Safari 7.0 - Opening wrong links on webpages

Safari Version 7.0 (9537.71) - When I click on links on webpages like Yahoo.com, Safari is opening up a different link from that same webpage than the intended link.
This is happening on both an iMac and MacBook Air running the new OS Mavericks.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

  • Safari is not opening any links from Mail.

Safari is not opening any links from .Mail.  I am having to copy and paste every one into a browser.  I've tried 'right-clicking' and then open with Safari but that isn't working either.  Any suggestions?

Hi--thanks for responding.  My default browser was set at Safari 6.0.

  • Safari doesn't open a link at once

Ever since installing the Tiger on my PowerBook G4, most hyperlinks to the pages other than that of Apple site do not open at once. They usually end up showing the new standard Safari page indicating page not found. (The usual jumping of Safari icon in the Dock doesn't take place either.) However the same link starts loading the page on pressing the return/enter key. How do I fix the bug?
I'm not sure if it's my impression alone, but Safari in general has become slower as well.

It doesn't work on my phone, but it opens on my iPad fine.
Looks like it's a FB issue, not Safari.   They probably don't have that page encoded for mobile.

  • Problem opening a link from webpage to a access db file on a network share

    Hi all,
We have a webpage where there are links to the different ressources on our network..
one of these links points to the i:\somefolder\someDB.accdp or whatever extionsen access databases have..
so the idea is that the user goes to the webpage click on the link and because the I: drive on the pc points in the right place it opens the file in access.
this works. IE download manager pops up and asks what to do, open - save - save as
the users says open and access opens the DB for the user.
The problem is that IE download manager says the file was not downloaded and the access database windows does not take focus.
now this may seem like a small thing but we do get allot of support from users saying its not working. The problem here being that users don't see the blinking access icon in the process bar and thinks that clicking the link didn't work.
I assume the reason access doesn't pop into focus after choosing to open it from IE link is because IE sees the file as not downloaded and than nothing happens.
I have no clue why this happens (IE says the file was not downloaded or why access doesn't take focus after choosing open)
I have been at it for days..
I have put the site in the trusted site option which did nothing to solve the issue.
Turned off mime sniffer and screenfilter or what ever the filter in IE is called and i still got the issue
    this is IE 11
ANY!... and i mean A N Y ideas would be priciated!

    Hi,
Is this problem just occures to part of users? Is these computer installed any security software? If that it is, try to disable them for test.
It would be better to disable the AV software, then restart the computer to test the problem again if it appears.
If no use, in my opinion, it would be better to use network Monitor to capture the web access trace when clicking the link.
This could help us have a deep insight about this problem.
If there is any difficult, please feel free let us know.

  • Safari can't open a link but others can

    Here is the link:
    https://www.facebook.com/bestbuy/app_187400188063684#_=_
    What's the problem for safari?
Why apple can't improve it's software? Safari has following shorpoints,
    1. Can't set to open a 'full site' by default, mobile site usually has less information. You need to scroll down and click 'full site', some other sites even don't have a 'full site' button.
    2. No multi tab function, always open a new window, no convinent.

It doesn't work on my phone, but it opens on my iPad fine.
Looks like it's a FB issue, not Safari.   They probably don't have that page encoded for mobile.

  • Safari can't open some links

When I browse the Apple website with Safari, some links don't work (e.g. the feedback pages). The only way to make them work is to turn off java script, but that's not a real solution. With Firefox everything works fine.
Has anybody else experienced this and found a solution?

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then uninstall them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.

  • Safari crashing when opening a link in a new tab.

This happened as soon as I allowed the update that updated safari to 3.2.1
Most of the time if I do not open anything in tabs and quit safari frequently it won't crash. But as soon as I try anything to speed up my blog reading, safari crashes. I have switched to firefox and opera in hopes that the problem would be found and a fix issued but it's been quite a while since the last update and so far, nothing. Is apple aware of a problem?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

So it's possible to do a reinstall off of my leopard upgrade disk? I had been reading on other posts and I thought you had to do a complete re installation of the operating system. If this is possible I'm going to be overjoyed, because I had absolutely zero problems with safari just before this last upgrade. Will it not mess with any of the other programs like mail or itunes for instance? Your help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Why does safari pick a minimized instance to open a link from e-mail in a new tab?

Often when I open an URL from an e-mail message (Mail.app) it unminimizes a minimized Safari window to open the link in a new tab, while there are unminimized Safari windows available. This gets very annoying; those windows weren't minimized for nothing, please fix.

Your description is so different from what was so obvious to me on my iMac I felt compelled to go back and investigate. What I'm finding is radically different behavior depending on whether there are one or more monitors and how you have them configured with respect to spaces. The behavior I originally described was with two monitors sharing a space and a single safari window open on both monitors.
When I moved both safari windows to the iMac monitor the behavior changed considerably. In this case a minmized safari window will open when the URL is already open in a minimized window. Or if both safari windows are minimized it will apparently open the one that was created first. This is still different than what you describe.
When each monitor has it's own space with a safari window it will use the safari window in the space where the link was clicked which sort of makes sense.
So it appears configuration has much to do with Safari behavior and it's got my head spinning at this point. Incidentally I'm on the latest version of Mavericks.

  • Is there anyway to get the "Search with google" feature in Safari to automatically open in new tab?

Is there any way to get the "Search with google" feature in safari to automatically open the link in a new tab?
I am indifferent as to the solution, whether it be an extension, plug-in or apple script using automator as long as it is well documented.
Have yet to see an elegant solution.

Hold down the command key while selecting the menu item.

  • I have iPhone 4s, and using latest iOS. When I try to open any link from Twitter or Facebook, it goes to open some wrong webpage. My iphone seems to be infected or suffering from some spyware or malware. How can I remove this wrong link opening

I have iPhone 4s, and using latest iOS. When I try to open any link from Twitter or Facebook, it goes to open some wrong webpage. My iphone seems to be infected or suffering from some spyware or malware. How can I remove this wrong link opening ? Please help me to resolve...

I think the McAfee suite will do the trick when I pay them a one-time fee of $69 or $179 for a year for unlimited support.
Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.
You may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful:

  • Automator: load webpage fully and open all links?

    Hi,
In addition to this script: Applescript/Automator - Open all links on a webpage I'm able to open all links on a website, but I'm trying to open all links on a fancy website that keeps loading if I keep scrolling to the bottom and/or click on show more posts. I've tried loading my website fully, but automator only detects the "first page" of it. Don't know if that makes sense.
Tried to save it as a web archive from Safari, but that doesn't do the trick, I just get an error and it doesn't detect any links... unless I'm doing something wrong.
    Current workflow:
    Get Current Webpage from Safari
    Extract URLs from Text
    Get Link URLS from Webpages
    Filter URLs
    Run AppleScript

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

  • Forcing Safari to open new links in a new tab

Without sounding cynical, I love Safari but have been using Chrome for several years because it behaves like "I" want...not like "Apple" wants.  I keep hoping Apple will fix the remaining two quirks (for me anyway) that keep me from using it full time.  One of them I can live without...the other I can't, but perhaps there's a way around it that someone here might know about.
    1.  I want EVERY link on which I click to always open in a new tab (or at least in a new window if it's coded to do that).  Safari insists on opening almost every link in the same window I'm already in, forcing me to page back to get to where I started.  I have the Tab Preferences set to "Open pages in tabs instead of windows AUTOMATICALLY" which is supposed to use the tabs, except where the link is coded to open a child window.  BUT...this simply does not happen.  I could change this preference to ALWAYS instead of AUTOMATICALLY but then I lose the child windows when they're supposed to open.  Chrome does this perfectly...why can't Safari?
    2.  The only other thing is not fixable yet, but perhaps someday Apple will realize it (I've submitted it as a Safari suggestion already).  When I open a page in Safari, why must I have to move my cursor to the address window?  It's so amazing how Chrome as always opened with the cursor already positioned in the address window already...where else would you want it if you're going to open the browser and type something?
Anyway, it's the first item that really irks me, but perhaps it's just something I'm doing wrong.  Thanks for any help.

Start by opening a Terminal window (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal). Enter the following command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true
    Restart Safari.
If you decide you want to change back, just re-enter the command but replace true at the end of the command with false.

  • Opening A Link In New Window, While Leaving The Existing Webpage Open

    Hi,
When I click on a link in a page, I want a new window to open with the contents of that link, leaving the 'linked from' page still open on my monitor. I don't want the existing 'linked from' page disappearing when the 'linked to' page opens on top of it. I don't think that in Internet Explorer, which I was using before, that the previous page disappeared in the way it does on Safari. I continually find myself losing the page I want to keep while I open another. In Preferences>General, I have tried to set Safari up to work the way I describe above, but I can't seem to find the right default procedure.
    Or,
How do I leave the departure window open, and below the arrival window, when clicking a link from the former to the latter?
    Thanks,
    Rafael

    Hi,
the only way I know of the is to go to file and click for a new Window.
Sounds like tabs maybe your thing, from Safari's Helpviewer. for more info look there.......
To turn on tabbed browsing, choose Preferences from the Safari menu and click Tab. Select Enable Tabbed Browsing.
To open a link or bookmark in the bookmarks bar in a new tab, hold down the Command key and click the item, or hold down the Control key, click the item, and choose Open in New Tab from the shortcut menu.
To open a bookmark collection in the bookmarks bar or a folder of bookmarks in the Bookmarks Library in tabs, hold down the Control key, click the collection or folder, and choose Open in Tabs from the shortcut menu.
If you select the Auto-Click checkbox for a folder in the bookmarks bar, then you can open all the bookmarks in the folder in tabs by clicking the folder name in the bookmarks bar.
To open a webpage in a new tab, choose New Tab from the File menu and type the address for the page.
To close a tab, click the close button in the tab.
To quickly switch between tabs, press Command-Shift-[ and Command-Shift-].
To show a webpage that is in a tab and close all other tabs, hold down the Option key and click the close box in the tab you want to remain open.
When you click a link in a page you are viewing in a tab, the page opens in the current tab. Click the Back and Forward buttons in the address bar to scan pages you have opened in a tab.
If you choose a page from the History or Bookmarks menu, the page opens in the current tab.
Hope it helps you do what i think you are looking for.
    Cheers
    Eme
