  • Safari 7.0.6 will not save my preferences (default webpage, turn off extensions)

    Hello,
I have been trying for months to get Safari to make my school website my default homepage instead of the apple start page as well as get Safari to remember the size I like my browser window. Nothing works. I can change it in preferences but as soon as I quit Safari it goes back to how it was. I have tried what others suggested and searched library for the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist and I also tried turning extensions off and it just turns itself back on (no extensions show up anyway). Am I missing something? I'm running OS X 10.9.4

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

Word will not save new files or open ones recieved in ichat
i have had this problem before and had to take my computer to the apl store were someone at the genius bar fixed it by deleting some preferences thing i do not remember how who did it or how he got to that file and need help to fix this problem

Try Finder>Library>Preferences>Microsoft>com.microsoft.word.prefs.plist, and delete that last one.
I don't know that it will solve your problem, but I'm pretty sure that's what the guy did before. Good luck!

  • DW CS 5.5 will not save new sites

Dreamweaver CS 5.5 on Windows 7. Dreamweaver will only allow me to create and manage 13 +1 sites. It saves 13 and I can open one other using the exported settings files I have saved. But when I close DW, that 13th site disappears, even though I have saved it. I have uninstalled DW and, after cleaning leftover files, restarted and re-installed. I have tried saving other sites as well but the same thing happens. It still will not allow me to add new sites. Anyone else have this problem?

Thank you, Jon. I tried both of your methods, I downloaded the CC tool for
DW and used it but I still was not able to save any new sites. Then I tried
deleting the cache as you reccomended, but that didn't change anything. All
I can do, is create a new site, export the site and then open that site via
the "Manage Sites" dialogue. I can also open DW, create a new site, add it
to the list in the "Manage Sites" box and then use it for that session, but
if I close DW, that site disappears and I have to go through the entire
process again or simply open the exported site . . . but why ???

  • Iphone 6 will not save new photos

I have upgraded from the iphone5s to iphone6 and no new photos will be saved. When I take a picture it shows up on the bottom left however when I click to open it I am not able to view it. It opens the photos app but only shows old photos that were transferred over. In the photos app I have checked everywhere but it only shows the old photos. I just did a backup and full restore but I'm still having the same issue. I'm currently on 8.0.2. My husband has the same phone and is having no issues.

    Hi there PaulMenard,
It sounds like you are unable to get any emails to the phone after updating your password. I would use the troubleshooting for the Mail app in the following article:
Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Tap the affected email account.
    Tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • OSX 10.7.4. will not save ANY of my preferences (system or application -- Safari, Office, etc.)

I am running System OSX 10.7.4 on three different MacBooks.  It will not save any of my preferences (system or application based), passwords, log-ins and keychain. Even Safari did not save imported bookmarks.  I am running Office For Mac 2011 (v 14.2.1) and Outlook will work for a day or two and then I get a rebuild database error message, losing everything.  Word, et all, will not save any preferences, not even recent files.
I did a full erase and clean system reinstall and a fresh install of Office. This problem occurs on all 3 of my MacBook, 2- MacBook Pro’s and a MacAir.  One of the MacBook Pro’s is BRAND NEW.
Any ideas, any fixes out there?

I have what seems to be a similar issue. Are you having other issues like mine?
    Macbook air      11-inch, Late 2010
                            4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Software           Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
I have updated the latest combi update from the apple site and still have the same issue.
No matter what I try every time I restart my Mac all my preferences and applications reset. (Also preferences don't save when exiting the preference folder)
For example when in >system preferences>general -untick the 'restore windows when quitting and re-open apps' I exit preferences and then go back in to check it has automatically reticked the box.
I have deleted 2 applications several times (including removing the icon from the dock) and each time after restarting it shows a question mark on the dock where I had deleted it from.
On restart I loose downloads and history in safai.
On restart it re opens documents and applications I have quite even after unticking the restore applications on restart box (the one that comes up when shutting down or restarting)
I have been trying to solve this for a month now and it really is frustrating the **** out of me.
    helpppp pleaseee...

  • Safari will not display new domain endings on iPad

Safari will not display new domain endings, instead goes to google, other browsers have no issue with this just safari. My domain per example ends in .photo rather than .com etc....  This is only an issue on the iPad or mobile app of safari.

You need to check that website again, after clearing the cookies from browser. If it still unable to connect with the website having new domain names then message to Safari forum about the problem or inform them via feedback option available in browser. Hopefully they would troubleshoot this problem.

  • Safari 7.0 will not save PDF

My Safari 7.0 will not save PDF files that can be opened, what do I need to do to get this function working again?

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Macbook, Snow Leopard 10.6.8  Since the last software update Safari 5.1 will not save history.  Prefs. are set correctly, reset has been done, appropriage plist has been trashed, now Saf. 5.1 has been re-installed.  Still dumps history every time

Macbook, Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Safari 5.1.1
Since the last software update, Safari will not save bookmarks history.
Prefs. are set correctly, Cache has been dumped, reset done, appropriate .plist trashed, and finally an uninstall and clean install done
with 5.1.1 download from the Apple support site.
The problem still exists, making me very suspicious that this is a bug.
    Any solutions?  Let's hear 'em.

Thank you for your kind and prompt solution.  It is a winner.

  • Safari 5 will not Save a pdf

Apparently since the OS 10.7.4 upgrade, Safari will not save a pdf from a google search page. Error message is "cannot export  (file name)". Any Mac users know what is going on here? Firefox works fine. I've ;ooked in Safari and Finder prefs but can't find anything that would relate to this. Trying to download some Camera RAW tutorials. Bookmarked them in Safari, and later d/l  in Firefox which sends them to Finder> Downloads by default.

For anyone else who runs into this problem, go to your hard drive's Library/Internet Plugins and trash the two AdobeReader plugins that have PDF in their name, then restart Safari.   Many others have had this, starting with some Adobe update. It si probably not copnnected to 10.7.4, since one complainer was using Snow Leopard.

  • CS4 on new 64bit machine will not save files, "unkown error"

I just upgraded my machine from an older 32 bit PC to a 64 bit PC running Windows 7. As part of the migration O'm having to re-install a lot of softwaare including Illsutrator. The install was succesful, Illy runs and will open all of my old AI files, but it will not save them. All I get id an "unkown error" message. New files created form scrath save ok; old files will save over or be "saved as"; if I copy the contents of an old fiel to a new page it will not save either. I have removed the AIprefs file but no change.
Any idea what the issue is?

I have had this problem as well and this is my take on it. It can open the files being that it's .ai format but it can't just save them again being that the previous save format was 32bit and now the save format is 64bit and when you ask it to save a 32bit file it wants to save it as 32bit again but illustrator can't do that from a 64bit system. The bit size does make a difference but if you go to save as instead of save it will save it and you can write over it. What your doing then is saving a new 64bit file over the old 32bit file.

  • I have changed to AT&T U-verse, which has a new modem and router combined.  Safari 5.1.10 will not recognize the wifi signal, but Foxfire will.  What settings do I need to change on Safari?

I have changed to AT&T U-verse, which has a new modem and router combined.  Safari 5.1.10 will not recognize the wifi signal, but Foxfire will.  What settings do I need to change on Safari?

    Hello SalsburgD
The first thing I would check is to make sure that the router is using the recommended settings to get online. Another troubleshooting step is to create a new Network Location and then join your network to see if that changes things.
