong window in Mountain Lion; confirmed software issue; reinstall worked fine until installed VLC Media Player and problem returned; how do I fix it?

  • Problems with "v", "]", and command keys on the keyboard

    Hi,
On my MacBook, pressing either the "v" key or the command key to the left of the space bar, without pressing the other one as in a keyboard shortcut, pastes what is currently on my clipboard. Pressing only the command key to the right of the space bar, and not the "]" key in combination, moves me forward in my web browser. When I do press the "]" key, nothing happens (I had to copy and paste the "]" and the "v" for this post). Obviously this is somewhat annoying as typing anything with these two symbols becomes a chore. I am still able to use other keyboard shortcuts, however, but in doing so the command key either pastes from the clipboard or, if I'm using a web browser, moves me to the next page in my history before completing the shortcut. How can I fix this? Thanks.

    Try resetting your SMC.
Resetting the System Management Controller >>
    Try resetting PRAM:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound (bong) for four times.
    6. Release the keys.
If neither help, you could have a hardware issue with the keyboard.

  • My command key does not work properly

I changed my left command key on my macbook pro to a different function.  When I hit the left command button it responds by darkening the desktop background and then showing smaller versions of all the applications I have open.  Similar to mission control but not quite mission control.  I have searched around and cannot find a solution.  I am running mac os x version 10.7.5 on my macbook pro.  I have restored default funtion in the system perferences under mission control and keyboard shortcuts.  I have zapped the pram.  Is there anyone who has any suggestions to solve this issue?  Anyone?

Go to System preferences on the Apple menu, then go to "International" pane in the system preferences pane.
Select Character Palette and Keyboard Viewer. Click "Show on the menu bar".
Now on the menu bar there is a flag, probably an American flag, click on it and select "Show Keyboard Viewer"
As you change the fonts or type you will see the kb acting dynamically.
Check back if it does not solve your problem.

  • Windows keyboard -- Command key not recognized at startup

I know the Command key maps to the Windows key on Windows keyboards. But it only seems to work once the Mac has started up. In other words, it can't be used to issue special startup commands, such as to zap PRAM.
Does anyone out there successfully use the Windows key as the Command-key at startup?
    Background:
My brother is a switcher with a Mac mini with a Windows keyboard. He has a startup problem that has been diagnosed as a potential PRAM problem. But he couldn't zap his PRAM. In fact he hasn't been able to do any startup functions that require the Command key. He uses the Windows key as command key during normal operation, but it isn't recognized at startup. He tried many times, and I'm certain he was holding the keys down at the correct time. Afterward he borrowed a Mac keyboard, and was able to zap the PRAM with it with no problems.
Do all Windows keyboards have this problem?
mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1 GB RAM

Yes, using various keyboards including generic Dell models, a Logitech, and an early IBM USB device. There is a possibility though with some keyboards - perhaps those with a number of extra function keys - that MacOS doesn't recognize the keyboard and waits until it is told what the device is by the usual 'keyboard not recognized' dialog/assistant. In those instances I would imagine the keyboard would fail at modifying boot options because in effect the system would have to be booted fully and go through that recognition sequence first!

  • Right-Command Key doesn't work

Well, on my PowerBook G4, there are 2 command-keys (I'm sure that's common).
My right command key doesn't work what-so-ever. I tried using the keyboard viewer and it doesn't turn gray either. Funny thing, but when I press the LEFT one, both cmd keys turn gray.
Well i dont know if its a missing driver or a setting, (maybe even a malfunctioning keyboard?) but if anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Sorry, my bad. Haven't read through it in awhile and thought it affected keyboard too, but looks like just trackpad and other issues described. You may just have a bad keyboard or something lodged under that key.

Im cs5 but I have had this trouble in cs4.

    causiu,
It is possible that the issues may be caused by preference corruption or interference from other applications.
You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps. Since you had it in CS4 too, the most likely is 5).
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer;
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (irreversible);
    4) Move the folder with Illy closed (reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options, especially Item 7) with the usual suspects;
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • My Left Command key shows the desktop and can't be used for other functions

My Left Command key shows the desktop when pressed in.
So if I try and copy (command + C) I end up staring at the desktop....This only happens with the left key. Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.
